I DIDN’T KNOW THE SPARROW HAD A SEQUEL!!!!! Ahhh I loved that book, but yes I’m definitely going to let you read it first lol. Excited to know if its worth picking up
I finished the Count Of Monte Cristo early this year. I took my time with it but it was so wortht. I love it. Regarding the Wheel of Time, I would say that if you don't feel very impress by book one, pick book 2 before dropping the series. The Eye of the World it's more formulaic and it takes a lot of the common tropes of its time so it may feel very Tolkienesque. Book 2 really shows him as an author and how he separates from this formula to write his own thing. Don't feel discouraged if you don't love book 1, I didn't like it that much and here I am at book 10 now.
I found your channel 2 days ago and I’m mesmerized. I’m binge watching, pre-ordered some books at the library and set up a new Amazon wishlist. I’m pretty sure I will have some great time in 2021. English is not my first language too but if you can read thousands of pages, so can I.
Wow your list is a mirror of either my TBR or books I have read and enjoyed. There is nothing on your list that I haven’t either already read or want to read. I’d say about 80% are on my TBR. I’ve been enjoying your channel for about a year now. Usually I agree with your assessment of a book, not always but usually. You’ve pretty much convinced me to join your Patreon and read along. I’ve been thinking about what I will read in 2021. Though I do need to do a small push of 7 books this week to reach my Goodreads goal of 100 books. I may just go along with you as part of my reading this year. Maybe I’m being lazy letting you pick the books, but during the video I kept saying “Yes! I want to read that!” I even had a brief moment of insanity and though I might read the Count of Monte Christo in French, but I haven’t read a book in French since I had a French speaking student about 18 years ago and got him a French edition of The Hobbit so he could follow along with the first book I always read aloud to my students every year of my teaching career. And most of that was before the Peter Jackson films came out. Unfortunately I have not maintained my junior high/high school French since then. Thank you for jump starting my 2021 reading. I’m heading over to Patreon now.
I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on Wise Man's Fear and nervous for you because it strays from the school. There's one detour that you may have strong opinions about... Lies of Locke Lamora and the series is fun! Sneaky swashbuckling types!
Honestly I binged the first three books in the Stormlight Archive and I’m 19 chapters into Rhythm of War. I’ve never done this with a series and I fell in love with it back when I read The Way of Kings! I too am excited to start The Wheel of Time too next year! 😍
The Wheel of Time is 14 books + a prequel. The Eye of the World is really the introduction, it's where you're gonna see similarities with LOTR, where the characters and the world are introduced. Just enjoy the journey and maybe you will pick up some of the foreshadowing :) the audiobook can be good if slow pace is an issue for you
Excited to see people picking up Eye of the World in 2021. Bedtime Bookworm is doing a go-at-your-own-pace read along as well. Important to remember it's a marathon not a sprint. 14 book series gives a lot of time to really delve into the characters. Also don't Google anything. Not even how to spell names. Autocomplete will spoil things for you. If you do end up liking the series there's an app you can download that sorts information by book so you can look things up without being spoiled. Hope you like it, but it's okay if you don't.!
It’s great to have a physical copy of the early wheel of time books because, if you’re like me, you’ll be in that glossary a lot. I’ve read them countless times and have a chapter icon tattooed on my back. So many great books on your tbr. I love so many!!
Regarding Octavia Butler, I haven't read Kindred yet but I started out with Lilith's Brood and LOVED it. I couldn't put it down. It's so so good and I also usually like what you read so I think you would really enjoy it! But I bet Kindred is very good too, I really have to get to it in 2021.
The Lies of Locke Lamora and The Rage of Dragons ARE AMAZING!! I hope u like them, they're in my best books of 2020 and of all time. I hope u read them soon to know ur opinions.
I don’t really read much sci-fi or fantasy but your channel is still one of my favorites. I think it’s the way you talk about books and you’re just so excited! I did read Starsight and Scythe on your recommendation and LOVED THEM. I also really enjoyed Ninth House and The Invisible Life of Addie Larue so I would take any other recommendations you have based on those ones!
I'm at 100 pages of A Deadly Education and I feel conflicted about it so far. There are things I like but also some things that I dislike. My main issue is that it tells rather than shows. But I hope you enjoy it more than I am atm. Also the one book I'm definitely reading in 2021 is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.
I am planning on rereading Eye of the World this year and I want to continue The Count of Monte Cristo, which are the only two books from your list that I own. I would love to read along with you, but I can't afford Patreon. You have made me add a lot of books to my holds list at my library, a few I had actually started reading, but many I had never heard of. This is a good list and I am excited to get started reading these books as well as catching up on my current library books.
Glad to see the Rage of Dragons on your list! Easily one of my favorite books of the year. Its sequel- Fires of Vengeance- is also incredible. Also, I'm a few pages into Lies of Locke Lamora and pretty nervous about whether it will live up to the hype.
The Count of Monte Cristo is on my list. I'm slowly making my way through and it's going to be weird and surreal when I do finish it. I have so many, and this year I want to focus on finishing big books within a few months instead of a few years.
I loved The Sparrow (I read it because you recommended it!) and I totally agree it works perfectly as a stand alone. I'm looking forward to hearing if you think the 2nd book is worth it haha
Oh hell yes! So many of these are on my TBR so I’m excited to read them along with you. I need to read Kindred. I actually just finished Parable of the Sower last night and it’s my favorite book of the year. I vote for The Eye of the World for January for selfish reasons! Lol there’s another booktuber doing a readalong in January so it would be sweet to knock out 2 for 1.
You have quite a few that's on my shelf as well that would be nice to read together! Especially that Wheel of Time one! I hope you pick it to read soon!
Left Hand of Darkness is one of my all time favorite books!! And I’m not even a big sci fi fan. I’ve tried reading other LeGuin books tho and didn’t like them but have re-read LHoD more than once! Hope you like it! :)
I'm trying to read more fantasy and scifi as well and I was so happy to see that I already have every "classic scifi" book you mentioned on my shelf!!! A few days ago I read To Be Taught, If Fortunate, and it totally got me back into the genre. One of the best books of my 2020 for sure. Thanks for getting me so inspired to read more!!! Happy holidays!
Hi, I just wanted to warn you about 2 books you are planning on reading. 1/ Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie is a very VERY character driven book. There is not really a plot tbh. I personally love that stuff, but I also know you are more of a plot reader. So I just wanted to warn you in advance so you aren't too surprised and disappointed. I still recommend you the series and don't worry, Abercrombie focuses on plot of his books after the first one much more. 2/ Then there is the Eye of the World. Robert Jordan was very inspired by Tolkien. And I mean very inspired. The first half of the book is kinda like Fellowship of the Ring. But Jordan then made the series his own thing and he has some of the most interesting world building, his strong suit was the cultures. But just keep that in mind.
I gasped out loud when that book came out of the packet damaged haha. I also laughed when you held up the Count of Monte Cristo. Girl, you need to read that book 😂😂 So many of these are on my list too. I'm excited to see what you think of the Liveship Traders trilogy, I think it's great. I've only read the first Farseer book so I might go back and finish the trilogy, and then continue on with the Rain Wilds series. I think you can start with Kindred for Octavia E. Butler, I did. I've only read that one and the short story Bloodchild (really weird), but I don't think it's too challenging or anything. Good luck with all these books!
I always like watching your videos your upfront with the books you do like and ones you dont. I recognized a couple books you had been talking about for a while that you wanted to read. 2021 is the year to complete them lol.
Yes, I too will jump on the "Lies of Lock Lamore" band wagon (its a very tight squeeze) I will read the second installment in 2021. I also want to read "Kings of the Wyld" and begin "The Poppy Wars". Whew! My list is beginning to look a little bit like Emily's!
Hope you have a better time with Brave New World than I did. Like you I had read 1984 and Fahrenheit so I figured I would read this one and I had lots of issues. I really love the first book in the Foundation trilogy though!
So many of these books are on my tbr for this year too, I hope if you're reading them I'll be motivated to pick them up too 😹 I definitely want to carry on with, and hopefully finished, the Stormlight Archives this year!
I think you'll love A Deadly Education. I can tell you that it reads aloud very well (I was our main reader). Not sure whether that's a recommend for the audiobook, or for you to read it to Steve.
I started reading Eye of the World as an audiobook while I was on a long car ride... it reads a lot faster and a lot easier than I was expecting, and the audiobook definitely helped with my fear of it, too!!
Oh wow!! I own about 90% of those books and need to read most of them in 2021 too 😁 I’m currently reading The Blade Itself since I got the box set for Christmas. The Sword of Kaigen is on my list as is Brave New World. I really enjoyed Senlin Ascends and hope you enjoy too!
Wow, your entire list is my entire list pretty much!! The fantasy section I mean. Wheel of Time is my biggest goal this year (not the whole series, I think I will consume it in parts but at least the first few books). I also have Dune on my list because I want to try reading it first before the movie, and gothic classics perhaps Rebecca.
I started the Wheel of Time series in 2020 and I enjoyed Eye of the World, but nervous to continue. He definitely likes to describe things, but the magic is pretty neat.
I really want to read The Furies of Calderon too! It's been on my list for forever and I finally got a kindle copy for 99p! It's definitely on my 2021 list! :) Also, hyped for you to read the Brave New World. We studied it in school and I loved it (albeit upon first read, not so much xD)
I loved Unkindness of Ghosts! i read it last year. Its written very interestingly and yes, trigger warnings apply. Overall a very good read that will sit with you for a while. I do recommend it but its not a happy read.
Yeah, I've read it during lock down, like I wasn't depressed enough. I bought the other book she wrote about mermaids, if I remember correctly "The deep". It's on my liste for 2021.
Personally I'd recommend you start with Lilith's Brood series by Octavia E Butler it's a first contact with aliens and much more sci-fi than Kindred. Although Kindred is a great book! And I think her most popular one
I’m seriously jealous you get to experience Words of Radiance for the first time. Weird? Lol It’s amazing..probably the best fantasy books I’ve ever read.
Ohhh, The Left Hand of Darkness is one of my favorite books of all time! Over the years, I’ve probably read like 3 times already but it’s a bit different experience every time. It’s not an easy read but if you liked The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, I think you might like this one too.
What the what! I've got so many of the same books on my TBR for 2021! I'm breaking out of my classics and non-fiction hole and breaking out into fantasy and more classic sci-fi so this is amazing! My hubby and I are reading the full wheel of time series, I definitely want to read Jade City, Nam e of the Wind, First Law Trilogy, continue the Foundation trilogy i just finished the first book (it was dry so brace yourself but the second half i loved), i've got other books by ursula le guin on my list as well! so many similarities how fun! I'll have to join your patreon now just so we can chat about it 💖🔥💖
I'm eager to see how you like Children of God! I picked up The Sparrow this year mainly from your recommendation and while it was intense, it was SO well done and has stayed with me (and the Aricebo radio tower this month 😔)
Wise Man's Fear definitely suffers form middle book syndrome with no final book to help pull you through. I'm considering giving the Wheel of Time series another go. I think I got four or five books in before I gave up last time, but the romance just killed me. I'm hoping that this time through I can know that disappointment is coming and try to ignore all the hair tugging and make it farther. The Count of Monte Cristo is on my list but I don't plan on completely finishing it as I have been challenged to read it in French which I have just started learning again. Don't worry, I bought some middle grade and young adult books steeped in personal nostalgia in French to read through to help get me going so I'm not too stressed. My goal in 2021 is to try to not get 25 books at a time from the library so I don't feel pressured to read or give up if I don't click with a book right away. We'll see how long that lasts though.
Omg pleaseee read The Count of Montecristo part II . While the first part is good, it is nothing compared to the second one. The first part took me about a month to get through but the second part took me literally two days. The actual revenge is just soo brilliantly executed I could not stop reading. Go for it, I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did :b
I'm on book 9 of the Wheel of Time series (being doing audiobooks, the narrators are great) and as I was pulling in to work yesterday there was a moment that made me say "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!" alone in my car. I was amped all day to keep going. Love it. Also one of my dogs is named after a horse in the series (Pips)!
Oh this is exciting because so many of these series have languished on my Goodreads TBR but I actually haven't made an effort to read fantasy like I thought I would when I added them. Especially interested to see if you recommend Joe Abercrombie books because I recently thought again about reading those. I am super curious to hear your thoughts on Eye of the World! I did not like that book haha but it is one of my friend's FAVOURITE books of all time and I really did want to try classically popular/famous adult fantasy. I don't know if I jumped ship too early but it's such an investment series anyways. I recently bought Kindred but now I'm scared to read it because I've heard more about the heavy content. I giggled when you mentioned Count, reminder to myself that I watch your videos too much haha! This year I'm going to try the Shades of Magic series and Lord of the Rings :)
The Foundation trilogy is the one that opened the door for me and got me into the whole scifi genre. 😁 It blew my mind. It starts a bit dry but totally worth it. This year I have read Dawn by Octavia E. Butler and again, mind=blown. It’s the first book of the Lilith’s Broos trilogy, there’s some first contact with aliens, but it is not the main topic of the books. After finishing the trilogy, I have to say, that Dawn is my favorite of the three books, however I like the other two as well. Butler doesn’t see anything only in black&white. Whenever you read about a moral lesson or wisdom you kinda agree with, you can be sure that she fooled you and she will destroy it in front of your very eyes in the next book. Love her
I'm not a huge adult fantasy reader, and for the book club for me personally I'd prefer standalones? At least a few so it doesn't feel like such a commitment
lots of books on this list that i want to read as well. A brave new world, its one of the few classics i truly love, its not without flaws but as i scientist in formation i tend to always think about that book whenever i read scientifict papers with experiments that can be ethically cuestionable, it also has one of my favourite quotes so i hope you like it. By the way, i want to thank you fo recomending "to be taught, if fortunate", i´ve been struggling a lot with the project that i have to do in order to get my masters degree, to the point where i was thinking of quitting, and reading that book reminded me of how much i love science and why i do it, gave me lots of motivation, so thank you.
i was like being serious and stuff for the whole video but when le comte de monte-cristo came up i laugh so loud. it's so funny tho. so so funny. rooting for you, this time it's real!!!!!
Start with Kindred. Children of God is really good. I was scared to read it because I loved The Sparrow so much. I really enjoyed the author’s commentary at the end if the books I read, they were insightful.
So basically, these are also all the books on my tbr. I love Robin Hobb, though have yet to read the Live Ship Traders. I plan to read all her books set in that universe. And I am so ready to take on Robert Jordan: magic, possible insanity...yes please. I have read The Lies of Lock Lamora though, and loved it. One of the few books that make "segue" flashbacks work. And PS, I love your channel so much Miss Fox :)
damn, i'm so excited and nervous for you to start wheel of time series! it's one of my favorite fantasy series even tho im currently reading the six one. i've a feeling that you are not gonna like it but i want you to like it?
Which one are you the most excited about?
OMG Dumas 😁
The Eye of the World! The Wheel of Time is my favorite fantasy series :)
AHHH i love the Codex Alera series! hope you like it too! :)
Continuing the three body problem! I am 50 % through and love it so far :) but also the poppy war series, rage of dragons, the way of kings
I DIDN’T KNOW THE SPARROW HAD A SEQUEL!!!!! Ahhh I loved that book, but yes I’m definitely going to let you read it first lol. Excited to know if its worth picking up

I usually end up reading half... but I'm hopeful this year will be successful XD
I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on Wise Man's Fear and nervous for you because it strays from the school. There's one detour that you may have strong opinions about...
Lies of Locke Lamora and the series is fun! Sneaky swashbuckling types!
I loved Words of Radiance even more than Way of Kings. I think you will really enjoy it!
Emily really said 'let me read all of the most popular fantasy books out there'
I have some catching up to do 💁♀️
Honestly I binged the first three books in the Stormlight Archive and I’m 19 chapters into Rhythm of War. I’ve never done this with a series and I fell in love with it back when I read The Way of Kings! I too am excited to start The Wheel of Time too next year! 😍
I loved the expression of your face while you were showing LCdM-C. I plan to read Dumas this year too, let's check that box this year!

So many great books on your tbr. I love so many!!
Emily in the beginning of the video with a whole bunch of books: "This is ridiculous"
Me: You can never have too many books.
The ridiculous part was me trying to hold them all XD
AMEN!
Joe Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy is one of my favorite fantasy series.
Me too!
@@Cynthia-vm3ee it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It is excellent.

Your 2021 TBR looks a lot like mine, so I signed up as a patron. Good luck to everyone trying to tackle these chunky books in the new year!
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on A Deadly Education. I also did not like Uprooted but I think Novik VASTLY improved with A Deadly Education.
I have so many of the same books/series on my TBR. Just bought the same first law edition last month and started the blade itself two days ago.
7:44 that hurts my soul too
It was brand new!!! -_-
@@BookswithEmilyFox you should return it and get another one for free😄

I always like watching your videos your upfront with the books you do like and ones you dont. I recognized a couple books you had been talking about for a while that you wanted to read. 2021 is the year to complete them lol.
My husband and daughter, Love, love, loves Jim Butcher Dresden Files series. We have to go and get the new one on days it comes out.

I’ve read all but one of the fantasy books and I love your lineup! I’m really interested in book clubbing the others. :)
I started the Wheel of Time series in 2020 and I enjoyed Eye of the World, but nervous to continue. He definitely likes to describe things, but the magic is pretty neat.
the left hand of darkness is my favorite book of all time!
I really want to read The Furies of Calderon too! It's been on my list for forever and I finally got a kindle copy for 99p! It's definitely on my 2021 list! :)
Also, hyped for you to read the Brave New World. We studied it in school and I loved it (albeit upon first read, not so much xD)
Definitely want to read Jade City this year. It'll be my first ever urban fantasy! :)
I managed the wheel of time series by both reading/listening at the same time. The audiobooks are so well read and good. Love the narrators.
Sword of Kaigen is one of my top three for 2020. It's actually a spinoff of a discontinued series. It wasn't flawless, but certainly most enjoyable.
Agreed!
The Left Hand of Darkness is one of my favorite books of ALL TIME!! Since you like sci-fi I'm sure you'll like it. The concept is just AMAZING
There is also a graphic novel of Kindred that’s not bad. If you want to just get an idea of the story, you could read that first in a short time
When you showed The Count of Monte Cristo i actually laughed out loud xD yup, yup, SHAME! xD I really hope you finish that one next year ^^
I didnt super vibe with uprooted or deadly education but I thought spinning silver was amazing
I've read almost all the books on your 2021 TBR and I highly recommend everything
a ton of these are also on my tbr! I'm so excited! Joe Abercrombie is my fave, I'm up to date on all his books, great stuff!!
Our TBR for the year is nearly identical!!!
I’m seriously jealous you get to experience Words of Radiance for the first time. Weird? Lol It’s amazing..probably the best fantasy books I’ve ever read.
so excited for you to finally finish monte cristo!! better late than never 😜
Absolutely loveeeeed The Ship of Magic! So so amazing!
Ohhh, The Left Hand of Darkness is one of my favorite books of all time! Over the years, I’ve probably read like 3 times already but it’s a bit different experience every time. It’s not an easy read but if you liked The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, I think you might like this one too.
I am debating picking up eye of the world too ...
I recommend the audiobooks for The Wheel of Time.
I'll have to join your patreon now just so we can chat about it 💖🔥💖
The Red Riding series absolutely pops off in the next couple books, hopefully you'll enjoy it!
Love her
I absolutely love Brave New World, looking forward to hearing your thoughts !😍
I'm not a huge adult fantasy reader, and for the book club for me personally I'd prefer standalones? At least a few so it doesn't feel like such a commitment
I bought Le Comte de Monte Cristo because of you! But in a single edition, and uhhhh, 1400 pages is quite intimidating haha. 2021 allons-y!
An Unkindness of Ghosts is such an amazing book. It was one of my favorites from this year!
lots of books on this list that i want to read as well.
Wow! The first four books are literally my tbr! And yay, means I’ll get to hear your thoughts of the books I’m excited for
Start with Kindred. Children of God is really good. I was scared to read it because I loved The Sparrow so much. I really enjoyed the author’s commentary at the end if the books I read, they were insightful.
Start with "Dawn" by Octavia Buttler, it's a first contact with aliens book so I think You will enjoy it more
So basically, these are also all the books on my tbr.
Kindred is not what you expect. At first I didn't like it, but once I understood the INTENTIONALITY of everything, I was blown away and enthralled.
damn, i'm so excited and nervous for you to start wheel of time series! it's one of my favorite fantasy series even tho im currently reading the six one. i've a feeling that you are not gonna like it but i want you to like it?
All the fantasy series are also on my TBR 😊
My list is pretty much whatever ebooks are on sale haha. Would love to read some Brandon Sanderson next year.
The Sparrow was sooooo good!
