I love how comfortable the Pixel 5 feels in hand. First in line for updates & the return of the fingerprint sensor is also win win for me. It's 1080 Oled screen is pretty neat but compared to the S20 it lacks a little punch. The battery life is insane though. I've failed to kill my Pixel since i bought it. I usually have as much as 50% battery life left by the end of the day. Worst case scenario i still had 26%. All in all it's a great all round phone with some pretty great software.

Pretty good review! Just some feedback, I think the sound comparison was unfair. The Pixel 5 was only presented at the build up (lack of kick so little bass) while the S20 was presented at the drop (full range of sound frequencies). Try picking similar parts of songs that also demonstrates the full range of the speakers!

Great review and production value! I have watched a few comparisons and decided to go with the Samsung. Other things were pointed out such as charging other devices on the back of the Samsung, the faster max charging speeds, the astronomical difference in benchmark speeds, expandable memory, and a comparison gaming on max resolution. Games tested on max resolution would be ridiculously choppy on the pixel and run smooth on the Samsung. Did you find any of these an issue while comparing the phones?

3/4th of a year later, I am considering purchasing one of these phones, depending on this year's Amazon Prime Day sale (and associated sales at the time). I am leaning to the Pixel 5. If Google matched Samsung on 4 years of promised security updates instead of 3 years, it would be Pixel 5 for me, as a no-brainer. I have big hands, but I think a phone that is bigger than 6.2" is just too much in my pockets. I am coming away from a LG G7, which I really like, but the battery and other features are starting to see their age. It also doesn't get any security updates anymore, and I think going to a Pixel is what I really ought to do. Especially for the astrophotography mode in the Pixel.

I already ordered my Pixel 5 Sorta Sage color. These two phones were actually the last two comparisons on my list, but I finally decided on the Pixel 5 for three reasons:
    1) The size. I've had large phones for the past few years and I'm really tired of trying to fit them into my pockets. I'm ready for a smaller form factor and the Pixel 5 is just the right phone size to screen size ratio.
    2) 8GBs RAM on Pixel. As stated in your video, keeping apps running in the background is important to me as well.
    3) OneUI vs Stock Android. Although OneUI offers a lot of features over Stock Android, it also has negatives that I just can't get past - bloatware (I do not like or want to use Samsung's apps, yet Samsung will NOT let you uninstall them) and optimization. Google creates Android and they optimize the OS to work with their hardware, Samsung only adds their OneUI over Stock Android, so their hardware to software optimization doesn't work as well, which is why they need a faster processor for their phone to run as well as Pixels do.
In your speaker comparison, from what I heard, the Pixel 5 actually sounded better. The Samsung speaker sounded like the old days when a speaker was blown out. It would have been a better comparison if you would have played the same section of the music on both devices. You played all tenor on Pixel 5, yet you played base on S20 FE.
The type of "face unlock" that Samsung is offering on he S20 FE is not very secure. Without the sensors required for 3D mapping of your face, 2D face unlock can usually unlock your phone with a photograph. This is why Google didn't include it in the Pixel. Google wants their device to be secure.

And I dunno about other people but I'm not into the stock Android experience as I always loved OneUI's simplicity yet punchiness of the colour saturation. Also since S20 FE has a lot of colour options (though I'm seriously just into the Cloud Navy Colour. 😜). But for me the feature that Samsung's S20 FE has that Pixel doesn't have is a proper DeX (Desktop Experience) mode which can also be done wirelessly... Quite miscellaneous but for my at home job I find it very useful and intuitive. Also S20 FE has the advantage of being able to charge at 25W unlike the Pixel 5/4a 5G technically faster charging and bigger battery at 4500mAh.
Unless you're in the stock Android experience and camera is a big deal for you... Your money is better off with S20 FE 5G (just make sure you get the 5G Snapdragon variant not that yucky Exynos variant).

I also love the pure Google "thing" but considering the 20 FE "5G" (a lil bit more expensive) with a better processor and +2 go RAM, I think I'm gonna go for this one (the SDcard slot is also a big killer game for me).

Fantastic comparison! I'm leaning towards pixel for a few reasons but mainly because of the fingerprint reader. Face ID in every phone (even iphones) is just not there in my opinion compare to fingerprint hardware. There are so many situations where I have to put in extra effort with face ID when I could have just used the fingerprint. Its a small but a constant issue. I have a pixel 2 and iphone 11pro and I prefer the fingerprint on the back of my pixel 2 over face ID. Especially with COVID, face ID is just obnoxious because of the mask wearing. Processor looks good on both. If I want killer performance on a device I'll use my gaming PC or ipad pro. I'm also a huge fan of pixel cameras.

You made the right choice. Personally I decided to get FE over the Pixel 5 and I tiny bit regret my decision, mostly because of the screen problems. FE has jittery scroll and some lag issues which a lot of other FE users have too. Though they have done a good job trying to fix it which has made the display much better now, my first impressions and the initial 6-month usage wasn't as pleasing as I thought it would be.
As for camera, I got a stable working GCam for S20 FE which takes fantastic photos so I don't need to worry about camera quality :D.
Performance is really good but negligible advantage over Pixel unless you're gaming. 865 is a really impressive chip though and can handle multitasking with some really heavy apps without any lag, though I have noticed it tends to get hot.
All in all I love the phone now as compared to before, but if these small problems weren't there, I'd be the happiest customer ever.nd the i

I have been using tons of different OS over the years. My 1st Android phone was Nexus 4 and then it continued to MI, Nokia etc etc. I am now using Samsung A50. I swear I never wanted to use a Samsung phone before One Ui was launched. But One UI is seriously good with deep integration. However, it is in my opinion that if anyone considers to buy a Samsung phone, one must go for its Flagship offerings or phone which are a cross over like FE. Now, I want to experience Pixel.

Fingerprint readers are essential for me. Without one, I can't even consider the phone. Based on my experiences, on screen readers don't perform as well. So while I may like the FE better, I'm gunna have to go with the P5 simply for the reader. I dont' play games and my picture taking is usually of computer equipment, so good enough. Also, I didn't see mention of Always-On Display. I love that feature.

So I ended up picking up the Samsung s20 fe after my Google Pixel 2 XL was paid off through Verizon. I really liked the Pixel 2 XL and was strongly considering the Pixel 5 or even the Pixel 4a 5G when it comes out. Best Buy had the s20 fe for $500 on a 2 yr plan through Verizon and ultimately that was too good of bargain for me to pass up. After three days of using it here are my thoughts.
Overall it's a great phone and definitely a steal in terms of the hardware at the price I got. The screen/picture are great and I've been really happy with the battery life so far. It's fast and smooth and ultimately I'm happy with the purchase and think it's going to be a great phone. I've played some games, watched videos, listened to music, taken several pictures, and done my regular texting and social media. No major problems to report.
Coming off the Pixel 2 XL there are some things I liked better on my old Pixel. First, I miss the rear fingerprint unlock. It's not that the front screen finger sensor doesn't work on the Samsung, but I felt like the back sensor on the Pixel was a little faster and a little more natural to find. Second, I use lots of folders on my home screen and when I would open them on the Pixel the folder basically opens right over the folder icon, but on the Samsung it fills the entire screen when it opens and the app icons are at the top of the screen. With it being a large phone, that makes it a long reach to get to the app you want if you are using the phone one handed. Finally, I don't care for the built in filter on the selfie camera that makes you look kind of "smoothed out". It would be fine if it was optional, but there's no way to turn it off.
None of those things are a deal breaker for me, just things I liked a little better on my old Pixel, but thought I'd share in case any of those things would be a big factor for you.
Finally, I know there are some reports out there about some people having screen response issues with the s20 fe. I was a little worried when I first started using the phone that I may have the same problem as it seemed a little unresponsive when I was first using it. However, under settings and display there is an option to turn on "touch sensitivity" that is intended for use with screen protectors and as soon as I turned that feature on I haven't had any problems.

I also upgraded from pixel 2xl, and also was waiting patiently for pixel 5xl, only to be disappointed. I just got Samsung s20 FE from bestbuy yesterday with Verizon upgrade and the phone is only $350. At about half the price of pixel 5, this is a no brainer choice. Hopefully next year Google comes up with a true flagship pixel 5xl, and stop acting like apple falling mediocre hardware while defending with superior software.

I'm a huge Pixel / Google fan. But as much as I've enjoyed stock Android, two faulty Pixel 4Xls are leading me to go back to the Samsung Galaxy series (big former Note fan).
The only thing from keeping me from going back is... Bixby. Small gripe, I know, but I am a huge user of Google Home etc., and at least on the Notes that I had, Bixby was intrusive even after removing as many (stock, non-rooted) options as I could.
Even replacing the Bixby key w/ camera, Home, etc. I fear the bloatware-esque Samsung environment will hinder my enjoyment. Unless, they've gotten much better in the last couple of years?

i've had my pixel 5 for 3 days and I love it. granted, I came from a 4.5 year old galaxy s7 lol. day 1, i kind of felt a bit disappointed. the pixel just felt... messier compared to samsung's os and organizational features, but I found my way around. day 2 i started falling in absolute love with the phone. great speakers, FAST overall, the look, the feel is amazing. the screen is crisp, the phone runs cool, and android 11 is awesome. my complaints lie mainly within the organization options side of things and, surprisingly, the camera. the camera is fantastic, but I was really disappointed to find out that there's no pro mode like on Samsung phones, and I'm a big photography guy, so that was heartbreaking. that said, I'm stoked for the astro mode! currently looking around for 3rd party pro photography apps but so far they're all a bust for me, to some degree or another.
overall, the pixel 5 is the minimalist's phone. beautiful, sleek, meaty, fast. but the phone's designed around ergonomics and utility, stripping away too many bells and whistles added to most phones today. it's like iPhone of android. the pixel represents simplicity and, honestly, I'm welcoming it more every day.

Looking at the display especially on the game at 11:06 the display on the Pixel 5 seems much better. Also, 6gb of RAM on a Samsung device is criminal, they need 8gb at least and that would be more of a deal-breaker as constantly reloading apps is a bug-bear of mine. The Pixel 5 in the UK is £100 cheaper and we got headphones (worth £230) free so it was a no-brainier for me. The only real bad point on my Pixel 5 are the speakers, they are sub-par if you are use to the Pixel 4XL. Easy win in the UK for the Pixel 5.

There is a detail that seems missing in so much coverage on these phones: the prices are different depending on where you buy them. In Canada the Pixel 5 is the equivalent of roughly 600usd (before taxes). If you put typical comparisons with their corresponding prices in that context (like S20 fe and iPhone 12), the story of the value of the Pixel 5 is entirely different.

If you want something that is super small, basic, and feels nice, I would say go for the pixel 5. I will say though, because the speaker "is the entire screen" means there is a gap under the screen which depending on how hard you tap your phone, you can feel a slight hallow feel. @@maazrushnaiwala1438 - Why does it have the better battery? Because it's a Samsung? Pixel 5 users are reporting back better battery life than the S20 FE and that's thanks to the 765 processor! 😁👍🏼👌🏼 The processor in the FE is the reason why it has worse battery life.

The s20 has a much better battery life
Because the snapdragon 865 is so good at battery obtimization

In certain country(including mine), Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has the Exynos 990 instead of the Snapdragon 865:(((((

So here's my take on the comparison in terms of speed and camera. I love what google is doing with hardware that should not be any close to flagship performance. But at the end of the day its still crippled by the hardware on it to some extent. This is why I feel like samsung is better value right now. But I can't wait for future pixel devices once the company has matured and realised what the consumers want. Every company goes through this phase and samsung has years of market know how. I bet the pixel 6 will be a significant improvement even if they change the camera hardware and a slightly better processor. Like the snapdragon 860 or 870

I got the s20 Fe. One issue. I use nova. Hate one ui because I can't vertically scroll the app drawer. Maybe minor for you but bugs me. So every morning the phone forgets that nova is the default launcher and tries to go back to one ui. Have to go through a routine of telling the phone novas is default, then suspend one ui. If I funny suspend one ui it will try to go back to one ui a couple more times before settling down. Why? No fixes from the internet work.
