Since I’ve become a serious guitarist, your videos have been gold mines for my progress. Thank you
This channel is a lifesaver for people like me who can't afford lessons 🎸🤘
Your a great teacher, glad I found you as I have learned alot
This is great . Thank you !
You really deserve more subs! Your lessons have a outstanding quality. Great content, structure and visuals!
truth
the best teacher. straight to the point
Fantastic ¡ the minor/major example at 14:34 blew my mind
My favorite part was that bonus lick at the end consisting of a repeated 2+3 shape (2 notes on the lower string + 3 notes in the string above) often called the “frying pan” that contains all 5 notes of the pentatonic scale. The stack of frying pans is sometimes called a pentatonic (super-)highway, and it’s a fantastic way to move across the pentatonic boxes and up the fretboard. Because it’s made of three identical stacked frying pans, it’s easy to learn and play fast. I believe that the frying pan is an easier shape to learn the pentatonic than starting with the first box.
Your melodic application was pure gold! Thank you.
Finally learned those penta figs!!! The only one I goof is the 3rd shape..but the rest I can see them with your explanation..THANK YOU!
Excellent Lesson!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks Rob :) Keeps me motivated!
To me it is easier to remember 5 patterns of A minor Pentatonic scale by designating number One starting on 2nd thread, number Two starting on fifth, number Three starting on 8th, number Four starting on 10th, and number Five starting on 12th. From there I can figure out all other Pentatonic scales. 🙂
Wow, this is the best pentatonic scale lesson ever. You are the best and thank you for sharing 🙏😃
The best youtube channel!! Very clear and simple to understand
Thank you Dimas :)
best lesson I have ever meet about pentatonic scale , thank also with BT i will try to practice with them.
Thanks!
Man these are some awesome lessons. Thank you 💯🎸
This is such a gem of a lesson, thank you so much! I don't know why it took RUclips so long to suggest your videos to me, but I am glad it did. Love it!
A "jem" of a lesson? ^^
I'll show myself out...XD
Very helpful and well organized lesson, great graphics
Thank you Dustin!
Every time I sit and watch one of your lessons, I make sure I have my theory note pad and pencil. Very valuable information, thank you for your lessons
Thanks Tim and you're welcome mate! So nice to see my videos are useful!
Absolutely amazing video, making clear so many things, kudos to you, man👏
Thanks Robert!
Your channel is amazing. I discovered it a few weeks ago. Subscribed right away. I listen to backing tracks alot during lockdown. I've sent my son your link as he is learning guitar & bass. Thank you
Thank you Dakin
Thank you very much for this lesson.
Great video! One thing I would like to point out...the diagram for the diagonal lick you play at the end incorrectly labels the 6th string 8th fret note as A when that note is actually C...
Thanks! And yes, that is a mistake unfortunately...
Thanks Rob - cheers Nick Australia
You're welcome Nick! Glad you like the video :)
Good explanation. Context with chords might be good tip for next lesson if you do not mind 😉
thank you Gentleman for the great lesson
You're welcome Sardar!
I get some cools ideas for getting better as always do in all your lessons. Thanks a lot Rob!
Zojuist jouw kanaal ontdekt Rob. Wow 🤩 ik wou dat ik dat veel eerder had ontdekt. Wat een geweldige tutorials, duidelijk, begrijpelijk en met mooie voorbeelden. Top man! Ik ga jouw kanaal volgen. Supergoed 👍
Hoi Theo. Dank je! :)
Rob, Great video! Thank you. Love your style. Great content, and offered in a concise and effective manor. You teach more in five minutes than most teach in 20! Others ramble on with filler, and it makes it harder to tie things together. Grateful that I found your channel.
Thanks Jack, I try to keep it clear and transparent.
Awesome work! I discovered your channel not long ago, and i learned A LOT. Thank you very much, Master.
Thanks for you nice comment!
Excellent video, well done 😀
Thank you Johnny!!
your channel is very good, I hope you continue to approach theoretical concepts applied to the guitar ... it would be good if you guide us more about the CAGED system and the arpeggios that can be superimposed on the major and / or minor triads ... for example, Amaj7 you can play the arpeggio of C # m7, and you can even play F # m7 or Emaj7, on top of the Amaj7 .... thanks!
Hi There Esteban. I have the CAGED system in my que so it will be here. You're right about the arpeggios. I will do a video about that too! Thanks for the comment 👍
spanish to me, dude you seem to know what's up so maybe you should make your own videos lol
Great lesson. I’m an intermediate player, but for beginners you could use a guitar with less complicated fret markers, maybe play a guitar without the Vai floral pattern. Just a bit of constructive criticism.
Absolutely true. I will keep that in mind for future tutorials.
I learned it the hard way from my music college teacher .. learned it slow note by note.. but in the end understood it a more clearly
.. Major Pentatonic Scale then made me do Minor Pentatonic Scale too but a very important scale all around
Superb
amen!
Hi Rob and good job ;)
Thanks Jordan!
Really good lesson effectively presented. Outstanding!
What videos you recommend if I am stock on the pentatonic boxes and want to move out of it for good?
Hi Rob, my final comment....excellent videos and effects etc....saw quite a few at random...in my opinion after hearing to most of them....on my Tablet and Desktop....your guitar sound would should be brought forward and reduce the guitar effects...maybe I am wrong...listen or rather watch Active Melody etc. websites. By the way the guitar sound in this lesson is much better and clearer compared to your other videos!
Hi Elvis. The guitar sound in this video is not great. True :) This is quite an old video and I record different these days. I like to think the sound in the new videos is much better :)
It's impossible to watch this channel and not be inspired.
Thanks for your kind words mate! Realy keeps me motivated.
Helder verhaal Rob! Top!
Dank je Peter!!
Hey, should I learn the CAGE before Pentatonic scale?
Hi Andres. Both ways have advantages and disadvantages. I teach my students the pentatonic scale before the diatonic scale for practical reasons. I don't use the CAGED system at all.
Great video but the diagram at 8:21 lookk flipped to me -a on the b string is at the 10th fret and on the d string the 7th
what am I missing?
This diagram in the XIIth position.
In the blues and rock traditions, this scale originates from Africa, not Asia. It can still be heard in the music of West Africa today. Was it enslaved folks from Asia working the fields in the Mississippi delta?
Penta comes from the Greek word "pent", which meand "five". Pythagoras (570-495 BC) was one of the first that made a scientific systematic study to tones that seem to occur naturally in the world. After that the Pentatonic scales were developed independently by many ancient civilizations, especially in China and India where it it is still the most important scale structure. It may have spread all over the world including Africa and was furhter developped in its own cultural way.
Remarkable fact: There was a flute found in 2008 by archaeologists in Germany that dates to 30,000 years ago with 5 holes, tuned to the major pentatonic scale. It is the oldest known instrument ever found.
Schaefer Motorway
3 frets lower.
I should’ve just played saxophone
Can an Italian play a different guitar from Steve Vai? No! 😉
Haha👍
never mind you are on the 12th, my bad
You look like Jordan Peterson's if he wasnt a clinical psychologist and instead focused his time on music!
See this is the problem as a beginner it's people like you that go by the so fast that no one can comprehend this I take guitar lessons and it's the same thing can you do one court at a time
Excellent approach :)
Thanks Johnny!
