I will admit that I don't read as much self-pub as I should but I have read Radiance several times and it continues to be a fave. There was so many books you mentioned that I've added to my TBR, even the urban fantasy one because you're just that persuasive 🙂
i cant even begin to explain how much here the world entire moved me completely and its something i know i will keep very very close to my heart for years to come. thank you for introducing me to it and all the other intelligent recommendations you give!
I have many thoughts on this video (loved every recommendation!) but I can’t say anything except how much I love your accidental (maybe?) Princess Leia “everyday cosplay.” It’s just the very best thing. I love it so much!
Ok so I didn’t do it on purpose but as soon as I put that white cardigan on with the buns already done I was like OMG I’m basically Disney bounding as Leia and I’m so glad someone else agrees aha so thanks!
I definitely need to refer back to this video periodically because I want to support self published authors more. I know you've mentioned a lot of these in previous videos but it's very helpful to have them all in one place.
In terms of romance, most of Kennedy Ryan's incredible contemporary romances are indies- both self pubbed and small press and quite a few are on KU. A HIGHLY recommended author that covers a number of different socio-political issues, some hard hitting, within the scope of what tend to be epic romances and diverse casts of characters. TFS :)
*flails* I adore this list. I recently bought Any Old Diamonds by KJ Charles. The Faceless Woman is *chef's kiss*--so much love for Bran. Fortuna Sworn and Trick and Into the Vanishers Palace.. I love all of this. Jean, this video was so much fun for me. LOVE. (:
Love this video! I picked up Here, the world entire recently after hearing about it from one of your previous videos and I loved it so much! I also picked up radiance and it’s sequel eidolon last year because of your recommendation and it’s now one of my favorite fantasy romance series of all time!! I keep trying to get my friends to read them now😂💗 So thank you for some amazing recommendations!!:)
This is a great video idea and so important! One of my favorite trilogies out there is a queer self published series as well and that's "The Foxhole Court" by Nora Sakavic. It's so sad to me that a lot of brilliant works are underappreciated just because they're self published. So, thank you for this video Jean :3
Since I know of your love for Greek myths and Kae Tempest, I think you should check out Ramona Meisel. She has a poetry collection called Sunblind that is modern retelling of Icarus and Apollo. She is one of the few poets I really enjoy. As for other authors I enjoy my go-to romance authors are Travena Terry, Cole McCade and Anna Zabo. For more fantastical, I just read and loved my first Aldrea Alien.
I will read absolutely anything by KJ Charles. Love seeing them acknowledged and getting the praise they deserve 💚 I really will have to pick up Grace Draven eventually!
Totally watched this in the hope that Radiance and/or The Queen of Ieflaria would make the list. Really intrigued by The Vanisher’s Palace and The Faceless Woman; no recommendations from me, I get all mine from you! 😂
@@JeansThoughts you know what’s hilarious, I knew that, but totally didn’t remember til you said something. 😂 Either way, I was stoked to see Radiance on your list because it’s so wonderful. Finally ordered the second book, can’t wait to get it. 😁
you should definitly check out PiratePressco , they are a Trans run independent publisher who split profit with charities based on what the book is about. They are also publishing short stories and poetry in their weekly Monday stories. Super cute!!
Nah, fantasy of manners can have magic! 🙂 It can also not have magic, of course. It's a subgenre that owes a lot to comedy of manners, historical romance, and/or historical adventure. It often has to do with a society with strict social mores or hierarchy, and often, like Wikipedia says: "The protagonists are not pitted against fierce monsters or marauding armies, but against their neighbors and peers". I really love the genre, and it holds a lot inside it.
Love that you mentioned Here, The World Entire. No one ever talks about it, but it did something to my soul. Loved it.
More love for this book!!!
Ah this is awesome, I've been looking to try out some self-published books in 2021
YAY these are all phenomenal!! Let me know if you pick any up :D

Yay happy to be of help - hope it proves a helpful resource and you enjoy the books!
Such good tips, very interesting, thanks!

No man of woman born is next for me in the Queer Lit Readathon and Here, the world entire is the book I will be buying after my book buying ban ends!
Aaaah yay I hope you enjoy it! Perfect Pride reading :D.
I haven't heard of any of these but read self published a lot so will need to check these out
They are so good!

The Queen of Ieflaria isn’t self published 😁 it’s published by a small press called Nine Star but I do love it ;)

Love me some Grace Draven! Radiance and the sequels are all wonderful!
Here the world entire sounds really good I'm definetely going to add it to my ever growing TBR. 📚💯👌
It really is!!
I really enjoyed Here, the World Entire. My heart broke for her.
I know right - it really brought her trauma to life :(
The Faceless Woman is one of my favorite books EVER ❤❤❤❤❤ so good
I concur!
A great self published book series is the Phenomenal Fate series by Tessa Bailey- it’s a vampire romance series I’ve been loving!!
Aaah I've read some of her traditionally published work so I'll have to check this out!
Aliette de Bodard has a backlog I really need to get to.
Where do I find these books? I want to read more self-published books.
They’re all linked in the description box :)
I immediately bought like half of these. halp.
You won't regret it aha

as far as i know fantasy with no magic is called fantasy of manners :)
