    Just got my 24L CPL -- loving the architecture and fabrics. Light.
    Organization is minimal, but that creates room for your various pouches. Business paper friendly.

    Chase, I love your videos. I’m a bag person, love bags so much, so important to me. You made me pull the trigger on synik, came from Tumi. I was wondering why you don’t have tumi review? Still trying to make the shift, but some time I miss Tumi alpha backpack in-term of organization. I was wondering what’s your thoughts? Thanks

    I dig these Evergoods bags but…what exactly do you use to create organization? Some kind of packing cubes?

  • @nathanbouton3323

    Ultimate backpack for daily, carrying heavy books for school, and minimal travel. Would you go GR1, or CPL24? (Or maybe even mission workshop Rhake, but not sure on that one. Considered the brown buffalo conceal 26l also, just not sure about that organization setup and the huge Velcro section). Backpacks for school that I’ve used in the past just don’t normally work out for me, or break, so I need your help! I’m 6’3” if that helps you judge size.

    It's very appealing to me due to the "day-hike-readyness". But for these short outdoorsy trips on a weekend I'll want to bring camera gear. How does it handel throwing in a tripod plus a camera inlet (similar to the boundry thing)? I may also want to use my hydration bladder. Would that be too much stuff for the bag?

  • @anthonium.
    @anthonium. 6 лет назад +13

    Although I miss the screaming in your videos, this was a great intro! That hair flip...awesome! As for the bag, definitely interesting but I see room for improvement. I currently have a backpack (fossil, yes a brand name, this was pre-chase era mind you) that has the same exact front type pocket with the zipper on the opposite side of where I need it to be. I carry my bag on the right shoulder (like some sort of hip college kid) and expect to swing it up front to open the zipper on the front pocket with my left hand. I think bag designers feel right handers should be reaching in with their right hand into the bag and design the pocket and zipper so you carry it or bring it about over your left shoulder. Minor issue but it makes all the difference to me.
    On another note, does the material pick up dirt or pet hair easily? Perhaps future videos can incorporate a cat or small dog that you rub all over the backpack. Jk animal lovers!

    Enjoy your channel and I am checking out this bag further for purchase. I am looking through your other videos to see if you have reviewed a bag you would recommend for musicians? I am a gigging drummer and I am looking for a bag that I could use for sticks, in ear monitor sets/ mics and cables? Also need somewhere for contracts.. ya know.. business papers and such... Have you reviewed anything like that or have any suggestions?

    Chase great review as always. I totally agree with your right handed carry philosophy. When you transport a bag in the car and you're the driver, its typically your right hand that's used to pull it in and out of the car unless you face the rear of the car. Thus its always easiest to pull it up to your right shoulder rather than switching sides to the left, that's what works for me anyway. Bag designers take note people use both arms to carry their bags, why not design bags so they can be accessed from both sides. 2nd complaint about this bag and the reason I would never buy it. No external bottle holder. Get with the program as Chase says everyone carries a water bottle nowadays, we need a place for it where we don't have to worry about it spilling out on our expensive electronics.

    Solved the front compartment issue by using Velcro to divide it in half to create two pockets. Loving it besides that.

    Is it big enough for travel? My primary bag needs are for school (heavy books), and travel. I’m not a one bag guy, but am trying to be more minimal. Is it big enough for a weekend trip? Are the straps comfortable enough for heavy loads?

    That’s a great looking bag ... I get what you’re saying about the lack of organisation and the handles ... the perfect bag doesn’t exist however there is always something however small that is annoying about any bag. Perhaps it’s ok to like the idea of this bag more then the bag itself.

    Hi Chase, how do you think this would work as a 2nd (personal item) bag for travel? I have a TB Aeronaut that I often use for business and family trips but I like to have a smaller bag at my seat on the plane and for everyday use at my destination. This one checks a lot of boxes, but could you put a shoulder strap on it? I find it's awkward to travel with 2 backpacks, and prefer the Aeronaut in BP mode. If not this bag, what would you recommend instead?

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  5 лет назад

      I would prefer to have a messenger style bag in the case you're talking about... you're right about two backpacks being too much to handle often, especially with the way the harness on this one is so tailored to the body; wouldn't fit well on a person's front.

    • @bobshuff6156
      @bobshuff6156 5 лет назад

      @@chasereeves Thanks for the quick response. Someone on the TB forum suggested I take both the daylight backpack and daylight briefcase with me on trips. I noticed you like their backpacks (I have the S25 too), and the daylight backpack probably good for most exploring at my destination. I'm looking at a packable Mystery Ranch In and Out for the same purpose. The Daylight Briefcase in gray Cordura is my daily carry for work today, and I've taken it as a 2nd bag on trips, but it's not so interesting and a little too small. It fits all my tech and work gear, but not a jacket and water bottle. I think it's also sorta like your Topo Mountain Briefcase - lacking just a little organization. Any suggestions for a slightly larger and slightly more organized messenger that has some style?

    I have the CPL24 for almost 8 months now and it is by far the most comfortable carry pack I ever had. Of course, I had the right handed access with left hand issue and wished they had the zippers open towards the other side. I got bored with the sleek look and added a tail to it.

    I bought this on a sale and it’s the best ever.... except now they are coming out with a V2 that literally fixes every minor complaint I had. Chase are you planning on doing an V2 review when that comes out? Slightly worried the it will have one too many quick access pockets but I’m probably going to get it for the laptop secure strap, and front pocket organization.

  • @jamesbaron9167

    When I want to make a bag purchase decision, I come and find inspirations here. That's why I repeatedly watch your stylish reviews.
    I agree with you on the front pocket on 'wrong side" of the bag definitely, and me too am a righter. This third time watch reminds me why I chose to give up on such a great EDC bag.
    However, this time I'm considering it as a one-bag travel companion (with laptop). My only concern becomes its size instead of "wrong side" thing because I'll take along a side kick --- AER sling. To travel with laptop, I don't believe Synapse 25 is a great choice although it's my favourite travel bag. The reason is I can't find the best way to put in my laptop due to the "CS"-contour of the bag, with C being front S being back shape. Btw, those two bags purchase decisions are made upon your reviews. My final candidates this time are CPL24, Brown Buffalo CB26L, WANDRD PRVKE 31 and Boundary Prima. **********In terms of real volume, how much do they hold based on your real in-life use experience as compared to Synapse 25?**********

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  5 лет назад

      Those bags you mention all hold fairly similar amount. Brown buffalo 26L conceal and Wandrd prvke probably having slightly more.

    The CPL is quite literally my favorite backpack, However I hate hate hate hate hateeeeeeee that it is a dirt magnet and really hard to clean though. My dream is that CPL makes a damned camera bag. I want the exact same bag, same design, just a side access pocket for a slip in slip out optional and customization camera cube. Also beef up the padding on the bottom, add a false bottom and change the material to something less dirt prone.

    Thanks for the review! I've had my cpl for about 3 months now and really love it! Like the long front pocket but yes it would be better if it had a pass through to the opposite side. It has a very slick /smooth fabric feel to it yet seems durable. It carries very well. I have turned it inside out to inspect every part and stitch. The materials and stitching are excellent! However... as a hiker who tears up backpacks like crazy, there's no way I would take this hiking without a warranty. As a daily carry this backpack excels.

    The lazy quick access pocket is a deal breaker for me. my North Face Surge has two front quick access pockets but at least those only go about inches high so you know you are only fitting in a phone or snacks. Otherwise you just stuff in and it all falls to the bottom causing poor weight distribution

I use the peak design as any daily carry and it works wonders! I'm leaning towards buying the new Errant! Hey I had an idea for a new series of your videos ! Hey Chase, technical question for you. When you say a 15" laptop will fit in a bag, is that exactly 15", or will it fit a 15.6" laptop? What size is your Macbook Pro, is it exactly 15"? Curious because I am a Windoze/Linux laptop user and most laptops are 15.6" here.

    GREAT bag! But WHY put the side handle and front pocket on the WRONG side? For me that actually is a bummer and a dealbreaker. I agree with C.R... Hope they make a "right hand" version.
    Vertical zipper is great on day packs (if it's on the opposite side). Slip the bag down your right shoulder and access the pocket with your left hand.

    You should do a review of the Bedouin Foundry Delireis. Same premise of absolute quality and thoughtful design.

    Finally! Great review as always.
    I want to like this bag. I’ve been looking at it for months. But it just isn’t there for me. I have a GR1 and this just reminds of a subtle “tactical” bag?? It’s like the non-jock nerdy little brother of the GR1. I think I subconsciously avoid it because it would be redundant to me because I have a GR1.

      Joshua Mueller I too looked at it for months. Finally pulled the trigger and the only time I’ve missed my GR1 is traveling and space too pack stuff. But then when I got to my destination I appreciated the smaller size to walk around with.

    Anyone tried bringing this as a "personal item" for carry on? I have one but haven't been travelling recently to see if it'll jam under a plane seat.
