    Pretty interesting how selection has changed over the years. I was 0311 and then 0321 (Battalion Recon Marine) in the early/mid 70's just as Vietnam had ended. Back then if you were maxing the PFT and qual'd Expert on the Rifle and Pistol range you could go to your 1st Sgt. and ask for Recon and assuming you were well thought of they would send you to Indoc which was six weeks of what was known as boot camp on steroids...lots of screaming and lots of PT, they just tried to weed anyone out that didn't really want to be there. Then off to BRC (Basic Recon Course)...the 2nd day of my BRC class we had our water test and over half of our class was dropped right then...I grew up a Surfer boy in Cocoa Beach Fl. so could swim like a fish and ran cross country in H.S. so the two biggest challenges for most guys were my strong points. My biggest challenges were the over land humps with 85+ lbs of equipment as I was 5'11" but only weighed 155 lbs at that time so was pretty skinny but I got through a bad ankle sprain and made it through BRC. Spent just over 2 years in 2nd Recon ('75-'77) at Lejeune then mustered out and was off to Engineering College (an Aerospace Engineer who works for a large American defense contractor's Missile Systems company here in central, Fl.

I want this and I am also going to school for Aerospace and Robotic engineering. I relate to you sir in many ways. Stay safe and thank you for your time served. Welcome home.

      I had a similar experience, I grew up in Santa Cruz, surfed and spent most of my times on and in the water. I also ran track and played soccer so my cardio game was on par. But god damn those ruck runs and humps truly tested my mettle. I’m 5, 5” and weighed 135 during BRC and slimmed down to 125 after. Despite all the pain and suffering during RIP and BRC earning the title Recon Marine was one of the greatest milestones of my life. S/F SSGT V, 0321, 1999-2007

      The Recon guys I knew well in 2002 were lean like a mix of Triathlete and CrossFit, especially after coming back from a tour. I became friends with these guys as they were working part time as personal trainers at a local gym in between tours in Southern California. Candidates for BUD/S back then like 234 class had similar builds as the guys in the video since I was told a lot of them came from fleet and spent a lot of time in the weight room on a ship. After 6 months it was explained to me at that time that a lot of guys lose a ton of muscle from the rigorous testing. Some other Navy friends joked that SEALS on tour stands for Sleep, Eat, Always Lifting.

      Panic attacks & tinnitus are fixable. Do your research, see your physician, and try to find solutions that avoid just using drugs. Try psychological behavior modification solutions, changes to your diet and lifestyle to solve those health issues. Once done, go see a US Consulate or Embassy; you CAN enlist in the US Military as a foreign citizen!

    • @salvulcano9061
      @salvulcano9061 5 лет назад +10

      I don’t think FORECON is obsolete. It’s just that Marine special forces are having a hard time. Marine Raiders have 1/3 the amount of troops as Navy SEALs and Marine Force Recon has 1/10 the amount of troops as the Army’s Green Beret unfortunately. I do not think they’re role is obsolete it’s just the decisions that the guys in charge are making that make them both seem kind of underwhelming.

    • @garycole520
      @garycole520 5 лет назад +12

      I tend to agree, because one is going to cancel out the other sooner than later. There is just too much redundancy and overlap in training and capabilities. The Marine Corps made a critical error when it prevented SOCOM from absorbing Force Recon in the 80’s. The Units were well established, unofficially, within the Special Ops community going back to the days of Vietnam. Another opinion: the Military is a reflection of society and society is about extremism and the supersize mentality. We have the most technologically advanced, most mobile and equipment efficient fighting force in our country’s history,... why the need for overkill in Selection, pipeline training, qualifications and pre deployment work ups? What you get is burnout and attrition among the experienced operators.

      You can always ask your local recruit , he will have all the answeres about that type of thing. When I joined it was actually harder to enlist in the Corpse then the Army. I had a GED and they made me get 17 colledge credits and a semi decent score on the ASFAB test. And this was for a MOS of 0311( Infantry ) back in 2003 , our military changes its qualifications all the time. I also had to get waivers for my tattoo's they were below my elbow and back then they werent fond of tattoos , not like today how everyone has sleeves and there hands. Good luck with it I hope you get to experience the Corpse , it will never leave you , it is the best feeling of pride and honor 2nd to none.
