I am glad I saw your video. I have been using 5/0 Hooks for baiting pile worms and ghost shrimp. I missed countless bites until I changed to 1/0 Octopus hooks. 5 for 5 striped bass with one personal best at 8lbs and 28”. Unbelievable day for me. ❤❤❤❤
Ahhhhhh Yeah Now we takin it back to basic's and good ole times.. I grew up doing this with My oldest brother from the bank & tried to learn patients.. Just putting this out there. When I had a drift boat 30+ years ago when I could walk, we would go drift for Giant 50lb plus striper outta Red Bluff!
hey alan, loved the video on bait fishing for stripers, brought back alot of memories, we rigged everything the same way you showed way back in the day growing up in sacramento. you mentioned the brick yards and i got a chill caught some hogs there and garcia bend, clarksburg back in the seventies.. thanks, keep up the good work
THANK YOU. MR. FONG. GREAT BAIT FISHING. SHOW. NOW I KNOW HOW TO BAIT UP A. SARDINE YOUR SHOW. 5 DAYS AGO OR SO. GARCIA. BEND. YOU ARE. # ONE. PRO. ALLEN. THANK YOU AGAIN. GENE. BOVA
Hey Alan is there a way you can tell if your at a sandbar by looking at your fishfinder? Does sand look like a different color compared to rock and such? Thanks?
Yes the yellow shade will be light in color. The harder the bottom the brighter the yellow and it's thicker. In the Sac river watch your depth and when it gets shallower like 8 - 20 foot thats usually a sand bar.
In the Sac river from a boat usually if your on 15 feet or less it will be sandy. You can use your electronics also by looking at the color line. On bottom look at the yellow bar on the bottom and the thicker the yellow line the harder the bottom. If from shore look for the sandy banks
I did try my luck again isiltion bridge. Not one hit on live bait. Tossed swim baits savage glide bait and a few others. I did land a nice bass on a under spin with a white swim bait easy 3lbs….Very clean too. She was a jumper N that’s my favorite part. I normally let bass jump until they can’t jump no more. I hadn’t caught anything so didn’t let her jump to high. Rod down and reeled her fat butt to the bank. One Down with so many more to catch. If you ever want to have some fun with me on the water. I’ll go with you Alan… you do have to bring Dirty D. with us K.
I look at the asian markets like KP or Oto's and sometimes they have fresh sardines. Look at the bellys and if they look like their falling apart don't buy.
For the 2023 season pacific sardines off the west coast ( Oregon ,Washington, California) are only allowed to be caught by live bait operation which sell live sardines and by recreational anglers who incidentally catch them using bait jigs.. In light of the poor sardine situation I have used herrings as A substitute which still come into the San Fran bay in good numbers . I
Those were the old days because now days hardly anyone bait fishes like they used to. When I was growing up my dad took me all the time and boats used to stretch across the river
I’ve seen that guy your with before. I can’t place it. I was at the W.B.S. Shootout. Maybe I seen him that day. Or at the sportsman show N sac. I think he hooked into a bat ray or maybe a sturgeon? No head shake on that fish. I know it wasn’t a cow shark. And please don’t ever say cow shark around my buddy Scott.
I think it’s better the hook the worm all the way through! The tail should be form just like the hook cause they Stripers are so picky with how they bite the worm and they usually bite the tail off

Mr fong tanks for your time and your reports have a wonderful evening or night out there
I like bait fishing because its relaxing and you can enjoy a couple of beers
Yes I like bait fishing once in awhile because I get to relax
Nothing beats taking the jids bait fishing and watching the excitement when they get a bite
Yes thats what happened to me as my dad took me all the time and now I'm hooked for life

Thanks for the memories
I can remember going out almost everyday with my dad

All those spots you mentioned are my stomping grounds and I caught lots of big stripers in those areas. I shot this video across from Garcia Bend
Nice day on the water, thanks for the tips, will be waiting for part two👍🎣👊
Bait fishing is relaxing compared to casting all day lol
@@AlanFong I hear ya, but I love the thump when that striper slams your lure👊👍🎣
Thanks Alan, great info
Glad it was helpful!
I'll be on the river soon bait fishing for stripers

Your welcome and follow directions and you should catch!
Mr Fong, is your method applicable in the slough near Susuin? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Yes you can for sure
Thank you sir!!
See You next Week Kid.

I never catch anything maybe that can change. How do you know where the sandy bottoms are around Garcia Bend?

What type and size of hook do you use when you are bait fishing? Thanks! Love your videos.
For sardines I use a 5/0 octopus hook and with pile worms a 1/0 octopus
Speaking of bank fishing, any good spots? Love your show!
I saw guys catching stripers from the bank on yolo side river right before Stan's Marina which is across the river from Garcia Bend
Where did you launch since Garcia Bend is close? Thank for the info
I launched across the river at Stans Marina
Do you like to fish the incoming tide or out going tide or high tide or low tide?
For stripers I like the top of the high tide outgoing its the best

OK just so busy now with the channel but I'll keep it in mind
What kind of knife is that?
I use Dexter fillet knives there the best. Most of the guides and commerical fisherman use them too.
😊🤗😁👍👋
Where's the best place to buy sardines?
I look at the asian markets like KP or Oto's and sometimes they have fresh sardines. Look at the bellys and if they look like their falling apart don't buy.

Nice to see the old school still alive. Lived on Ryer island and fished Steamboat slough for many years with Sardine fillets.
Those were the old days because now days hardly anyone bait fishes like they used to. When I was growing up my dad took me all the time and boats used to stretch across the river
Do you cure your sardines?
No I don't cure my sardines but I do wrap thread around them if too soft or I make gut baits I show in the video
Where is a good place to launch and leave truck parked all night to that stretch of river.
Stans marina and maybe Discovery park. Garcia still closed
@@AlanFong Is Stan’s still steep with water being high?
Yes and the current rushes against the dock best be a good driver. Discovery Park is open and a lot safer

No Tom if a long time friend and maybe Blomberg windows? Or Sunoptics sky lights? He is not a crazy bass fisherman like me
@@AlanFong no one that crazy Fong come on man. HahahaN
I luv What You Do.
I think it’s better the hook the worm all the way through! The tail should be form just like the hook cause they Stripers are so picky with how they bite the worm and they usually bite the tail off
Yes the little ones peck at the tail and if it's a keeper they usually swallow the whole worm
No sticky bait allowed in my boat
I don't use bait in my bass boat either so I have a aluminumweld for bait and kokanee fishing. It caught on fire last year and I'm rebuilding it now
