    The dark side of engine maintenance on a boat. Kudos to Travis!! ~tyfs~ 🐠🐡

    I do the same thing Travis with bolts when I’m working on things. I have a stack of cardboard cake boards and a box of sharpies for when I do motor swaps. I can come back to a project a month later and have no problem locating the correct bolts. I also take a video of the entire motor with my phone. It’s great for when you can’t think because you’re exhausted and hot. Look at the video and see how it’s supposed to fit.

    While working on various car engines over the years I have found many bolts that you have to make a choice, you can either see them or touch them but you cannot do both at the same time.

    Nice you can do that level of repair, even though it was uncomfortable and difficult it was worth it, not only did you avoid paying a significant charge for a service technician you know it was done correctly and with genuine parts! Good for you, I am in my 70’s and a retired engineer who grew up on a farm in Alberta , I worked of 5 continents and we lived on 3 of them in the 40 years of work ,I still do most of the mechanical maintenance on our vehicles, lawn tractor and small engines. We used to sail and have had several motor boats nearly all the maintenance was done by myself .

This happened just yesterday. New bushing on the way. Wish me luck everybody. God Bless you guys and y'all stay safe on your travels.

    Tip on the Hey bikes.. The extra weight does make a difference on distance my wife is much lighter than myself so on long rides we swap batteries out half way and gives us more range on mine..

    btw there are Lithium Batteries that are rated for starting uses up to 1000CCA. Maybe nothing you need at this moment but a good lithium battery can last 10+ years vs an AGM or Lead Acid battery.

    Use on your next bolt on socket window seal tape just rip off a little then put on bolt! So it doesn’t fall out duck tape works but other is better! Nice work hopefully out of the hurricane belt now! 😊 sale up to Martha’s Vineyard come meet ya for a drink!

    great job on the repair, so those bikes need to registered and insured in Canada because the go faster than 32km/h just a heads up.

    • @SailingJibsea
      @SailingJibsea  7 месяцев назад +1

      Interesting. Maybe that’s why there was a cap set at PAS level 5 (32km/hr). We had to go into the settings to allow the bike to reach PAS level 9 that reaches a max of 45km/hr

    Good job. If that were my boat, any way possible, I’d be cutting an access door on the side you were working on. I hate is when its so difficult to reach places like that. I’ve cut doors out on other boats.

      @@stevemarshall8268 You are so right. And engineers that design engines should have to work as mechanics fixing them! The best boat I ever had, also had a WALK IN engine ROOM. Full standing head room once inside. Full 360 degree access. It was a Cal ll-46. Engine room had a 6’ work bench with drill press and a vice! 270 gal of fuel wasn’t hard to take either. @@SailingJibsea Yup, in FL electric bikes are considered bikes and you can ride them on the sidewalk! Or the street. E scooters only in the road! It's nuts here. Now when driving you got to watch for an e bike at 30 mph on the sidewalk before you make a turn. I'm surprised more people aren't dieing.

    I have to wonder why the engine designer felt that that mechanism had to be in the oil gallery at all?

    • @1crustyoldmsgtretired870
      @1crustyoldmsgtretired870 6 месяцев назад +1

      It's the governor assembly for the fuel injection pump. It's full of whirling mechanical bits that need lubrication. I believe the oil system for the pump is not part of the rest of the engine's oil system. On old Mercedes diesels, this gets changed when you change the engine oil.
