Iron Maiden songs tell stories. Their songs are like reading an Edgar Allen Poe story or a Twilight Zone episode...A mix of fantasy and reality...all in the name of ROCK 'N ROLL!
Maiden is an icon of the metal world. their work in such songs like Run To The Hills ..or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner are some of the greatest story telling in metal. they are worth a deeper dive down their rabbit hole
The song , written by the bass player (Steve Harris),, is about nightmares he had after watching the movie "The Omen II" -- and, yes, parents all around tried to claim Iron Maiden as 'devil worship' music -- They got a lot of pushback from parents, schools, churches, etc... But, have had an amazing career, spanning 40+ yrs -&- still a premier band to see live ! Touring well into their 60s 😮 Other amazing performances to react to : 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' LIVE - Hammersmith 1982 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' LIVE - Flight 666 Tour 'The Clansman' - LIVE Rock In Rio After those 3, you would most assuredly dive down a deep rabbit hole of pure joy & heavy metal perfection ! Enjoyed your reaction, and looking forward to seeing your future content. 'subbed' 👍
Yup, my parent's asked me if it was devil music because of the title... I said no, it's story telling... they believed me and my mom actually likes some of their stuff, the "softer ones"...lol
Iron Maiden is one of the best metal bands, all their songs tell stories and the playing is always amazing, very very gifted musicians. Bruce Dickinson definitely has one of the best voices in the genre, check out 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' if you want to hear him hold a long note, it lasts forever. Also, check out the live version if you're going to watch it, seeing him do it live is amazing.
Youre exactly right. I remember when this came out i was a kid but the religious community started going after rock and metal music calling it devil music and saying they worship the devil.
Iron Maiden is one of those bands that bring history, nightmares, imagination, poetry into their songs. Many of their songs are based on historical events. Up the Irons
I was 17 when this came out. It was HUGE. Paul Di'Anno was fired just about a year before, he was the vocalist on the first two albums. Bruce blew the roof off. Saw them in concert with Judas Priest for this album, 40 years later, still in my top 5 concerts ever. Maiden are the brain child of founder Steve Harris, bass player, the only original member left. 🤘
No joke, he flys the band plane and that is a boing 747. He was a pilot for a british company, that's the reason why he had short hair in other iron maiden videos.
I think they've had the most underrated guitarists in rock, to be honest. Particularly with Dave Murray on board, who often sounds to me like the blueprint for a lot of metal guitar in the 1980s.
Seen Maiden twice. First time was in a small club in their early days. Second time some years later at Hammersmith Odeon in London. Bloody fantastic! 👍🇬🇧
YES! The performance was fantastic and the crowd singing was insane. Iron Maiden is one of the top bands to see live. Dickinson's voice hasn't changed and is still one of the best vocalists of all time.
I'll never forget that I finally got to see them live. Probably in the late 90s. Maybe 10 rows back, Testament opened up. They were incredible. And of course they did this song. Great reaction hun
As a teen when that album came out, I can tell you it was like a rock thrown into a still pond! One Friday night - the local mall record store was decked out with posters, cut outs, and displays of the album and the devils on the cover, as part of the advertising package for the store! Caused a stir and grabbed attention. At the time they came out with this album and song, Biblical prophecy, 666, Mark of the Beast, and the Apocalypse was very common discussions including tons of end times books like 'When Your Money Fails', 'Hidden Dangers of The Rainbow' [The New Age Warning book] and the UPC code and 666. Add to that churches and preachers demonized rock music and playing rock songs backwards to hear secret satanic words was all the rage. In short - the marketing to produce this was brilliantly timed. To be fair to their detractors, the line of '666, the one for you and me' comes off as a recommendation, instead of it 'shouldn't be for you and me', so hence the strong reaction. But such were the times then. Shortly after their arrival on the rock scene, Christian rock and metal exploded on the scene, and then, approaching the close of the 80s, the big hair/long hair bands slowly faded with the decade.
Everyone over the age of 30 thought this was a Devil worship song when it came out. My grandparents gave me a wide berth when they found out I loved Iron Maiden! ha ha!
Glad we can appreciate music of various genres. I had been an Iron Maiden fan from their inception and they have always kept up this energy. Songfacts, the first belted out scream was out of frustration by the singer after the producer kept making him go over the first stanzas over and over again, he finally in anger unleashed a chilling scream. Also as you said the song was about a dream, but as written by the band's bassist and band-founder Steve Harris, inspired by a nightmare he had after watching the film Omen.
Im glad to hear you"listen further" im a long time Maiden fan. Most of their songs have to do with history, religion, literature, movies and other relms of pop culture. I literally passed a history test using the lyrics of one of thier songs. One of the best live bands ever.
I love iron Maiden and your reaction was so good. Im sure you are swamped with requests but you have got to check out Prince Purple Rain It is legendary.
when the album came out in the eighties (the album was also called the number of the beast) a lot of the bible belt denounced it and even burnt copies of the LP. Which helped sales and gave the album and band more exposure. On the following album, the drummer recorded a reverse track basically ranting at these "critics" (Using the allegedly reversing of records to hear a hidden message)
Damn I have not seen this official video in ages..... I mean I listened Maiden loads of times but did not seen this official video..... damn I fell old...
That's pretty much what did happen. Maiden was outright banned in Chilé because the Church thought they were for-real Satanists. They're not, but the perception was there. For further Maiden goodness, might I suggest Revelations, Aces High, Blood Brothers, and If Eternity Should Fail?
I was there, I was a huge Maiden follower and this song was hugely controversial. Just like you said, these people didn't follow any of the lyrics. Just hearing 666 scared them and we were all supposedly devil worshipers, lol.
Lots of people did indeed judge it just like you said without ever even hearing it. Glad you got it and even added your own spin. Love hearing others' interpretations. Subscribed for more Maiden! 👍😀
EDDIE!!!🤘🤘 BTW I wouldn’t listen to them cos I thought it WAS that! But later (as in 20 yrs lol) started listening and I love IRON MAIDEN! My 14 yr old started it. FEAR OF THE DARK is our favorite. The live one from Argentina
The werewolf is from The Return of the Vampire (1943) starring Bela Lugosi as The Vampire and Matt Willis as Andreas (the Werewolf) Nina Foch who will later play Charlton Heston's mom in the Cecil B deMille production of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956) plays Nikki. The guy with the skull head is from the serial THE CRIMSON GHOST (1946) archive.org/details/TheCrimsonGhost12Eps archive.org/details/PhantasmagoriaTheater-TheReturnOfTheVampire1944433
Their drummer, Nicko Mcbrain, who lives just a few miles from me , claims to be s born again Christian and attends a Pentecostal church close to his home in Boca Raton.
Good for you, you caught onto the dream context immediately. Most people who hear it for the first time just think it's some kind of devil-worshipping song and miss the dream aspect entirely. Very impressive - subbed.
Iron Maiden songs tell stories. Their songs are like reading an Edgar Allen Poe story or a Twilight Zone episode...A mix of fantasy and reality...all in the name of ROCK 'N ROLL!
"all in the name of ROCK 'N ROLL!" I heard that in Ann Wilson's(Heart) voice😍. LOL.
Truely said!
You nailed it, Steve Harris had a nightmare after watching the Omen 2, and wrote the song about his dream.
Hey thanks Bob dilshaw as a Fellow iron maiden fan, I thank you for that. I didn't know that. Sweet!
Christian people think Iron Maiden are satanist. A lot of their songs talk about stories and history.
I agree with the people who suggest "Hallowed Be Thy Name." Also, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." Up the Irons! 🤘
for new reactors, rime of the ancient mariner, studio version with lyrics...
@@mix6809 Yes. Listening to the masts creaking on a still sea in your headphones for the first time...⚓️
Number of the beast is better than hallowed be thy name
TOTALLY AGREED!!!
A low note
Some say a brown note
Long and brown and thick it be!
😌 Oh man I'm I'm a gonna go cancel myself now! 🤦😁
Maiden is an icon of the metal world. their work in such songs like Run To The Hills ..or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner are some of the greatest story telling in metal. they are worth a deeper dive down their rabbit hole
Empire of the clouds is another example of great story telling.

Other amazing performances to react to :
'Hallowed Be Thy Name'
LIVE - Hammersmith 1982
'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' LIVE - Flight 666 Tour
'The Clansman' - LIVE Rock In Rio
After those 3, you would most assuredly dive down a deep rabbit hole of pure joy & heavy metal perfection !
Enjoyed your reaction, and looking forward to seeing your future content.
'subbed' 👍
Yup, my parent's asked me if it was devil music because of the title... I said no, it's story telling... they believed me and my mom actually likes some of their stuff, the "softer ones"...lol
There were american christian groups that had bonfires burning Iron Maiden's records, ignoring the poisonous smoke that comes from burning records =P
Wish I could have a nightmare and write a song. Steve is so talented.
If you want to hear Bruce Dickinson holding a note for a long time you should checkout "Hallowed be thy name" from the same album.
The Live 82 version. \m/ Up The Irons
Rock in Rio 2001.
@TurboFritz2 You think that live 82' version is overrated? Granted I like all of your recs, Turbo, but that a great live track.
Iron Maiden " Run to the Hills" react.
It's gotta be done
Agreed!
The best Heavy Metal band on Earth !!!
I have to be some disagree with this, about that best thing, i think it isn't best and can't even say that way, it's too hard to say
Metal horror. Bruce Dickinson one of great metal voices. So many more great Maiden songs to react to
That is exactly what the song was about. Crazy Dream.
Finally maiden... we need more!!! Up the irons!!!!

Oh Man... it was such a good time !
May favorite band of all time! I've seen them 22 times in concert. Looooove them!
Iron Maiden is one of those bands that bring history, nightmares, imagination, poetry into their songs. Many of their songs are based on historical events. Up the Irons
Hallowed be thy name live is amazing. Bruce Dickinson is one of the best vocalists in Heavy Rock.
🤘
You are wrong Dave Murray and Adrian smith are also the original members who are still with the band
Bruce Dickinson also has a commercial pilots license and can fly a jumbo jet.
Also an olympian level fencer ^^
He is also a fluent English speaker and can chew meat by his own teeth. True ´uomo universale. Reneissance genius.
No joke, he flys the band plane and that is a boing 747. He was a pilot for a british company, that's the reason why he had short hair in other iron maiden videos.
Maiden is awesome, so many great songs to choose from! Hallowed be Thy Name is my favorite from them
I think they've had the most underrated guitarists in rock, to be honest. Particularly with Dave Murray on board, who often sounds to me like the blueprint for a lot of metal guitar in the 1980s.
to me growing up in the '80s metal scene, it was Dave Murray, Eddie VH or Randy Rhoads...
I've often said that Maiden may not have invented double lead guitars, but they definitely perfected it with Murray and Smith!
I worked in reheasal studio that was owned by a friend of the guitarists from their days in Urchin he always said Ade was the better of the 2
They're not underrated, they're very much recognized as great guitarrists
Underrated by who though? Certainly not the fans. So who else matters? The media?? Don't make me laugh.
Seen Maiden twice. First time was in a small club in their early days. Second time some years later at Hammersmith Odeon in London. Bloody fantastic! 👍🇬🇧
Hallowed be thy name live is awesome do live with them it's incredible!
"Heavy metal" is a tribute to IRON MAIDEN.
Nice
Young lady I see u react to maiden I hit the smash button up the irons... maiden absolutely the best live band on earth...
Iron Maiden live in Rio do they're song, "Fear of the Dark"..
YES! The performance was fantastic and the crowd singing was insane. Iron Maiden is one of the top bands to see live. Dickinson's voice hasn't changed and is still one of the best vocalists of all time.
@@wandawilson5811 But that is easy, southern americans are the BEST rock/metal crowed you ever have seen But yes, superb performance
Run to the hills, the trooper, 2 minutes to midnight, powerslave
I'll never forget that I finally got to see them live. Probably in the late 90s. Maybe 10 rows back, Testament opened up. They were incredible. And of course they did this song. Great reaction hun

My first Iron Maiden song was Wasted Years back in 80s when I was in 5th grade. I was hooked when I heard that song.
icons, youd be hard pressed finding better musicians in any one band, vocals too
Everyone over the age of 30 thought this was a Devil worship song when it came out. My grandparents gave me a wide berth when they found out I loved Iron Maiden! ha ha!
Always like watching people's reactions to Bruce's phenomenal voice!
Hallowed be the name!
Up the Irons !!!!!
Bruce Dickinson the human air raid siren!
Glad we can appreciate music of various genres. I had been an Iron Maiden fan from their inception and they have always kept up this energy. Talk about greed and sin, Iron Maiden "Holy Smoke" calls out the televangelists that got busted
yup. on repeater for this young lady!
These guys haven’t slowed down at all. Check out they’re recent live stuff.
The scream in the beginning was a frustration scream from Bruce after being told over and over and over again by the record producer to "do it again"
The Live version of "Fear of the Dark" from Rock in Rio is a must see when reacting to Iron Maiden. Epic performance and awesome song :)
My favorite song, from my favorite album from them.
Please *Fear of the Dark* (live in Río)
*Run to the Hills*
*hallowed be thy name*
Im glad to hear you"listen further" im a long time Maiden fan. Most of their songs have to do with history, religion, literature, movies and other relms of pop culture. I literally passed a history test using the lyrics of one of thier songs. One of the best live bands ever.
Please react to Hallowed be thy name (live) by Iron Maiden 👍🏼
‘Hallowed be thy name’ from the same album would have been a better introduction to Maiden
I like to think that we can get a great history lesson just by listening to Iron Maiden ! Keep them coming
the video used, iirc,is from 'The Beast over Hammersmith' concert (i was there) in 1982.The tour was the '82 world tour ' Beast On the Road'
Legend has it that Bruce won't sing all three 6's live. He will either do the first one or the first two and let the audience finish it.
Couple of good songs with Iron Maiden are Run to the hills and The Trooper.
Thats METAL Mama...
Hello Jayy, Reaction to Iron maiden - Afraid to shoot strangers (official video), please.
Amazing song long live maiden
Hallowed be thy name
I love iron Maiden and your reaction was so good. Im sure you are swamped with requests but you have got to check out Prince Purple Rain It is legendary.
On a following album "Piece of Mind" they did a song called "Revelations" which was a response to the critics of "Number of the Beast".
Girrrrrrrlllll............ 1984, Long Beach arena.......Peaking on mushrooms.........Out comes Eddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
These are one uk best heavy band going I see these 14 time live
You are very right, they hear the numbers and assume that the music is evil wothout analyzing the context, loved your video.
I glad young one are love good music
WHAT A VOICE.
when the album came out in the eighties (the album was also called the number of the beast) a lot of the bible belt denounced it and even burnt copies of the LP. Which helped sales and gave the album and band more exposure.
On the following album, the drummer recorded a reverse track basically ranting at these "critics" (Using the allegedly reversing of records to hear a hidden message)
Finally an intelligent reaction to this classic song.
Damn I have not seen this official video in ages..... I mean I listened Maiden loads of times but did not seen this official video..... damn I fell old...
Iron Maiden? Excellent!
Oh wow I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS !
Lead singer is a commercial pilot, he Flys their 747 when on tour. Bassist is one of the best ever... great drum lick

I took it as just a song with the video using clips from old pics like I was a teenage to werewolf. Just a story
Fear of the dark or dance of the death. From iron maiden please.
I suggest The Prisoner, it's one of their more underrated songs, but a great tune with killer drums.
"Recon the number of the beas." Recon means solve. 666 is. Code for the number of the name of king Nero.
The spoken word part at the beginning is the version of Revelations in the bible as it was interpeted in the book the Omen
Good for you, you caught onto the dream context immediately. Most people who hear it for the first time just think it's some kind of devil-worshipping song and miss the dream aspect entirely. Very impressive - subbed.
Went to the concert. Richfield, Ohio
haha.. i love her
