  • I am getting more KMS...and no error codes...so all is good for now. Lets talk about full electric vs phev's in 2022. Then we'll get in the car and head for Mitsubishi headquarters North Bay to see if we can get some answers on the 2023. New software? New maintenance schedules for batteries? Somebody....let me know!!!

@@Excellent2009able It gets abused regularly towing & supplying electric to our off grid caravan ( V2H ) via the CHAdeMO plugged into a 6 kw solar charger .
But if using the PHEV stationary with the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) via the charge cycle button its still giving 23-37 miles EV range, this hot summer we were still seeing 30-33 miles EV range from basic 13 amp domestic charger 😎 but that was after full hot system reset when the standard 12 v ancillary battery eventually failed 🙄

Did swap out the antifreeze for Evans Waterless coolant ( fit & forget for life of vehicle Evans say) in both ICE and inverter cooling system few years ago, she runs noticeably cooler in charge mode ( V2H for off grid caravan use) with the waterless coolant .........
Brake pads & discs last 100K + miles ,don't use the brakes much , because always drive around on full regen (B5) enabled 👍
It's still on original clutch 🤞
(there's no clutch pedal, it's electronically controlled in certain hybrid modes when ICE is in EV Charge Mode etc ) .
I always use all terrain General Grabber AT3 tyres, there usually good for 60K + miles a set , heavy towing run them @ 3 bar (40 psi) all round, I found they give noticeably better traction off road , without any range penalty on road @ 40 psi 👍

Hi Gary, Thanks for the updated next stage of Mitsubshi technical information and yourself finding out more information..We are learning from you..Me personality I will not buy a full electric , only a Toyota hybrid next..There is too many costs so far in 2022 unless you have a bigger bank balance ( UK 🇬🇧 electric prices shot up ) As for you, you don't have the infrastructure .The technology might be great but it has to make its worthy not expensive for the majority of the public, I.e replacing a battery, guaranteed only for 8 years in uk ( No one will buy a 2nd hand battery), waiting minimum 6 months for a battery is definitely not in a good place in Canada ..Your daughters will have lots of pleasure for sure ..I look at cars 🚗 on lots of factors , Nice to hear about other neighbours cars 🚗 than your own, this have everything to do with the car, service, technical information the garage, running costs, reliability it has ..Unfortunately you have been let down despite you loving ❤️ your car..You are now getting some where 👍🖐📣 Let's hope you can film, strike more valuable info📚

Have really been enjoying your videos. I currently on a Mazda CX-5 which is 11 years old head of never had a single problem but it is time for a new vehicle. I went to the Mitsubishi dealership last week at test drove a 2023 Outlander. However watching your video being stuck in the snow and all of the problems you had with the electric battery I'm really surprised you would consider buying another one kind of seems like what they say about the definition of insanity. I hope your next purchase goes well. Cheers. 👍

Does the disconnecting lead acid battery while charging trick reset the cars battery stats the same as what Mitsubishi tech support did for you? Is this a viable solution to not returning the car to Mitsubishi every year?

If you do not have an order in by now gary you would be looking at a year wait for any phev as a minimum.
rav4 prime for example is a two to three year wait.

Almost 5 years of ownership, have you run the numbers on your actual gas savings yet? I would think you've hit that crossing point already where you got your premium back vs if you bought a full gas Outlander, no? Even if you could trade in at 50% of your buy price, seems tough to let go of that vehicle now that it's saving money vs putting another 30k into upgrading.
That 2023 looks fantastic. It's also got the biggest PHEV battery available vs the competition as you've said. I've test driven it and it's better on all counts.
I did one battery smoothing/dbcam at 24000km that jumped me from 78 to 90% and I didn't notice a range bump I don't think. At 55000km now, I'm back at 78. I'll have to check my logs but I'm. Not sure if I should try it again.
I've never done the other "reset" (where it thinks it's at 100%). If I could get up to 50km on EV with my current 2018 GT that would be world changing, as it's double my regular range at 78% SOH.

Gary: I almost guarantee they won’t know much about the new one. They will shake their head about a bunch of questions because they need to sell one. If they answer questions, Atleast it will give me hope. Personally Mitsubishi has a very small foot print in Canada and there’s not much effort to educate the dealership network.

I am in the process of buying my mother-in-law's 2020 outlander phev (not official yet) and right now it's averaging about 0 degrees C during the day and even at those temps the engine kicks on almost immediately when starting to drive, even at super slow speeds, often telling me "EV mode not available" and refusing to go into EV mode until about 5 minutes into my drive. Should I just steer clear of this car?? Really not impressed so far as I'm not touching the battery for most of my short commute, which is why I wanted an EV in the first place...

  • @juanhusingz

Your engine not kicking on is definitely because you adjusted you defrost/heating settings. If the blower is off and there's no climate control call, theres not need for the engine to run. You can also start in ACC, hit the EV button, then start and that'll keep things quiet as well.

Hey Gary, any update on your phev? Did you get battery replaced? What did you find about the 2023 outlander phev? Did you end up getting it? 2023 Outlander system any different? I have been researching on this car for 2023/24 ... and watched many of ur videos.

Ah i got excited and got the new 2023 phev in dec watching ur videos and some other videos last year. I hope the new model will work good in 4 yrs. So far i love it. I live in Winnipeg so it gets cold. The only time engine is on so far is if the cabin is cold and im using the heater or initial start on very cold days. I checked the maintenance manual no mention of battery maintenance just motor oil leaks. 574 km and not used 1/4th tank yet expecting zero gas used when temp is warmer. Range goes down abt 10 km to maintain cabin heat. The range calculation is wonky though sometimes it shows 70 km sometimes 80km sometime 67km on full charge. If u turn off vehicle and turn on, engine starts just to warm up. I usually tend to keep the car running in ev if its a short wait. Did you get any info from the dealers about 2023?

  • @MadMatty72

You should take note of and report on the max and min cell voltages when fully charged and empty at approx 100% battery capacity/range (after reset) and also at the 70% battery capacity/range. The cell voltages should tell the story about battery health. I'm particularly interested what min cell voltages are after full EV drive after a battery reset - I doubt very much that the car is relying on an AH value for range over monitoring of cell voltages, thats how BMS' work afterall.

    • @Darrenhd2
      @Darrenhd2 Год назад

I have the same PHEV as Gary, but. I do my own resets (but I properly put in the battery age since manufacturing as the Mitsubishi techs SHOULD do). I've done one DBCam and a couple cell smoothings on my vehicle. After a reset to 100% (40.00Ah), my cell voltage average (at 99.7% SOC) was 4.097V. At 28.7% SOC the average cell voltage was 3.701V. My experience with my local dealership is similar to Gary's. They are not really familiar with the procedures you can/should do on the PHEV and the staff changes frequently...they just don't know. Also, there is NO battery degredation warranty in North America, unlike in Europe. I have not heard of one single case of anyone in Canada getting a new battery out of Mitsubishi. I doubt this will change for the new 2023 model, although it does use a different battery chemistry (similar or same as the Nissan Leaf), which while better, is not the best. Also the author of PHEVWatchDog said he is not going to support the new 2023 PHEV, so if you buy that car you will be running blind, unless some other app is able to monitor the battery stats.

Hello Gary, I seen some of your videos lately. I'm in QC and just bought a used 2018 PHEV and getting at best 24 kWh/100km at best... 27 on longer avg, riding alone as efficient as I can, nothing in the car, only FM radio on and light heating (set to 20°C). I rode it one day while it was 8°C outside (parked outside), and next day from my heated garage to driving near 0°C temps, for driving to work at 25km away, 60km/h max, no winter tires. In your videos, how did you manage to get 12-18 kWh/100km? Are there any tips for me to understand this big gap, or you feel something is wrong with this used car? I know that it has had some quite regular maintenance done at a Mitsu dealer in the past years including battery. Thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts on this car.

In the last few months leading up to the fire I’ve noticed that battery only lasted 11 miles, as before when it was newer it would last 22.
