I loved the Neon Ballroom period when I was 11 and was too young to love Diorama... 20 years later, I bought the T-Shirt and froth over the musical brilliance like it was just released and I'm 14 again, but with more intelligent taste! Such a treat indeed!! Young Modern is also gaining plays rapidly...
@@Serockosawhen i was 17 i just knew Miss You Love (became one of my favorite songs then). Im 35 now and since august 2023, i listen to their songs especially when im in the office.
Quote from Billy Corgan: “In the beginning, I just viewed them as a cute teen band riding the grunge wave, then they seemed to ‘go away’ for awhile, so when I heard that they were ‘all grown up,’ I didn’t think much of it, but when I came across what they were doing, I was struck by the brilliance of it, and the honesty in it, and realized how wrong I’d been. Who wouldn’t, at such a young age, get caught up in what’s going on around you, because we all assume our influences. Daniel [Johns] had grown out of those influences and become his own man, a very special butterfly with so much to offer, and I’ve been a fan ever since.” “Silverchair’s mature work evokes for me the best of highly melodic, emotional music with a true understanding of rock grandeur…those are rare forces, not very often put together.” “There is only one Daniel [Johns]. He has a fragile perspective and sensitivity that he brings when he puts all the pieces together, and has the voice to evoke the sophistication of his feelings. He is a rare bird, to be treasured!”
That was such a bad rap on early Silverchair. You had all these 30-year-old guys cashing in singing about 'teen angst.' The only people who should be singing about teen angst are teenagers. So Daniel was always the most real and the most honest of them all. And when he wasn't a teenager anymore, he stopped acting like one. But all Billy Corgan had to do was hear them live in 1996, he didn't have to wait until Diorama to get it. Daniel was always the real thing, from the very beginning.
This whole album is brilliant. It's nuts looking back on Silverchair in retrospect. The kid that wrote Frogstomp grew up and wrote Diorama just a few years later. Hell, even through Young Modern. The band went through so much growth musically, it's really interesting going back and revisiting their catalog. Daniel's still going at it too. His new stuff isn't my cup of tea, but I can still respect him as an artist and musician for continuing to grow/experiment and make the music he wants to make, even if he does upset a few fans along the way. That's the way he's always done it. Lots of the artists and bands I was listening to as a kid, if they're even still around today, tend to still write the same exact stuff they were making 20 years ago (Blink 182 anyone?) I couldn't imagine what it would be like if Daniel had only written grunge the entire span of Silverchair. I like the evolution of the band that we actually got.
THANK YOU. I hate when everyone complains about how they "sold out" when they came out with Straight Lines and how they should have stuck to grunge. I prefer their older stuff too but they would have really sold out if they just did what they knew their fans would love. But no, they did what THEY wanted to because it's THEIR art, we just get the privilege of enjoying it. Too many people take that for granted.
Neon Ballroom/Diorama is what they should have kept doing, most of young modern I can't stand. Diorama in particular is outstanding. I rave at ppl about this album constantly.

My grandfather passed away from Cancer in 2003 and this was the first song I heard when I entered his home. He survived long enough for my older brother and I to arrive and was gone 2 days later. But I just think he missed my grandmother too much once she passed and we feel he kept his Cancer from us for a while, so when I listen to this song I both miss him but also think of the peace he must have felt knowing he would be leaving his hard times behind and rejoining Nanny. Also when I listen to this song I'm reminded that life is short, regardless of the troubles you're facing just keep on keeping on.
I’m so sorry. But I’m glad that you find this music as a healing step. I believe that this is what music , good music, is for. I too think about my loved one and yeah , inspires me to go on. Best of luck to you ♥️🤘🏻♥️

For anyone who's got the diorama album.... listen to After all these years (which is the last song on the album), then wait 5 or so minutes and there's another small piano piece that gets played right at the end. kind of like a hidden track.

This is him getting over his anorexia, anger, and so much more that he was dealing with. After watching a few documentaries on them it was obvious he went through a lot. +taylor At first I thought the same as everybody else that how silverchair could change its sound that way but I didn't know how was Daniel's life, every album reflects his life exactly it happened at the moment, you can notice in every video and Diorama is the positive change on Daniel's life. I think that he forgives himself in this song and he also looks radiant and happy. Every album is great if you know how's the life of the person who writes it, in this case Daniel, at the end is the expression of a musician if we like or not is because we identify with it. If someone doesn't like Diorama he/she should go to the start of silverchair and they'll understand why Daniel wrote those lyrics, that's what happened to me
I loved something about all of their albums - people are so funny about bands who’ve been around for a long time. I loved this album because it WAS different ;)
I had the same affliction as Daniel Johns at the same time. Everybody knew from "Ana's Song" onwards what the deal was. I remember this song coming out & thinking yep there IS a way out of this. Years later in sitting here, my parents & siblings are all gone... and this song allowed me to cry. About all of it. Finally. After all these years.. catharsis ❤
I have thought, in retrospect, that Straight Lines should have been released before Diorama. That album, and this song in particular, were that perfect goodbye for silverchair.
I love this song, beautiful, it's what got me really liking Daniel Johns and it's probably his (and Silverchair's) best song. I don't know why it didn't really make it in the charts but I guess it was a bit out there. So unique.
this is so amazingly beautiful, both the song, the video, and Daniel. It is especially poignant for people like me who have grown up with silverchair for the last 15 years, and have suffered, and watched Daniel suffer extreme emotional distress. But after all these years we're better off now. Can never thank Daniel enough for his beautiful words and music, for years it was the one thing I had to cling on to, & without that one thing to hold on to, I would probably already be dead, or worse.
I was four years old when this song came out. I still remember watching this on Video Hits and how I used to pretend the car at 3:03 was one of my Hot Wheels. 20 years later, I can't ever hear this song without bursting into tears. Still as beautiful as it was the day it was released.
so good it brings tears to my eyes.... after all these years.... wish i could forget but some thing are burnt in to our minds.... i hope Daniel has found some peace.... i'm still looking..
Can't believe people think this album is trash.. It's a fuckin' masterpiece.

Vi meu comentário de 10 anos atrás nesse clipe e continuo ouvindo 😍😍😍

I love this song, beautiful, it's what got me really liking Daniel Johns and it's probably his (and Silverchair's) best song. I don't know why it didn't really make it in the charts but I guess it was a bit out there. So unique.
This came out when my dad died. Beautiful song.
Wonderful song from a fantastic album.
Maravilhosa essa musica 💝🇧🇷
I can't believe this video was published in 2010 and only have 380k views...wow...cmon guys this is masterpiece...
This song bring me back to my child hood.
this is so amazingly beautiful, both the song, the video, and Daniel.
How did I miss this song? Just brilliant!!!
their magnum opus on their masterpiece album, absolutely incredible track
so good it brings tears to my eyes.... after all these years.... wish i could forget but some thing are burnt in to our minds.... i hope Daniel has found some peace.... i'm still looking..
