    I live in NYC and would love to own this bike. I can change a flat tire but I'm not mechanically inclined. The problem with this bike, as with most e-bikes, is that when it breaks, who's going to fix it? I know my neighborhood bike shop won't touch it. It's the dirty little secret the e-bike makers won't tell you. You're on your own if it breaks. Heck, VanMoof is in my own backyard in Brooklyn and you're screwed if you need something fixed. Also, the next gen Honbike would be better with a 500 watt mid-drive Bosch or Bafang motor.

    This bike really has my interest. I wish I could see it in person and try it out. Seems like a great option for the pits at the racetrack or in my city living room. The fact that is weighs just over 40lbs gives you the option to carry it up the steps in the house or load in to the bed of the truck pretty easily. So many options out there, its hard to choose one. Certainly this looks the part.

    Single speed test rides benefit from some climbs. You filming in Florida again? I think this gets lots of style points, but always wonder if the cadence of the single speed would make me leave it for a bike with gears.

    As you mentioned a bit under powered. I understand it is a light folding bike but I need 500w or better. Do Like the drive shaft technology . My ancestors built the first safety bicycles back in Scotland and the first pedal powered one used push rods connected to the pedals, design based on the old strider style bike but we didn't want to get horse cookies on our feet.

    It is a nice looking small e-bike, but the speed is something most can and do peddle with no assistance for countless miles. If the speed were 25mph+ along with having a capacity of far more than around 11 miles I’d consider. There is nice tech in the Ebike, but the performance is lacking majorly Unless you cared to travel at that speed, and have a very short distance to travel, and the time to wait for the bike to charge again. Also hills is a big question in the low amperage of the battery. Will it drain the already small mileage making it even smaller of a range?😲

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

    I find it strange that a 250W motor will only get you up to 15 mph. 250W of human power at the cranks will make you go 25 mph on a road bike. Does that motor peak at 250W and then decrease the power output when you go faster? Or is it because this bike is just very un-aerodynamic compared to a road bike?

    • @Electrek
      @Electrek  2 года назад +3

      It's because the power cuts out at 15 mph due to European laws limiting e-bikes to 15 mph under power

    • @briannugent5518
      @briannugent5518 2 года назад +4

      An unrestricted 250W motor without pedaling might eventually get you over 25mph in ideal conditions like a velodrome track.
      Motor power is more important to assist even on slight grades than to get you more speed.
      273Wh is the potential energy of 100kg (my bike+me) raised 1km which is about the same energy to assist me 30km on the level (I average 9Wh/km).
      If you ascend this 3% grade you need double the energy overall. If you don't slow down from your level speed, you then need double the power.
      Roughly each 1% grade needs 30% more power so a 10% grade needs about 4x the power.

    • @Shindinru
      @Shindinru 2 года назад

      @Brian Nugent Yup, those numbers do climb quickly as weight and grade increase.
      Locally the inclines average 12% with the high hitting around 18-20%.
      I have killed several low powered hub motors (200-300w) on these hills.

    • @Shindinru
      @Shindinru 2 года назад +3

      250w in a hub is not the same as 250w through a drivetrain.
      This why mid-drive motors can be less powerful (both in torque and watts) and still do the job just fine as assist.

      Use a Honda 49cc scooter instead. They can go over 40mph and they get 100+mpg Best part is you don't have to wait for any battery to charge back up. If you want to travel farther just stop at a gas station and fill it up with 1 gallon of regular unleaded. They have a 4 stroke engine so you don't need to mix any oil with the gas.

A lot of the pharmaceuticals many people rely on to stay healthy as they age are made using chemicals derived from petroleum. Why would you need to put a scooter in the back of your car? The Honda ones are super reliable and pretty much last forever and they are street legal. I see tons of people with Honda Ruskus mopeds on the back of their camper with a hitch carrier. They aren't anywhere near as heavy as the typical motorcycle.

      @@Prepare2Survive This was a review for a "last mile" solution. Any other insertion to this discussion is just wasted time. But in answer, what is your point? Where I live, those hitch mounted carriers are not legal. I would have to mount a bike rack to the exterior which will ding my mileage. I would put the thing inside my camper and lose no mileage. And no, we will never get rid of the fossil fuel industry but we should try to remove it where possible. When it comes down to it, I will change to all electric vehicles but never get rid of either my Tiger or R100S...
