Forgot to mention! Click the hamburger menu -> New Tab in Nautlius to create a new tab, or ctrl + N, and ctrl + W or the X button to close ofc.

The importance of this video simply cannot be over stated. I had *no* idea why on earth Gnome didn't have a minimize button for *years* and that you were supposed to drag windows to another workspace.

Yeah many people don’t know these small things about GNOME, gotta clarify them lol

    Really nicely presented!
I'm an "oldie" IT professional and venturing into Linux again. These distros and desktops have come such a long way since I last dabbled around 10-15 years ago.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on preference between the Ubuntu (Gnome) and Mint (Cinnamon) experience especially for content creation like video editing. Is it just cosmetic and personal preference or is one a better approach (less stressful!) than the other? Maybe an idea for a video? 😁
    Thanks again

Thanks! Yeah Linux has been evolving so much in only the past 2 years it’s ACTUALLY insane, the difference in user friendliness, security, performance and gaming, and basically everything from now and back then is completely incomparable. Regarding GNOME vs Cinnamon, GNOME s actually my favorite desktop environment, it’s fast, absolutely beautiful, and very efficient when you know how to use it properly, and has a nice unique layout. Also great apps imo. Cinnamon, not that much of a fan, I don’t really like Windows-like interfaces anyways and didn’t actually come from Windows but rather macOS, but for Windows user I guess it’s a pretty good starting point. I’ve used GNOME for about like 3 years now, and it’s barely ever had issues, even small errors are pretty rare. It’s definitely been stable and reliable. I also like that GNOME is very minimalist and doesn’t have a lot of customization and options as I don’t really care too much about customization, although actually you can still customize GNOME to an irrecognizable point, I prefer doing things one way and one way only regarding options, and I’m definitely a minimalist myself, but I’ve. Ever actually tried Cinnamon on real hardware, so may do that soon. Also thanks for the video idea :)

Can you do a video about how Gnome is intended to be used and how it's different from traditional Windows workflow?

Absolutely! Thank you for the suggestion :)

Ubuntu 24 is great. I might switch from mint to Ubuntu soon.

Yeah definitely, genuinely one of my favorite distros I’ve used so far, great experience :)

@PenguinByte yeah, I've used linux mint for a long time, along with a tiling window manger i3 because I'm not a fan of the windows-like desktop installed by mint by default. Since mint is based on Ubuntu it will be an easy transition.

@@DV-ml4fm Definitely! Agreed, the Windows-like desktop is what I dislike the most about Mint.

@@PenguinByte That's why I use i3. I am currently testing another tiling manager called dwm. Anyway, your videos are awesome. Keep up the excellent work. 👍👍👍

i love ubuntu and its amazing, it even supports ZFS in the installer. but i dont use it because apt install chromium-browser just installs some scripts to install chromium with snaps(same for firefox)

True, ZFS support is neat for sure. And even though I love Snaps, I gotta agree that the redirection is both sketchy and buggy when uninstalling.
