@@sustainableberlin3226 no worries! Thanks for being the first comment. Yeah… I sent this video to Leatt and Atlas. Doubtful Leatt will respond with the price tag justification. Atlas are reviewing the straps though. These are very cheap on the used market mind you and they aren’t like helmets. Will be fine to buy a used one.
Thank you for making this video. Your personal rider feedback are both very useful. I have both the Atlas Air lite and the Leatt 4.5. I prefer using the Atlas Air lite for just a tiny bit of comfort more and a tiny bit lesser “obstructiveness” when riding. I have somewhat of a concern using the Leatt 4.5 without a chest protector because of the somewhat lesser inflexibility on the part that rests on my chest as it could press on more on my ribs and sternum when an accident happens. The Atlas Air lite has more sort of “dampening” on the chest part than the Leatt 4.5. When using a chest protector I absolutely also like using my Leatt 4.5.
Thanks for comment! Yeah I think the same about the chest pad need. I'll get an Atlas next season. The Leatt just isn't comfortable and in regards to safety I prefer the actual 3rd party dummy testing vs a computer sim. If you go deep on the LifeMod software there are many cases when it's completely wrong.
The Leatt brace would probably fit you better if you wore compatible Leatt body armor with their special cut-outs. Placing it on top of your Scott jacket is adding just enough height to make it uncomfortable in the attack position. Also, while I'm a huge fan of the ATLAS and their IRL testing I'd agree with your friend that it doesn't "feel" as safe. The ATLAS definitely sits lower and further down than the Leatt, and if you're a rider with a longer neck I'm not entirely sure it would be good enough for a nasty crash. Either way, both are better than nothing. If price is the biggest obstacle I'd happily recommend the Leatt 3.5 which actually has a very similar design to the ATLAS where the back support structures are fully independent and rest solely on the back muscles instead of over the spine like the 5.5. t. Ridden DH with both for multiple seasons.

@@smoofwah3552BMW testing on neck braces might have a video. Driving neck braces is where these all came from. Check the video of how I broke my neck. Hopefully that helps your decision. These things can happen and trust me when the doctor is calling the spinal surgeon there’s only one thing on your mind… what if I was wearing a neck brace… what if I looked etc
Thanks for video and highlighting lack of standardised testing. I've a new interest in neck braces, broke my C2 last weekend after an otb incident. I've plenty of YT time ahead of me
@ sorry to hear that. I’ve been there. You’ll be okay, rest lots with that goose device for your neck then do your stretches when the time comes. Atlas has been tested properly with a dummy but it was in 2012…
Thank you guys for this review. Cant believe how expensive these pieces of plastic are

IMHO Best brace is what fits you best and has some flex specially at front pads.
@@villearponen7521 yes 💯 the important thing is to wear a brace doesn’t matter what brand, especially if you’re getting sendy.
What sizes were you using for both neck braces?
@@EvanJGordon atlas medium leatt large/xl
Trying to do safety gear research is so hard 😢
Maybe sizing matters a bit? But yeah idk about neck braces
Yes it’s difficult. The sizing of these both were spec correctly - it’s rather oddly done by your chest length under the arms.

Good video!Just bought a leatt 4.5 for $150.I need a safer product than a more comfortable one!
Thanks for the comment. You might have miss my point on that - The testing of the atlas is far superior. It’s dummy vs computer simulation testing.
@@guymtbski for sure!but I mean leatt brace feels more comfortable and safer when wearing, despite the non-human testing:(
