- Hey, folks! Come check out Northgard: Uncharted Lands from Studio H, designed by Adrian Dinu. I'll be teaching my wife, Jessie, and my buddy, Brian. This game has been on my shelf of shame since I picked it up at GenCon 2022. I was finally able to get it to the table during Origins 2023, and now I'm preparing to give it a review, but I have to get it to the table a few more times...so why not do so live!? Northgard is a light 4X game that accommodates 2-5 players, and lasts about 90 min. Should be a great time! See you on the Flipside!

The day I bought this game we played twice back to back. I played more than 4 or 5 times that week. Such a perfect game for my group! Easy to teach and full of funny moments.
Can't wait to watch the whole thing is there any chance you guys could make more of these types of playthroughs with Northgard?
Hello Sam,
you are a great teacher. Thanks. :)
I have two remarks:
(1)
I realized a little error that may have an important impact on a game.
During the Setup phase Step D, you cannot have Gray/Advanced cards in the first 2 Years.
(In your game, I saw such cards being dealt in Year 2 already)
Fragment from the rules (page 4):
D. Shuffle all the Early Development cards and take 2 cards per player (4/6/8/10 cards depending on player count) to form a face down pile. Repeat the process with the Advanced Development cards, taking 4 cards per player (8/12/16/20 cards) to form a second face down pile. Place the Early Development pile over the Advanced Development pile, forming a single Development deck. Return the unused cards to the game box.

I think during the ending of the Year 6, the discussion at the table was as if Brian could have won just by winning the combat to get the Territory from Jessie with the two Large Buildings.
But maybe I just misunderstood.
Anyway, to win, he needed at least 3 separate Closed Territories, each with at least one Large Building.
Fragment from the rules (page 16):
A player owns at least three closed territories with at least one large building in each.
I realized the first mistake after I made it, but decided b the fly to not upend the apple cart, but thank you for mention it for those who watch and read the comments. To the conversation near the end, I know that the person who has three separate territories each with its own large building has to hold them through to the end of the year, and it wouldn’t constitute an “instant” win. But I was just trying to point out the “no counting of points” at the end of the year if he (or anyone of us) managed to attain that condition. Thank you so much for your kind words, though!! As they come from the game’s designer, I’m happy to know I didn’t screw up the teaching any worse than I did…lol! Thank you very much for watching!
@@SamHealey6Sorry Sam, but I just saw another rule that was forgotten: one cannot build the same Building twice in the same territory- moreover, the Carved Stone can only be build on its special building spot (I saw Brian built it on a a regular spot). That is how he reached the impressive number of 3 Carved Stones in one territory… 😊
@@addidinu My apologies! I know I explained that to Brian (and my wife the night before during our 2-player game). I wasn’t paying attention to where he was building them. But I also think one of them had a card (or ability) that allowed them to build buildings of the same type, but I could be mistaken. Long story short, I am aware of that rule and did teach it that way before we went live. I just wasn’t dutifully paying attention to what he was doing during the game. Again, my apologies!
@@SamHealey6 Sorry to bother you but you didn't answer about this following point. So I copy it again to be sure you saw it. :)
I realized you didn’t apply the Food bonus in combat (Step 3, page 14 in the rules). This is an important part of the combat.
@@addidinu Every game I’ve played we’ve not done that, including when I was taught at Origins. Missed (or more probably forgot it) from the reading of the rules, too. Thank you!
Good game. Thank you for the stream. ❤
Thank you for being here, Woopsik!
Forgot in the first battle to offer adding food to add strength.
Nice streamlined 4x. But in my opinion not as good as INTERVENTION - Reach for the stars as a quick shorter 4x game.
34:28 she cant explore there. She doesnt have control of adjected teritory
I wasn’t paying attention to what everyone was doing like I should’ve been. That’s my bad. I do understand how exploring works. Thanks for the feedback!
