  • The body and shocks/suspension were in rough shape when I got the car, the engine and transmission were fine...this project was time consuming, but fun! All the work was done by me...except for the suspension work...and this is the first time I did anything like this. Thanks to all the "how to" videos on RUclips, couldn't have done it without!

I have a 95 golf and envisioned doing the exact same stuff to mine, removed molding and everything! that is so crazy! This car is exactly how I envisioned mine! I want to put shaved handles on it though.

I can't believe all the negative comments you got. I think my thumbs down finally got rid of jiminbmth's (Jim in Bournmouth?) comment. You did a pretty good job and thanks for sharing. Anyone extending the life of a VW deserves kudos in my book.

@dankbobby technically they are not hard to replace at all, but I did not do it myself because the springs need compressed and I do not have the tools. I would take it to a mechanic to do it because it's not very expensive ($80-100 for rear only)...or you could take them off yourself and then just take them to a mechanic to put the springs back on ($30-40)

I have watched a lot of DIY paint vids and some of them were an epic fail. Your car looks great except for the low sheen on the finished job. Great Effort!

very nice video, i have the same car, i was wondering how much you spent on the basics, like the color change and trim removal. if you remember, since this is 4 years old.
