"Eddie" started off as a just a head an unknown patron painted on the wall because that's the sort of thing one did in dingy rock clubs back in the day. If you say "head" with a particular English accent, it sounds like "Ed". "Ed" is short for "Eddie", so "Ed the 'ead (or Ed the head)". The band adopted it as their mascot, and gave him more of a "typical rocker" body of the day - skinny/malnourished, bad hair, blank stare, hollow eyes, bad teeth, etc. All the hallmarks of the late 70s London Punk Rock scene. The character has been on the cover of every album, presented in a theme that was indicative of the album title. The band was a target of the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s, because for some reason people didn't actually read lyrics or put any effort into interpreting album cover imagery, they just heard "666" and grabbed their pitchforks and torches.
That's actually not true. Watch the documentary...the artist who came up with Eddie is in it and stated very clearly, he was inspired by a face painted on the side of a tank.

For their last world tour in 2019 they chartered a Boeing 747 for lead singer Bruce Dickinson to fly, painted with logo's from the "Book of Souls" tour. The plane was called "Ed Force One". There's a cool photo on line of Ed Force One parked alongside Air Force One. Iron Maiden are best appreciated live, for a band in their late 60s, they still put on one hell of a show.

"The Number of the Beast" was the first Iron Maiden, and the first heavy metal, video I ever saw. I must have been around 2 or 13. My mom was in the room when I was watching and she was just horrified! 😀 I thought "Oooh, there's potential here!" I have been a head banger ever since. I'm now 57.
Interesting choice. There are two things that Maiden does exceptionally well. First is storytelling. Second is theatrics. Lots of songs based on history and poetry. You should check out this performance of "Hallowed be thy Name" from 82'. A lot of people start with this one. ruclips.net/video/7vP2hFFV57E/видео.html
I will tell you a little bit about this song. When Steve Harris was watching The Omen part 2. This song came to him in a dream. Eddie is a stage hand. He is an actual part of the show.
Hallowed Be Thy Name is a fantastic Maiden song to react to 🤗 The more recent live Maiden performances - show just how cool and strong Iron Maiden are even today 💛
Being a long time fan of the Irons its nice to see more people coming to the fold. Recently got back from seeing them live on their FuturePast tour and dare i say they are even better. I would second the comments made to watch a live performance. there is Hallowed be thy name, Fear of the Dark or Rime of the Ancient Mariner for a few to start with. From their most recent album I would say my 2 favourite tracks would be Death of the Celts and Writing on the Wall.
That stage is not random at all. "Steady Eddie Iron Maiden" their mascot is a 14' tall robot they bring out on stage. In this case to destroy the devil. This tour was probably The Beast On The Run tour. Probably 1982. I first saw them in 1984, Toronto. World Slavery tour. If you want to do them again? Check out Hallowed Be Thy Name or The Trooper.
Hey guys I am a Mexican-American from San Antonio Texas iron maiden has been my favorite band since I was about 14 I am now 54 years old I've seen them in concert 8 or 9 times God bless good luck with everything
Mmmm, always do their studio version. Great live band for energy but not always quality on the vocals and tempo is often sped up. Their studio is the way to hear them first.
I love this band I have been listening to them since 1980,s they also have there own 747 Air bus 400 bruce dickerson is the pilot and owner the plane is called ED-Force One I have seen them 8 times I was never disappointed with any of there concerts I will always be an IRON Maiden fan and I'm 62 years old Rock at it's best
I have been into Iron Maiden since 1979 and have seen them live in multiple countries and multiple times on every tour since the Piece of Mind tour 1983. I love seeing people react to Maiden from 40 years ago and then seeing there reaction to there latest stuff. There is so many songs you two should check out and the live videos from shows will blow your mind. If you really interested, look up the history of Eddie and what the character has done over time. My suggestions "Hallowed be thy name" "The Trooper" "Aces High" "Wasted Years" "Fear of the Dark" "Rime of the Acient Mariner" "The Clansman" I could go on and on but check out live concerts with these how they get the entire crowd involved and the energy not to mention the stoies and history of what all there songs relate to. Enjoy and Up The Irons!
8:08 - "they could have made this much more sinister" - but we had Slayer for that. A Slayer show could make you feel like the Devil actually WAS in the room....LOL.
The entire band is super young in this video- I have rocking with them since I was 16 yrs old- I'm almost 50 and they still are touring.... One of the most original metal bands of it's time and in my opinion they still are the best.... much love guys
Anything from their Powerslave album is a must. One of the greatest, if not greatest metal bands ever. Lyrically and musically amazing. Learned more about history from Maiden than I did in any history class in school. Take a look at Queensrÿche and Buckethead.
The 'character' is named Eddie Hunter. Back in the 80's his name was just Eddie, but somewhere along the line they completely named it after me lol very cool. One of the joys of loving this band back in the day was the awesome album art and reading the lyrics when the new albums would come out. They were a complete band.
I saw them with twisted sister "Power slave" I believe. What an incredible voice and some great story telling lyrics. 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is one of the best!
Derek Riggs did all the artwork for the Iron Maiden record sleeves. He created Eddie the zombie! I own the vinyl of their debut single Running Free, it has been signed on the record sleeve by.. Derek Riggs (artist) Dennis Stratton (guitarist) Doug Sampson (drummer). REAL RARE VINYL! C 09 - 08 - 23
Iron Maiden, formed in 1975 and still touring and selling out everywhere they go. Absolutely huge in South America and Europe. Alot of their music is historically based. The character of Eddie started out as a thing that hung over the drummer and during the show would ooze blood out of his mouth. Back then he was known as Eddie The Head. Then he evolved into what he is now. The band purchased their own big private jet and it is called Edd Force One. Up until he turned 65, lead singer Bruce Dickinson was the pilot of said jet. Dive deeper into their catalog and you will understand why I say "Iron Maiden, educating you and kicking your ass for 48 years". 9:07
The Wolfman was in there, too. Plus there was a giant spider. They threw in all kinds of monsters. But you are probably right about not getting the proper copyright clearances- but it was 1982
Well if you wanna know more about Eddie, there isn't a lot more to know Eddie is just the face and appears on every release cover, except for the Wasting Love single and they have giant robot versions of Eddie that they use in live shows In regards to other popular songs, I'd recommend: The Trooper Fear Of The Dark Run To The Hills 2 Minutes To Midnight Aces High In regards to not so popular, but still great af songs I'd recommend: The Prisoner Killers Prowler El Dorado Afraid To Shoot Strangers Fortunes Of War Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter Fates Warning Deja Vu Die With Your Boots On Dream Of Mirrors Dance Of Death Paschendale The Longest Day The Talisman Lord Of Light Brave New World Mother Of Mercy Speed Of Light Hell On EarthCaught Somewhere In Time The Evil That Men Do Futureal Virus Children Of The Damned For The Greater Good Of God Death Or Glory When The Wild Wind Blows Powerslave Sign Of The Cross
Watching these guys slowly being taken over by the beat and the melody as their heads start to bang naturally and subconsiously....is so damn cute! Welcome to the tribe, ny friends! Having a bad day? Put this music on for the ride home and you will instantly feel better!
For 41 years i have always thought that was Vincent Price in the prologue. Turns out it was English actor Barry Clayton. They tried to get Vincent Price, but his fee was too high for them. (25k pounds)--- about $32k)
Here is your info dump I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. Probably the biggest heavy metal band from Britain, along with Judas Priest. Eddie first appears as a shadow-faced figure on Iron Maiden’s “Running Free” single and was placed into proper view for the first time by visual artist Derek Riggs, who fashioned Eddie as a punk-edged rocker on the band’s 1980 self-titled debut. At the band’s request, Riggs added more hair to the original piece of art to fit more in line with Maiden’s style and image. Riggs originally conceived the drawing for use for a punk album, inspired by an image of a Japanese soldier's head on U.S. tank. Iron Maiden current are: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 64 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 67 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 66 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 71 years), 1982 - present The next songs I'd recommend, in no particular order, when you do Iron Maiden again, are: Hallowed Be Thy Name - Beast over Hammersmith version Phantom of the Opera Live at the Rainbow Where Eagles Dare (Live At Ullevi, Sweden) The Longest Day (about D-Day) Revelations (lyric video) The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001) Dance Of Death - En Vivo! as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs others will recommend, but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend. One reactor on RUclips I helped through his "Maiden Voyage" as we called it, he ended up doing all the songs on their 17 studio albums and most of their cover songs. Now his favorite band. Highlight of songs and what they are about that I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden album------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers album------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast album ------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) From Piece of Mind album ------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave album ------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time album------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great From 7th Son of a 7th Son album (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark album------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) From Brave New World album------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death album------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (About being born)
They're on tour at the moment and I'm here to tell they're as good as ever, maybe even better! You could forgive them after the career they've had for maybe taking a backward step but there's not a bit of it, the power and energy in the music is incredible and the show they put on is just phenomenal!! It's always great at every show to see all ages from pensioners down to little pre-teen kids still rocking out to the greatest band there's ever been, IMHO. Up The Irons!!
quality reaction for sure! This is a great song by one of the best metal bands of all time. Die with your boots on and the rhyme of the ancient mariner are also excellent. I would say though, that what they're singing about is no joke, and throwing around the number of the devil and singing about him is very much a form of worship. Whether these guys actually think they are doing the devil's work or not it's definitely not advisable.
Eddie started out as this featureless face that they'd hang behind the drums with their logo. I think it would ooze blood from its mouth too. At first he was called "the head" but with their cockney accents, he became "the 'ead" which led to "Eddie the 'ead" and finally settled on "Eddie". He's been a staple ever since.
Grew up in the eighties and had poster for this album in our basement where my brother had his drum kit, a pool table and the Atari 2600 wired into a 15" CRT. Best decade ever!
A few trivia tid bits for you: 1.The Female dancer was Billy Idol's Girlfriend at the time. 2. This video came out in 1982 in the very early days of music videos so making them had not become an 'art' yet but for 1982 and to the kids of that day watching MTV it was all new and scary. MTV got some complaints on this video for being too scary. 3. Do Iron Maiden's-Wasted Years next it came out in 1986 when music videos were more of a thing and the band had become a household name at that point. You will see a major difference in video quality. And Eddie Variations :D
Newbie’s reacting to songs I have listened to all my life crack me up. I’m 52 years old and my son and I are going to see Dying Fetus in November. Metal4life.
Always one of my favorite bands. There's a all female Japanese metal band out there right now called Lovebites who are highly influenced by Iron Maiden. Maybe check them out sometime.
Eddie is just Eddie, Iron Maiden are incredibly talented, Bruce Dickinson(the lead singer) is a pilot and used to fly their Boeing 747 to their concerts, since ur question was about Eddie, fun fact: the airplane was called "'Ed Force One'"
The character of "Eddie" was based on a painting found on the nose of an English or American bomber from WWII. The artist that has been doing their album covers since the beginning, altered it slightly for the theme of each album released.
One of their best tours was the "Live After Death" tour , the use of Eddie the 'ead Iron Maidens mascot was something else. This tour was only 4 years after number of beast tour, but their stage set up went from a very basic one to "Spectacular" in those few year's and still is. I believe they spend about a million pounds on the stage set up nowadays. Bruce the singer flies the band and equipment in their 747 jumbo jet, yep it's not basic anymore 😂
When maiden started out they had a backdrop of a face at their gigs. It was named "eddie the head" after an old joke: " eddie was born with just a head...nothing else. He spent his life on his parents shelf above the fireplace. On his 18th birthday...his parents wanted to give him something special...so they saved and saved to take him abroad for the first time. On his birthday, his parents teased him about his present..." youll love it"...they said "its unique" they teased...."oh great" said eddie "not another bloody hat!" I didnt say it was good...lol Anyway the name stuck...and when Derek Riggs (the artist behind the first few iron maiden album sleeves) incorporated "the face" into his artwork...the fans called him Eddie.
I listen to iron maiden when they had the made in Japan album before iron maiden and killers and I learned how to draw Eddie the rotting corpse their mascot
Also the Godzilla thing is most likely a reference to a passage in Revelation about a dragon coming out of the sea. Godzilla fits that verse very well. Any fundie back then who watched this video would make the connection right away.
From what I understand, Edward T. Harris, aka Eddie the Head, was a cover painting from their first album, a tribute to bassist Steve Harris' late brother.
Well, a prototype version of the character was around as early as 1976, designed by their then roadie Dave Lights. The version in the first album cover, that became famous, was a slight reworking of a previous painting by artist Derek Riggs, who was to do all their artwork until 1991. By then, he'd had enough.
Also, the song is from a dream the bass player Steve Harris had after watching Omen2. The character in the song is attributed to the Character in the poem Tam 'o Shanter. Which is about a man losing his mind and becoming schizophrenic.
Love Iron Maiden and this song! Their logo is called “Eddie” because a good deal of the time when you see him “ he’s just an ‘ead” ( say it in an English accent to figure it out)
Eddie was named because the band originally called it the head and the band is British so with there ascents it sounded like the edd so they named it Eddie
guys in the 80's in Greece their T-shirts were in such demand that they couldn't get the orignal thing so local companies made them in Greece. Thankfully the laws on legal rights were a lot more fluid?!?!?!?!.
Still going strong after 40 some years, on tour now in fact, great live band, and he nailed it, the album cover and song, it's like a horror movie set to heavy music, bands had to be a bit more extreme than bands before to get notoriety and publicity because no publicity is bad publicity, it's just marketing 101 and it worked, to have this album in '82 was like you were in the cool, scary kids crowd haha. I was thinking about The Beatles original album cover for Yesterday and Today, was pretty controversial for its time so it got pulled from record store shelves and the kids heard about the hub-bub and it gave them more notoriety.
Bruce never sings 666 while playing live ..not since there manager had an incident with paying a car bill while they recorded sessions on the album... the bill was £666 ...true story 😊
Wow, you've never heard that song before and you've heard Iron Maiden??? This is probably their most recognizable song. I can't blame you though if you grew up outside of the US. I was pretty young when this song came out, but I heard it through my older brother (5 years older). He was born in 1965 and was a wild child. Starting in his early teens he went to all of the great rock band concerts. He bought all of the concert shirts and later on in life he put them up on ebay. He made SO MUCH MONEY from those shirts. He had a lot of Japanese buyers paying $200 or more for well-worn 70s and 80s concert shirts. Oh well, keep up the great work and I'll keep watching.
Rest in peace Clive Burr, this son is about a man who was dreaming a premonition like dream a nightmare they are and never have been DEVIL WORSHIPPERS, TRUST ME I KNOW IM GEN X ALWAYS BEEN A METAL MUSIC FAN , I WAS BORN IN 76 SO METAL MUSIC WASN'T ABOUT DEVIL WORSHIP IT AND STILL IS ABOUT GREAT MUSIC AND REBELLIOUS ATTITUDE AND SOMETIMES BEHAVIOR. BUT METAL MUSIC AND THE BANDS THAT PLAY IT HAVE A VERY SPECIAL CONNECTION ESPECIALLY DURING LIVE SHOWS THEY YOU JUST HAVE TO EXPERIENCE SOME LIVE CONCERTS BUT WE LOVE OUR BANDS
You guys are not ready for the Iron Maiden rabbit hole! It’s deep and if you’re not careful it’s hard to get out. Please follow the rabbit and see what you’ll find! Good luck 🤘😎
It’s particularly hard because you won’t want to get out. I don’t think anyone could drag me (and it would be kicking and screaming and every other kind of resistance the whole way) out of those wondrous catacombs.
What should we react to next from Iron Maiden?

Their live shows are legendary!! I've seen them 30+ since 1983 until just their last tour. The fan base is one huge happy family :)
in 1982, this song started me on my fandom of Iron Maiden! Every concert I have been to since 1984 was an Iron Maiden show.
Iron Maiden was and still is at a whole nother level. Absolutely brutal!!
I'm now 57.

"Revelations" from Piece of Mind in '83 was always my favorite...worth a listen!
Reactor: Wow, they are Jamming!!
Dave Murray: Hold my beer!!
Adrian Smith: No, Hold MY beer
Steve Harris: OI you twerps, gimmie back MY beer!!
FOTD and Mariner are good suggestions.
@@therealcyber5 Hell on Earth is up there also in my opinion...
Absolutely!! If anything, even better! What a show!!
Should always do iron maiden live, their concerts are famous. For example do Run to the Hills from Rock in Rio concert. 🙂
Mmmm, always do their studio version. Great live band for energy but not always quality on the vocals and tempo is often sped up. Their studio is the way to hear them first.
@@troywilkinson160 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Would always recommend studio version to newbies. Live versions are for those who know their repertoire
@@willtill6260 Complete bullshit mate 🤣🤣🤣
Bro was there, brat concer in my lige💪🇭🇷
A Slayer show could make you feel like the Devil actually WAS in the room....LOL.
im a british Maiden fan since was a young un now 65 they still rock my house seen them live countless times still the best band on the planet
Ryche is a great suggestion - I never got into Buckethead.
I love how You left sounded the whole song & finally You did the analysis 🎉🎉🎉 You,re AWESOME
The 'character' is named Eddie Hunter. Back in the 80's his name was just Eddie, but somewhere along the line they completely named it after me lol very cool. One of the joys of loving this band back in the day was the awesome album art and reading the lyrics when the new albums would come out. They were a complete band.
As for what to do next!! Guys Take your pick! Run to the Hills is also awesome. Hallowed be thy Name LIVE
Classic for sure! You guys should also check out Maiden's "The Red and the Black (Live)" Some incredible solos in that one!
I grow up listening to heavy metal and still listening today age 64 this is a group I see live 11 or 12 time
I saw them with twisted sister "Power slave" I believe.
Derek Riggs (artist)
Dennis Stratton (guitarist)
Doug Sampson (drummer).
REAL RARE VINYL!

But you are probably right about not getting the proper copyright clearances- but it was 1982
Well if you wanna know more about Eddie, there isn't a lot more to know
Eddie is just the face and appears on every release cover, except for the Wasting Love single and they have giant robot versions of Eddie that they use in live shows
In regards to other popular songs, I'd recommend:
The Trooper
Fear Of The Dark
Run To The Hills

For 41 years i have always thought that was Vincent Price in the prologue. Turns out it was English actor Barry Clayton. They tried to get Vincent Price, but his fee was too high for them. (25k pounds)--- about $32k)

I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15.
Riggs originally conceived the drawing for use for a punk album, inspired by an image of a Japanese soldier's head on U.S. tank.
Iron Maiden current are:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 64 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer
Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 67 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left
Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 66 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present
Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present

Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 71 years), 1982 - present
The next songs I'd recommend, in no particular order, when you do Iron Maiden again, are:
Hallowed Be Thy Name - Beast over Hammersmith version
Phantom of the Opera Live at the Rainbow
Where Eagles Dare (Live At Ullevi, Sweden)
The Longest Day (about D-Day)
Revelations (lyric video)
The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001)
Dance Of Death - En Vivo!
as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs others will recommend, but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend. One reactor on RUclips I helped through his "Maiden Voyage" as we called it, he ended up doing all the songs on their 17 studio albums and most of their cover songs. Now his favorite band.
Highlight of songs and what they are about that I'd recommend are:
From Iron Maiden album------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
From Killers album------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder)
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast album ------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through)
From Piece of Mind album ------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
From Powerslave album ------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World

Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
From Somewhere in Time album-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son album (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
From Fear of the Dark album------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
From Brave New World album------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
From Dance of Death album------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (About being born)
Now that is one wicked awesome info dump! Thx!
Their drummer lost his edge. He fell off due to age, I’d assume
The guy dressed as the devil is their current drummer Nicko McBrain.
quality reaction for sure!
A few trivia tid bits for you:
1.The Female dancer was Billy Idol's Girlfriend at the time.
Eddie isn't a monster, Eddie is a Mummy that came back to life through the book of life. Every album has story connected to Eddie.
Newbie’s reacting to songs I have listened to all my life crack me up. I’m 52 years old and my son and I are going to see Dying Fetus in November. Metal4life.
My first album back when i was 13 Xmas 1983, older brother got For those about to rock. Man did they get thrashed
Always one of my favorite bands. There's a all female Japanese metal band out there right now called Lovebites who are highly influenced by Iron Maiden. Maybe check them out sometime.
They are heavy metal not just rock but one of my fav bands even seen them once with Bruce
It was named "eddie the head" after an old joke:
" eddie was born with just a head...nothing else. He spent his life on his parents shelf above the fireplace. On his 18th birthday...his parents wanted to give him something special...so they saved and saved to take him abroad for the first time. On his birthday, his parents teased him about his present..." youll love it"...they said "its unique" they teased...."oh great" said eddie "not another bloody hat!"
I didnt say it was good...lol
Anyway the name stuck...and when Derek Riggs (the artist behind the first few iron maiden album sleeves) incorporated "the face" into his artwork...the fans called him Eddie.
Im 58, its hysterical that in 1982 they wete bad for kids😂 considering the world today. They are awesome.
I used to collect all the early iron maiden posters, i wish i still had them, some of them would be worth a small fortune now.
Bruce Dickinson (the singer) is also a qualified airline pilot, an author and a fencing champion.
It started out as a head that was above the drummer that spit blood on him, the named it "Eddie the 'ead" (head).
That is Vincent Price doing the into. Vincent was a famous horror movie actor during the black/white movie era.
The only BAND that deserves a spot up there with BLACK SABBATH...DEEP PURPLE
I listen to iron maiden when they had the made in Japan album before iron maiden and killers and I learned how to draw Eddie the rotting corpse their mascot
Lead singer is also a licensed pilot for British Airways, they own their own plane with Eddie on the tail
This is something you maybe can't imagine. This band is much more than great or even fantastic, They are fenomenon. Up the irons!
My fave song from them! They are so damn good here
Also the Godzilla thing is most likely a reference to a passage in Revelation about a dragon coming out of the sea. Godzilla fits that verse very well. Any fundie back then who watched this video would make the connection right away.
Watch toward the middle of the screen for godzilla don’t join much bands but when he does he torches everything for Iron Maiden
Great reaction guys for sure you have to do hallowed be thy name live in 84
iron maiden is a quissessential Metal band off all time.
the bassist wrote this song , after having a bad dream from watching "The Omen".
I imagine Steve Harris jolting awake from a terrifying nightmare, and immediately thinking “Well, if that’s not worth a song, I don’t know what is.”
Fun fact...The bands jet is called Airforce Ed, flown by lead singer Bruce Dickinson.
It's actually called Ed Force 1
Iron Maiden's best song, imo, was and always will be: Run To The Hills. You should check that one out.
All the best from Scotland, metal for life!
You 2 are so entertaining. Thank you for your effort.
Aces High is great too. Watch the Babysaster cover, great vocalist guest.
Bruce never sings 666 while playing live ..not since there manager had an incident with paying a car bill while they recorded sessions on the album... the bill was £666 ...true story 😊
wrong he does it in recent years , he sings 666
Maiden still performs worldwide 🎉😊
1983 acid trip preist/ maiden pittsburgh...when Eddie came out it was mind blowing i thought he was real.
If you didn't see them live in the 80's & 90's.. You missed out. The other bands they played with were amazing!
Im am 54, my first Maiden gig was July 1982
Their first Album in the US to feature lead singer Bruce Dickinson
You should always watch live performances of IM. The quality is still there and the energy is X10 over produced videos.
Iron Maiden are still making music and do live shows they started 1975.
Imagine growing up with this!!!🔥🔥🔥
aces high, phantom of the opera , and wasted years are my favourite
I don’t think anyone could drag me (and it would be kicking and screaming and every other kind of resistance the whole way) out of those wondrous catacombs.
got in 1982 on tape, short life 😁👍
