Those southern... I've took it from my dad and listen and listen even i was already in heavy metal and from there... Chain reaction than everything. Wilson pickett, the temptations GOD BLESS THE CRUSADERS!!!!!!
This for me was the signature jam for Joe and Larry. This jam really put them on the map. I mean they were smoking these notes. Listen to that nasty bass line. Wow!!!!
Pops Popwell was a beast. The only bass player that really stood toe to toe with the rest of the band... unless you count Wilton Felder, who played bass for the Jackson Five.
its a great performance, and live is 'the ticket', but the recorded guitar solo is one of the best, imo, ever - phrasing, execution, and good ol' stink - The album is Those Southern Knights - but Crusaders 1, Chain Reaction, Southern Comfort, and Free As the Wind - all Great! Changed my listening direction big time..in 1976
The tempo speeds up about 10 BPM at the beginning and end of the song, but that's the beauty of live music. Robert is wonderful. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is rare in Japanese live music, for fear of ruining it. Felder, who is also the bassist, was not happy and tried to return to the verse in the middle of the bass solo, Sample was playing without caring, Hooper was sweating, and Carlton seemed to be enjoying himself. Each is interesting in there own way.
I saw The Crusaders twice and Larry Carlton had already left. They were still great. I saw Larry in the early 90's with his band at the Newport Jazz Festival in Newport RI Terry Kath of Chicago is my all-time favorite guitarist. After watching and listening to Larry a lot lately, he's definitely in my top 5. I never realized he did many great licks for Steely Dan session work along with Joe Sample. Wish they were still around to have some kind of reunion. But as they say, "That's Life!"
The white guitarist reminds me of Peter Frampton&since this song was from 1976, it was the same time of Frampton playing&touring as well! The Crusaders are like the way the Rolling Stones were They have been around forever! I love Joe Sample's songs as well!!!!
I played on a few demos with Pops in Atlanta about 74-75 before he got this gig. These guys were at their peak in the mid 70's when Robert Popwell was there along with Larry Carlton. They all look pretty coked up here though. No wonder the song is so fast.
Love the Rhodes piano solo from the composer of this great song. Rest in peace Joe Sample.
larry carlton just tears that guitar apart. this is some pinnacle playing here. unreal.
Funny how he NEVER. EVER. EVER. mentions Boogie amps anymore- and that was the biggest part of his great tone.
Better than Lee Ritenour
@@boogierandy7547 His dumble tone is better tho
Those southern... I've took it from my dad and listen and listen even i was already in heavy metal and from there... Chain reaction than everything. Wilson pickett, the temptations GOD BLESS THE CRUSADERS!!!!!!
Tightest band I ever saw live, absolute mastery musically speaking.
It's call performing young people , Breathe in the smell of artistry - Peace ! ! ! 👏 👤 .
First album I ever bought for SPIRAL. I was 14 and took it everywhere! still my fav band...Larry is a Beast!!
This for me was the signature jam for Joe and Larry. This jam really put them on the map. I mean they were smoking these notes. Listen to that nasty bass line. Wow!!!!
Incredible performance! This needs way more views!
Beautiful! Nobody could touch the Crusaders at that time! They are GROOVING!!!
I saw them when this album hit..
Unforgettable!
WHY DO I HAVE TO BE SO DAMN YOUNG?
The vibes are on overload here man......and holy fuck the guitar and bass solo was brilliant!!
スパイラルのライブは初めて見た!Thank You!
The Crusaders were in the zone. Took funky jazz to another level with all geniuses playing down the licks. The original and revised.
Saw them when I was a freshman at Western Kentucky University 1978. Unbelievable
Pops Popwell was a beast. The only bass player that really stood toe to toe with the rest of the band... unless you count Wilton Felder, who played bass for the Jackson Five.
Joe Sample is very reminiscent of his style of playing on his "Rhodes" Minoru Mukaya from the Japanese jazz fusion group Casiopea
Rest In Beats, Joe Sample, Wilton Fielder, Wayne Henderson, and Robert 'Pops' Popwell.
Larry Carltonはどうした?
@@koisan5505多分Rest in beatsは Rest in peace の事で亡くなった方だけ挙げてるんだと思いますよ。ラリーカールトンは存命です。
Folks talk of his work with the Dan.. I always redirect them here. Larry is spectacular
Yup and fourplay even.
"Those Southern Knights" brought me here.. keep on, keep that same ole feeling!😊
These guys are really total amazing. Great to see and hear them in 1975!
Larry Carlton, king of the 335
Mind ***blown***!! What a band.
GLAD WE HAVE TAPE THIS WILL NOT BE MADE AGAIN RIP
Stixx Hooper is doing 100mph in a 35 mph zone...lol
"Cocaine's a helluva drug"
THE MOST AWESOME SONG EVER!!!! IN YOUR HONOR JAYBIRD!

I agree cause everyone cites "Kid Charlamagne" as his holy grail---but I hold the recorded solo from "Those Southern Knights" up to it
Whoa, did the guys have a flight to catch or something, that's flippin' fast!
It started fast and ended even faster.
This isn't the same song without Wayne Henderson. I saw them play it before he left the group. Blew me out of the water.
R.I.J (REST IN JAZZ) Wilton Felder.
Pops Popwell is payed by notes
What a bass player
very fast version but Pops and Larry made it
These are Musicians!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!

Man… that groove! 🖤🎶
I was 15 when I saw The Crusaders on that very same tour, it was a couple of weeks later in "Le Castellet" (France) - much thanks for posting!
When good vibrations coming back to the radio and tv ...
The guitarist is Larry Carlton who was a member of the Crusaders back then. The song was originally released in 1974 on the album Southern Knights.
1975-76 but a still a great album!!!
The great Larry Carlton and Joe Sample and Bassist Robert Pops Popwell. Sitx Hooper on Drums. The late Wilton fielder Tenor Sax.
phénoménal bassist
I keep on comingback to this video and also "Put t where yu want it" as played in Zaire.
I never find the right words. It's just my bag.

I think this solo is masterpiece of Mr.335.
These cats playing exactly what you hear on the recording, each player efficient on their instrument.
Holy sh!t! Didn’t know live version out here…..
Vim pelo Ed Motta
incredible talent...funny how Larry can go from 1MPH (Sleepwalker} to 1000MPH here.....Maybe they were late for the return flight home
Smokin! 👌🏻🕶✌🏻

Silence in the great Bass Player.
Almost too good for words!

Larry's solo just lke the albums version wich no one else can play beautifull
But didn't do the ending, that I still turn the volume up to hear every drop. Carlton's ending fades out like🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Why is most of the bass solo cut out of this?

Stix is the one pushing. Carlton is claimed to never have done drugs, didn't get into the drug thing in the 70's.
yeah you right branwerks, Stix is pushing that tempo like crazy !!!
Cool as hell!^..^
Robert Popwell
Larry, you are god !!
Ain't nobody play it better 😇

Stix Hooper, I hear ya bro.
