This dude was one of a kind. He just love watching trains roll by and what kind of ride was passing!! When I think about all the scenery he see that no one else has even seen unless they ride is priceless!!
Great respect for you, Shoestring..I believe your knowledge of trains & tracks, rails & routes is more extensive than ANY other hobo before you..You should be proud for successfully following your dream all throughout your life..It's obvious to all of us who follow your site that you are doin it right & you are a good man..Thanks amigo !
It is getting cold and near winter now...man, you are one tough guy! It's good to see you enjoying life and doing what you want to do...no doubt it is hard at times, but you are certainly entertaining the rest of us who would like to be free spirits!
Shoestring. I seen you the other day. I work for the rail road. I wont say anything mostly because im impressed by the knowledge you have of the rail system. I want you to be safe. May i ask why you train hop tho?
just stumbled on your channel, you do some amazing stuff! as a transit cop from a big city, cant help but admire guys like you, keep doing you & stay safe!
I'm the guy that poured the slope protection you slept on in the video. I also cut the lines. I was in my early 20's at the time. ( that's why they are crooked as hell). Lol love these videos. 😀😀😀😀😀
That blue coos bay rail line locomotive is from my home valley. Comes from the Oregon coast and served on a still active line from the coast town of Coos Bay to Eugene OR. Best 10 mph ride of your life my friend.
Hello sir, I'm fairly new to your channel and I am really enjoying it, ty. I watch whatever train videos I can find. You got me with that Cat .. hat, hahaha, be well sir.
I am a retired Railroader and live 1 mile south of Avon,In. yard. Every time I see a train pass since I started watching your video's, I now look to see if anyone is riding . Ride Safe Shoestring!
Fremont! The source of Costco rotisserie chickens all over the US. Enough said. We used to have a restaurant in my city on the West Coast that would only serve beef raised within a hundred miles of Omaha due to the level of local experience and expectations.
I’ve watched so many of your videos shoestring yet somehow I’ve never seen this one before!! It’s just past midnight here in Yorkshire 🇬🇧 Laying in bed then you did the “Popeye the sailor man lives in a garbage can” thing and I cracked out laughing loud 😂😂 About pissed the bed at the “bow leged women” bit ! You have a great sense of humour buddy... got me with that !
Enjoyed the new video, That train yard in Lincoln is huge I've driven South on route 77 picked up a lot of grain going to New Jersey, Wishing you happy rails.
Coming from NYC and every space taken with something or someone it's great to see such open space with room to roam,!! Glad ur on the run again, please be safe warm, looking forward to another video,as always godspeed!! 💯🚂🚂🚂🚝
Shoestring you should write a book . With this much knowledge and experience you have gained over the years it might be interesting for some people to read about your journeys.
I'm from southeast Nebraska actually live right off highway 77. Did some asphalt up there in Fremont a couple years ago. Good luck to you sir and safe travels
Awesome video! I railfan Fremont all the time. Most of the trains on the BNsF are coming down to Ashland and then to Lincoln. That firework stand is where I always take a leak 😂
I live on the Oregon Coast two hours from Coos Bay. It was cool to see that CBR locomotive in your video. Coos Bay Rail is a short line that runs from Myrtle Point to Eugene. Local taxpayers approved a $111 million bond to bring the line back to life after Central Oregon and Pacific (RailAmerica) abandoned it. Before CORP it was a Southern Pacific spur.
Hope you're doing well my friend, you had me rolling man, I was holding it together till your story of the dude that forgets the words to his song, and gets pissed off lmao
glad to see you are doing well mark , we are going back into a 6 week lock down here in ireland due to the virus so stay safe buddy and keep the great content coming ..... we will need it ha ha .
Oh my, the virus doesn’t care if you “go along” or not. It’s sole purpose is to continue to spread. If we could come together and care about each other, protect each other. Unfortunately that won’t happen. Our only concern is money. We deserve whatever hell follows.
I like your videos. I enjoy your knowledge of the land and first hand storys of the country and towns. And know quite a bit of sciencey stuff from crystallization of rock pillars to liquefaction of sand. Just a surprising large scope of knowledge. Thank u for sharing
Only just found your channel today, I love how big the freight trains are in the States. We don't get them like that in the UK. You can't get near them either to ride them, plus if you got caught you can bet the police would charge folks. Keep it up and stay safe.
Hey bro, I'm in the UK to and when i found Shoestring and Jim Stobe I started looking for UK train hopping video's and there is none! The system doesn't run the same i don't think we have general manifest trains anymore its all from port to truck to customer, we just don't have the distance. There is some in EU but its hard. Its USA or Canada if u got a record haha!
Such a great video. That blue engine sure was pretty. The colors are very rich on your video. Nice to watch. You need some Lederhosen and a German felt hat from that commercial, 🤣
Shoestring, you would clean everybody’s plate on the Railroad Memorabilia & Geography category on Jeopardy. Alex Trebek would give up asking questions. The other two contestants grab a couple of chairs and everyone sits comfy just listening and learning from “The Deacon Of The Rails.
I work for a private rail yard just a little north of Fremont. Have to let me know if you ever hit town again. Dinner’s on me. Might even make ya a nice deer steak or something.
well now i heard a laugh out of you. you dont only look like cousin gary. you have his laugh as well. good stuff. much luck to you and guy smilly. keep it safe string,,,
😁I'm back glad you're still traveling, working in florida at the moment then headed to the Appalachian trail..thinking bout filming and starting a channel
Hey, hobo, I think I may have had to out post there every once in awhile, when I drove for BNSF, as a rail Crew driver myself! God bless you, dude! I'm hoping to start working with them myself! Way cool 👍🤗💕 don't go to jail! Don't get in trouble! Apply for work, and get with a union and stay with them, okay!?
Actually I'm still with my union. I just have to keep applying. And applying. It's a part of the process after you get injuries on the job. Keep up the good work!
I know what you mean about those cars making noise above your head up underneath those overpasses. In Feb ‘73 I got caught in a snowstorm in Richmond IN while hitchhiking and had to spend the night under a street running over I-70. Couldn’t get a ride until the sun came up and somebody gave me a ride to Columbus but was gonna stop because of the snow. Took a city bus to the Greyhound station from there. Only time in 100k miles of hitchhiking that I had to break down and catch a bus to complete the ride.
Interesting those mud volcanoes. On the island where I grew up the soil was sand & clay, and if you patted it for a while it would liquify. More water than land!

Hey shoe have you ever ran on to a once hobo called spoon lady> Been watching your videos. So enjoyable. I admire you. We have a Norfolk and southern yard here in my little home town of Burnside Ky. Keep up the good work
Hey Shoestring... Don't you worry about train operators calling you in, instead of moving out of the open, were you won't be so visible, when a train passes???
