- You guys know I love Ninja swords, this time I wanted to make a more "Hollywood" version. 1095 high carbon steel.

That is an endgame sword for me. When I have a bigger forge, I definitely will try to make it!

@@JumboRadish When I was a kid, in Black Belt Magazine they used to sell a replica of his sword. Had all kind of gimmicks from a spike in the end of the handle, to a pull out dagger from the end of the saya and breathing tube. Visually, what makes it stand out is I think it was shorter than yours, but with a larger diameter guard. But how cool is it to know yours work better than the ones in the movie did?

It's so nice to see you employ a full samegawa. Your revised polish shows off the yokote better. I'm curious, do you champher the mekugiana? Its a nice touch to add. You should try doing yasurimei and make it look really authentic. Yeah its a lot of filework on a part that isn't seen much, but think of it as another step forward.
Thank you! This is the first time I worked with real Samegawa and I absolutely LOVE it! I also love the look of yasurimei file marks, I will definitely try it in the future. I love all these suggestions, I feel like I am getting better because of them!
@@JumboRadish I just had an idea, you could maybe fake the funk on filework if you used the dremel with a wheel. Could probably cut down on the time drastically.
That's a lot better than a lot of ones I have seen guys with top-end gear make.

Thank you!!! This was my first time working with real Samegawa, and I LOVE it! I also love Tachi style fittings and have never seen them on a ninjato before. I did change solder to muggy weld (SSF-6 56%), and I gotta say, it is sooo much easier to work with than brass solder. It has a much lower melting point and supposedly has much higher tensile strength. It is much much more expensive, but I would say that it is worth it.

*Fun fact* : Ninja's Has Shorter Sword than samurais because Ninja's often use there sword For stabbing but sometimes they use it for slicing too...and the whole Sword they use them for climbing obstacles that they can't reach.

That’s not a fact… ninjato or ninja swords are made up weapon from the 20th century for plays and theatres and did not exist historically.

Most RUclips sword smiths get Japanese swords all wrong, but you kinda nailed it! Great job! I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, cuz I'm seriously impressed,, but I was hoping you'd gun blue the fittings. Is there a reason you chose to spray paint them instead? Just easier?
Honestly, just because it was easier. I do love blued fittings too though.

Thank you! The blade is 21 inches long, 11 inch long handle, guard is 3x3 inches.

I think a great starting place to start would be to check out the video "How To Make a Fighting Dagger Out of an Old Steel File" from fellow RUclipsr BackyardBowyer. It is actually one of the videos that helped me when I was getting started knifemaking.

@@V3xDev No problem! You can do everything an angle grinder can do with hand files. The main thing is to be able to clamp down your work piece (with C-clamps or a vice). I don't know if you have seen it, but check out my Wakizashi video. I do everything with no power tools in it.

Very good sword, a question, what kind of glue do you use for the handle?
I use Gorilla glue 5 minute clear epoxy. I used to use wood glue, but that takes all day to dry. I have had very good results with the Gorilla glue epoxy so far.

Hey man, I have been looking to get into making swords and in particular katanas. Which she’ll would you recommend, 1095, 5160 spring steel, or tool steel? I’m undecided 🤷🏼♀️.
I have had very good results with 1095 and 5160 for swords, but have not used tool steel yet. If you have access to tool steel, you have to tell me how it is (I have been curious about it for a while now).

I absolutely love how leather Ito looks and feels. It has to be a good quality leather though, the cheaper leather wraps are too thin and rip easily.
