Be reconciled with yourselves, the religion of Islam is a religion of peace, not killing and slaughter in the name of Hussein, and al-Hasan among you is innocent.
I think it's very important to not confuse the practices of a culture with what Islam teaches. Islam teaches respect of women. Most people who make assumptions about Islam have never even read the Quran. There are English translations of Quran. Many Islamic countries following Islam integrate cultural attitudes and beliefs with religion. This mix of culture and religion really distorts the true teachings of Islam. This integration of cultural practices happens in all religions, not just Islam.
@Benjamin Iota I ask you for the hadith in which you state. If it is not written in the Quran Benjamin and you cannot give me exact genuine hadith I believe you should read the Quran and become educated in what is written. Again, cultural influence does not teach truth.
@Benjamin Iota you evade my questions, first emplying that there are both Quran and Hadith proof, then only hadith, but you still give no proof, therefore I end this conversation.
We love that you show many of the nuances of a religion & a culture. Years ago when I was in college I had the opportunity to become friends with some wonderful people from the middle east. I knew that the news only showed one side. Thirty years later I have current friends who only know that one side from the news. I try to help them understand the nuances, the variety & the beauty that they will never see in the news. So glad I now have your videos to refer them to! Thank you! We discovered you a few months ago during the Hasidic series. We've enjoyed all your videos & greatly look forward to them each week. P.S. @Benjamin Iota I think you do not understand the boundaries and obligations. in Islam having 4 wives is a limitation, meaning you can have a maximum of 4. different from other religions where there is no law on polygamy which means you can marry as many wives as you want. Isn't it clear in the verse that it is permissible to have 4 wives as long as you are able and have a reason behind it all, not only economically and physically but also you must have permission from the first wife, if you reason only because lust is indeed permitted by your wife? look at the history of the world or even the current state of the world, many have many wives and even dozens of wives. What do you think? I think this is a simple and very logical answer

I was so impressed with Rola's commentary. How interesting to hear such a bright, articulate woman talking about her life as a Muslim woman. A pattern is emerging with all of Peter's interviews: we all have so much in common. I hope this series helps dispel the fear and negativity towards Muslims in this country.
She is liberal so she abandoned her faith. Islam religion is hostile towards Christianity if you read Muslim book called the Quran. 109 verses that preaches violence in name of Islam.
Welcome to Michigan!!!! I am so glad you chose to come here and feature the Muslim culture. I feel Muslims and Islam gets a horribly bad rap because of the media and crimes that are committed in the name of Islam. Muslims are very peaceful people. I have always lived within a half hour of Dearborn and have never felt afraid.
Not just the media. Many Muslim immigrants don’t assimilate into European society. There’s a difference being a Muslim in the Muslim world. Rola tried to explain best without any biases which I like. Many Muslims don’t do this and aré deniers to the outsiders and what I mean by that non-muslims
@Lilman Yellow there are also people who claim to be Christian that do the same thing and worse. People who behave in the manner in the name of their religion are not true followers of said religion.
@Farhan Ibn Mahmud Women can not refuse sex from her husband? I am Assyrian Orthodox Christian from Alberta, Canada and women are as allowed to refuse sexual activity. Men are not in control of that. That is complete patriarchy, not religion. We are spiritual being and deserve respect as humans, especially when it comes to physical intimacy. What if the husband is sexually aggressive or overly sexual. What if she is on her menstrual cycle? That is considered unholy. Also certain intimate acts are prohibited in Islam, yet some Muslim men engage in this. I have studied Islam and I know many Muslims, many, men and women do not follow their faith background. Everyone c as n practice what they choose but realize many religions are based on patriarchy
I lived in Dearborn in the early 80s and my landlord was a wonderful Muslim man. Every Friday night my landlord's daughter would knock on the door and hand me a plate piled high with wonderful Lebanese food. I think it says more about a person if they judge someone for their attire than anything. I respect this sister and was just thinking how she was so respectful of others and their choice and speaking up for the Muslims, until the niqab comment. This was so sad to hear. For me, my niqab helps keep me balanced internally alhamdullilah. It makes me content with who I am and not feel like I have to seek the approval of others. It make me constantly God conscious and aware of my actions. A reminder that I represent Allah swt and His religion before myself; pushing my own vanity to the side and also protecting myself. Each to their own, of course. Those of my niqabi friends are beautiful, calm, peaceful, kind individuals - and if you ever have the chance of getting to know a niqabi, you’ll see for yourself. But that’s the beauty, you only get to get to know us under the right circumstance (for us) Please understand what this sisters said is her own opinion and she’s clearly been exposed to the cultural viewpoint of Islam as opposed to the Authentic Teachings. Here’s to hoping people are learning to think for themselves and look beyond what’s in front of them 🤲🏼✌🏼
Yes. Her opinion about wearing niqab is her personal opinion and doesn't reflect the true teachings of Islam. There are many Muslims who do not believe in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad or think his teachings had been misinterpreted etc..etc. It all comes down to your Imaan. If you really believe in Allah and the prophets, you can always make Do'a and ask that Allah will guide you in the right path. Allah gives us brain to allow us to think. I pray that she will come back to the right path one day... inshaa Allah.
Although Christian, I wear niqab (long story) and while all women, Muslimahs and non, are free to decide for themselves. I feel that many just don't see the blessings in wearing niqab, which is sad. I feel very blessed when wearing it, and as a recluse by nature, I love that it allows me to maintain purdah.
Thanks for this! I lived in East Dearborn in the late 70's when the transition from German , Italian, and Polish communities to Arab speakers occurred, To this day, now in Chicago which is a strong Spanish-as-a-second-language community, I speak Arabic. It is amazing. Amazing crossing cultural, and linguistic lines. I guess I am a product of Detroit where we had SO many nationalities intersect all at one time. How cool is that?
I would not go that far as he said at one point that the lady with full niqab may have no tolerance toward a jew compaired to a non hijab waring muslim women. That is just judging someone based on their clothing mixed with the maine steam media's false naratives, not to mention when he compaired people saying Allahu Akbar to Hitler using swastika.
You or anybody shouldn't need help to dispel "preconceived" impressions. Average Intelligent human beings learn themselves from self observations and experience rather than being dictated "preconceived" mindset.
So cool! I grew up in Dearborn. There is definitely a Dearborn stereotype of a particular type of Muslim. I personally take every person as they are, regardless. As a mail carrier in east Dearborn and living in west Dearborn I see the spectrum.

I am a Muslim and I am ashamed to say that many of us portray Islam in the worst possible way though our actions. If we practiced the right way, Islam wouldn’t be so misunderstood.
I lived in Dearborn in the 1980s and loved it. If I ever move back toi the Detroit area, Dearborn would be at the top of the list for a neighborhood to move back to.
Bruh, middle eastern food is what brought me closer to ppl from that region of the world. Aside from their INCREDIBLE FOOD, they are literally just like Americans/Canadians. Value family, culture, individual responsibility, and respect.
The winters are great in Florida but a part of my heart always remains in Dearborn! I loved seeing the drive through east and west Dearborn and down neighborhood streets and the walk through Ford Field. The social life of meeting friends in cafes, pastry shops and restaurants in a non drinking culture is really nice.
I am enjoying these series. Sayings and symbols are very dependent on context. Rola seems very nice and level headed, I'd be happy to have a coffee (or a soda pop as well don't do coffee either). Edit: Seeing tbe Iron Sheik was cool. I saw a fight or two of his.
Fascinating insight into the various cultures following Islam, with different interpretations of the faith uniting in the spirit of brother/sisterhood.
Every religion has its own limits and values . But the people , followoing that religion are practising according to their wish and will . Means some of them respect the values 100%some 90%some45% . So we cant say anything about any religion just by meeting the people . We have to study that religion personally too .
@Benjamin Iota if u beleive in that then u should be a muslim otherwise u should not be worried about the beleives of islam . Christians also say that no one will succeed in the next life until they accept jesus as son of god and all that . So now it is also a negative part of christianity??? What would u say on this
Thanks so much to you both for this episode 🫶🙏🫶 I was born and raised in Arkansas, as a Christian. I have pale skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes. I reverted to Islam in 2014. I believe the women here who are wearing any form of hijab are so stingy and admirable. I've always been too afraid to cover in public because it would INCREASE attention/looks, plus I'm afraid of judgements or harsh reactions, and I really don't want to be bothered with any of that. I practice my religion in private, staying away from mosques and being wary of the communities from other countries because of the encroachment of their cultures, and their own forms of judgements I experienced.

I moved to Dearborn Heights 11 years ago from Oakland County, Michigan and she is spot on about this area being a good example of why immigration is good for America. I saw very quickly that we would not have to worry about empty storefronts and vacant houses like other areas who suffer during economic downturns. Even if a business doesn’t last long, someone else is quick to move in and give it a go with their ideas. And restaurants are thriving in this area when a lot of other places are suffering.

You are all wrong. And uneducated/ brainwashed. “the Hijab concerns only the wives of the Prophet and meets a circumstantial requirement in order to respect the private life of the Prophet. Besides, it does not represent, in any way, a particular model of clothing. The essence of this requirement aimed, mainly, to educate Arabs of that time to respect the privacy of people and good manners. It is therefore quite clear that the term Hijab does not absolutely refer to the meaning given nowadays as the scarf that should cover the head. The Hijab has nothing to do with any Islamic female dress. It is rather a symbol of separation between public life and private life at the time of the Prophet. It aimed to make of the prophet's wives Mothers of the Believers.” There’s ZERO verse in Koran referring to Hejab or scarf on head. The only scarf translation talks about covering chests and neck referring to specific clothing which Arabian women used to wear while NOT covering their bust! The entire hejab fiasco which has cost islam plenty of converts and has turned it into a butt of jokes in modern times is due to uneducated people like the lot of you who have fallen for wrong translations and propaganda.
Yes but hijab is a general word. Hijab is mandatory but the headscarf is a version of a hijab. Hijab is the same thing as modesty. Maybe you don’t wear headscarf. But are modest in a different way

Idk I could be wrong I do not wear niqab, but I felt I should suggest you to also have open mind towards them if we can be okay with people wearing nothing we can be okay with people covering themselves too. He wanted to know her view if she would befriend a niqabi as she herself doesn't wear it. But her answer was truly disappointing. Segregating the niqabi just coz of what she wears is what people of other religions are doing to Muslims but a Muslim doing the same thing is really sad.

Your video with the 12 muslims having dinner reflected muslims in diaspora. Rola seemed a little stand offish, about new refugees or women wearing niqab. There is education and then there is being open minded and cultured. Nice video anyway, good to gain perspective from all angles

Thank you so much for clarifying this, God bless you 💖 Asalamuwalaikum
@@AlhamdulillahiRabbalalameen Walaikum Salam, your welcome sister
@Benjamin Iota will you kindly give me the location in the Quran of this script? Thanks for your help in this matter.
P.S. 07:30 I see what you’re saying but actually, in Islam the mother is always the most important element of the family, not just in Ramadan 😀
And the most loved too
In Islam the saying goes that the gates of Heaven are at the mothers feet … we only get one, gotta love em while they are around!!!
@Benjamin Iota also the respect only extends to “their” mothers not mother’s generally.
@Benjamin Iota I think the answer is clear. you can look for other answers on the internet without malice and hatred in your heart

But that’s the beauty, you only get to get to know us under the right circumstance (for us)
Please understand what this sisters said is her own opinion and she’s clearly been exposed to the cultural viewpoint of Islam as opposed to the Authentic Teachings.
Here’s to hoping people are learning to think for themselves and look beyond what’s in front of them 🤲🏼✌🏼
Your body, your choice. But some lunatics force the teachings on others

Yea but this doesn’t jive with the whole ‘immigrants are taking all our jobs’ narrative … in the case of Muslims/Arabs in the US, often times they are the ones opening and expanding businesses, creating jobs …
Just for clarification: Hijab is not a choice according to the Quran.
As a muslim: yes. Unfortunately people only hear want they want to hear.
Yeah it's a must, only certain people can see woman without hijab like her husband and her children.. But yeah, back again it's private matter if they want to wear hijab or not... I just hope they will stop advertise as if it's okay to not wear hijab....
From someone who can't change her profile pict....
It aimed to make of the prophet's wives Mothers of the Believers.”
There’s ZERO verse in Koran referring to Hejab or scarf on head.
But are modest in a different way
@@alitubealt6185 no. Read my comment again. Covering hair for women is NOT mandatory according to Koran! Stop w your backward uneducated traditional propaganda. Tradition isn’t a law. It is not a religious mandate. Educate yourself. I posted the scholarly view.

naya shams; why didn’t you stay in your shariah implemented country then since you love it so much? Canada is DA’RUL HARB and its haram to live in da’rul harb countries in Islamic conception!
Masha allah I live in somalia 🇸🇴 and Ilove religion thank you 🥰
i hate all religions, they are bad for humanity , they are bad more times than good, religions make you hurt and kill others, I can prove this point.
WHY... is the Number 5 for the times to 🙏 PRAY?
Mashallah sister
i truly enjoyed listening to Rola and you. What an intelligent and fun conversation.
Watching your channel from Malaysia..
So.much more genuine than the other videos
I love your video of interviewing Muslims, make more!!
as Muslim women, Only thing I found in this video a bit less fun was I felt you were suggesting if niqab wasn’t a good American thing, when you say would u be friends with someone like this, and looking at them differently and comparing her with niqabis. Idk I could be wrong
I do not wear niqab, but I felt I should suggest you to also have open mind towards them if we can be okay with people wearing nothing we can be okay with people covering themselves too. Thanks 😊
I agree, that was a little immature. I would understand if an individual didn't know anything about Islam, but that comment along with the wording seemed a bit off🤔🤔
I was just seeing that part when I saw your comment, couldn't agree more with you. I wished she could be more open about it as she is a Muslim herself.
He wanted to know her view if she would befriend a niqabi as she herself doesn't wear it. But her answer was truly disappointing. Segregating the niqabi just coz of what she wears is what people of other religions are doing to Muslims but a Muslim doing the same thing is really sad.

Very sad, disrespectful and disgusting 👎🏻 🤢 🤮
I felt the same
very interesting episode as usual Peter !, I really like your guest attitude she's very warm and intelligent too :)
Very nice people. And Pete is so much under rated He is the type of journalists we need riht now, he shows the good in communities and people, Thank you
Wonderful Peter! I love your honesty by saying it's one perspective. Please keep it up. God Bless you. Take care
There are many Muslim women like Rola in Indonesia. Many Muslim women here actually wear the hijab because of the trend, but over time they become comfortable and get used to the hijab. If you look at the 2000s, not many women wore hijab.
This guy is a legend love from 🇬🇧🇧🇩
Your video with the 12 muslims having dinner reflected muslims in diaspora. Rola seemed a little stand offish, about new refugees or women wearing niqab. There is education and then there is being open minded and cultured. Nice video anyway, good to gain perspective from all angles
Agreed and she also seems arrogant and had pride. Her father educated her and they are academics. Oh and the people in diaspora are not educated 1st generation. She also mentioned Ramadan about calories and family time. She shakes his hand and sits next to a strange man. So very liberal.
@@taposherabeya7857 She's a second generation and in the upper middle class. Most immigrants are not as successful as her family.
@@bones6554 don’t care what she is we treat everyone with some sort of human decency and respect
@@taposherabeya7857 In a fantasy world you are correct but we live in the real world. She looks down on that part of the city and it's residents.
@@bones6554 it’s because her family taught her to. Everyone looks down on people and everyone looks up to people but it’s how you show and your actions towards it. Your right it is a fantasy world May Allah guide us to what is better Ameen
I found Peter Santenello's videos more informative, more entertaining than the main stream TV programs.
You asked a lot of questions in one video. That's a good sign of your knowledge regarding religion. Ali from Pakistan.
I got a question to you. Why are christian churches being burnt by muslims in Pakistan?
Interesting and refreshing thank you
She’s sweet! I really like this series.
Peter you should take interview from different communities ( different languages but same countries) such as Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, and Morocco. For example each country treat different communities in different ways in terms of their origin, color and language they speak but their religion is same. But when it comes to opportunities it's totally different.
Hello Peter 😊Rola and her husband looked very relaxed and happy in there lives. 😊👍👍
Thank you for your nice and respectful videos!
Great job, Rola! ❤
Thank you for your videos Peter, you rock!
so awesome series 👍👍✅
Allahuakbar ,Allah is the great ❤️
Hi, Peter, shukran for the awesome content espescially the way you foreground the voices and bringing a new light on Islam. It is wonderful that yor narrative is told through your lense (a non muslim) all the best. You must come to Cape Town, SA inshallah =).
Elegant, well spoken, grounded, pretty.
