This is the 1st of your videos I've watched. I'm 62, lived through the Thatcher years so know the history. This video is a breath of fresh air after decades of listening to the wealthy telling me, and now my son, that we really too expensive to employ so work cheaper, work harder. Bless you kid your generation have a lot to rebuild.
I'm 61 and live in the US. I hear the same thing from my son as you hear from your's. Him and his friends, all in their late 20's, believe all the BS about poor people causing their own problems because they are lazy and stupid. It's just crazy what has happened in the US.
I heard a quote about 10 years ago that stayed with me..."if you were to die tomorrow, the posting to fill your position would be published before your obituary"
In chile there was several cases of this happening last year, public healthcare response mails arriving days post mortem of people who needed it. You know how it is ending here, pure fire on the streets, enough is enough
actually a neat song about chilean uprising says "Today I shall die on the streets or in a queue list", referring to the youths engaging with police since october
I know, right? Second Thought has gotten increasingly more political since this coronavirus pandemic. (sigh) Well, he can only make so many videos about the biggest flaws with the bad way American governors run things. Some of them even feel like different versions of the same video four times. What makes Why the United States Can't Handle Crises a different topic from Why Capitalism Can't Handle Climate Change? What makes America's Looming Housing Crisis a different topic from America's Looming Eviction Crisis? I hope Second Thought will return to his usual content when this video is three years old, because this pandemic and the buzz that it gave unregulated capitalism can only last so long. Biznis Man Yeah, but our government is so stuck up with getting profits that they don’t give a shit about individuals, they don’t care about schooling or healthcare or other basic human needs. I don’t entirely agree with the whole “Socialism is the only true way” that some preach, but there is definitely some things to be learned. America may claim to be a Democracy, but that’s only true at the town and maybe state level. The Federal government isn’t a Democracy. It’s an Oligarchy. A rich few try to further their own interests by getting themselves involved with government. And their ivory towers are so fucking high that they physically cannot see the class below them. That’s the issue, the government doesn’t serve the people. It serves the companies, the corporations, itself, and not the people. America is the perfect example of late-stage capitalism. The corporations are so big, the government is too concerned with serving them rather than serving the people. Occasionally a few scraps will be thrown, a few dollars will be given, but then they turn around and give the corporations a feast, and give them multi million - sometimes billion - dollar bailouts. We need a return to the original American way, where the people were cared for. Where the people actually had power. Thank you for coming to my TED-Talk.

@@MortyrSC2 I know, but isn't this just a logical result of the the-winner-takes-it-all approach? If radical parties or even just those with a specific agenda have no chance on winning anything, isn't it logical that the only parties existing neglect everything in favor of the largest voter group, the middle aged white blindly patriotic salaryman? This is one of the reasons why the U.S. is sometimes regarded as un-democratic, since these are basically the only people in that country who really have a vote that counts, everyone else is blatantly un-represented. In a multi-party system, even if "your" party doesn't get in power, they may still sit in parliaments, be a valuable partner for reaching majorities there or just inform the public about what is actually debated on. It's not a surprise that those countries getting the best ratings in terms of democracy are those with proportional option.
It's so sad how this channel constantly predicts the future, because it's always obvious that this is what happens, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Think of it this way, many communist groups are gaining more land and power in the third world and I’m almost certain this pandemic has made many more class conscious and critical of the dogshit system that they’ve been convinced to believe is the only solution, that universal healthcare is too expensive and that anything even remotely social democratic is the second coming of Hitlerite Socialism, whatever that even means. The left is (slowly) gaining more influence. And socialists are too not just social democrats although many modern social democrats in my opinion are socialists in waiting after talking to them and realising they just hadn’t had socialism explained well enough and someone who cared to answer questions.

@Sukan As a guy who lived in a Socialist country, I agree with you. In capitalism, nothing is shared with the poor. In socialism, there is nothing to share. Everyone is equally poor.
@Sukan Because many people see Socialism as a cure to capitalism. In reality, we don't need both. What we need is Capitalism with a bit of government control over the big corporations. I'm from India and we were a Socialist country until 1991. When the British left India in 1947, we chose Socialism and captured private companies and made them into public companies. But after the soviet union collapsed, we opened our markets and done an Economic liberalization in 1991. And then the county started to grow. India achieved and created a lot more jobs from the 20 year period from 2000 to 2020 than the 44 years socialist period from 1947 to 1991. But I lived in a communist-ruled state in India (State of Kerala) and here, and private ownership is seen as evil. As a result, most companies left my state and it resulted in huge unemployment. And all the public companies are just white elephants who do not make any profits but still function by eating the tax money. So people left the state to look for jobs in other capitalist countries, especially in the middle east. And we became a consumer state without any production which lives by expat money stent from other countries. So if COVID hit our state, there is no big problem. Nothing changes here If COIVD hits the middle eastern countries, then we are doomed.
@Sukan Well no one is saying that socialism is the cure, but there are certain things we can borrow and make capitalism better. There is no universal law saying that capitalism should be the way it is. Things can be changed, systems have to be flexible.
@TTNTT3 I dont know what kind of image of Kerala are you trying to paint, but I'm also from state of Kerala and I feel you are just seeing one side of the issue. Kerala is worldwide regarded as a great model despite the fact that we have fewer production houses. Our service sector is one of the strongest. Our standard of living is comparable to that of first world countries. Why do you think people from other states come to work in Kerala for daily wages ? The standard of living back in their states are too low which forces them to leave their homes and come to Kerala. And to say socialism destroyed india would be diametrically opposite of what happened. Different times require different measures and that's exactly what happened. If we stepped into a capitalistic democracy straightaway after getting independence, india wouldn't have been where it is today.

Jan Clements Exactly why a corporate-bought politician like Nancy Pelosi refers to social democratic, social welfare programs like the GND as “the Green New Dream” and refuses to even allow universal healthcare bills to go to the Democrat-controlled House floor for a vote, while getting shallow applause from laymen ignorant of the fact that we live in a corporatocracy. The fact that these corporatists are bought and owned has obvious influence on their ‘ideology’ and view of acceptable discourse/acceptable corruption.

It seems that social systems like Despotism, Feudalism, Moneyism, Socialism, Labourism, Communism, etc. are just different form of centralism or pyramidism. Sadly humans can no longer turn back the clock or slow/stop the clock since the late Prof Sagan calculated that humans has progressed pass the Тип 0.7 stage. If Dr Kaku projections are correct, humans will face greater hardships & dangers as it progress towards a Тип 1 civilization. Unfortunately the clock is ticking & the late Prof Hawkings projected humans has only ≈ 1 to 10 thousand years left to reach Тип 1 or face certain extinction/apocalypse. Perhaps the common people will need someone like V, Batman, Zorro or Robin Hood to “Flatten Capitalism” or “Flatten the Pyramid” & replace it with a society that's more forcus on building a Тип 1 civilization. I'm not flat, stop asking I know, it’s unfortunate. I was hoping there would actually be some change in the right direction. Instead it’s the same old Demopublican partnership operating on corruption, with some theatre out front to keep the populous fighting and divided.
And people eat it up. I see posts constantly talking about getting to upper middle class and so on. Everyone in the middle class is just working poor and need to fight for themselves.
There are distinctions within the working population that have proved to be useful in political analysis. For example, Marxism used to split this class into the proletariat (the people who are forced to work for the owners [the "bourgeoisie"] to not starve to death) and the "petite bourgeoisie" (people who own small means of production (bar, fuel station, shops,...) and can't live without working, unlike the bourgeoisie). The distinction is important because the petite bourgeoisie doesn't have much to gain from fighting the bourgeoisie, and it certainly has a lot to lose in political instability or collectivization, in opposition with the proletariat that has pretty much nothing to lose anyway. It was for example the case of the Kulaks in USSR. Consequently, not all the working population has the same political interests. Plus nowadays, additional distinctions could be added within the working population using technical/education level. There are many people who don't own any mean of production ( => they're a part of the proletariat class), but own rare technical skills that give them a lot of power over employers, which allows them to receive more than decent salaries. This subcategory of the proletariat gains a lot from the current situation, and would maybe not want things to change. I won't talk too much about this, but the owning class could also be divided into the people who own the means of production, and the people who only own money that allows them to gain more money using the financial markets. Their respective interests can also be contradictory in many cases. Additionally, a political analysis can't only take economic interest into account. People are guided by many values, and these can differ within the working population. Especially people from different regions and different education levels usually have a different cultural background and different political views.
I was shocked when I watched this and one of your other videos. I’m 35, I feel less and less secure as an American today. Your rundown of all the crisis we’ve witnessed in our lifetimes in astonishing. I grew up thinking if you worked hard, told the truth, spent money wisely you’d have the American dream. That’s the most important action we can all take that will do the most good. Keep informing us!
Yes, we should study our candidates and demonetize sickness and injuries. If you really want to have the American dream, work hard start your own business. Compared to the 2008 crisis - our dept in 2012-2015 was about at the same height 46%-44% before we where able to decline from 44% debt in 2015 to 33% in the beginning of 2020 - I am thankful that we financially are well placed in both debt (5th place with 4 nations having lesser debt in EU) and income (1st =) Within the Nordics handeling Covid - Iceland did best (85 pr. I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of watching your videos - i am insanely impressed! I’m from the UK and your channel is educating me on US politics so much. Keep up the good work mate! 💖
Best quote I’ve heard: “If capitalism is so great, why does it need to be bailed out by socialism every 10 years?” This is my new favourite video of yours.
Socialism does not exist without capitalism. Because of this, you have to be very careful about how you implement socialistic policies. You do not want to uproot the capitalist system. You must redirect it.
The thing I dont understand is, you can tell working class americans how thing are run abroad in germany etc. but they will keep insisting that america is the greatest and will dismiss your thoughts without listening. Sad!
Deep down, I am American will tell you that most people know America isn’t great but refuse to admit it to foreigners because people in charge equated American pride with dignity
And perhaps with fear. Some people build their believes their ideology to idea that US is the gratest country. If they lose that idea then they have to face the flaws of their ideology.
And in the mean time german politics try to adjust to american standards every year. Wonder what is worse: Being in a shit show, or desperately trying to get into it?
@@xellos5262 German politicians are indeed far from great, still better than American in most instances. In Germany the plan is to raise the minimal wage next year to about 10.40€ an hour compared to the 9.20€ since 2019 (although Corona may intervene). Every two years the minimal wage is required by law to be reexamined to accompany our changing GDP. There're still shit like too expansive public transport, rising right wing terrorism and the afd, not taxing international mega corps cough Google and Amazon, insufficient medical coverage etc. As a German I could only fight to keep the country on the rail towards more like nordic countries in welfare aspects and less like America :|
I'm from Germany and I'm really sorry for all you you guys living in the US. In the past days I had pretty similar thoughts and I'm so glad you're sharing them with a wide range of people. Thank you for that and keep going!
I'm from Germany too. I can't imagine living in a country without public healthcare and where you have to take loans just to afford your education. It's just baffling that a wealthy country like the US does this little to support their citizens! Hopefully many people will watch this video and realize the problem.
Germany is not a good example of how a society should work, ordoliberalism is shit. They are mercantilists, they have a corrupted moral, provided they have one, they are fanatical labor deflation exporters and they are allowed to do so because they can use the EU Latin countries as a shield. Germany, without the €uro and the EU, will choke in tariffs and its unemployment rate will skyrocket.
Your efficiency kills beauty, harmony, creativity, pluralism, progress, democracy and in the end the will to live, persons are not just tools, gears or numbers.
I have found ground zero of your socialist content! Awesome! I am going back through all of it. I enjoy your content so much, as well as the podcast you, Yugopnik and Hakim have. Thanks for all you do.
I went looking for the ground zero because I had apparently watched some of Second Thought’s video from before either of had become communists and I wanted to see what made things change. Coincidentally, the change for both of us was around the same time, which I think says quite a bit about the events of 2020.
I can only speak from my experience: I really owe everything to my country. Austria paid my education and even paid me to study. It provided health care when I needed it badly. Thats why I gladly pay my taxes. I really dont get the Americans who are against Bernie Sanders. By demanding from large corporations like Amazon and Co to pay taxes, he could have restored true capitalism. There is no true competition, If corporations do not play according to the same rules.
Obligatory apologies for my English. Yeah man. I'm from a 'third world' country in South East Asia. Even with all our faults, at least we have affordable healthcare, where minimum wage workers and the most vulnerable people in the society will not have to worry about bankruptcy when they need medical attention. My mother was admitted to a public hospital for a heart attack, and discharged after 3 days with guaranteed future appointments with specialists. Her medical bill was 0 dollars and I am very grateful for that. Of course her bills will be paid for by taxpayers' money, in which a large chunk of them will come from huge corporations. This is, like you said, playing according to the same rules where everyone pays their fair share of taxes and will be guaranteed a safety net by the government when they desperately need one. In America, this concept is will be mocked as filthy communism. Tax cuts and tax returns are fine, but tax inequalities are not. It is not even common sense when people are going bankrupt from huge co pays while Amazon can get away with paying no taxes and providing no benefits to their workers.
@@zharifmuhammad5585 I always have to laugh when Americans compare Denmark to Venezuela. TV shows like Breaking Bad would not be possible here. The European Walter White would simply get his treatment paid and the rest of the show would be a boring European drama^^ I don't say that everything is perfect here in Europe. We too have tax havens like Ireland, Luxemburg, and the Netherlands which create the same problem. But I think COVID 19 ist a good thing, at least in the sense that now countries think about taxing Google and the rest who avoided paying taxes.
Many people are not. However, the powerful, even if they are moderates in our political landscape, have fought very hard to characterize him as radical or dangerous.
@@stevencooke6451 I think to some degree, Sanders is also to blame. He incorrectly uses the term socialism. Socialism sounds as if this is some centrally planned communism, but in my country, physicians are not forced to do business with the universal health insurance. They can either accept the offer or not. That's a free market. And we too have private insurance, although I don't know many people who have it.

Absolutely true, when money buys you a voice the system can no longer be called democratic. A truly democratic nation values all its citizens voices equally, right now the higher your capital worth the closer you are to the government, and what is worse people accept that as just the way the system works. People have been brainwashed into believing that receiving their basic human rights is 'socialism' and therefore something to be afraid of.
Watching your videos, it seems to me that in America there are also real communist-socialist-Marxists, and not only SJW and social democrats, who are slipping into opportunism and defense of capitalism, but capitalism is softer. Many in Russia still dream of the "American Dream" that everyone can be rich. The effect is that we have not yet lived enough under capitalism and we still have "rudiments" of socialism like free medicine, but capitalism is slowly taking these "rudiments" back. In our country, thousands of industries, schools, hospitals are being closed, while thousands of churches are being built. In 2021, the number of churches in Russia exceeded the number of schools. There were unemployed and homeless people. Prices for everything are constantly growing, not keeping up with the growth of wages, while under socialism it was the opposite - prices never changed and wages increased.

I live in a small country in central Europe, that is part of the EU. Watching what is happening in the U.S. is just making me sad. Our country is by no means fully communist or socialist - we have free markets, capital structures and rich people, but we add some reasonable social welfare policies to the mix - free healthcare (mandatory insurance), free education, state guaranteed pensions and so on. I often complain about how the politicians are corrupt, how we lack behind the western Europe, but boy I am so happy that I live here given the current situation. The government responded surprisingly fast, we had < 10 confirmed cases when things started to happen - many shops and restaurants have to be closed, all international airports are nonoperational, public transport is limited, worker protection measures are quite heavily implemented, people are wearing face masks everywhere (if they can't buy one, the make it at home) etc. This might have economic consequences but at least it shows that even politicians and some "owners of capital" are at least partly considering the health of others. The results (after roughly a month after the first case): as of today only 728 total cases (out of which 23 have already recovered) and 2 dead.
if you are talking about Slovakia than people should know that part of the reason for that may be that regardless of covid-19 there is a high unemployment rate already, and the population is generally much older so they couldn't get away with doing nothing. the place has it's own problems too. Having said that i am happy and optimistic about their response, I don't feel like i need to worry too much about my grandparents.
Daniela Elliott pretty much your whole comment is wrong. Yes, there is a higher unemployment rate and a higher average age. BUT: the unemployment rate is 1.7% higher than in the US. And the average age is 3 years older (all numbers before the crisis). You are writing like Slovakia is an underdeveloped country. It is not. It has pretty much everything that the US is asking for. More workers rights, affordable healthcare and a affordable university’s. The average cost for a medical degree is 8.500$ per year in Slovakia. In the US the average is 70.000$ per YEAR. And the Slovakian universities are good and respected around the globe. The country is everything the US workers want, minus the „weak“ economy.

If you are wondering why's wrong with America these days, why so much violence, hate, anger. I think the real problem is CAPITALISM. In a society where the wealthy control the power and media, it's inevitable for they will seek a system that would perpetuate their status, where the rich stays rich and the poor remain poor. Looking at the microscopic(individual) level, you might find few success stories where the poor, through hard work and ingenuity became the rich. But on the macro level, the rich stayed rich and the poor remained poor for generations. If you think to yourself that owning a big house and a nice car makes you an "upper-middle-class", that's just naive. Middle-class was an invented idea to make people feel better about themselves, in the end, it's still part of the working-class, people who exchange their labor and time for money. In such system, poor white feel their opportunity has been taken away by immigrants, poor black feels the lasting oppression of racism. The Healthcare system is a perpetual nightmare because it puts profits before people. The defense spending is out of proportion because the military-industrial complex constantly looking for enemies. The education system burdens students with a ridiculous amount of student loans because universities run like businesses. Gun control becomes a chronic discussion because NRA needs to take a stance on some "freedom/profit" issue. All while those are happening, there are endless entertainment, sports, and "breaking news" to keep us all distracted. Ireland has a long working relationship with the US and many people go there to get work experience in the hope of returning to Ireland with a good job or skillset. The one big fear apart from gun based crime is the total lack of public healthcare and the very high cost of private healthcare. The experience of many is that if you are childless and healthy the US is better economically than Ireland. However if you have children education and childcare are very expensive and covering the cost of any health problem is ridiculously expensive. Many fundraising set-ups have had to be done by the Irish American community to cover the health care and repatriation costs of Irish citizens who were unfortunate enough to get injured or fall ill while uninsured on visits to the US. For many people the highest cost of a US trip is not the airfare or the accommodation but the insurance needed to be fully covered for health and injury risks in the US.

No he didn't. He'c comparing a 1.5 trillion liquidity injection into short term lending to stabilize the rate of short term loans that are all paid off in a number of days, to "why can't we pay for universal healthcare where we give away free services." There is nothing wrong with a system that has decided to use short term liquidity injections in short term lending markets, nor is there anything wrong with a government that has decided to tax and spend on major programs, but they are not remotely the same kind of government behavior, and nearly all the facts that have been leveled at the audience are intentionally misframed to be as conducive as possible to tricking the audience into feeling that the socialist policies suggested are "no brainers." They are decisions about cost and benefit. There are costs, and there are benefits. This is not to say that the costs are not worth the benefits, in some cases they seem to be, and there are many countries that spend money on healthcare and have very happy citizens, which is not to say that they are single payer in their model, most aren't, but they are typically partially funded through government spending and they are typically universal, and they are less associated with medical bankruptcy, but that's not to say one bit that single payer or predominantly government organized healthcare is a better deal. Taxes are spoken of in a particularly dishonest way here. The bottom 50% pays a higher rate than the top 1%, yes this is true. It's also true that the bottom 50% don't have a meaningful tax liability, as they spend money into the federal IRS in a proportion which is smaller than the money that the federal government spends directly on them (on average as evaluated by cohorts, some people may be luckier than others, but in large numbers those round out and this holds true). The bottom have a negative tax contribution. They pay tax, but they get more in services and spending from the government than they pay, so they might pay 30% of their income through a combination of income and payroll, but then the government spends equal to 40% on them. This spending can be massively wasteful, so it can be a very bad deal, but the government isn't getting money from those people. It's losing money. This is not a problem, but to mention the tax rate implies that there is some raw deal going on, and there isn't in terms of the money being collected from them or the return they get from that which is collected. Nearly all the money is coming from the very wealthy. We might be able to take more from them, and that's a matter of hot debate, with good points made on both sides, but to imply that they aren't paying their fair share, when the government basically only makes money off the top 30% is a bit ridiculous. I don't think the government should be doing it differently, but that is what is happening. Complaining about payroll tax is complaining that social security exists, that it's a retirement fund that no level of failure, irresponsibility or error in the market can ever erode or destroy, and that it's progressive paying out more for lower earning and lower tax paying citizens than for higher paying ones. This is a service to working people that prevents them from having the autonomy to completely ruin their financial picture for retirement, and the government stepped in to create such a system because people needed something to prevent retirees from being rendered destitute, and there as a lot of discomfort watching such tragedies. When that's the nature of taxation, why the fuck does someone talk about it like Bezos or Buffet aren't paying their fair share? They are paying enormous taxes. Those billionaries pay for all the military spending. You don't contribute enough, likely, on average, (assuming you're a regular joe) to cover the costs of your social security payments, your medicare and if you bought a house, the tax breaks that come with that. You aren't contributing. You're just being forced by the government into some insurance schemes that are, full disclosure, very stable, but also returning investment at a rate that would be considered a grand failure at a good investment firm. There is only one way the government impoverishes you, and that's by being bad at spending money on your behalf, it's not because they aren't spending as much as they took, no they are spending more than they took, they are just spending it like blind cunts.

Not everyone needs a car, not everyone needs a lawn mower, not everyone needs a kindergarten place when it matters, as long as you share with people who have the solution to your problem. - If you are in debt, try to get away from it quickly! Just sell the car again. Debts can get you into very uncomfortable situations very quickly. - No big expenses, no luxuries, no nonsense. Concentrate on what you need! - Invest in useful material. In tools, in resources that make your life easier, even when the world around you is getting harder. - Invest in skills, in abilities. Skills make you independent. You can use them for yourself or you can offer your skills as currency in exchange with others. - Start repairing items again instead of buying new ones. - Have fun! :) - Buy some board games or something. You don't want to be dependent on booze to have a good time, otherwise it gets uncomfortable. - Bonds are worth nothing. If you have some, then quickly hot potatoes with it! - Meditate every day and try to become good people. I'm sorry but desperate circumstances require desperate measures. - Remember also, there can be a lot of inflation I think we are still very far away from that and it may not be a problem. BUT remember that when the first signs of hyperinflation appear, you should convert some of your money into Bitcoin as soon as possible to prevent the loss of value of your money. - Times of misery and poverty are the times when fascists are strongest! Promise me that we will prevent a fascist uprising! I beg you! Talk to your fellow humans, face them with empathy, patience but also honesty and ambition! Give them your hand even if it makes you uncomfortable and they behave badly. Try to do everything in your power to prevent that we will meet these people later with torches and weapons on the street If they can they will start to divide the people into those who are allowed to survive and those who will be disposed of under a new fascist regime. - And last but not least, remember that if the financial crisis is indeed there now, it is not just because of a virus, it is ultimately the natural result of neoliberal mismanagement in this late phase of capitalism. In order to respond adequately to the problems of this world, these policies must end. If politics is not able to react to COVID-19, to the financial crisis and especially to the REALLY existence-threatening crisis - the CLIMATE CHANGE - then we have to consider this government as extremist and use a peaceful revolution to replace it. A General Strike would be a fantastic tool to gain real ground. So Remember: Don't panic! (=⌒▽⌒=) Keep your hearts up and join the struggle, my friends.
This is strange, I'm from a third world country and I thought we had it taught, I've never heard of debt for going to university, in my country schools are free university actually pay you every 3 months with free food and rooms and for everyone with back degree, all hospitals are free and all prescription drugs you pay 12%. "Third World Country" is subjective and its something that these parasites label anything that its not USA, but as you have seen with this pandemic, and most of the points mentioned in this video, the US might be considered* first world country but only to the parasites, the rest of the population lives just to get by, i have family in what is considered "third world" but i assure you that they are better off financially than 90% of people that live here in the US with no debt, and dont have to live from paycheck to paycheck. This is probably the most honest video on the state of capitalism in the USA. If the richest country in the world has some of the worst worker rights, something is horribly wrong
It's capitalism. Capitalism is horribly wrong. Exploitation is not a bug, it's the core concept. Maximising the profits means minimising the compensation you give to your workers, so the people with all the money will Always use their power to make the labour of the people working for them, the people making all the stuff they profit off, cheaper. They'll dodge taxes, avoid or lobby against environmental regulations, public health regulations, workers rights, anything that costs them money. They'll comodify things we need to live, things that are or should be human rights, jack up the prices, artificially restrict the supply, buy up all the affordable housing and rent it out at barely affordable prices whatever they can do to profit off something that people Need. They will continue to do this, and fuck people over as much as they possibly can, and extract every drop of wealth they can from the workers and the planet, regardless of consequences until they run out of things to exploit or destabilise everything so badly they, like every empire before them, lose the ability to support their own growth, shatter or collapse inwards. This isn't a "Greedy people exploiting the system" problem it's a "The system is set up to reward greed" problem. We can't wait for it to be Profitable to deal with climate change. It will be too late.
America is the world's free for all. Just look at its history. This isn't an honest video though as narrator is biased and implying socialism as an only antidote.
@@infoprod7731 The problem is the disparity in power regarding ownership. Where owners of capital always eventually win through accumulation. Then they bring instability into the economy with rentier and monopolist tactics which create inflation for capital and deflation for labor. Leading to an unsustainable economic situation. If it doesn't it fails and stagnates from the inefficiency of horded wealth producing no new utility while it starves the of the rest of the economy the ability to consume.

It's extremely important for the American people to wake up and to be alarmed by the corrupt politicians and politics in the US. The subtle anger in your voice towards the end of the video is powerfully haunting. I hope everyone in America is feeling equally as enraged so major reform can finally come.

Consider the implications and how this will temporarily benefit us but in the long run make it worse for everyone not just a select few.
To start with, I'll say that I'm totally on-board with the message. I'll also that being a landlord actually *can be* a job, if you do it right. My father and I don't hire anyone to do any level of work on our properties that we can do ourselves. We do carpentry, roofing, plumbing, basic electrical, flooring, painting inside and out, all lawn care and yardwork, in addition to countless other tasks for more than a dozen houses by ourselves without a crew. That's two people working six hours a day, five or six days a week. That's a job. The first thing we did when our state announced a shutdown was call around to our renters and determine who among them was going to be affected and couldn't make rent. We've cut rent for multiple tenants and are going to forgive months' worth of rent for several more. We'll also be shouldering utility bills for the duration as a matter of course. It's deeply disappointing that many landlords are not handling the coronavirus outbreak with common human decency, but I'm proud to say that our tenants will receive at least the basic courtesy of not being kicked out on the streets or have to deal with their water/power/AC not working. I am a landlord, and a worker, and I support workers' rights.
@@jillfizzard1018 thats what any good landlord would do, yet second thought is just going around saying every landlord and real estate investor is a dick without a second thought

You are great really, and I don't mean anything offence but you just proved the point that landlord is not a job by listing all the real jobs you have and do instead of hiring people to do those jobs. (carpenter, plumber, landscaping, painter, etc.)

For others here, I would suggest you read about Kerala model that was heavily praised by different economic organisations

"The notion of the middle class is largely a construct to divide the working population." This is so important to understand
Based and comradepilled
And people eat it up. I see posts constantly talking about getting to upper middle class and so on. Everyone in the middle class is just working poor and need to fight for themselves.
@@angry-white-men Middle class goes up to $186,000. If that's working poor, then they are living outside of their means.

When Capitalism and big business can buy the government, that is when democracy has fallen apart.

I don't remember the last time US actually acted democratically in this world
@@ram__ghanem They're not even acting democratically at home.
Democracy dies with applause my friend

The real American Dream that is, not the Hollywood propaganda of "the American dream" the actual American dream is very simple: Be independent, self-reliant and own a bit of property. that's literally all the American dream is, at the time of the founding owning property was a really big deal.
George Orwell he 💯
I live in a small country in central Europe, that is part of the EU.
Yeah I know, most European's think we're just joking when we say we dont have healthcare and how much our healthcare costs. It's barbaric.

if you are talking about Slovakia than people should know that part of the reason for that may be that regardless of covid-19 there is a high unemployment rate already, and the population is generally much older so they couldn't get away with doing nothing. the place has it's own problems too.

@@miranda8636 It is, but it's not free: Your health care pays for it. However, everyone has to have one by law and the money is directly taken from your monthly paycheck. No he didn't.
He'c comparing a 1.5 trillion liquidity injection into short term lending to stabilize the rate of short term loans that are all paid off in a number of days, to "why can't we pay for universal healthcare where we give away free services."
There is nothing wrong with a system that has decided to use short term liquidity injections in short term lending markets, nor is there anything wrong with a government that has decided to tax and spend on major programs, but they are not remotely the same kind of government behavior, and nearly all the facts that have been leveled at the audience are intentionally misframed to be as conducive as possible to tricking the audience into feeling that the socialist policies suggested are "no brainers."
They are decisions about cost and benefit.

And I am very sure that we are not expecting a recession like 2008 as well, but a great depression, because the same problems that led to 2008 are still there, only that we have accumulated an even bigger mountain of toxic banker's mess, inflated the debt-bubble to giant proportions and could expect even a debt crisis. And THEN we are adding a worldwide pandemic on top of it! There is even a small chance that we will experience a "modern day dark age" - if we screw up horrendously.
Entire financial sectors are likely to fall away. Many of us will lose our jobs. Some of us will lose our homes.
How can you protect yourselves?
Try to become independent and minimize your risk of financial disaster.
How do we become independent?
- Plant your own food in your own backyard. Being able to feed yourselves is by far the most important thing, and believe me, it will be a relevant question!
- Even if you do not have your own garden, join with others, with neighbors, with friends, with parents, with enemies! You can ask your governo, mayor or a university for land as well.
- If nothing helps, then annex a wild meadow or a park. Put a sign in front of it, explaining that it is an "urban community garden", that it needs community care and that it should help.
- Build strong communities. Resources can be shared.
So Remember:
Don't panic! (=⌒▽⌒=)
Keep your hearts up and join the struggle, my friends.
This is strange, I'm from a third world country and I thought we had it taught, I've never heard of debt for going to university, in my country schools are free university actually pay you every 3 months with free food and rooms and for everyone with back degree, all hospitals are free and all prescription drugs you pay 12%. We do struggle with imported stuff (cars, equipments,...) .
US is wealthy but not the people.
Which third world country
Pretty much the same here in brazil
"Third World Country" is subjective and its something that these parasites label anything that its not USA, but as you have seen with this pandemic, and most of the points mentioned in this video, the US might be considered* first world country but only to the parasites, the rest of the population lives just to get by, i have family in what is considered "third world" but i assure you that they are better off financially than 90% of people that live here in the US with no debt, and dont have to live from paycheck to paycheck. What we have in the US is just appearance, a fake reality that we are at the top of everyone, and everyone is below us, be thankful that you are free in your country, with no student debt loans of the worry that you might end up homeless the moment you are without a job
How hard is it to get into University? Can anyone go? Are their caps?
@@troymakay796 algeria for sure
The fact that this has to be a debate in the first place is honestly disheartening
"you know you've done something appalling when Tucker Carlson turns on you..." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
what do you mean turns on you? he literally criticizes everyone all the time other than libertarians but democrats republicans hell even "trumpiens" he even on air directly criticized trump himself for being a "warhawk" on numerous occasions IE missile launches into Syria,The Iranian stuff that kicked off 2020 ETC. and if you think its just trump when it comes to republicans you would be so wrong the amount of times he criticized seniors for "ponying up to china" or "double standard on farmers" ETC.
I mean you probably would realize this if you do research yourself rather than blindly believe news corporations trying to harm there RIVALS IE fox news MSNBC CNN really anything other than there own news company.
why does fox keep him on I HAVE NO CLUE I guess bottom line since he does rake in the money for them since he has the "accent of the common man" I guess.
😂 just quoting the video my mann
Yeah his tone has changed over the last four years towards the GOP. I’m glad Fox News gives him that much leash
@@Newbmann Trump is a warhawk who has surrounded himself with Neocons. Just wait until he's reelected, look out Iran, Russia , Venzuela, etc. , and that's WWlll.
@@georgedgeorge26 what else did you expect every modern american politician is say for

Im not defending him Im just saying Hilary Clinton literally ran on war with Russia
well not directly but still she ran on having no fly zones over Syria which Russia said would be considered american interference in Russian affairs even before she supported it.
This is probably the most honest video on the state of capitalism in the USA. If the richest country in the world has some of the worst worker rights, something is horribly wrong
This is why capitalism should be more 'controlled', so people could move classes by their will
That’s the American way
It's capitalism.
Every economy of any style needs to focus on maximizing value added transactions. Which is seen at the same time as increasing income equality. If it doesn't it fails and stagnates from the inefficiency of horded wealth producing no new utility while it starves the of the rest of the economy the ability to consume.
I salute you for for posting something that is out of the scope of this channel. It's extremely important for the American people to wake up and to be alarmed by the corrupt politicians and politics in the US.
As a European we are not only shocked by the struggle most working Americans have to endure, but also appalled that the US is counted as a developed country. Rise up fellow Americans!
No.

Some parts of America are indeed developed world. At the same time the life expectancy in some parts of West Virginia is the same as Ethiopia. This is a fact.

That's what I have been saying for years. Yet people still think socialism is the root of all evil
@Wesley H your'e a bigger idiot, do really think capitalism works, what a wanker?
@Wesley H homie i just want healthcare
@Movie Creator 1973 Chile? :|
Capitalism is evil through and through brothers n sisters comrades, every war ever fought bar few, if any, has always been about trade n commerce, redrawing maps land grabs FFS, even in my country we fought the Brits out in the war of independence up to 1921, we were fighting capitalist bastards!!!!!!!!
Socialism would help - but then you'd realize it starts to fail and its authoritarian behavior becomes obvious that it limits peoples rights.
The problem is with the US is you have a bipartisaned, government, and population who cannot agree on a single thing.
"I'll probably be back to my usual content next week."
Cut to 3 years later, and now this IS the usual content. Awesome!
The subtle anger in your voice towards the end of the video is powerfully haunting. I hope everyone in America is feeling equally as enraged so major reform can finally come.
That day will never come.
Well I learned that these socialist communities are emotionally unstable and incapable of seeing the implications of creating a socialist state. If all it takes is a relatively minor situations like this to make people start shouting anti-capitalist sentiment then where screwed. Dont sell your rights my guy, especially now.
You've got to be like the best landlord in town tbh
@@jillfizzard1018 thats what any good landlord would do, yet second thought is just going around saying every landlord and real estate investor is a dick without a second thought
If i were a real estate investor i'd do the same, letting tenants stay and pay a lower rent since they have to stay home as opposed to working, also second thought literally mocked every real estate investor how are u not pissed? even if you do support workers rights its clear second thought and the other trolls here don't hold you in very high regard
You are great really, and I don't mean anything offence but you just proved the point that landlord is not a job by listing all the real jobs you have and do instead of hiring people to do those jobs. (carpenter, plumber, landscaping, painter, etc.)

Believe me there are plenty of sociopaths who still disagree
The economy was not booming at any point in the last 40 years.
The only thing that was booming was the stock market, while the working class languished in their poverty wages.
