Ripper deserves more props than he gets. He's got a tough job. He gets asked to fill in for these popular bands, and he almost always gets a bad welcome because the fans are so devoted to the past singers. But without Ripper stepping in, these Bands wouldn't be touring or putting out new records. They would go on a 2-3 year hiatus, if not more, and that makes it even harder to "come back". So from all IE fans, thank you Ripper for keeping IE going with Jon for as long as you did. \m/
I don't think so. My trained ear of a singer indicates Stu sings in exactly the same heights. His voice is just more solid and that's why it sounds lower. It also has more drive - another reason why it sounds lower. Stu is actually far more technically gifted than Matt. Furthermore - his head voice is straight, Matt's is crackly. Yes, you can't let off the fact the original song is sung by Matt and he has a more unique sound of the voice unlike Stu, whose voice is all technique. Academically it's more useful to study Stu's style, because out of his not very big range he lets out the maximum of every tone. Matt, however, simply has a milder tone which nobody can impressionate and this makes him a far more recognizable singer. And that is his strength, which makes him so beloved. Neither Tim Owens, nor Stu Block possess such uniqueness. Well, Block is unique, but in a far different way.
the music is great.. and yeah.. like " thelayman" says.. the story "behind" the lyrics is great.... all of the Iced earth's lyrics are damn awesome... they can make a horror Story becomes even darker... or change people's thought that a horror story cant be more than that... when it actually can .. like Dracula's song.... like.. " vengeance for love "

well, i dont know exactly but is well known that jon have suffered extreme back pain for a long time. he went to a surgery in order to reduce it a little. dont remember when it was... before horror show recordings...?
falsetto is like going up 12 frets on a guitar. u force a shortening of ur vocal chords to produce a higher sound, but sacrifice fullness u'd get w/ a natural high, like a prince who has a VEEEEEEEEEERY full high voice. if ur a baritone or a bass, ur falsetto is high but still lower than someone who is a tenor who's falsetto will be higher than deeper voiced men. listen to greenface, and u'll hear the HIGH falsetto. the intro to 10 thousand strong also. barlow does have more range though
I will remember to you that Th Glorious Burden was writen for Barlow vocal except for red baron/blue max caus if you didn't it barw ws supposed to record the glosrious burden but his passion was not on his voice when he do that so he leave and ripper was cotactto record the vocals
Well, Greely could do high-pitched voice, but Barlow could bring that mystic, dark, ominous and powerful feeling in the songs. Like Burning Times, Vengeance Is Mine, The Last Laugh, Pure Evil, Dante's Inferno, The Hunter, I Died For You, My Own Savior, Travel in Stygian, Stand Alone, Brainwashed, Disciple of The Lies, the Prophecy ( especially this song ), Birth of The Wicked and The Coming Curse in Alive in Athens.
I agree, but I think it has to do more with the quality of the sound than anything. I mean it's Richard Christy! He was amazing as a drummer but he makes me laugh my ass off on Howard Stern so I can respect the career change
Yeah. . . Except that he refers to what the author of the story had in mind. . . And says that the story is often misinterpreted as just a horror story, instead of a very, very dark love story. I don't think it was possible to miss the love story from Coppola's movie. Barlow was obviously refering to the book in his intro. I'm just sayin' that no matter how much he kicks ass, he shouldn't be talkin' about a book that he obviously hasn't read. He rocks the house, though.
yeah i wonder if john will still force him to sing out of his natural voice. his cop band was very deep tones andd it was awesome to hear matt's natural voice. i feel bad for pyramaze though, they got dicked over putting him on that album.

i work in the town he is an officer in. one of his fellow officers was shot and killed the other night. they had a vigil in town for him and officer barlow sand the star spangled banner.
the arguments will always come when the singers are SO different. Blaze and Bruce, Johnson and Bon Scott. what people dont realize is u do have to change ur writing style a bit to match teh singer so its tailored to harmonize w/ what u got. so the barlow stuff was creepier adn lower cuz he's a baritone. tim's stuff is higher and faster, brighter tone cuz he's a high midtone high flasetto singer. w/ that difference, ur comparing apples to oranges.
This is the ONLY way this song should be performed. The Tim "Ripper" Owens version blows. Man I miss Barlow being in the band. At least I got to see them live at least once before he left.
Hmmm. . . I think this song rocks. But. . . It's based on Coppola's movie, Bram Stoker's Dracula, not the book. When he says the band thinks the author had something deeper in mind. . . The love story in the movie was totally invented by the screenwriter and doesn't come from the book, at all. Stoker was just writing a horror story with some cutting edge tech like blood transfusions and typewriters. Still rocks, though.
