Well done Janek and Honza, looks like a nice city. I have actually been there, we cycled along the Danube a few years ago. Unfortunately the hotel that was booked for us was on the outskirts of Linz and we were too tired to walk into the centre.

Oh by the way the "k. u. k" front of Austrian businesses means "Kaiserliche und Königliche" and has the meaning that they were approved to deliver to court of the Emperor - a special honor at that time. The official tourism commercial for Linz basically says, "We are oldschool, we are racist, we are unfriendly, but there's some cool stuff here and there, so if you wanna check us out, go for it. If not, who cares." But honestly, it kinda works. The only thing tourists are usually a little bit shocked about is when they realise that pretty much every building in the inner city turns into a pub at night and that the streets that seemed so peaceful to them during the day are now filled with tons of singing drunk people.
I visited some distant relatives in Linz a few years ago. Known as an industrial city with a connection to some very unsavory characters from recent history, I was surprised by the lovely old town (largely reconstructed after WWII), the modern architecture, the nearby mountains, and the generally green and pleasant atmosphere. I very much enjoyed my stay.

Was in Linz last week, tbh it's still kind of boring, good for a day or two, after that starts getting boring, but I've been there a couple of times before since have some family there, so not sure if valid. Vienna is way more interesting to visit, Salzburg I am unsure, Salzburg has the castle and some surroundings that are nice, but again, small town that you get bored of after a day or two. Museums and stuff start getting way more important then, and Linz does have a couple of interesting ones, but doesn't really compare to most of the ones in Vienna. I'd pick Vienna > Graz > Salzburg, then probably Innsbruck, etc., all depending on season as well and what interests one.

Linz is the birthplace of Adolph Hitler -- this was his home town. My ex grew up in Linz 50 years ago. Her grandfather was a farmer who had been in WW2. His farm went down to the water, and after the war he sold it and a hotel was built there. WW2 history wasn't taught much in school in the 1970s, and adults did not discuss the war. One of her teachers did teach it, but that was rare and frowned upon. She asked her grandfather if he was afraid of anything. He said he was afraid of death, because he knew he was going to hell.

If you liked Linz, you should also do Graz. Somewhat larger, maybe a bit more touristy, but has a similar small-ish town vibe if you ask me, without sacrificing your typical large-city perks too much.
Yeah, Graz is really great, it's much more beautiful than Linz.
Definitely need to put Linz on my list. Not a fan of moving platforms like at Hohenrausch but I would force myself to go to the tower because of YOLO.
Nah its a boring industry city…
My Mother was born in Linz and lived briefly in Enns and I am looking forward to seeing this area, hopefully soon! If I can make it work out somehow, I would even consider living here or at least nearby.
Follow up... I did get to see Linz! I loved this city and it is very much worth visiting. I am already planning my next visit, hopefully next year. This is one of my candidate cities to possibly move to in the future. Since my last post, I was granted Austrian citizenship so now it is a real possibility for me to make Austria my new home!
Thanks for this video. I wanted to visit Linz last May, but obviously couldn't. You've provided some great additional tips.
"I am a traveler, all others are tourists." How often you can hear that....
Linz tourism presentation : 1st thing we're famous for : Do Not Mention That Ever. Never.
Everybody comes from somewhere.
Well done Janek and Honza, looks like a nice city. I have actually been there, we cycled along the Danube a few years ago. Unfortunately the hotel that was booked for us was on the outskirts of Linz and we were too tired to walk into the centre.
Lol fascinating
I visited Linz 3 years ago, it's nice but not a great deal to do there. Did you see Walter the blind singer with his keyboard?
He is the Elton John of Linz. Phatastic voice and very nice human being!
I’ve been to Linz recently, unfortunately on Sunday, when most of the shops and restaurants are closed. I still managed to find an opened restaurant and the trip turned out to be really nice, but I definitely recommend going to Linz some other day (plus Höhenrausch is permanently closed).
I like Linz not touristy like salzburg but salzburg regoin is amazing.
Oh by the way the "k. u. k" front of Austrian businesses means "Kaiserliche und Königliche" and has the meaning that they were approved to deliver to court of the Emperor - a special honor at that time. These times it is only meaning that that business has a long tradition of being in business - at least more that 100 years - and had the special honor that the Emperor bought regularly stuff from them.

Pretty shocked by the LED ads on the cathedral tbh, I find that extremely disrespectful
As far as I know they are from sponsors for the renovation for the church. I assume they will only be there for the duration of the works
You have the choice: Ads of sponsors to renovate the church or let the church fall apart. Sad but true.
@@mariosphere Third option: renovate it with public funds and private donations. The catholic church built Austria, this is the least Austria can do for its own history.
Great video! James Bond is MI6, if he was MI5 they wouldn't go to all those stunning locations, as they deal with UK counterintelligence... But it does look like the real life MI6 building.
If you want to be pedantic - it's not MI6, which is something else entirely. The official title is Secret Intelligence Service, often abbreviated to SIS.
@@farmersteve129 while technically correct, "MI6" is used far more than "SIS" in both the films and common parlance, to the extent that the first words on the SIS's own website are: "We are SIS - the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service - also known as MI6"
My guess is that the guys also watched the TV series Professionals (very popular in CZ) and mixed up MI6 with CI5. Wouldn't be the first.
The first of your videos I've seen-- nice job! The Linz title caught my eye-- I passed through on a bike ride two summers ago. I barely saw any of the city, but you've given me a reason to go back. Thanks-- will subscribe now :)
Thanks for your great videos ,
After seeing this one we decided to have a 4 day stopover staying near Linz in May.
I hitchhiked Europe and got to Linz by mistake... Police wouldn't let me play my instrument to collect money for food/sleep and I was in kind of bad shape. Till I met some really nice people who hosted me and from there I got to know the best people on my trip to Vienna.
Austria is still special for me because of my experiences in Linz.
Love the place even tough it is very untouristic place to visited.
@Dany Henriquez your comment screams bootlicker.
It is neither polite nor called for.
@Dany Henriquez I was in my twenties and that was part of the experience - hitchhiking and playing music, trusting good people along the way. It was intense and something I don't think I'll do again. But I'm sure a person like you will never experience something so spontaneous and exciting... just saying
You would have to get a permit from the city hall, but i don't know how easy that would be...
Literally everyone in Linz: We don't want tourists here"
Linz Tourism Board: Am I a joke to you?
maybe the job of Linz Tourism Board is to prevent tourism
@@BernhardEhm well the city isn't exactly boarded up to prevent entry. By that token they're probably not doing that great of a job.
The official tourism commercial for Linz basically says, "We are oldschool, we are racist, we are unfriendly, but there's some cool stuff here and there, so if you wanna check us out, go for it. If not, who cares."
But honestly, it kinda works. The only thing tourists are usually a little bit shocked about is when they realise that pretty much every building in the inner city turns into a pub at night and that the streets that seemed so peaceful to them during the day are now filled with tons of singing drunk people.
3:15 Wait, so the Linz cathedral is on the highest altitude in Austria out of all cathedrals? Cause I kinda doubt that.. 🤔🤔
We love the Saturday markets, too! Thanks for turning us onto the Blesi Trhy Praha market when we ran into you! Safe travels!
I very much enjoyed my stay.
why any off your old videos are not there anymore?
For a city that doesn't want tourists they have more touristy sites then the Langkawi island in Malaysia
Come to Wels next time, smaller, wayy prettier in my opinion that Linz, many nice places to visit.
A Czech kid teaching you German, in Austria, in English. Amazing.
Also, don't knock those €5 Rolex watches. I have one which I paid about £20 for in Bali some years ago. When it needed a battery the jeweler told me that the mechanism was a budget Seiko product which he has to pay £20 for. OK, so it's a fake, nothing works except for the time/date but it keeps excellent time. You should buy that watch
I'd pick Vienna > Graz > Salzburg, then probably Innsbruck, etc., all depending on season as well and what interests one.
glad to see your videos are starting to get good again!
Höhenrausch is closed for good. It is not possible to visit this any more
Linz is the city, where i went to school and working place for over three decades now, but from time to time, i forget how much has this city to offer :-)
This is a beautiful city :-) Btw the video is amazing and prooooooost!!!
Don't get it....Locals say they don't want tourists. Honest Guide makes a video which will attract tourists :D
I think the idea is that they don't want people who just turn up and go for all the obvious tourist attractions and instead go and discover new things and hidden gems like local cafes etc. 9:58
Sure, but i think this channel generally attracts more of the "explore for yourself and enjoy more" crowd than the average "i've spent a bunch of money to get here now where are my tourist attractions and benefits" that a lot of touristy destinations have. I kinda get it 🤷🏻♂️
@@Bean_8000 But both of them are tourists... So maybe this channel should have said that they don't want a specific kind of tourists.
I like the billboards on the church, very 21st century
Bass! (6:53), probably a Sadowsky PJ Bass. Probably the original strings. Tuners very lightly used.
i cannot believe that they were so close to my hometown Wels which is 20km next to linz and the 9th largest city in Austria!
i love this channel and jan and honza!! visit wels one day 😂
Linz is the birthplace of Adolph Hitler -- this was his home town.
Hitler was born in Braunaun, went to School in Lambach and spent his youth in Linz. Stop spreading BS.
there is a difference between how tall the church is and how high it is. e.g. Mount Everest or Mount Cimborazo are the highest mountains. Mauna Kea is the tallest.
Awesome video!! Love the way you present it.
I went to Linz way back in 2007! We stayed overnight when we drove from Salzburg to Vienna :D :D :D
Important notice for future tourists and visitors to Linz:
The Höhenrausch is shut down and will be dismantled the next time.

We’re thinking of a stopover at Linz after Cesky Krumlov before catching a train to Vienna in the summer time. Would be good if you can do a Honest Guide video on Cesky Krumlov too!😅
they put numbers on parking spaces in parking garages over there?
Höhenrausch unfortunately was temporary, only. Well, for more than 10 years, but still. That story regarding the cathedral is one that Linz people never stop shoving into Viennese people's faces...
Can you tell us when does the flea market starts in the morning?

Thank you for another great video. Can I suggest you make a video about Krakow? And maybe even Lviv (the best city in Ukraine).
Would love to know more about cities in the Ukraine only visited Kiev and loved it.
@@jacobriverson3807 excuse me, but it's Ukraine. Not «the Ukraine». And Kyiv is the capital and the biggest city although it's not the best in Ukraine. I'd recommend visiting Lviv and the nearby Carpathian mountains. Beautiful architecture and great cuisine in Lviv. It's known as the cultural capital of Ukraine. Outstanding nature in the Carpathians is hugely recommended. Also Odesa which is a city by the sea. In Odesa you can enjoy local beaches, drink local wine, eat local seafood, fish, oysters, great cuisine in general.
