- I bought the UK's cheapest MK5 VW Golf GTI...
Owning this shape GTI has been a lolng-time dream of mine. Follow along the process of restoring & rebuilding this car to hit the track; Leave your feed back and suggestions below to play a part in the plans for this car.
Volkswagen Golf GTI MKV MK5 Service Project Car
Its a decent spec 👍🏻 factory xenon lights, heated leather, highline clocks, sat nav and cruise.
Struck some luck! Big plans for it for sure!
Cam follower
Balance shaft delete
Cambelt & water pump
Cam chain
Vac pump seal
Genuine PCV valve
Genuine recirculation valve
Iridium plugs
Revo airtake
All of these are the most important things to change and upgrade
Also check the oil dipstick as the seals go on them , smoke test is always good too as the older cars do suffer with spilt hoses especially boost and vacuum.
Love this, as someone whose never worked on or had a VAG car before, this is big help; thank you!
@Jordkw all good mate hope you enjoy the project! I bought (at the time the cheapest Gti in the uk) just after lockdown and rebuilt it ..learnt alot myself and got to know these cars pretty well.
Best bit of advice I can give is don't skimp on parts always use OEM for PCV and recirculation valve, Cam follower and Belt/Chain kits.. R Tech are the best for tuning and AKS, Awesome Gti are great for parts and advice aswell as work too 👍
@@ads2211 dont forget decimal tenths up in newcastle. They are damn good too. They sorted an issue on mine that daffled a few places including awesome.
@andydunn1878 always good to know mate! I'm down south so R Tech is my nearest then VRS
@@ads2211 fair enough. R tech and decimal tenths are an equal distance away for me. I decided on newcastle as it was a more fun drive 😉
Was hoping this series was like 2 years old 😅 got a gt fsi myself and just working on the exhaust
Ahahaha, as fresh as it gets! Working on video no.3 as we speak; exhaust work is on my list soon tho. Stay tuned!
@@Jordkw snapped off the brake fluid reservoir cap on mine last week so I'd recommend being careful with that thing
so many relatable moments :D
I use Autodoc for all my parts. A good bit cheaper and good brands. Shipping uses EVRi though and can take a bit as it's based in Germany.
You also get money towards the next purchase if you're going to be doing a lot of work.
Get that cursed dipstick changed before it ruins your life, updated version is yellow. (Bits of the dipstick break off and fall into the sump)
Invest in NGK Iridium Plugs if you haven't already. (Good clean spark)
HPFP cam follower could do with inspection as they can cause a nasty bill in future if it wears out. (can wear camshaft)
Thermostat can go wrong. (won't hold temp at high speed)
Cam belt and water pump need servicing, as well as timing chain & tensioner. (general maintenance)
All in all, if you get a good amount of preventative maintenance out of the way early, you can enjoy the car a lot more.
A massive help; Thank you!
