The pixel 5 is actually not made of Aluminium despite what their marketing says. As per JerryRigEverything's Durability test it was revealed to be a mix of Bio-Resin (Thin Plastic coating) and Aluminium layer underneath. So you feel plastic more so then metal.

I think the main problem with pixel line in Europe is that it is prohibitively expensive comparing to Samsung. And while Samsung gets regular discounts and promotions pixel does not. Selling point of pixel used to be fast and long update cycles, but Samsung really upped their game it that department so they are equally as good nowadays. @@The-Heart-Will-Testify The performance on Samsung is pretty good. Let's not act like it's bad, it might not be as good as on the Pixel, but still great.
I just went from a Pixel 3 to a Samsung S21....I now see why people claim iphone experience is so much better. The Pixel is so much better user experience. What the Pixel lineups have lacked in specs they more than make up for in beautiful software experience, superior camera focus and reprocessing on real world images, and useful innovative features. the rear mounted finger print scanner is 100x better than stupid in screen scanner that you never know where it is on the screen if the screen is locked. The tactic feedback of the google finger print scanner means I can have my phone unlocked by the time its out of my pocket and phone facing the right direction. I'd never have gotten the Samsung had T-mobile sold the Pixel 5 and I'm nearly at the point of swapping my sim card back to the Pixel 3. Google, I know you are listening....do not get rid of rear finger print scanner....in glass sensors are all the rage, but they are stupid in practice.
Pixel's camera software is still top notch, even with a slower processor as the sdm730. No wonder they never changed the camera sensor, and no wonder why there's so many GCam ports for lots of different smartphones.
The pixel camera software is so phenomenal, you can add a artificial, repositionable light source to light up your subject AFTER you take the picture🤯 That blows my mind
I just like stock experiences. Gave up on Samsung phones back in 2017 after struggling with my Galaxy S5 with lag everywhere and battery life of 8 hours while my friend who had an iPhone 6 was fine... And I bet that "game booster" does the exact opposite.
I loved my galaxy s5 and the reason was that you could change out the bateery i always had a fresh battery on hand that way when it died I could change it out. unfortunately they nixed that feature after the s5. haven't had one since the s7
this is an opinion but i think no phone has ever toppled pixel 5 in term of frontal view beauty. look at 2:29 the bezels are so even it looks like there are no bezels at all even if samsung has overall thinner bezels. the uniform bezels are just a thing on its own tbh
Excellent review. I am a huge fan of the stock OS in the Pixel, but the S21 camera features are nice, especially the one with the front and rear camera at the same time. Thanks for doing great work. Loved the jokes. Cheers.
I hope Samsung will improve battery life a bit with future software updates, but for quite similar price (in my country) S21 is FAR superior in most parameters in my opinion.
Pixel 5, price wise. But Samsung Galaxy is nicer looking. But at the end of the day i will stick to my Poco X3. It cost one third the price of the Pixel 5.😊
I haven't seen any phones match Google's recent Pixel range when it comes to astrophotography. Very impressive but no doubt not a feature for everyone. Just me then.
Completely different markets who are going to be buying each of these devices. People are going to buy the Pixel because it's straight from Google. Not because they care about gaming performance. Guarantee that the Pixel likely has better battery life than the Samsung.

Physical fingerprint scanner is more accurate in some case, correct, but what you didn't mention is that moisture and water will render that technology useless, while ultrasonic will work perfectly fine.
I prefer the Google Pixels because of the OS. I hate the "forced" apps that come on the Samsung Phones. Plus, in my opinion, nothing takes a better photo then the Pixel phones do. However, I have the S21 only because I received a better deal when I upgraded this past week. So it's back to Samsung for me.

Coming from a s7 with QHD resolution I can say the difference in crispiness is really noticable. I would take QHD 60hz over 1080p 120hz any day. Hell I would even trade my s21 8g of ram with 4 GB of RAM and an old 765 Snapdragon without 5g if it meant getting QHD back at 60 Hz. You only really notice the 120hz when scrolling In the main menu (which you only really spend 5% of your time on your phone), in most apps 120hz is not that significant, so although 120hz is nice to have i really donc find it to be that significant. I went In the settings to set a 60hz refresh to save on battery life. All the other cuts Samsung made on the s21 I can happily live with but lowering that QHD res was a big mistake in my opinion.
@Benjamin Owuye Jagun yeah I can see how much research you have done. S10 series was never said to have the newer OS update policy that the S20 series and later were said to have. Heck even new A series phones are said to have the same 3 year OS and 4 year security update policy! Maybe you don't know but google too is working on 5 years of OS update policy for its next phones as samsung has already matched them.
My iPhone 11 which is 1.5 yrs old has a Geekbench cpu score of 1334 single core and 2986 dual core. It does say something about the A13 Bionic chip and a lot about exynos chipset. 🙂
I hate this trend of smartphones getting bigger and bigger. Therfore, I really like the relatively compact size of the Pixel 5. Plus its stock Android and front camera punch hole in the left corner (looks better to me). But the S21 has a much better overall design in my opinion and obviously better speakers and far superior performance. Despite the size and higher price, I would be probably going for the S21.
Samsung actually guarantees 4 years of support on Galaxy phones starting with the S10 line. One of the reasons why I bought an S21 (the other being its 600$ price tag during Amazon Prime Day). I'm really loving the phone minus its battery life. I wish Samsung offered the similar form factor (maybe with a little added thickness) but with a 4500mAh battery instead.
My first smartphone was a samsung phone and I'll be frank, it was likely defective as it refused to - Make Calls - Send Messages - Open Apps - Save Settings - Save Photos - Take Photos - Connect to the internet - And more! But it was excellent at - randomly using its recovery feature to jump back months So since like 2013 I swore off samsung but tommorow, I'm replacing my LG V30+ with the Samsung Galaxy S21 seeing how many improvements they've made.
Just got the Samsung Galaxy S21 5g 256gb thanks to your comparison. With a code, got 75 euros discount on this version. Just hope someone will review some of the camera options.
Just bought the S21 5g a few days ago. The camera creates blown out, oversaturated images imo, especially greens. Shotting a raw looking image is impossible. If you want super punched, artificial colors, Samsung has you covered. The video is amazing, but again, overly saturated. Also made people look red. The hubs looked like he had a sunburn no matter what mode, indoor or outdoor. Also, battery drains very quickly. Can't get a full day out of it. I wouldn't recommend it for the price. I'm returning it today. I was really hoping that a phone that costs over $699 should perform better.
This is the first Samsung that has made me interested, But the Samsung OS still is just so shit to me. There are so many redundant features and wasted dev time into things that could easily be scrapped for base android features. I would gladly pay MORE for a Samsung with base android OS. I'm going with the Pixel 5 this time. It's a solid upgrade from my Pixel 3, which really I could go with for another year easily.
I have been a Samsung customers since the S6. When I upgraded my S10 to the S20 I was very disappointed with its latest phone, in particular with the S20 camera. It's really bad! Download the photos on your computer and you will what I mean. I bought a Píxel 5 last week and the camera it's outstanding. Same quality as the ones from my wife's iPhone 12.
According to samsung my note 10+ will get updates for 3 years. So far ive gotten one every month for 13 months!! This goes for all samsung phones as far as i know.
@@damifash758 Not disputing they won't just ain't counting our chicken's before they hatch as Samsung hasn't yet proven they'll adhere to that regiment... The Galaxy GS7 & Edge are the first two Samsung flagships that saw like 4-years worth of security patch support which in-itself was a positive. But yeah, still a ways to go before we know if Samsung's NEW committent actually becomes reality.
This is the comparison I've been waiting to see. As a Pixel 3 user looking to upgrade, I really wasn't impressed with the Pixel 5 when it was released. My guess is is currently on the day to day the Pixel 5 is just fine but the S21 seems more future proof. But I did want to see how the S21 camera compares to the Pixel's. I've been spoiled by my Pixel's camera I think for too long. And thanks to Covid and lockdown life, I started to actual play more graphically intensive games like COD mobile vs more casual games, which I didn't really do before. And honestly my Pixel 3 can struggle at times even with me playing with medium graphics settings. Having also played COD mobile a few times on an S20 Ultra is actually what got me thinking of maybe upgrading my phone, because in most other ways my P3 still performs acceptably. But I noticed those more intensive games are no longer something this phone performs well with. The P5 with the SD 765 chip just doesn't seem like a major upgrade although many say it seems to be fine, I suspect that may not be true within a year. And the other sad thing is Android flagships are mostly all "ginormous" and wanting a pocketable friendly phone limits your options. I really would love to see OnePlus make a Pixel 5 sized phone because I tend to like closer to stock Android. But it seems like Samsung has made improvements on the software side where it's not as big of an issue as it used to be in the past, so I'm really considering this S21.
ugh... i was interested in the Google Pixel 5 but as soon as i see the finger scanner is on the back, i changed my mind. I've had a nightmare with the scanner on the back with the Samsung S8, especially when I put a phone case on.
I have a Pixel 3 and the scanner on the back works perfectly every time. The only annoying thing is getting to it when it is in the car charger/holder. Pressing on the screen looks like a great idea. So although I like the Pixel software, I think the slightly larger screen and front different scanner puts the Samsung slightly ahead.

Therefore, the Pixel 5 wins it for me, especially considering the lower cost, better battery, and, in my opinion, more preferably software.
Great comparison - I'm on a Pixel 3 with the same decisioning.
Watching on my s21plus. Upgraded from s8plus. It's been lovely and great. My best phone by far tho it might not be many ppl's first choice. But I can tell you no one would regret getting a s21 (normal, plus or ultra). Everything is just great and definitely one of the best camera on smartphone out there.

The pixel 5 is actually not made of Aluminium despite what their marketing says. As per JerryRigEverything's Durability test it was revealed to be a mix of Bio-Resin (Thin Plastic coating) and Aluminium layer underneath. So you feel plastic more so then metal.
I’d definitely switch to Samsung if they weren’t trying to be the next Apple so desperately.
YES.... THIS!

Their prices always seem like they're competing with Apple for bragging rights 🤔
I'm definitely with you on that. I cannot stand the fact that they mock Apple when Apple takes away features but then they follow the same trend. The hypocrisy is killing me.

A good phone in the price bracket is the Sony Xperia 5ii, my 4xl is still going strong and I'll be really interested in next year's phones in the 600-700 quid price bracket, there's loads of competition!
Pixel 5 is just not worth it if its only 130 euros cheaper than s21.
3:05 Why is the canner so high? On my Huawei P30 it's much lower.

Just installed Android 12 on my Pixel 5... Love Android 12, that's definitely a benefit of having Pixels... updating to new OS before it even comes out.
Actually curious which phone you would pick? While both are awesome, I don't care much for cameras, instead wanting fantastic battery life and a consistently good software experience, so I like the Pixel. However, I had a Pixel 3 which drove me through the roof with the RAM management.
I will prefer the S21 over the pixel. You can always customize both phone to your choice. SAMSUNG gives you more options and features. However, it will be good if you watch comparison about both phone and play around with both at a local store
@Benjamin Owuye Jagun maybe with Android 12, i may consider a pixel. 💪

The S21 is a no brainer 4 me! Almost everyone is super into stock Android but I love me a feature packed yet useful and well executed OS.
@Rommel the Cat Wrong. I have a Note 10+ and I love it. Fast despite all the features it has. Stock android boring asf.
@Rommel the Cat I use Google Assistant and Bixby is only optional. Plus, I have a 256GB phone. "Bloatware" doesn't bothe me. My phone still blazing fast and i have never seen any ads on my samsung devices.

Is it just me or design of pixel 5 more simple and aesthetic, compared to s21, but software wise , nah
Software on pixel is way better, smoother and won't lag after a year...that heavy skin on Samsung is bad in the long run, cute but performance not good, even with high spec...I like stock android, closest to iOS
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify The performance on Samsung is pretty good. Let's not act like it's bad, it might not be as good as on the Pixel, but still great.
I need yhis wallpaper!!! Any link?
One test not shown is portrait mode with human subjects. I was testing my wife’s 4a vs S21 at the local shop and Pixel crushes in this department!
Pixel's camera software is still top notch, even with a slower processor as the sdm730. No wonder they never changed the camera sensor, and no wonder why there's so many GCam ports for lots of different smartphones.
Can you install the gcam apk on an s21?
@@Honk_Clank nope
G cam is not available to any samsung devices but available on onplus devices
The pixel camera software is so phenomenal, you can add a artificial, repositionable light source to light up your subject AFTER you take the picture🤯 That blows my mind
I just like stock experiences. Gave up on Samsung phones back in 2017 after struggling with my Galaxy S5 with lag everywhere and battery life of 8 hours while my friend who had an iPhone 6 was fine... And I bet that "game booster" does the exact opposite.
I loved my galaxy s5 and the reason was that you could change out the bateery i always had a fresh battery on hand that way when it died I could change it out. unfortunately they nixed that feature after the s5. haven't had one since the s7

best comparison video for these phone that I've seen on all of RUclips! Thank you for sharing.
this is an opinion but i think no phone has ever toppled pixel 5 in term of frontal view beauty. look at 2:29 the bezels are so even it looks like there are no bezels at all even if samsung has overall thinner bezels. the uniform bezels are just a thing on its own tbh

Samsung has a pro mode which can be useful for astrophotography

For most people I would say S21
But as I am a pure Android fan and a sucker for Google's exclusive features I would go for the Pixel 5
I'd take the pixel any day. Smaller phones are hard to come by nowadays and I've got pretty small hands
The S21 is really easy to handle thanks to it being so narrow

Hi mate, love your reviews. Will you be doing a review of the tab7 se?
Samsung too supports 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates for it's flagship and even A series phones.
@Benjamin Owuye Jagun are you dumb or something my dude! Before commenting you should've researched for the same.
your desktop wallpapers are always sick. Links?

So since like 2013 I swore off samsung but tommorow, I'm replacing my LG V30+ with the Samsung Galaxy S21 seeing how many improvements they've made.
This is the first Samsung that has made me interested,
But the Samsung OS still is just so shit to me.
I would happily take a Samsung phone with an Android One program.
