Thank you for sharing your experience with PHEV outlander. I have done a pre booking for outlander PHEV 2023 model and I am now thinking if I should now go ahead as I can clearly see the battery issue will result in taking a lot of my time in future. Good luck with your battery replacement. It may not be a bad idea to escalate this issue in twitter and tagging Mitsubishi canada . All the best

I still stand by the fact that the plug in in certain circumstances is the best economic choice you can make. If you drive more than 100kms/hour...or have long commutes....its not a great choice...in town...family moving money saving slower speed driving...100% hands down a great choice...also my car is almost 5 years old...I have never had any other issues with the vehicle....mind you the battery issue is a time consuming pain in the ass...and is enough to stop me from buying another one...

The 2023 PHEV is a completely different car with a bigger battery and considerably longer range. Tough to tell if it will have the same performance issues as the outgoing model.

    Hi Gary,
I have the same vehicle as you and am having the engine running below 10c. Dealer has been stonewalling on this issue, brushing me off with this is normal operation rhetoric. We all know that is BS. My wife has a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with 16kw battery and we have not spent a penny on it other than oil changes which I do myself. It has 80,000 + kms and we can still get between 60 & 70 kms on electric in the warmer weather. The only time the engine runs is after the battery is depleted, when you call for heat in below 0c temps or if you need extra accelaration.

I agree william...I have the test videos on this channel look under my phev playlist that show for the first 4 years my car did not have the engine start when in electric with forced ev...under -30c the engine would run once to keep the oil pan warm....the proof is here...on the channel...and now mine was doing the same thing last winter...frequent engine starts...and I was down to 23km max with four engine runs per trip....now...for the summer the engine has not been coming on...I am waiting to see what happens this winter...

I think the North American dealer networks are so unschooled on the PHEV, they just don't know what they're doing, and will blow you off with statements we all, as owners, know are not true. I'm getting the cold engine starts in EV mode as well, even at 44F, well above freezing. It's super annoying.

@@GaryReedUnfrequentedWorld You know despite the quirks I'm saving a ton on gas still. Mine was in for a scratch repair and I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee as a loaner. I spent at least $160 on gas, for a total of 380 km over a week. Just got the PHEV back and put in about $70. Guess-O-Meter says I should be able to get 427km and that's without any EV charge.

@@GaryReedUnfrequentedWorld I don't think it will be easy to get Mitsubishi to replace your battery if it shows the capacity well above 70%. That is their threshold for replacement, and from the large number of owners in the Facebook PHEV owners group who have dealt with the company, they will first do a DBCAM to try to get you back above 70%, and when you get there, no replacement.

I asked Mitsubishi Ireland about a reset , they said it is madness & detrimental to the battery telling the car “here’s a new battery” then treating the old battery (at say 75%) as if it was new & charging it pass its ability! It will wear it out far far quicker!! (Kinda like bending a spoon back and forth , the further u bend it / or higher you charge it , the weaker it gets.. they only recommend recalls & updates. a cell smoothie is ok they say but not often. It has minimal results anyways (unless you want a wallet cleanse)
    BYD make great batteries!
