RIP Mr. Romita. You were always one of my favorites. You brought a lot of joy to millions of kids (and grown up kids). I hope everyone takes some time to seek out his work. Condolences to the Romitas.
I met john Romita and Stan Lee in 1992...at the Capital City Sales Conference when i first opened my comic book store, right around the time of this video.....I've become BEST FRIENDS with John Romita since then and i'm truly blessed to call John Romita Sr one of my dearest friends on Earth!!! he is 86 years young and going strong!
That's Amazing! I've never gotten the chance to meet Romita Sr. but it's one of those thing that I wish were possible. It's a shame that he doesn't do conventions anymore-- but it's completely understandable. I got to meet Stan and Romita Jr. though-- good times!
@@deltagraph I feel the same way man! I need to see him! His stuff is what makes me want to be a comic artist. He's such a cool/nice guy too. Could listen to him for hours!

Watching and hearing the joy of these three men, and their mixed in insightful comments about excellence in their craft, explains a lot about all the joy and excitement Marvel Comics gave the world
John Romita, Sr. has always been my all-time favorite Spider-Man artist. I couldn't get enough of Spidey comics when I first started reading them in the late seventies, right around the time that Gwen Stacy died. I was in second grade when I read my first Spider-Man comic. I wish I still had it. I don't remember the issue #, but it involved Peter and J. Jonah Jameson being manacled together by the arms, to a bomb. That issue still brings a smile to my face when I think about it. Now that the Marvel Civil War trailer 2 has been released, I am thrilled to see the intense salute to John Romita, Sr. in Spider-Man's costume.
He's always joked about it, he has grabbed credit that wasn't his, but Stan also has praised the artists he's worked with. He gives Jack King Kirby all credit for the Silver Surfer.. He tells of seeing the Silver Surfer with Galactus and asking Kirby "who's the guy on the board?" If you wanna see someone taking ALL the credit, check out Bob Kane.
@@CVargas202Good chance Bill Finger would've never gotten credit if Kane himself didn't go on record and said Finger did at least half the work near the end of his life. Better late than never I suppose.
Deadline style..😅 Jr is still saying that to this day. 👍🏻💯 These 2 are great artist. Rest in peace John Sr. 🙏🏻 He was awesome. Rest in peace Stan. Another awesome bloke. You can tell Stan loves this 2 vs his interview with Rob, Todd on this.
JRJR: 'I want to be able to believe it myself...". Exactly. There's detail for its own sake and then there's detail that is for the sake of storytelling and establishing the setting. JRJR is one of my all-time favorites. Very, very rare that he does a less than stellar job regardless of the comic.
I consider these great artists to be on par with any of the more celebrated 'artists' you would see in major galleries, as my gf said while watching Romita Snr draw MJ , ' He didn't even need a model to work from'. Genius in my book.
24:00 I think John Romita SR drew Spiderman better than anyone. When I think Soidey I think of his stuff: hot MJ, College era muscular Spiderman, strong colourful panels and just brilliant action

What a great video. John Romita Sr. is my all time favorite comic book artist, and John Jr. is another artist that I really like a lot. The two of them make a great team, too!
Brilliant stuff. That Veronica Lake drawing was phenomenal! Veronica Lake was the first ever comic to have the comic code authority seal of approval on as well!
Stan Lee talking about people in the movie business being interested in comics.. Now look at how it is after how many Spider-man. Very interesting to see how comics have evolved and to see the original "comic book greats" doing their thing
I believe JRJR is the best! Met him once at a comic shop on Melrose in LA and he was fantastic guy! He is more talented than the press gives him credit for.
Ah, John Romita. Yes! When I think of Spider-Man, I picture John Romita's artwork. I'm reading through the Masterworks series now and when it transitioned over to Romita from Ditka, I was like, "Oh yes, there it is!" The transition is interesting because it was only after Romita took over that the storylines became more interesting and there was more going on in Parker's life with Gwen, Harry and company. Not as much before that so I definitely see Romita's influence and what he brought with him to the series when he took over.
What a joy to watch!!!!😀😀😀😀😃😃😄😄 Thank you for putting this up. I recently read the Comic Creators interview/overview of J.R Snr & it brought the same smile to my face. What a lovely man! Steve Ditko was probably the worst comic artist of all time. He ruined Spider-Man. Romita saved Spidey.
