Being portuguese, I found it interesting that the book about the portuguese princess (called Isabel) is called "A Curse of Roses", because in our history it is known as "Milagre das Rosas" (translated to The Miracle of Roses), in which she would transform bread into roses to trick the king's men.
@@JeansThoughts Oh yes, it definitely seems to be, with some slight alterations. It was a beautiful story and we actually learned it in school here, both for the myth/legend part as well as the real historical part of her role in our History. It's interesting to know that a little bit of our legend and culture is being shared with the rest of the world. :)
There are honestly so many great books coming out next year - partially because so many had publication dates pushed back. I'm considering making a video for anticipated releases every month! There is just so much to look forward to!
P. Djeli Clark is releasing a full length novel of his Cairo series and it's the only one I'm actively dying for, now that Alecto the Ninth has been delayed until 2022. It's coming out in May and it's Fatima centred again and I can't wait for it.
Ooh Ariadne sounds great but September 2021 seems so far away! I'm really looking forward to A Decolonial Feminism by Francoise Vergès and The Green Barbecue by Rukmini Iyer. Love that green jumper btw, it really suits you!
The iron raven is in an established series, there is a quartet and a trilogy before it. I assume since it is a new series you could start at this point though
Ohhh, this year I started and DNF'd a very popular YA book by a recently renowned Mexican YA author, precisely about vampires in México City. I was so excited because the premise REALLY intrigued me! Unfortunately I didn't like the writing style :( I'm SOOO glad Silvia Moreno García will be doing her take on that theme! I'll be anticipating Certain Dark Things
I'm so bad at keeping track of what's coming out in advance but the poetry collection Legacy and The Conductors sound interesting. And I also plan to check out Aliette De Bodard.
I've been looking forward to this video for so long, you always have the best list of upcoming releases that I would have never heard of otherwise! I'm so excited for Afterlove by Tanya Byrne to come out in July, I read it earlier this year as an arc and LOVED it, I can't wait for an excuse to read it again😍
I think I already said this in a previous comment but still.. Every time I watch one of your videos, I just immediately want to read all the books mentioned ^^
I'm particularly looking forward to "One Last Stop" by Casey McQuiston, "Reputation" by Lex Croucher, and "A Marvellous Light" by Freya Marske. I'm so excited for 2021!! Great video!!
The Iron Raven is a new trilogy that follows The Iron Fey series and The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten series. I'm not sure whether it would make sense without having at least some insight into the books since, especially in the first series, Puck is one of the main characters. However you are correct that in that whole world characters from Midsummer Night's Dream play a big part. Not sure whether you can call it a retelling though. Either way, it's one of my favourite series and I can't wait to get more of it. I can definitely recommend if you're up for some romantic fantasy.
We definitely have quite a bit of overlap on our lists, haha! A few of my other most anticipated books are The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo and Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo :)
i think my most anticipated reads for 2021 are 'she who became the sun' by shelley parker-chan releasing on 22/7 (pitched as 'mulan meets the song of achilles') and 'the kingdoms' by natasha pulley on 27/5 (queer (alternative?-) historical time travelling mystery).
huh is certain dark things being republished in the UK or something? because i think it originally came out in 2016 and i read it last year. though i do remember it going out of print - anyway, i did really enjoy it! my own most anticipated release of 2021 is a lesson in vengeance by victoria lee, which is a dark academia with a f/f romance and i really enjoyed that authors debut!
Looks like Pat Barker has a sequel to silence of the girls coming out in June, “The Women of Troy”... surprised this wasn’t mentioned, but I haven’t watched many peoples most anticipated yet - I’m sure it will pop up more next year Kind of more excited for Ariadne though 🙊
@@JeansThoughts I thought it was excellent. Really different take on the lore and modernized. There are details that I think you'll like or appreciate as Greek mythology/classics academic.
Every culture has their own form of vampire though and a quick google of "Mexican vampire" gave me the Tlahuelpuchi, with belief if this creature having deep roots amongst the indigenous Nahua culture. Didn't want to come across as that Well actually guy but folklorish creatures are something I have an interest in and your "no native vampire's" comment had me questioning that.
This is the first video I've watched on this channel, so don't really know your taste but I do know a f/f YA romance fantasy: The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea bu Maggie Tokuda-Hall. The cover is stunning! "Aboard the pirate ship Dove, Flora the girl takes on the identity of Florian the man to earn the respect and protection of the crew. For Flora, former starving urchin, the brutal life of a pirate is about survival: don’t trust, don’t stick out, and don’t feel. But on this voyage, Flora is drawn to the Lady Evelyn Hasegawa, who is headed to an arranged marriage she dreads. Flora doesn’t expect to be taken under Evelyn’s wing, and Evelyn doesn’t expect to find such a deep bond with the pirate Florian. Neither expects to fall in love." I personally liked the first part of the book but the rest was a bit meh. Maybe you'll have more fun reading this. :3
That introduction was gold!
Can't wait for "Ariadne" & "Into the Heartless Wood" ! "Pride and Premeditation" seems fun as well.
The cover for the heartless wood looks so cool!!

I think that might be the legend it is based on :)

Ohhh Into the Heartless Wood sounds (and looks 😍) so good!
I really love the sound of The Conductors! Will have to keep an eye out for it next year
Remote Control sounds great!! I'm so excited for a Curse of Roses since it's inspired by one of my absolute favorite portuguese legends/ tales 💛
There are honestly so many great books coming out next year - partially because so many had publication dates pushed back. I'm considering making a video for anticipated releases every month! There is just so much to look forward to!
Our TBR is out of control after watching this! So many added 😂♥
I pre-ordered the alliette one, I have of their books in my TBR but this one intrigued me very much

Lovely recommendations! I will be watching for these, especially the poetry collection.

There are so many great books coming out! I know I am excited especially for remote Control.

Oh my goodness how did I forget to include Lex’s book!!
Fire with fire sounds like a older version of how to train your dragon
Most of those are going on my want list!

Certain dark things is actually a rerelease too. That book has been out for a few years now under a different publisher.
Certain Dark Things sounds amazing!
My most anticipated release is Chain of Iron, I think 😄
Thanks for some great recommendations. Some I want to get.
Have you ever read The Queen of the tearling? I think you'd love it.
I'm pretty sure that Certain Dark Things is actually backlist as well. I think this run is just a reprint.
I really want to read more short story collections next year, and Burning Girls is definitely on my list
The Secret Talker sounds soo good!
Fire with Fire... or How to Train Your Dragon (to show your sister they're not that bad)
SO hyped for Ariadne!
And Fireheart Tiger, and Burning Girls! Absolutely love TOR

Ah yeah it must be the same situation for both her books in that case!
So excited for Pride and Premeditation!!
Ariadne and Sistersong definitely

If you like YA Contemporary Fantasy about Sirens, I recommend A Song Below Water by Bethany C Morrow.
I REALLY want to read that one too!
@@JeansThoughts I thought it was excellent. Really different take on the lore and modernized. There are details that I think you'll like or appreciate as Greek mythology/classics academic.
We don't have native vampires in México, they came from Europe :D
Every culture has their own form of vampire though and a quick google of "Mexican vampire" gave me the Tlahuelpuchi, with belief if this creature having deep roots amongst the indigenous Nahua culture.

@@dubbingsync Would you look at that, I didn't know about this creature, thanks for the insight :D
I’m hoping there’s going to be another book in the series from Ambrose Parry. The first two were great. Set in Edinburgh in 18th century.
🦋👋🤩☘️☕️😷🎄📚📖
wait i'm pretty sure certain dark creatures is already out, it was published in 2016 no ?
Aha yeah I’ve now realised that is also a re-release!
I’m really looking forward to “What White People Can Do Next: From Allyship to Coalition” by Emma Dabiri, coming out on 4th March!
