The four pillars of urban contemporary jazz Stix Hooper, Wilton Felder, Wayne Henderson and Joe Sample. Rare find video to see all sharing the same stage. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is the year 1973. North America. I was 12 years young. I remember this time very well. This music is a Reminder of that time. Had a Detroit Free Press Paper Route. Playing the Acoustic and Electric Guitar. Getting ready to go into high School. Converted to Electric and the upright double Bass in my mid 20's. Far out Man. Good O" 70's. This was one of my favorite Jazz Bands. Learned a lot of dynamics and phrasing and soloing listening to Larry Carlton. And how the other musicians would spin off each other. Great music times in the 1970's. RIH Joe Sample, RIH Wilton Fielder, RIH Wayne Henderson.
You should check out the band Stuff aswel. My favorite band from around the same time. The best studio musicians collected in that band. Steve Gadd, Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Gordon Edwards and Chris Parker. Top of the top.
Thank you Thank you. Shown once on American television probably at 3 o clock in the morning. So I never saw it or heard til now. These guys are the best.
This is a gem! Big fan of them from the 70s. The 2nd Crusade album is full of songs that all mix soul, jazz, funk and a super feel-good groove. The way Wilton and Wayne could blend their sounds was magic. Their solos were from the heart. It was always about the music and never about trying to impress with technique.
Damn i miss the 70's!!! Regarding the opening sequence here the Brotha's were so smooth & articulate back then I dont know what the fuck happened??? Ever since the 80's & 90's Cats talk like they got marbles in their mouths & sound so uneducated
@@jeffreywestervelt2671 It must have been just before Pops when they were still using different bassists for live work. Didn't Wilton record bass until that time (after they went electric)?
Wilton played bass on much of the studio stuff and used Max Bennett (not sure who he is) did live stuff up until Pop’s joined. That’s according to an interview with Wilton I listened to the other day (RUclips interview with Wilton Felder). But according a thread on TalkBass pop’s was in the band from 71-79. So… 🤷♂️
@@jeffreywestervelt2671 Max was a studio guy from the 60's who did lots of electric sessions during the 70's. He was the bassist for the LA Express (played with Joni Mitchell, etc.). This show from Seattle is why I'm pretty sure this was Luther. He is announced during the show. It could be that he just made one tour or something. Watching this video again... I'm positive it's him. ruclips.net/video/gQGR9BgPiKg/видео.html

Yay!!! Great! Sadly, only Stix and Larry are still with us. RIP Crusaders, and thanks for the music.
James Earl Jones introducing The Crusaders is a very nice touch!
Hand in a glove. All masters of their craft.

I'm the same age. I discovered this band when I was in HS ('75-'79). I bought The 2nd Crusade and wore that vinyl out!
In fifty years of witnessing live music they were by far The Best Live band I have ever seen.
Lucky you

A very rare video of Wilton Felder playing on a Henri Selmer Paris MKVI tenor sax !!! TOO NICE !!!
Barbara Tuffelmire, you know stuff that's just lit me up! Respect and love to you 💛✨
Love the intro by JeJ Darth Vador himself
Wayne Henderson on a King 3b here!
Their two double albums and Lighthouse '69 were my favorites. I can't count the number of times I've listened to those.
James Earl Jones intro. Great video.

I could watch another 4 or 5 hours of this ... man, they had a nice feel!
I heard this guys (geniuses)met in high-school!!! They go way back!! Could not be any tighter
Beautiful ❤️🎵🎶🎵🎤 I always loved how Wanye Henderson play the trombone like it's a trumpet
He's one of my favorite trombone players. Always melodic.
Impressive introduction
James Earl Jones
Loved the sounds of those 2 frontmen together.
SO HISTORIC!
happy birthday, Stix Hooper!!!!
Darth Vader himself giving a lecture on musical forms.
Wilton Felder on the sax! Bruh is a MONSTER on the bass too. Check him on Jackson 5 “ABC” and also I Want You Back…crazy!!!
Yep! He was primarily a sax player, but then he turned around and laid down some of the greatest bass lines ever.
Thank you for posting. Been looking for this. Black Omnibus.
Great thank you
Real musicians...lost art these days😥
Joe Sample caught my ear years ago, i get it
Thanks so much for this, Orangefunk. Very grateful.
Scratch is a much loved live album of those early years. Wayne Henderson brought much to the band.
This is some good shieeet ......🎶🎶 🎧......👍
I just wish the song was longer!
So good! Saw then in the UK in 1984. Is that James Earle Jones presenting?
Yes it is!

I think they all died the same year, 2015.
"Sweet Revival"
THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER
♪Sweet Revival
Who's the host of this program? Sounds like James Earl Jones.
That's him
Does anyone know the name of this tune? I haven't spent enough time discovering the Crusaders!
It’s called Sweet Revival off the Crusaders 1 album 🎶
Why do you think he is called stix ???
... because "Nesbert" doesn't sound as cool when your selling jazz records!
(He was actually credited as 'sticks' on some of their earliest LP's.)
What sort of electric piano is Joe playing? Not and Fender or Wurlitzer?
Looks like a Wurlitzer 145 from the mid-1960s…
@@keithwilkinson9119Or maybe a Wurlitzer 120?
Como se llama esa cancion??
According to other comments: “Sweet Revival”. Cool sound.
Jesus saves
I'm pretty much positive this is actually Luther Hughes on bass.
I was wondering that as well. Was Pops nit in the band at that point? He was in 73 for sure
