Keto Beverages: Drink this NOT that on Keto- Thomas DeLauer… Drink this, not that, the keto edition. What I've done is I've taken the top most common drinks that people talk about when they're on the ketogenic diet and I've broken them down as to whether they're good or bad and if they're bad, I'm giving you a solution, I'm giving you an alternative. The whole purpose of this video is not to say that what you're drinking is totally bad, it's to give you a better solution, and it's not to ruin your life or to make you miserable, it's literally to help you get better results, that's all there is to it.
All right, so the first thing I want to talk about it is pea protein versus whey protein. A lot of people consume whey protein when they're on the ketogenic diet because it doesn't have a lot of carbohydrates and in fact sometimes there's only one or zero grams of carbohydrates which would lead people to believe that it's a perfect thing to consume when you're on keto. Okay, I'm not anti whey protein, so let me get that out there first and foremost. If you consume a little bit of whey protein while you're on a keto diet, I'm not saying it's going to totally kick you out of keto, I'm not saying it's going to ruin everything, I'm just saying that you might want to consider using pea protein instead and here's why. Whey protein elicits an insulin spike. The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism actually published a study that found that a little bit of whey protein elicited a higher insulin spike than white bread, like literally. White bread is as high glycemic as you can get. What happens is the whey protein absorbs so fast and it has so much leucine in it that it actually spikes your insulin which could very well kick you out of keto for a short amount of time.
Next up, and I think a lot of you are going to like this, you guys know by now that I am a huge caffeine fan, okay? I love my coffee but I have to say if it was between cold brew and regular, I would always go with cold brew. A lot of people drink their coffee, their regular coffee. The problem is that when you actually brew coffee and when you go through that process, it leeches a lot of the toxins out. Even if it's organic, you're still getting a lot of the pesticides. The first time those coffee beans are actually rinsed after they've gone through a roasting process and the whole harvesting process is literally when they're brewing in your hot water. So you're getting all of that and you're getting the acid, which is really, really just tough on the body, but the benefit to cold brew, instead of focusing on the negatives of the coffee here, the benefit to the cold brew is that the acid doesn't leech in. So it makes it a lot smoother, that's why it's way, way smoother, that's why it has a more powerful earthy taste because you're actually tasting the coffee versus the acid, but it has a higher caffeine content, and it's a more bioactive caffeine. It's not like just caffeine anhydrous like taking a caffeine supplement. It's good quality caffeine along with polyphenols that you're getting with the coffee.
So cold brew whenever possible. That is like my pre-workout, straight up, flat cold brew with nothing else added to it. Go for that whenever possible. Again, regular is not bad, and I know when it starts getting colder out it's not always fun to have cold brew but it will make a difference and then take it one step further and go with nitro. Nitro cold brew, if you have that as an option, that's even smoother but also there is some evidence that's showing that the nitrogen infusion could actually make the caffeine a little bit more available as well.
I hope that this breaks things down and answers some confusion that may have been out there. If you have different drinks that you have questions about, just put them in the comments section. You guys know that I do my weekly roundup videos where I answer comments, so perhaps I'll answer some of those questions in that follow-up video so just make sure you put them down in the comments section below and make sure you check out Ujido Matcha and get it at my special discount. Honestly, it's very affordable so I think you'll like what you see down in the description. As always, keep it locked in here on my channel, I'll see you in the next one.

Thank you, Thomas! A few months ago, I had a 4 Monster a day addiction and I saw one of your videos recommending Matcha. Today, I am only consuming maybe 2 energy drinks a week. Matcha has changed my life! My energy levels stay consistent throughout the day and the bonus is I'm saving money. Thrilled to see that we both use Ujido! I was curious as to what brand you recommend and now I feel confident in my choice. Thanks for all you do!

First of all HUGE thank you for your outstanding nutrition talks you provide each week. Thomas, you talk a lot about 'stevia' being the best sugar replacement. I just wonder what your opinion is about Erythritol (Xylitol) which to me seems even a better solution as it has 0 kcal / 100% non GM? Could you also comment on it regarding if it breaks a fast and how healthy/unhealthy it is?

So on a trip to Italy many years ago, a bunch of us frequently visted a lil cafe not far from the coast near Santa Lucia and I kid you not, it was the best coffee I had ever tasted. I asked him how he made the coffee but he wouldn't give up the secrets. But one thing he told me was that if you add cold water initially and mix the coffee into a paste, and then add hot water, it doesnt strip the coffee of its flavour, doesn't increase the acidity as much, and you wont get that burnt taste you can sometimes get.

I'm definitely going to try switching to coconut cream. When I started keto I used alot of cream and when I cut down on the cream my keto rash started disappearing. Now if I understood it correct coconut cream is easier on the bile and that's why I developed a rash(at least it helped developing the rash) by eating a big amount of cream. Feel free to correct me if I'm way wrong.

Thanks for the info on dairy! I have got to get my inflammation down - have two hairline fractures on the 2nd and 3rd toes on my right foot and I don't want to take the prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs and overload my already fatty liver. I also picked up the matcha and looking forward to trying it to help me get through the corporate work day. Wanted to pass on if folks are having a challenge with the Ujido site getting the discount - don't click on the Gpay in the first screen - wait until the payment screen at the end. I had to back out and do it over. Clicking on Gpay in the first screen doesn't carry over the discount but you can get the discount and use Gpay if you wait until the end (with Chrome).

So, others out there say Plant protein is bad because it’s makeup is furthest away from our protein structure and that plant protein bio-availability is less than 17-10% further adding that the rest of that protein gets converted into glucose. Almost feels like we are making stuff up as we are moving forward.

Tried Nitro coffee, my taste buds did not enjoy the odd taste that it gave me. Caffeine does not affect me nor does it to anyone in my family i.e. siiblings, parents. I used to drink coffee in the morning but realizing that I am a high energy person already I did not need a wake up drink in the a.m. now it's lemon water and ACV. I actually consume about 6 cups of coffee at night before bed and it puts me right to sleep and no I do not need to vacate in the middle of the night ;) and I'm 64. I actually sleep more now than when I did in my 20's,(4hrs) I hit the sack at 11 and am up at 6 ready to jump into my day and after an hour of study/ meditation I'm off to the gym. I struggle with the mineral water, so this has been my go to when i crave a carbonated beverage, do you still recommend on Keto? My second question resolves around cold brew.I love Cold brew yet i prefer to make it myself. Zevia is great and you can drink it while fasting. Stevia, however, is being shown to trigger an insulin response so try not to drink it around meals.
You can do your own cold brew. It's the process itself that removes the toxins.

I am on one meal a day keto diet since last 2.5 years, and I know Insulin doesn't build muscles. Fasting raises growth factor and that will help building muscles. Intermittent fasting and keto will teach your body to run on ketones, thus your body never breaks muscles to make sugar. This is the logic and science behind.

Hi Thomas! Thank you for some great educational videos. They give me lots of inspiration to continue my keto/IM journey. A journey that's been highly successful so far. In fact I'm going to have skin removal surgery in the beginning of 2019 and in preparation to that, I wanted to ask you, if you have any tips on how to make the healing process easier and perhaps reduce scarring? I am aware that it's mostly down to genetics, but I figure why not try and give my body the best chances for achieving the most optimal result. I don't smoke or drink alcohol, I eat turmeric and black pepper 4-5 times a week to reduce inflammation and have already planned an extended sick leave to minimize stress, both mentally and physically. Is there anything else I can do? Thank you so much in advance!

I'd be skeptical of a "sweet tasting" matcha green tea. There has been a number of matcha green teas that have been found to have lead in it, and lead has been used as an artificial sweetener hundreds of years ago, so you know it has a sweet taste. Be careful, and do your research!!!

I've just read about matcha tea and its seems that you have 100% of the benefits if you consume it as powder but you also consume all the lead it has ( and it can be above the recommended dose!!) . You have two solutions: make matcha tea from tea bags or drink matcha produced in Japan where there is less/no lead.

@@ThomasDeLauerOfficial looking at the nutrition chart for the 10 packs one serving has 19g of carbohydrates. Combined with other low carb food you may get over the period of a single day doesn't this increase the risk of getting kicked out of keto, with just one serving?

You say not to consume fatty cuts of meat, but what if the lean meat is not very high quality. For example, at TJs you can get 99% lean ground turkey for a very good price. But organic turkey, lean or not, is quite expensive. So my question is if the meat you consume is lean enough, talking around 99%, does it matter where it came from at all? Sure it’s more ethical, but still.

Hey Thomas I’m following the keto diet for the las three months and at the same time I’m doing lF for 20 hours per day. I always workout in the morning but I noticed that at the end of my workout my blood ketones levels are very low. It’s that bad?

    • @jack_wparsons
      @jack_wparsons 4 года назад

No it means you used your ketones. Try measuring your ketones after 20 minutes of resting you should see it go back to normal again. Same with oxygen saturation in your blood, it should go down after excercise

I made a drink mix by accident but am not sure if it is safe especially for my stomach...
What i did was 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus lemon juice in a glass then i added salt water(mix of potassium chloride salt, pink himalayan salt and baking soda i tried adding the baking soda at the time and did not think there would be a reaction...) plus a little raw honey. is this safe? Could it be healthy? Pros and cons? It kind of had this soft drink feel to it..
Usually i do this without the baking soda😅

little nervous about getting into the keto phase. What if I feel like I'm ready to go back to carbs but moderate it. I'm not talking about sweets, im not really into sweets. Just eat a burger or a burrito here and there maybe after a night of going out. Would I have any side effects and if so how long do they last? I eventually want to throw in my favorite foods.

Hey Thomas, I really like this video. I've been taking vegan protein and i really like the peanut butter flavor but i remember you saying in some video that peanuts are legumes and that they're inflammatory. Can you elaborate on that? and another question is what is an alternative to micellar caesin? I take that before I go to bed because I have a neurodegenerative disease that weakens my muscles causing the loss of protein.

Love the channel, can't get enough. Have you thought about doing a podcast as well?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you just said you don't really recommend Celsius drink because of the sucralose? Because I just saw the ad where you are the spokesperson for celcius. So I'm confused because I trust your opinion on what to consume and I drink celcius, but it sounds like it's not good for keto because of the sucralose.

Thanks again Thomas for great info. I have a question though. Is it just as easy to use cocoanut milk as the cream or is there a big difference in them aside from fat content. I ask because I have never gotten used to brewed black coffee (espresso is another story) and really miss the flavour of a creamy coffee.
Is this an option or should I just man up and get used to it? I also make cold brew but i have teenage sons who will literally empty the jug in the mornings when they leave for classes leaving dear old Dad to a day of french press.

    Hey Thomas *****PLEASE HELP*****
I've been eating your beginning diet plan to the T for the past 4 weeks. I've been consuming about 7 limes a day in my water and kratom tea. Will the lime consumption stop my body from entering keto or kick me out once I'm in ketosis?
Edit: Also are redline energy drinks okay to consume? I'm dedicated and REALLY want to get healthy on your methods. Please let me know your thoughts.
There's a lot of info but you focus on the science aspect and that keeps me on your channel.
Quick story: I ran into some lady at work the other day and she mentioned keto and I mentioned your channel and she was like "that's who I watch!" Keep up the info man, it's inspiring.🤙👍
