hahaha. Many thanks for sticking around to watch my humble video. Gibson use to put the full size Grovers on the SG modern but they realized that the smaller Grovers would reduce the neck dive issue by a large amount. I use Guitar straps from the Lakota Tribe (out in Montana?) They use Buffalo hide to make their straps so the backing on the straps is pretty 'roughed' so there is a high friction ratio that keeps things in place. Unless you like to wear polyester. hahaha. >>>> lakotaleathers.com/products/guitar/ Everyone likes something different. Back in the old days I used that seat belt stuff for straps. Later on I got into the leather, once I could afford it. 🌞 By all means, check out a Gibson SG. They are as much fun as you can have in the world of sonics! be safe and rock on my friend! peace.
Sarah, I have not seen you before. And I've got to tell you I've been playing guitar a long time and you just made another old man feel good. Your collection looks bigger than mine. But that's a good thing brings me joy.I hope it does you as well
Thank you so much for the shout out! Yes, the SG is a great instrument, and everyone has a unique way to use it. I love mine and it's been a fabulous and fun guitar to play. I hope that your musical 2023 has been great. Please keep on playing and always keep that musical MOJO rocking! peace.
Hello my brother Adrian, Man, you've got a true gem of a guitar. All of the kangaroos are going to be jumping to your great vibes. I have to say that I have enjoyed my SG so much since I got it. There's a reason why so many hit songs were played on Gibson SG ! Of course, everyone in Detroit loves AC/DC....it's almost like they were from Detroit. hahaha. Well, the only advice I can give to you at this point in time is to PLAY WITH PASSION! rock steady and stay safe! peace and much love to you from all the folks in Detroit!
Wow-zah! Best unboxing I've seen! She's a Showstopper! Stunningly beautiful finish! Even the case reveal was satisfying! & your Studio/Man-Cave is the business!
Congratulations on your new baby! Mine is acclimating right now, and I will be able to open it tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m enjoying watching you open yours. Thanks for sharing man!
Welcome to the world of 'SG' modern my Brother. Yeah, this thing is NOT OF THIS EARTH. hahahaha. It's got great balance and Gibson put the smaller Grover tuners on it to avert neck dive. If you use a strap with a little bit of roughed backing you'll have no issues. I like the LAKOTA Tribe leather strap. This guitar is not heavy. It's got the coolest sound with that Burst Bucker setup. Ebony fingerboard is awesome too. The neck radius is totally lovely and overall....one of the best SG releases in a long time. It doesn't matter what amp you play through. You're gonna love it. So....the only advice I can give you at this point in time is to ....PLAY WITH PASSION! rock on!🎸
Congrats on the axe! I wanted a black one but they were out of stock at the time. I know that you are going to blaze new musical trails with that beautiful guitar. My only advice is to >>>>>PLAY WITH PASSION!
Thank you for the shout out! I love to play and I hope that you are enjoying your music too. Please be safe and stay healthy and keep on pickin' !!! peace.
well, thank you for the complement. I love guitars and I hope that you are also enjoying your music and instruments. Never stop playing and always PLAY WITH PASSION! peace.
Hello my friend, thank you for the kind words. Every day with a guitar is like a celebration. I hope that you are expanding your music and making your own sounds of musical freedom and expression. never stop playing and always look within your inner-being for the mojo within your SOUL! peace.
Thank you for the shout out. I love this SG. Gibson did a great job on fit and finish. The playability is superb. I hope that all of your music is going well. Never stop playing! peace.
Thank you for the complement. I am sure that you are also an excellent player and I hope that you ar enjoying your music to the fullest. Jam on and stay healthy! peace.
I love that guitar my friend, I haven’t played in years , just hit 5 out of 6 on the mega millions , so went to the guitar center tried out so many guitars when I say that one I noticed the input jack was on the side , took it down played it loved it gonna buy it.
Awesome video. I just got a Epiphone SG Modern Red fade and its a phenomenal guitar. I do have a Blueberry Gibson and It's purple on the outside with Key Grovers. Meanwhile I speechless over the Zzounds Red Epiphone. $50 a month. Thanks for the Vid... Both Awesome Guitars...
Hello Jay, congrats on the new axe. Every day is another opportunity to put the sounds into the air. Please do so with good health in body and mind. The only piece of advice I can send to you is to PLAY WITH PASSION!! peace.
Thank you much my friend. Gibson makes great guitars. I love this SG. It's one of the two best playing guitars that I have ever played. The other is my Gibson ES-335. The quality from Gibson is superb. there will always be haters and negative comments about any guitar brand but the people at Gibson do the best that they can to give you an instrument that you will enjoy for a lifetime! Play on! peace.
Yeah I know there were always be haters unfortunately, but they only hate because they’re jealous. Look how many guitars look like less Paul’s and SGs. The listing goes on forever but there’s only one original and that’s Gibson I have I had a Les Paul unfortunately I had to sell it my little girl needed dental work and I didn’t want her to suffer so now I’m going to pick up that SG .” THEY HATE US CAUSE THEY AINT US” lol that quotes from a movie I don’t know if you have seen it or not it’s called the dictator. Anyway have a good one
This guitar checks a lot of boxes I might have to get one. 24 frets, lightweight, beautiful, American, block inlays... just can't decide on the blue or the black. I have a blue tele, so maybe black lol.
Hello there my friend. I am so happy to hear that you are thinking about grabbing a SG Modern. I have to tell you that I love mine. They are so nice to look at and even a better experience to play. Gibson decided to use the smaller GROVER tuners in order to avoid neck dive. the Finish and fit are perfect. Also, you probably know that Gibson does a PLEK job on this thing. The fingerboard is so fast and easy to play. As for sound......well.....WOW! It's the right tool for so many things. Black? or Blue???? it won't matter. You're going to love what you've got in your hands, no matter which color you select. The only bit of advice I can give you.....regardless of what you decide to play....is >>>>>>PLAY WITH PASSION!!🎵 have a wonderful, musical, 2024!
Hello Bryan Mc ! Thank you for the shout out. I am very happy with this SG Modern. Great tones and NO NECK DIVE. Stays in tune and really makes me want to play every time I look at it. I hope that you are doing well with your music and you are safe and healthy. Rock steady my friend. peace.
@@jakesmith4506 Hi Jake, thanks for the positive message man. You convinced me to pick one up, think I'm going with the trans black colour. Likewise, I hope it's all good on your end, take it easy.

Hello Rodnocker, thanks for checking out my channel. I am looking forward to seeing live music again....hopefully this summer. It's been a while since I've been out of music. In the meantime, I'm in my BAT CAVE making as much noise as possible. haha. So, be safe and stay healthy! rock your music !!
That is beautiful. I may buy one next year. I don't like the clear knobs, I may change them to witch hat knobs. But I definitely want to get hold hardware. What a coincidence, mine will be my birthday gift to me as well 😂
Hello Keith, Thank you for visiting my channel. Yes, this axe is very cool and if it arrives as a gift that makes it even more fun to have. I hope that your musical 2023 has been great. The world can always appreciate another great musician so keep playing and rock on!
I own a 2018 Gibson SG Standard HP Mojave Fade Nashville. Tennessee, USA-with “The G Force tuner” 😂 it really is a great guitar. Your guitar sounds and looks beautiful
Thank you for the shout out. Yes, Gibson has done an extremely good job with the manufacturing and quality of these instruments. I've never owned a bad Gibson instrument. I've only had one shakey Fender instrument, that was back in 1976. Overall, I think that the quality factor for just about everyone has increased, unless it's one of those $40 online disasters. hahaha. Well, thank you again for the shout out. Have a wonderful, musical 2024 and remember................. PLAY WITH PASSION!
Hey Dougie, thank you for looking at my channel. I apologize for the long response time. I hope that your music is rocking and that you are safe and healthy! peace
Ohhh! Man, I gotta add one of these to my collection. I have been wanting an SG since I was a kid. I now know which one I have to have. That blueberry burst is so beautiful. I love the build. Congrats and Happy Birthday! You did well for yourself. I gotta support Sweetwater since I don’t have a LGS to get one from. They give me the best in customer service. I think this will be a birthday present to myself this year. For Christmas I bought myself a beautiful Koa Taylor.
Hello Anthony, the main thing is to play! Yep, as long as you can pluck a sound that's all that matters. Music is so important to the entire planet. Where would we be without it? I do enjoy this Gibson SG a lot. They are doing a fabulous job in the quality and sound. So, be safe and remember that the planet needs musicians! peace.
Sounds awesome. Gibson seems to be doing things right these days. I bought a standard 60s and it’s the best Les Paul I’ve ever owned. Now I’m looking at these!
Hello my friend. Yes, Gibson is doing a marvelous job with their products. I've been a Gibson fan my entire life. Please play your music often and always PLAY WITH PASSION!!! peace.

Thank you Tom. I love this guitar. I have no idea how Gibson gets that blue-purple explosion of color into the wood. I'm super happy with it and I love the sound. Please be safe and healthy and definitely rock on. Play often my friend. peace.
Hello Daniel, thank you for checking out my channel. Yes, the blueberry burst is stunning. i love the way it plays and sounds. Please be safe and play often! peace.

Thank you so much for the shout out. Yes, the SG Modern is great. The sound, playability, and overall MOJO is right where it needs to be. Gibson is really creating some super-duper guitars. In the meantime, I hope that your 2024 has been filled with great music. Always keep playing my friend. Never let the guitar sit for too long without hitting those strings! Rock on!

Thanks for the video Jake! I am super excited, I just ordered myself this exact same guitar. I haven't even had a chance to play one yet, but that finish is awesome and every reviewer comments on what a dream the guitar is to play. Can't wait to plug in and play! Rock and stay safe, my brother.

Hello my friend, YES..... I still love this SG. I played it today! The SG is one of the best inventions in the world of electric guitar. I hope that you've been keeping your musical mojo in motion. The best thing to do is to play your music and be creative. The one bit of advice I give to all players is to >>>>>>>PLAY WITH PASSION!
Hey Dougie, the Gibson SG is a wonderful thing. I'm glad that I was able to get one of the Modern SG's because they are a hot item. I think the plague really goofed up the manufacturing processes for the guitar companies. But....people decided it was a good time to get back into playing and I am happy that people adapted the best they could. So, please rock on and never give up!! peace,

Thank you so much my friend. Yes, Gibson has an eternal place in my heart too. I grew up only 4 streets away from the Kalamazoo factory back in the day. Too bad I don't have a time machine. I'd go back and buy up all the available Kalamazoo made Les Paul's and SG's. ha. No such luck. So, I suppose I'll just sit down and practice. ha. rock steady my friend.
Wow. I wasn’t a big fan of the blue color way of this guitar when I was checking it out on the website, but after seeing this video I really like it. I’m planning on adding one of these to the collection soon. I have an SG standard currently and I love it, it’s the only guitar I’ll play. That SG modern is a beautiful guitar though. I’m sure you love it!
Hello Chim, thank you for visiting my channel. YES ! BLUE! I wasn't a big fan of blue either, until I saw what Gibson did to this SG. There's a slight tint of purple in the mix and it totally blows my mind. I have no idea how they do the paint process but the sound of the burst buckers is fabulous. Also, the earlier SG moderns had locking tuners. The newest ones have mini Grover non locking tuners. It helps to reduce neck dive and weight in the headstock. The strap button is also moved back to the original mid-body position. Wait until you see the beautiful ebony fingerboard and the mother-of-pearl inlays. Of course, sound is what makes this axe really sparkle with sonics. So, regardless of what you play, always PLAY WITH PASSION! Be safe and healthy and keep your strings shakin'. peace.
@@jakesmith4506 I’m still waiting to get mine. It has been delayed a few times. Apparently Gibson is have a hard time producing guitars as a result of covid. I’m patient tho and don’t mind waiting. I’m hoping to have it within the next month or so
Hello Robert, it's nice to hear from you again. it took three attempts to actually get this guitar in hand. two other occasions ended up getting sold out before I could act. this time I think I got the last one in the Zzounds stock. Came here because of the link you put in your zZounds review, and subscribed because of that tasty playing at the end! Love it! If you wouldn't mind sir, how bad is the neck dive on this model?
Hello Allan, thank you for visiting my humble channel. YEAH, I love the SG modern. It's wonderful. As for neck dive ....there is none! Gibson uses the smaller, lighter GROVER tuners. Much less weight than the locking version. Also, there are NO tuning issues. For goodness sake, I have no idea why people say that Gibson guitars go out of tune. It's just not true. These people simply do not know how to put strings on a guitar properly. I have watched Angus Young bounce all over the stage with his SG guitars and I've never heard a time that he was playing out of tune. He's probably one of the most active guitar players around when it comes to a live performance. Also, the other part of the equation is that I use guitar straps that are made from leather. Not the seat belt slick stuff. I like straps made by the LAKOTA Tribe but there are others that provide a raw texture on the 'body' side of the strap. This kind of strap grips you over your shoulder and down your back so that things do not move around. see>>>lakotaleathers.com/ also franklinstrap.com/ I have four Gibson SG's and never a neck dive and never out of tune. By all means go with the stuff that is comfortable for you. I do happen to like zZounds Music online a lot. My last three purchases were from them. I also purchased a Fender Telecaster Ultra, and a Fender Telecaster Rarities series with a maple top. So, overall, the Gibson SG will deliver the quality and the sound that makes you smile! Rock steady my friend. Embrace the music and PLAY WITH PASSION!! peace. extra: ruclips.net/video/nz6Z4stElho/видео.html
Hello Martin, yes, it's a wonderful instrument. But, I just have to say that the beauty of the sound is in your hands. So, play often and be creative with your sounds. Reach into your inner self and create the things you want to hear. Be safe above all and never give up!
Thank you for taking a look at my channel. yeah, Gibson did a great job with this guitar. The crafstmanship and quality are superb. The action on the neck is sonic! Please be safe and healthy, and above all ROCK STEADY !
Hello my friend. Thank you for visiting my channel. THERE IS NO NECK DIVE with the SG. Gibson released the first batch with Grover locking tuners but since then they switched to the smaller Grover non-locking tuners. No problem. I use a high quality leather strap with my instrument. The leather grips my clothing to further secure the instrument in it's proper location without moving around. It's great. Also, my instrument stays in tune. I can't believe the number of people that claim that Gibsons don't stay in tune. In fact, they do STAY IN TUNE. Ever hear Angus Young play out of tune? hahaha. NEVER. Never heard Jimmy Page go out of tune with his Gibson guitars. I'm pretty sure those people with tuning issues don't know how to put strings on their guitars. Oh well....in the meantime, please try out an SG Modern. I think that you will find it to be an excellent instrument that will provide a lifetime of happiness in playing. be safe and rock on!
Hello my friend. I got my SG from Zzounds Music Online. It's really been a great instrument. The build quality, fit and finish are superb. I have no problem with neck dive. Never a problem with staying in tune. The one thing that always bugs me is when non-Gibson players claim that Gibson guitars go out of tune. This is not true. I do believe that those people do not know how to put strings on the guitar properly. Geez. Hey...I stand by Gibson quality 100%. Of course, no manufacturer is perfect but I do believe that you will really enjoy owning and playing any Gibson guitar you decide to get. (no disrespect to any other guitar company) So...my one real piece of advice is to 'PLAY WITH PASSION'! rock on and be safe!
Hello my friend, Do not despair. Your guitar will arrive one day. It is worth the wait. I think that many of the major manufacturers of guitars were caught by surprise when people decided to pick up guitar during the lock downs. Fender had the highest sales in their company history last year. It's really quite good to see that people are getting into guitar or getting back into guitar. It's one of the best things to do when things are a bit restricted. But, there is no restriction on your creativity. Be patient. Things will eventually come. I ordered a Gibson Firebird a few years ago that seemed like it would never come but when I got it I was overjoyed with the product that came. Gibson might be taking a little extra time on your guitar but it's only because they want to get it RIGHT. So, be safe, stay healthy. the world NEEDS guitar players. peace.
Hello Luke, I love my SG. In my opinion, I think you would love one too. Any time someone asks me about buying a guitar my answer is always 'YES'! haha. Hey, life is short and the things that people regret are usually the things they didn't try to do. As my pals mom once told me, "the worst that can happen is NOTHING". So, as long as you aren't neglecting necessary financial obligations ....do it.! and BE SAFE and healthy in the meantime. The world needs guitar players!! PEACE. (only my opinion, the final choice is yours)
Hello Kingcopycat. Thanks for checking out my channel. I play a blues-rock style but am open for other stuff too. I'm in the Detroit area so there are many very excellent players here. I enjoy seeing all of the great musicians. I hope that all is well with you and your music. rock on!
The 2019 version of this guitar had heavy locking tuners so that caused the guitar to neck dive really bad. To counter that, they moved the button to the back of the horn to provide counter balance. It didn't help much unless you got a really fat strap. The Grovers are much lighter so they moved the button back to the standard SG spot near the heel of the neck.
Hi Roger, Geez, the strap button move happened because of neck dive complaints and they also went with a lighter, smaller tuner to reduce weight. So, I have never had a neck dive issue but I use straps with a rougher contact material so the leather straps I have don't slip on my shoulder. rock on my friend.
Hello Tman, I love this guitar. As for neck dive....NONE. But I have never had a SG with neck dive. At the same time, I use leather guitar straps that have a natural texture on the 'body-contact' side of the strap. So, I have a strap that provides grip to my clothing at my shoulder. I don't know if that makes sense or not. But, if a person is wearing a polyester shirt and using one of the straps made out of seat belt material they might experience neck dive. Yes, Gibson used smaller tuners to help balance the guitar. When the old Firebirds came out back in the 50's Gibson used Banjo Keys as tuners. hahaha. That was a load for sure. But, rest assured that the new SG modern is well balanced. Hey, I'm old and I remember the days before strap locks. Back in the 70's it was necessary to always grip the guitar neck. Straps weren't very reliable either back then. So, whenever I see a guitar player totally take hands completely off of a guitar I cringe. But, remember to stay safe and healthy. Above all....PLAY WITH PASSION!!! peace.
Hello Philip, Yeah the Gibson SG is their best selling guitar over all others. I love mine and I think that they have an iconic sound that's launch many great tunes over the years. My first electric guitar was a Gibson SG. I should have kept it but back in 1974 I knew very little about how that guitar was changing the world of music. Live and learn. haha. Please be safe and healthy. Got to keep the music alive !! much peace and joy to you and your family!
Great review. Great tone. Great phrasing. Thank you sir. :D I'm thinking about getting this. I'm concerned about 2 things: 1. Neck dive. 2. Neck profile. Your experienced opinion please?
Hi Leftyzappa, thanks for taking a look at my channel. This guitar is quite fabulous. I love everything about it. The Gibson people do a process called 'PLEK' on the fingerboard. Geez, the frets are quite fabulous. As for your two questions......#1 ....NO NECK DIVE. The first batch of the SG Moderns were released with regular Groover machine heads on them. This might have created a neck dive on the earlier models. Since that time the changed to using Groover 'mini' tuners. A few grams lighter than the others. So, I've never had a neck dive issue. I also use a LAKOTA guitar strap. The strap has a nice soft and strong texture and the backing has a small degree of texture to it. This actually kind of grips your clothing when the guitar is strapped over your shoulder. So, unless you wear a lot of polyester you'll be just fine with a LAKOTA guitar strap or a FRANKLIN guitar strap. There are others but those are the ones I like to use. #2....Neck profile could be considered modern. It's not too thin, not too fat, not weird. Of course, how the neck feels is highly subjective. I have guitar pals that love a JEFF BECK (baseball bat) style of neck. Other pals like the super mega-metal shredder thin neck. The best thing to do is to grab a SG Modern at your local shop. But, in my hands.....IT IS PERFECT. By the way, GIBSON guitars DO NOT go out of tune. Ever hear Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi or Billy Gibbons play out of tune on a Gibson? NO. It's because they know how to put strings on a guitar. I included a link to a very excellent method on how to string a guitar. This works. Also, people like to bad mouth Gibson. No guitar company is perfect but there is a very good reason so many great players choose Gibson. It's because they are great. If an SG is good enough for Angus....it's probably good enough for anyone. Angus bounces and jumps all over the place with his Gibson. Never goes out of tune. He usually plays one instrument all night long with no switching. So, please feel confident that you'll be happy and well supported by Gibson if you decide to purchase one of their new products. They stand behind their instruments. Be sure to register your purchase, regardless of what instrument you decide to buy. HAPPY HUNTING........and.........PLAY WITH PASSION!!!! peace. www.gibson.com/en-US/Guitar/USAQHL543/SG-Modern/Blueberry-Fade how to string a guitar the proper way: ruclips.net/video/opmg6lK8FkY/видео.html PS: american made instruments tend to hold their value in the long run. @@jakesmith4506 Thank you Jake. :D I've owned many Gibsons. I'm a lefty. It is very, very rare to find one in house near me to try. There was one of these a year ago but I missed it. Glad to hear about the neck dive. I've got big hands but prefer either a C or soft V (ala Dean). I have a 2018 Explorer that Gibson knocked out of the park. I was hoping for a rave review of these SGs because of their size. Most of my guitars are Vs, MLs, and Explorers. I think you talked me into it. CHEERS!
you are lucky youre maple cap looks alright, mine looked like a 3pc with wonky lines.. the worst part is you cant really look at it until it arrives.. i returned mine.. sucks but it is what it is..
Hello my brother. I am sorry to hear about your disappointment. I am certain that Gibson will replace the wonky instrument with a good one. Let me share this story with you. >>>>>> I purchased a Gibson Midtown Classic back in 2015. I loved the guitar but after a few years the neck became quite unstable. I took the guitar to my local repair shop and they informed me that I had a deeper issue than just a setup adjustment. Since I was the original purchaser of the instrument, I contacted Gibson about the problems that I was having. They asked me to send the guitar back with a proof of purchase. They then informed me that they were going to replace the guitar completely! I was so surprised. Not only that.....they replace my $1500 Midtown with a NEW ES-335 !!!!!!!!!! Needless to say there is a big price difference between the two models. They could have sent an ES-339 and I would have still been happy, but they sent the 335. Never gave me a problem or static about the replacement. This is why I continue to purchase from Gibson. They stand behind their product. This 335 is the best guitar I have ever had in my life. Thanks to Gibson. No company is perfect. Even Rolls Royce has warranty claims. So, in my humble opinion, give Gibson another chance. They get a bunch of bad 'lip' for the few things that go sideways but no one seems to want to talk about stuff that gets corrected or just works out well. So that's my experience in dealing with a Gibson product that wasn't up to standards. Gibson took care of it far beyond my wildest dreams. ES-335's are pricey! They sent one to me anyway. So, always remember that you are in control of your choices and that it's your money, so you always want to spend wisely. Check out my 335 video. I love this guitar too. ruclips.net/video/TDqdPa-nu5w/видео.htmlsi=oqlfN1CNXcqkUR5S always remember to PLAY WITH PASSION!
Great review! I have the '61 SG Re-issue. Have you ever tried the '61? Would you say is the SG Modern "better" than the SG '61 Re-Issue? I play a lot of Classic Rock, AC/DC, Sabbath, Zep, Beatles. That kind of music. Good luck in your future endeavors.
Hello Angel, sorry about the delayed response. I have not tried the '61 reissue but I am certain that it meets the requirements of the players that are looking for a more vintage vibe. It all comes down to the desires of the player. Getting your own personal sound together is the key. We all learn from other players but the real joy of playing is to do what you like to do and establish your own MOJO. As for better or not....well...in my opinion the best guitar is the one you've got in your own hands right now. hahaha. Well, the world of guitar is so vast that it's really all about what makes you happy. so....PLAY WITH PASSION my friend. peace.
Hi Jake Great Video and playing. Would you say that the SG Modern lies exactly between the SG Standard and Les Paul in terms of sound? A kind of midranged Les Paul?
Hello My Friend, Thank you for the shout out. Well, I suppose that I never really thought about the sound similarities between the instruments. In most cases the sound of one instrument can vary a lot depending on amps, speakers, effects, cabinets, and if a person is using a modeling amp. Sooo......wow. I think it's a wide open door on sound from instrument to instrument. Half the time I hear a Tele on a recording I think it's a Gretsch. hahaha. The SG modern is really a superb instrument. Gibson is building some really great stuff. In the meantime, keep your own music rolling. Never stop playing! peace.
Hi Jake! Is the Asymmetrical neck as goofy and ridiculous as the Fender ultralux is? I hated the Fender Asymmetrical. And when I play my SG I cant stand slim taper like the 61, I play round neck full pick guard standards. Would this one just get on my nerves?
Hello Simon, thank you for shouting out. In my situation I love this neck. It's like putting on a nicely worn in baseball glove. It's just right for me. I have a variety of different guitars with different necks and I suppose that I don't really care which neck I'm playing. Wide, thin, fat or round is all good to me. The only neck that kind of gave me a heads up is the Jeff Back neck. That one was a bit of a surprise, but I have no problem going from a Strat to a Les Paul to a Tele or a Gretsch. I think it all depends mostly on the sound I'm looking for at that moment. By all means, check out the SG Modern. Only you can be the judge on whether its a good fit for you. In the meantime, keep on playing and above all....PLAY WITH PASSION! Here's a sample of a few guitars that I happen to have. ruclips.net/video/Vp0Em25N6mE/видео.htmlsi=fwzmuJIThFZ5V_gq I love playing all of them. Just having fun.
Hi Jake, how is the SG doing? I managed to snag a Translucent Black Modern this morning from the Demo Shop and hoping it is everything I keep reading and seeing online. I'm probably going to sell my Epiphone Tony Iommi to make some space, but will see :D I'm very excited the Modern has similar specs: 24 fret, input jack on the side, but also a Gibson with more features and options than the Epi Iommi. I'm a fan of the coil taps, especially clean, love them on my LP's. Great review! I have to ask man, on the last track is that you on all the instruments? If so, great sounding and very nice groove all around...if not, great choice :D
Hi Kenneth, congrats on the new axe! You will love it. I really think that Gibson has done a great job on products as of late. They are pretty much listening to people and delivering what people want. NO MORE AUTOMATIC tuners. hahaha. Well, I played my little solo over a Buckethead style generic backing track. It's really great that backing tracks are available on RUclips. During the plague the band never got together, so, playing along with something was certainly better than nothing at all. The specs on the SG modern are wonderful. All of the Gibson guitars get the PLEK process so the necks are just about perfect. I have got to say that I am so happy to see the guitar industry bounce back and excel. More young people are getting into musical instruments and that's a very good thing. SO.....PLAY WITH PASSION and be safe! peace.
Hello Iownoxm, GEEEEZ, The neck and action on this guitar is unreal. The ebony fingerboard is a super treat. I get hypnotized by the mother of pearl inlays. The neck is a slight more thick than my Gary Clark jr SG model. But, wow, what a great feel. As far as comparing to a Les Paul, it kind of depends on what year and model of Les Paul, so, I suppose that it's right at home with most modern Les Paul models. So, please be safe and healthy. Play your music often and rock steady! peace.
Jake congratulations on the sg. I too have an sg modern. I went with the trans black. I do love it, but the headstock dive was unbearable. So I did relocate the strap button to the upper point. I know some people maybe hurt by that, but it was 100xs better standing and playing after I did it. How is your headstock dive?
Hello Sid, Congrats on the new axe. Yes, trans black rules. It was my first choice but it was sold out. But, I really don't have a neck dive issue. I use Franklin guitar straps and the ones I buy have a nice leather backing that doesn't slip around on my shoulder. Also, since I'm an old guy I grew up back in the 70's before the invention of strap locks. So, lots of dropped guitars back then. So, for me, I always have a hand on my neck for anything I was playing. it's a habit to hold on to the guitar neck for me but it was out of necessity. Back then we didn't have Seymour Duncan or replacement parts for much of anything. ha. But, I know that it's all about the music and you aren't going to be able to put that axe down for too long. ha. YEAH! Jam up jelly tight my friend. Rip open the sonic soul of the sky and play your music with all the passion in your heart! Much peace and good health to you and your family.
@@jakesmith4506 Thank you for the very kind words. I purchased my sg 7 months ago. The day after Thanksgiving I bought my first tele. I now own a tele ultra texas tea! I'll always have the sg because it is that great of a guitar. Since I got the tele I haven't been able to put it down. I may make some videos in the future. For now if you are interested you can find some videos of my play on RUclips. Just search Rod Wilkins and the LOC band at jergels. We opened for The Tubes January 24th 2020. Sadly covid hit and we lost steam. I've since left the band and decided to work on my own music which I plan to release soon. Take care for now, love your videos. I forgot to mention im the cat in the sunglasses if you look up our videos.
Did you sell this guitar on reverb? The top looks exactly like the one I recently bought. The left piece of maple top is more flames than the right. And the flame pattern looks very similar.
Hello Andrew, Thank you for checking out my channel. No, I did not sell the SG. I really love it. I think you'll get a super kick out of the one you have. There's a possibility that the wood from the same tree was used when Gibson was selecting maple tops. You never know. I find the entire guitar building process to be beyond my comprehension. haha. At the time I was trying to buy my guitar there was a short supply everywhere. It was like the product vanished for a while. I had three attempts trying to buy this one. So, I am happy that you found one that suits your needs. These things are totally beautiful. So, be safe and stay healthy and above all PLAY WITH PASSION !!! peace.
Hello Scottjua, Thank you for tuning in to my channel. Wow, finding a Gibson SG Modern was a challenge for me, for sure. It took three different attempts to secure a purchase and I ended up getting one through Zzounds music online. Attempt #1 was at my local Detroit music shops. strike one. #2 was unsuccessful from Musicians Friend. They took the order and then cancelled and refunded me. #3 was the last one in stock at Zzounds. I had originally wanted a black one but they were sold out. Either way, it's a great guitar. So, I don't know how Gibson does the order/shipment thing. I think the covid situation put many instruments on back order. I just don't know. Don't give up. Eventually one will opo up online and you'll have to move quickly. So, hang in there and stay healthy. The world needs guitar players! peace.
hahahha....well.....yeah. I'm more than crazed about guitars. But it's better than hookers , booze and dope. rock on! Play with passion! only 33 for now.
Hey Deuce, thank you for visiting my channel. Well, the sounds of this SG and any Les Paul are pretty different. Not to say one is better than the other. They are both wonderful instruments but the tones are different. Either way you'll be happy. The main thing is to PLAY WITH PASSION! peace.
Hello Pavel, thank you for checking out my channel. Well, the tune that I tried to play is called "I'd Love to Change the World" from Ten Years After ( see: ruclips.net/video/CTUsFm0BAu8/видео.html ) Alvin Lee was a fabulous musician. He really heated things up when they played " I'm Going Home" at the first Woodstock Music Festival. There are many great players out there. That's part of what makes music fun to listen to. Of course, you must create your own musical path and enjoy what you lie to play. above all...PLAY WITH PASSION! peace.
Hello my friend. Gibson ships the SG Modern with this setup> Strings Gauge .010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046 Of course, they are Gibson strings and they are cool. For me, I use D'Addario .009's . Everyone has a preference, and it largely depends on the style of music and feel you want. I have a pal (Doug Demming in Detroit) that uses extra heavy gauge strings and hikes them up really high. hahaha. Geez, he could slice cheese with his setup. Overall, it's really up to you as to what you need. Gibson performs a PLEK operation on their guitars so every one of them start out pretty darn perfect. I have a bunch of Fender guitars too and some of them have a varied selection of string gauges. But, let your hands tell you what you need. It will all be good in the end! 😃
@@jakesmith4506 right now I have a jazz master with 11s. I ordered a set of d’addarios 9.5 gauge and planned on putting these on my jazz master but after seeing the modern sg… man I might just have to get myself one😁
Hello my friend. I hope that all is well with you and your family. yes, this one is a keeper. gibson did such a great job on quality and the sound is superb. Please play often and stay healthy! peace.
Came for the neck dive , stayed for the fantastic playing. Well done sir.
They are as much fun as you can have in the world of sonics! be safe and rock on my friend! peace.
@@jakesmith4506 Thanks for the hook up, and be blessed my friend.....

Hello my brother Adrian, Man, you've got a true gem of a guitar. All of the kangaroos are going to be jumping to your great vibes. I have to say that I have enjoyed my SG so much since I got it.
So....the only advice I can give you at this point in time is to ....PLAY WITH PASSION! rock on!🎸

Be safe and healthy and keep your strings shakin'. peace.

Wow you are a excellent player! Hey how’s the neck dive in these? I really want one but that’s the only thing holding me back
Hello my friend.
@@jakesmith4506 thank you! I’ll pick on up! Keep rockin!
Jake, you ripped it boss....awesome. I am looking to get the same...Who did you order from?
Nice
thank you! Gibson did an excellent job.
I dream that one day I will be the proud owner of a Gibson SG Modern. I've only had it on order since June. God knows what's taking so long.
So, be safe, stay healthy. the world NEEDS guitar players. peace.
Beautiful guitar my man, my local shop has one and I’m highly considering buying it. It would be my first Gibson as well.
Hello Luke, I love my SG. In my opinion, I think you would love one too. Any time someone asks me about buying a guitar my answer is always 'YES'! haha. Wow... that's a beauty. When did they move the fwd strap button from the upper horn back to the heel of the neck?
Great video....some say there is no Neck Dive because of the lighter tuners...your thoughts?
Above all....PLAY WITH PASSION!!! peace.
This made me want to get an SG
Hello Philip, Yeah the Gibson SG is their best selling guitar over all others. I love mine and I think that they have
an iconic sound that's launch many great tunes over the years.
I'm concerned about 2 things:
1. Neck dive.
HAPPY HUNTING........and.........PLAY WITH PASSION!!!! peace.

Hi Jake
Great Video and playing.

SO.....PLAY WITH PASSION and be safe! peace.

Love that SG! How’s neck as compared to current Gibson LP?

Sadly covid hit and we lost steam. I've since left the band and decided to work on my own music which I plan to release soon. Take care for now, love your videos. I forgot to mention im the cat in the sunglasses if you look up our videos.
@@sid5156 Hey Sid, I checked out your channel. FUN STUFF. I love it. it's got PUNCH and fury. rock steady!!
So, be safe and stay healthy and above all PLAY WITH PASSION !!! peace.
Where did you get it!? I can't find it anywhere. Just the 2019 model
The world needs guitar players! peace.
@@jakesmith4506 thanks so much!
How many guitars do you own Jake? It's an addiction I know...
hahahha....well.....yeah. I'm more than crazed about guitars. But it's better than hookers , booze and dope. rock on! Play with passion!
only 33 for now.
Any word how comparable it is to a Les Paul with its maple cap?
Hey Deuce, thank you for visiting my channel. Well, the sounds of this SG and any Les Paul are pretty different. Not to say one is better than the other. They are both wonderful instruments but the tones are different. Either way you'll be happy. The main thing is to PLAY WITH PASSION! peace.
what is that tune around the 9 min mark?
Hello Pavel, thank you for checking out my channel. Well, the tune that I tried to play is called "I'd Love to Change the World" from Ten Years After ( see: ruclips.net/video/CTUsFm0BAu8/видео.html ) Alvin Lee was a fabulous musician. He really heated things up when they played " I'm Going Home" at the first Woodstock Music Festival. There are many great players out there. That's part of what makes music fun to listen to. Of course, you must create your own musical path and enjoy what you lie to play. above all...PLAY WITH PASSION! peace.
What gauge strings do the sg moderns come with?
Hello my friend. Gibson ships the SG Modern with this setup>
Strings Gauge .010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046
Of course, they are Gibson strings and they are cool.
