I’ve been going to the river down there since the 70’s. 30-35 years ago, I was down there swimming and met a photographer from National Geographic who was doing a story on the American River Parkway. He explained to me how rare and unusual it was for a 20 mile stretch of urban River to be turned into one continuous parkway. At that time he said the ARP was absolutely unique in the USA. He made me aware of how lucky we are here in Sacramento to have this beautiful stretch of river. Anywhere else it would mostly be private property and million dollar homes. That’s what they’re trying to do now. If we let them take 40 acres, it’ll just be the beginning. Once that land is developed, we’ll never get it back. HELL NO TO ANY DEVELOPMENT along the ARP. It’s the jewel of Sacramento! This is one time when EVERYONE should speak up and tell their local representatives that they oppose selling off any of the ARP!
I’m all for development and more housing, but let’s refrain from building closer to the river and its habitat. The river and the riparian parkway, along both sides should be forever protected. It’s what makes this region special. Also clean up all the illegal “camping” on the river too!
