I think this is one of the best interviews you've had. Coach is energetic, very smart, and is not afraid to share details. Well done all around.
The cool thing is that Coach is in a position now where he doesn't have to be concerned with having WWE as a contingency plan if shit goes downhill. He's got such a wide ranging name now from Pro Wrestling to MMA and Sports Analyst that he'll be able to find a job. Which in turn means he isn't afraid to open up about stuff that happened in the business like others would.
I don’t understand the Coach’s story. Why was going in the ring to fight Undertaker and Bautista something Vince did as revenge to the Coach for missing the trip? I get that he missed the trip but why is it a bad thing to fight undertaker and Bautista?
He was a guy that should've been lucky he was chosen.
They could've gotten anybody to do Johnathan "Coachman" which was basically go out there, say a few words, and embarrass yourself every other week to make the actual wrestlers and stars look good.

I always liked coach, his interview pushed the stories of the wrestlers he was speaking too and he could do it in a very unique way.
I’ve come back to this video a few times and I’ve had that where someone has gone out of their way to upset you’re shaking with rage and crying at the same time. It’s unforgivable to treat someone like that
Vince is a real pos that’s why his heel “character” is so compelling
I wouldn’t say that. McMahon is just business first. Even then plenty of guys talk about Vince‘s good side
@@Birdman669 Dude he literally worked under his daddy for 20 years and then bought the company from him in the 1980s. But even guys who arguably were screwed by Vince like RVD, Maven and Richards don’t hate him at all.
I understand Coachman’s frustrations but I don’t think McMahon meant it to be personal. Plus I think the fact Coach wasn’t a wrestler has something to do with it. Non-wrestlers involved in WWE don’t generally seem to connect as well as guys who were wrestlers (Renee Paquette, Justin Roberts). Like it doesn’t surprise me that a guy like Kurt Angle admires Vince’s commitment to the business.
Aged well.
I worked in a company for 8 years so I considered myself a loyal company man. In year 7, my boss asked me to head over to Sierra Leonne for business. That was when the country was having a devasting outbreak of ebola. I said fucked that I didn't want to go. Because I said no, 4 other staff that were my juniors also said no. My boss was outraged and said if I didn't want to go, hand in my resignation letter. I came back an hour later with the letter ready. I dont think he expected that and told me to calm down. A few days later the trip was cancelled because our advisors from Sierra Leonne said don't go there at this particular time because of the outbreak. I left the company a few months later cos I lost all respect for the man I was working for.
U did the right thing fuck that guy - if the boss isn’t prepared to do it himself he can’t expect others 2
You didn’t take one for the team that’s a coward move. I’m sorry to say.

When I was a kid, I hated Coach. I didn’t even want him on the screen. As an adult and when I rewatched his scenes on Raw, I realized how entertaining he was. Dare I say it, he elevated the product.
I dare say you're reaching.
HARD.
I can understand respecting a person more as you've become an adult, but all that other stuff is ridiculous and cap.
I have that with all heel guys growing up, now I rewatch their matches and promos and love them, triple H and RTC come to mind
The thumbnail, "HIS LIFE IS ALL PRO WRESTLING"... I know it's meant to read "his life is ALL pro wrestling", but...
In my early 20s, I trained at All Pro Wrestling in Hayward, CA, run by Roland Alexander. Roland & APW had been featured in Beyond the Mat w/ Roland taking Mike Modest & Tony Jones to WWF for dark match tryouts (Beyond the Mat is how I found APW, of course). One day, I was in Roland's office w/ then-trainer, a young Bryan Danielson, and saw a framed article hanging on the wall on the documentary w/ an enlarged quote from Vince; asked his thoughts on the doc, Vince said "I can't believe someone put me in the same movie as that fat carny", referring to Roland. I asked Bryan, "Why would Roland frame that?" Bryan said he'd asked Roland the same question and Roland's response was "that shows Vince McMahon knows who I am". This past Sunday, 11/5, marked 10yrs. since Roland's passing. I know he'd smile, as I did, reading the thumbnail as "[Vince's] life is All Pro Wrestling."

Coach doing the charleston for The Rock is still funny to this day.
The thought of the Coach no selling both the Undertaker and Batista’s finishers is hilarious!

For years I thought the “Mr. McMahon” heel character was just Vince acting like an evil A-hole for the cameras. But the down to earth Vince we saw in interviews was the actual “character”.
I'm not a billionaire wrestling tycoon... but the success I've scraped out in life has helped me understand a man like Vince Mcmahon. Successful people don't really have real friends. You can see it you can feel it. Everyone who's around you (because you're successful) isn't really real around you, because they just want something from you. I can only really be real around my superiors, and they're business colleagues. Vince... at least in the since of wrestling, doesn't really have any superiors, or peers for that matter.

It won't happen as the boys and ladies are always going to be looking out for themselves, sometimes out of ego, sometimes out of necessity because they want the money.
I really admire Coach now after watching this interview, and I feel so terrible about how WWE wronged him the ways they did, but I think his feeling sorry for Vince isn't really necessary 😕. Vince may not have friends "outside" of work, but I'm sure that's not abnormal for someone of his level of wealth and success. Vince has employees like Mark Calloway, and John Cena, and Randy Orton that all admire and speak highly of him. Some billionaires don't even have the admiration of their colleagues. Vince also managed to raise 2 kids at his level of wealth that didn't grow up to be complete screwballs.
Vince is a different type of animal. All he knows is business, from sunrise to sunset and probably til sunrise again with little sleep. 77 years old and probably has been this way for 57+ years.
There's a special place in hell reserved for Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

WWE/Vince never let that "No" go. Vince doesn't really have a life outside of the business so it seems so he can't relate to the Coach's one time he had to take time off for the obvious reason of his wife being pregnant. Vince doesn't have an off switch but others do and should.
The Coach is really telling it like it is because he's not worried about burning that bridge with Vince and returning to WWE. He doesn't plan to, no chance in hell.
There are other stories like this to. I know people don't like Vince Russo but he's talked about this side of Vince (McMahon) and it's a big reason he left the company. Russo wanted time off to spend time with his kids and family or something and Vince's response was "get a nanny." Maybe his life USED to be all about pro wrestling. But as Jim Cornette has said MANY times "Pro Wrestling" as he as well as myself knows it is dead. And has been for quite some time now. When you have men and women spending thousands of dollars to attend a wrestling camp/school to become A PRO WRESTLER. Then they are signed to a contract by WWE and are labeled "sports entertainers". Isn't that contradictory to everything they ever dreamed of being...? Going so far as to not even call wrestling moves what they are but rather make up ridiculous acronyms for them. It's PRO WRESTLING not Cirque du Soleil...!!! This is why i stopped watching the WWE and it's shitty product. They have abandoned everything that pro wrestling stands for and it's a damn shame. It's not always about "the money" it's about your passion and craft and the talent you bring to the table. Now i only watch very few American indy promotions who still stick to there roots. And mainly Japanese Puroresu who have NEVER abandoned them to begin with. Vince's daddy is probably rolling in his grave with what his kid has done to that company.
No Way Jose danced funny tho
Wrestling was the only way Vince could have a relationship with his dad (who he met for the first time when he was 12) - that explains a lot to me why he’s such a control freak and has virtually nothing else in his life. He wanted to be validated by his dad who walked out on him as a baby…incredibly tragic but it makes so much sense. Thankfully Shane McMahon hasn’t fallen into the same trap

@@OrionOodama I think it goes beyond that. I’d say in their minds, they’re 99% divorced, save for family holidays and the odd photo op. They’re both free to do whatever, the only thing remaining is the legal tie.
And yeah, that one would be as messy as Jeff Bezos’ divorce, because Linda was an integral part of the growth of the WWF/E. She’d have every right to claim 50% of Vince’s stake, in addition to whatever she already owns. Meaning if that happened, she might be the primary shareholder.
I’d say they probably have an arrangement where Vince doesn’t hinder Linda’s access to money, and Linda doesn’t formally divorce him. And they stay out of each others business.
I think Coach is probably wrong. He's trying to understand Vince by pretending how he would feel if he were in Vince's shoes but he's not trying to do that with Vince's mindset. Vince probably has one love and its the business.
