I don’t have a set TBR for June/summer yet but I requested these from the library: Tokyo Ever After, You Will Get Through This Night, Lore, Ace of Spades, One Last Stop & Malibu Rising
Battle Royale, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, American Psycho, Christine, Beartown, The Name of the Wind or Game of Thrones (I'm not sure which one yet) and more!
You should exclusively read books with faces on the cover for a month. Call it the "Out of Focus" challenge. That's all I've got, I'm kinda BLURRY on the details. I'll see myself out.
@@BookswithEmilyFox Since you don't move around very much (and have the same setup each video), what happens if you turn the auto focus off and have it manually focused to your depth?
I remember LOVING Trudi Canavan's books when I was a teenager. If I remember correctly the magical school element only really kicks in in the second book. They were all very readable though and the magic system is great.
I loved the Trudi Canavan trilogy, good twists and starts off like it's predictable and then ends up definitely not. I was very impressed with them, why have I not read more of hers yet!! 😘
Rivers Solomon is an amazing author! I read all three of their books this year, and I'm consistently surprised, challenged & delighted by their storytelling. Amazing.
Yees so exciting! He's just writing so much. I'm also thrilled for the third Skyward book in fall. And also looking forward to the continuations of Elantris and Warbreaker... There is just so much to be excited about.
I really like the Black Magician trilogy (The Magician's Guild) so I would vote for that. But Feist is meant to be great too so I don't think you can go too far wrong with either
The two books you should deffo read are magicians guild and magicians apprentice. I recently read them both and loved them! I think you’d really like the sci-fi twist in the Reymond e feist books. You don’t really get into the magic school part of magicians guild properly until the second book but all of Trudy canavans books are my faves ☺️
Good luck with your Summer TBR. The Knife of Never Letting Go sounds interesting.📚 Lots of Booktubers have been reading the Count of Monte Cristo lately.
Of the three magic books, I think you’ll like Magician’s Guild the least, due to a romantic element. I enjoyed all three, though I read the Raymond Feist series as a child, so I don’t know how well it holds up. I loved it back then.
OMG I got so hyped when I saw you bring out The Magician's Guild! I hope you'll (finally) give it a try. It's my comfort series that I go back to time and time again. I also love Feist's Magician: Apprentice, but it's mainly for nostalgic reasons, and I suspect you won't enjoy it as much.
@@karolovesbooks2233 For one thing, the writing can be pretty verbose in an awkward way. The narration is a hit or miss for me. Some sentences flow well, but some seem clumsy. It's almost like the author constantly tries to find ways to use all the words that he knows in his writing. I also find the characters all talk pretty much the same way, regardless of age. If the author didn't mention who said what, it's pretty hard to differentiate between the characters. And of course, there's a clear lack of female representation in the books. I've only read the first 5 books in the series, but so far there are very few women characters and they are pretty much stereotypical of what they're expected to be in a medieval fantasy setting. Not sure if that improves in later books.
Words of Radiance is actually my favourite book in the series so far! Can't wait to hear your reactions on some of the character interactions and plot points:) I read The Rithmatist earlier this year and it wasn't what I expected (felt something between middle school and YA?) but I wasn't disappointed, definitely gonna pick up the sequel once it's someday written and published. I recently finished The House in the Cerulean Sea and now reading Midnight Library (in Finnish though) and waiting for Kindred to arrive in mail. Not sure what to pick for summer reads after that though. Possibly Red Rising (if I can get over the present tense writing) or the second book of Narrenturm.
Trudi Canavan is my favourite author and I feel like we don't see enough of her books on booktube so I'd definitely recommend The Magician's Guild! Such a good trilogy!
this is it!! hope you get through The Toll this season 🤞🏼 on another note, I hope you try Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Like Scythe, it was an interesting dystopian setting. It's still my fave Neal Shusterman after all these years.
I really liked the Rithmatist and would say you should start there...excepted it's not finished and from the sounds of it, we won't see the second book for at ;east another year or two. So I guess you could put this one back on the list next year! :)
Very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the Millennium series! I also need to read The Toll and finish that series. I'm also enjoying it too. It's just been a while, haha 🖤
I didn't have time to watch RUclips videos lately so there are 5 videos that I need to catch up on (looking at the bright side), all the books mentioned here seem so cool, cannot wait to see what you ended up reading :D My reading life is very dry right now, I barely manage to read a book a month which makes me so sad, so I live vicariously through booktube at the moment. Also your dress/top is so cute!
I liked Magician, Magician’s Guild, and Rithmatist. Magician is the series that introduced me to fantasy when I was a kid. The first two are ok but it really finds its stride at Silverthorn (it switches gears to become more urban/thieves/political). My all-time fav, however is the tangent trilogy he wrote with Wurts (Daughter of the Empire - soooo good!) which I’d recommend reading after the second Magician. The Canavan trilogy was fun - a lot of great magic school feels. I would definitely steer clear of the audiobook, for me the narrator was nasally and horrendous, totally wrecking my reread lol. And Rithmatist was awesome when it came to immersing in the school/magic system! Easily my favorite YA from him. Happy reading! Always enjoy your videos. :)
I absolutely love the magicians guild and have never seen anyone on booktube talk about it! Would love for you to read it. Great female lead and magic system x
I recently read The Rithmatist, I was also hesitant because it's YA and I really enjoyed it. I kinda thought about it randomly, so it definitely made an impression. The series from Trudi Caravan is also great but I'm not sure if I would like it now as an adult (I read it in middle school) and in hindsight it isn't that unique/there are a lot of similar books. The Rithmatist is just so special and interesting to me. Hope you enjoy whatever you pick Emily!
Oh I haven't read Rithmatist yet! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on that one. I just finished Magician: Apprentice, and it honestly disappointed me. Let's see whether it will click with you better or not! I am almost sure that you're going to hate The Wise Man's Fear, but will love Words of Radiance and Before They Are Hanged! Happy reading to you! :)
The girl with the dragon tattoo series then on to the millennium series are my all time favorites! Its hard to even have a favorite i will say the girl who played with fire annoys me for 1 reason and once ur done i could tell you lol but the remaining 4 i am obsessed with! Oh the one after this one is intense!!!!!!!!!
I’m so happy that you are reading Louise Penny! I just read A Better Man this month and have loved the entire series. I’ve also reread the first 13 books but listened to it on audio and they are fantastic as well. Your summer reading list looks great, June I’m going to tackle some books that have been on my shelves for a few years, Jane Eyre, and a couple retelling. July I try to read some SciFi and I really enjoyed The Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeves, so I’m going to try the prequel series to it, plus Record of a Spaceborn Few and The Martian. August I tend to switch to YA Fantasy, before the darker, heavier reads of autumn start.
I do that thing where you just stop for no real reason, the place those books go is referred to as The Box of doom and someday I will empty it! Also, read Trudy Canavan and Raymond EvFeist as your magic school books, both are excellent series starters although I was surprised at how thin your copy of magician is, mine is 1000ish pages.
OMG Friday was freezing?? It was 2 degrees here. Freaking Canada. Also I'm reading The Rithmatist right now and I'm really liking it! Definitely suggesting that one I didn't super love The Wise Man's Fear, but it was still pretty good WORDS OF RADIANCE IS AMAZING
I just enjoyed Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler! I was totally blown away by the world she described and the journey they all take. Haven't read the second one yet.
I am for Trudi Caravan and Raymond Feist. I read both series years ago, I think the Feist series got more downhill during each book. Definetly read Trudi Caravan.
I'm looking forward to your opinions on An Unkindness of Ghosts! I'm currently reading that too. Also, I just got the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on your recommendation :)
I've read both The Magician's Guild and Magician: Apprentice. I enjoyed both, the latter more so because I'm planning on reading it a third time this year. I liked Magician's Guild enough to want to read the second book at some point soon.
Good luck on this ambitious summer bibliography. I’m not sure what you should prioritize. Le Count might be worth the progress since you mentioned you are enjoying it. This summer I’ll probably read books my library’s Twitter recommends (NYPL_Reccomends). I’m not usually at 25 books finish before June without school reading lists.
there's something about the knife of never letting go that just DESTROYED me. i finished it a couple of weeks ago and i cannot stop thinking about it. the rest of the trilogy is on my tbr for this summer!
Rithmatist is excellent and I think MG but bookstores move it around all the time. I'm so interested in trying Trudi Canavan! Please announce it before you read it!
You should definitely read we were villains . It is amazing and I loved it so much tho it’s not for everyone but I still highly recommend it . One of the best books I have ever read.
i've been finishing series that i started years ago, too. i just finished the lunar chronicles and am on book 3 of the raven cycle and book 2 of the grisha trilogy. i've been in a reading slump, though, so i haven't really made progress with siege and storm.

Definitely The Rithmatist. Extremely underrated and one of Sanderson’s best books. Age-wise, it is supposed to be middle grade. But i don’t think it reads that way. It is fantastic.
WORDS OF RADIANCE IS AMAZING!!! SOME OF MY FAVORITE SCENES OF ALL TIME!!! :D And just a quick comment that the series is 10 books split in 2 arcs so this one is "just 5" books and the 4th one obvi came out last year so not too too long to wait to finish the arc of these characters :D
I read the millennium trilogy last summer and it was so much fun! I was extremely addicted and read them all in a week (which wasn't very healthy tbh 😂)
Okay in case you need to know I'd like to give you a HUGE trigger warning for Knife of Never Letting Go. Mild SPOILER: There is a some animal stuff in this book that hurt my soul so much I threw away the book (I couldn't even bring myself to donate it) and I refuse to read anything else from this author. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The chosen and The Count of Monte Cristo.

TRUDI CANAVAN! YESSSSSS!!!! The Black Magician trilogy is such a GOOD!
The Rithmatist is such an under rated Sanderson book. I love how he handles the magic system in that one.
^^
The Rithmatist is SO good! It was the first Sanderson book I ever read!
The knife of never letting go is a freaking *journey*
I picked up the rithmatist in a used bookstore like two years ago, and I have heard nothing about it! Maybe I should put it on my summer tbr.
I remember LOVING Trudi Canavan's books when I was a teenager. If I remember correctly the magical school element only really kicks in in the second book. They were all very readable though and the magic system is great.
I jumped right into your video leaving everything behind 😂😂😂
Same! 🤣
Omg the Rithmatist was so good!!! That was my first Sanderson book and I loved it!
