I basically started playing guitar because of Jack White. I was 14 when this came out, I saw them live and could not believe what I was hearing! White Stripes in a nutshell is Meg White playing a very simple but effective drum beat and Jack White laying down everything else. Strange relationship. Jack would always introduce Meg as his Sister which people believed at first and then it was found out that they were a couple, they married and Jack took Meg’s last name of White. Hello from across the pond. In Lancaster California. I'd dig it if you got into some Rush. I believe you did one, maybe two reactions? If you started with the first album, I think you might dig the blues vibe. The first album was done with the original drummer and co-founder of Rush, John Rutsey. The same year, the first album came out, and they replaced John with Neil Peart. I, for one, dig it. Geddy Lee wrote a majority of it with Alex Lifeson there helping. I'm 56, I dig that you are expanding your musical artists and genres. It's good to see your generation listen to older stuff. Hey, if I like it, I don't care what genres it is. Keep up the great content. Take care and be well. David
Glad you’re broadening your listening to different bands. “I think I smell a rat is another great by the white stripes If you want a distinct dark bassline try “archives of pain” off of the holy bible album (would recommend a lyric video cuz it’s got some great lyrics to go with it) ♥️
This song is amazing, it's just a shame that it got so overplayed, to the point where it is inescapable. Every sporting event, every shop, anywhere you go, there is either this version, or people covering it, or turning it into a chant. You can have too much of a good thing.
Jack is so talented. And versatile... He's got songs on the soundtrack of the film "Cold Mountain"... Bluegrass! (It stars Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. And himself!)
It is a madter class in "riff stacking". First, the bass riff, which us actually not a bass but his guitar played thru an octave pedal down 1 octave. Then. Stack the "rythm" guitar riff on that for most of the song, except the E-A bridge. In the second 'verse: he stacks a 'lead'guitar riff with a 'Cream' guitar sound (tasty by the way) over the rythm guitar riff for a littke more depth and flavor. All this over a mesmerizing but oh so simple drum rythm. Simple, Perfect. Infectious.
Glad you went down the White Stripes Rabbit Hole. Jack White can do more with piece of wood slab and a guitar string nailed down over a glass bottle and a elec pickup than most of today's guitar players. Try "Icky Thump" next. Oh and some of his more mellow blues songs are a treat as well! Thanks for playing along!
A good friend, John, who was our drummer, introduced me to the White Stripes when their first album was released. I was immediately hooked. John passed away over a decade ago, but I know he’s still jamming along. Jack White has a very unique style. Loved your reaction and your phrase, “sneaky solo”. I’m stealing that. Peace
Jack White and his sister, the incredible drummer nailed this. I wish I remembered her name because she's a huge part of this. Jack White is a legendary guitarist. I watched a video where Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Brian May interviewed him. Talked about guitar playing.
In case you want to know how this song was made by one guitarist only: Guitar tuning is not regular but open A which allows him to play chords G and A with his index finger only. That is necessary because he uses a bottleneck on his third finger to play slide guitar in other parts. The „bass“ riff is actually a guitar riff using only one string of the guitar so he can play it with his index finger alone going up and down the string. He adds at this part an effect box called octaver so the riff sounds two octaves deeper like a bass. In other parts he repeats the riff on the guitar sliding with the bottleneck on the third finger only and playing to strings at a time, giving it that sharp sound. To make it even sharper, he plays it one octave higher in other parts. The solo is basically the riff slided on one string with some variations and additional tones. Jack White reinvented rock guitar playing by going back to zero and start again.
I'm 68 and I love your videos. It's great fun to watch younger generations discover classic rock. We really did have the best music, I think. Loved your reactions to Journey, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac ,Heart and more. But hearing you say you like surprising things ...I just had to ask you to react to one of my favorite groups that I discovered through watching reaction channels...Pentatonix. They are an acapella group...(mostly). I'd start with Hallelujah. If you like it we can go from there...deep rabbit hole. They are probably like nothing you have ever heard before and its all just their beautiful voices and some beatboxing. Usually.
I believe they're siblings. 🖤 Good to see you, bruv. I've been crazy busy. Still needing you to do more Korn (Twisted Transistor is a must but you've gotta hear the full track with intro.) Rammstein - Sonne and Type O (several) lol

They have done several covers with a different interpretation.
David
They make a hell of a good noise for two people
If you've been to a football game, you have probably heard this melody.
Glad you’re broadening your listening to different bands. “I think I smell a rat is another great by the white stripes
If you want a distinct dark bassline try “archives of pain” off of the holy bible album (would recommend a lyric video cuz it’s got some great lyrics to go with it)
♥️
This song is amazing, it's just a shame that it got so overplayed, to the point where it is inescapable. Every sporting event, every shop, anywhere you go, there is either this version, or people covering it, or turning it into a chant. You can have too much of a good thing.
Jack is so talented. And versatile... He's got songs on the soundtrack of the film "Cold Mountain"... Bluegrass! (It stars Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. And himself!)
Great reaction!! We love doing this song in the band I sing in. Freakin badass riff. Love the bass!!
Thanks for playing along!
jack white can make his guitar scream and cry, i love it
When he plays this song live it's actually an effect he puts on his guitar to sound like a bass
Peace
Molly I drop in now and again. Love it . P.s .stay safe inUK . Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺.
From the first time I ever heard this song, I was obsessed. It was an instant mosh pit for one in my living room.
instant classic!🔥keep having fun!
Jack White and his sister, the incredible drummer nailed this. I wish I remembered her name because she's a huge part of this. Jack White is a legendary guitarist.
I watched a video where Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Brian May interviewed him. Talked about guitar playing.
Also, check out Jack White's side project, "The Raconteurs," and their song " Steady as she goes"
Oh yes we need some Type O Negative!
I saw the White Stripes at Coachella in 2002 or 2003. They were KILLER.
Such a great song! And one of my favourite music videos ever.
I think you will enjoy The Black Keys aswell. They have a couple of great songs, but especially Lonely Boy and Little Black Submarines are must listens!
Was lucky enough to see Jack at a small venue when he launched his solo career after the white stripes, saw him again w Loretta Lynn and The Raconteurs, and again just the Raconteurs. Mind blown every time.
You will never go wrong reacting to anything from these two.
Other amazing odd band combinations:
Morphine: 2 string slide bass, dual sax welded together, and drums
Ben Folds Five: piano, bass, drums
Please check both out
Dang I miss Morphine
Unique and so damn good. Badass.
