      In the 70's we called it speed shifting. You're correct, he did it right. We used to say "shift like you're trying to break the gear shift and stomp the clutch like you're trying to stomp a hole in the floor". Almost forgot "Hold the gas pedal down like you're trimming your toenails on the fan blade."

    • @cavebandit

      Back in Amish country (Southeast PA) we called it flat shifting, because you held the throttle flat.

      So does anyone know what happened when he dumped the clutch? Looks like it bogged, or wanted to stall, but he caught it. I don't get it. Wish the sound was a little better, to fully appreciate the powershifts.

    • @thepowershift
      @thepowershift  2 года назад +12

      Its a 440 sixpack car. The six pack refers to the three two barrel carbs. The outboard carbs are vacuum operated. When i am at the line revving it for launch those carbs are closed. When you let the clutch out it is still on the center carb and it has very little power and you have to wait for the outboard carbs to open. The sticky tires and track conditions bog it down and once the carbs open it takes off.

    Actually floating gears is what truckers used to do on the high r.p.m. engines from 50s,60s and earley 70s.By floating your gears your clutch could last Much longer ! But you have to listen close to the r.p.m.s and the shifter floats right into gear. Whether shifting up or down. Todays trucks are low r.p.m.machines and floating gears is obsolete. Focus and care for what you put all your overtime $ in.

    The pro cars, super stock , grumpy era cars actually power shifted.

    Then drivers could actually power shift.

      Actually thats called slick shifting. All the original cars. Sox and martin, grumpy, and others shifted this way. Called a power shift and sometimes referred to as speed shifting. But this is the fastest way to shift a car with a stock trans. Not many people today can do it. Back in the day a lot of people did it. Today a lot of the stick shift classes have outlawed dogged transmissions for clutchless operation.

    What year Mopar? Pedal off the line to get it to hook? Hard to get my '67 RS/SS Big Block to bite on Stock rubber. LOL! The interior/head liner looks like '68Z28 I gave my grandson last year, he just turned 2. Had it in the Barn 30+yrs.

    • @thepowershift
      @thepowershift  Год назад

      That was floored but the secondaries are vacumm operated and with a sticky tire it will bog. It needs a two step rev limiter to get the secondaries open on the line before I dump the clutch. Get thay Camaro out and use it!

    What's the big deal...flatboard gas, hold it there, use clutch and shift.
    Repeat. I did it dozens of times. It breaks stuff. Like syncros, driveshafts, axles. And you have to steer with one hand, risking accident on street. Automatics are faster, and your 2 hands never leave the wheel.
