The thing that made Larry the best lead guitarist for Iced Earth were two things. 1) His effectively simple lead style. Although he did do guitar solos, he mostly did simple lead passages over Jon's rhythms, instead of just shredding excessively. 2) Larry was equally good at rhythm guitar as he was at lead, so during that era of the band, there was a massive wall of rhythm guitar, which explains how on more recent live videos, the overall rhythm guitar sounds pretty weak. I love larry but I always thought Randal Shawver was always their most iconic Iced Earth sound. Literally evil wicked solos that fit, very powerful solos. Randall was the only lead to pick note for note with shaeffers rhythms. If not Randall I would def have Larry up there
This was one of their greatest albums, next to something wicked and the glorious burden and dystopia...early iced earth is just amazing as hell. Add dark saga and night of the storm rider and burnt offerings to the list...all great albums in the catalog of iced earth albums.

Iced Earth plays a much more vocal-centric style of metal than any of those bands listed, and Matt Barlow I would have to say is a better singer than the singers of all those bands. Thats not to say they aren't better front-men, however. Phil Anselmo, is by far one of the greatest frontmen of all time, and whatever his name is from Overkill is a fucking animal. But as far as vocal ability, I would have to say Barlow pwns
They need to play this stuff that we don't see anymore live again. Dragon's Child. Im-Ho-Tep. Wolf. Damien. Hell, with Stu, I wanna hear Gettysburg live in its entirety. That would kick ass.
