This video is the fifteenth in a series of driver training videos provided by Irish School of Motoring which takes learner drivers through a sample test.
This video helped me greatly happy days. Now i know were I went wrong in my test. I hit 3 pedestrians, drove up a ramp into the open back of a furniture truck and and had a few Jagers too many before starting my test. I learned my lesson and wont fail again ;-)

I failed mine today after thinking I did well and it's a horrible feeling. This video makes it look really simple.
"now Gavin if you'd like to follow me into the men's room for the final part of your test"
Gary O Mahony brutal :D
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
gavin thats a big gear stick
Well, if it means he'll pass you...
passed my test there last week, 2nd time lucky. I noticed from both tests, the testers prefer if you use your handbrake more. Instead of staying in 1st gear when stopped they prefer if have your hand brake up. Just a heads up.
irishgirl999 irl yeah sometimes your better off using your handbrake at stop signs in case you don't stop fully with your foot brake
Yes, i had one minor because of the clutch
Thank you
I watched this video several times and even before my actual exam to relax myself and I passed my Irish exam yesterday! Thanks for sharing this video!!
Can I ask was any of the information out of date?
I failed my test on 2 previous occasions having paid for lessons, I watched this sample video the day before my test and I passed, great video
*_"That's fine Gavin, now I'd like you to get into the boot"_*
😂😂😂😂😂😂
In the test you spend half the time looking into the mirros instead of looking where your going
Paul FitzGerald is what i was thinking😂
Paul Fitz that’s just how they roll
Paul Fitz that’s just how they roll
Passed my test today on the second attempt (two months later) and this video was so helpful. Thank you.
Same as you, 2 months after failing first time. Great feeling. 😊
Years ago since recorded and this video is still great and useful! Thank you for creating this 🙌
Hello, is the test procedure still the same as of this video?
I just passed my test today in Raheny, all i did was to watch all your videos 2 hours before the test. Thanks very much for these very well presented online lessons!!! :)
Watched this video lastnight and passed first time round with no lessons, in Waterford, this morning. Excellent video , informative and straight to the point driving by the instructor (Gavin). Watch and listen to them all
Very helpful video, i hope to have a mock test on my RUclips channel soon!
Dane Tyghe i passed today on first try after watching your videos :) Thanks!
This video and the driver is the best. Have been doing driving test since 2008 watched several video and bought number of dvd drive test they were never helpful. I started watching this video 16 days to my test. Yesterday I passed my full licence test with the help of this video and the driver. He is a very good instructor. He knows how to explain about driving in details if you follow his instructions. Thank you man. I really appreciate you. I wish I know his name.
Finally i passed my driving licence 🇮🇪 and i would say your videos helped me alot.💚
45kmph in estates, I bet the residents love that.
that's exactly what I was thinking, bit much no?
@@RachelSorohan 45kmh you dickheads
KMPH? WTF? Idiot.
@@typhoontim125 calm down he made a mistake
I watched all your videos and practiced myself and I passed Thank you for your tips and advice
And also, its so opened to interpretation ... anyone can be failed on those ... absolutely anyoe. If a tester want's he can find faults with anything.
Goose , I got a straight grade 3 for finishing up a foot away from the kerb after the reverse around the corner
I passed my test thanks to these videos. I chose Airport for my EDT and it was a lousy experience.
Just passed my test in Dundalk.
Fund these videos extremely helpful.
Didn't take any real life lessons this time and haven't had a lesson since I last failed over two years ago.
Thanks very, very much!
Just past my test yesterday, after first attempt. thanks for very helpful video, kept watching it over and over :)
“That’s fine Gavin, now I’d like you to take off your shoes and socks for me please”
Passed my driving test today!!!!! thanks to the ism videos!
If only the instructors were this fucking nice they're usually horribly rude
And Gavin didn't stop at any junction he continued rolling
You don't have to stop at any junction if it is safe & the way is clear (unless there is a STOP sign). It's perfectly ok to keep rolling slowly & with care.
"You don't need to signal left to exit when going straight through a mini-roundabout" - many testers would would beg to differ on this!!!
Nonsense. You're always advised NOT to indicate when going straight through a mini roundabout. The reason is simple: Because of the roundabout's size, by the time you indicate to exit off the roundabout you are pretty much already off it. If exiting to the right or left you DO signal on the approach and keep that signal active until off the mini roundabout. Signalling on a mini roundabout is different to regular roundabouts.
Hi Gavin. I would like to thank you so much, after studying your videos yesterday, I passed my test this morning. So over the moon. Thank you again.
Passed test yesterday, and this videos was such a big help , thanks for your time to make such a informed video
This video is actually very helpful , I passed my test today and everything was excatly the same like in this video including theory questions
Driving test in Ireland is ridiculous ... tester is not accountable to anyone and can't be sued ... basically the test is not recorded on the video and they can do whatever the hell they want... i find it to be dodgy when someone has so much power, and no i do not believe in professional integrity of these guys.
Leinsterbaby aw did you fail?
J E passed second time, my opinion remains same tho :)
sued for what
Leinsterbaby mn.
if there was a quota how do you explain the wildly different percentages in different parts of the country.
That reverse around the corner was awful
0:37 he was waiting in that room with the lights off. also it looks more like a closet than an office
What happens in that closet stays in that closet...
hahahhahahaah only noticed. Funny
The mystery of the closet.
He made sure he got extra close to Gavin as he came in that door too
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've my test coming up and watching this video is helping im going to keep watching it over
How did you get on
My car wasn't ready in time so I couldn't take the test have to rebook it again
A mini-roundabout is treated exactly the same as a normal one. Not indicating on exit of a mini roundabout is a UK rule NOT Irish, you can get a grade 2 fault for this on a test
Not true.
45 km on estate roads? is that really necessary?
yeah, where did that speed come from? And did you see the road they said that on, there were bumper to bumper parked cars on both sides with space for only one vehicle between them lol
It's 30 km in residential, no matter what residential you are in...
45 in a rough area I suppose 😂😂😂😂
It's 30km in residential area but I have seen some old videos where they are talking about 50km so maybe it was allowed driving at 50km In some residential areas few years back.
It's not 30km in all residential areas. It's still 50km in most.
@@frankeeirish04 Be careful there. I literally got failed solely for doing 30-35 on some estate roads. No joke. An absolute wanker of a tester who should have been fired. But alas, they have no accountability so the whole test itself is just luck on the draw. A joke.
I failed mine three times. I'd recommend getting a few lessons and practise on your own a few times, the driving test in Ireland is ridiculously difficult and Strict. I can't wait to put my N plates up! 😥
Drive an automatic. Small bit pricey but well worth it =)
@Melissa Mc i am same lol :)
isn’t it illegal to drive unaccompanied when you’re a learner?
My test is in 12 days.
This video is very helpful.
Thank you!
It's mad. This video makes the driving test look mad handy
it is handy! :)
@@WagWanTeleban I beg to differ
I just passed my test today 2nd time Tnx to my wonderful instructor nd friend John nd Tnx to ur videos it helped me gain confidence I was feeling very nervous. Tnk u
These videos are great, thanks for uploading these. Have my driving test in the morning, took 2 lessons and one pre lesson in the morning before the test. Yoir videos have cleared up alot of questions I had, thanks again.
Very good video. I have only one issue: the driver does not indicate left before leaving mini roundabouts. (I spotted 2 occasions in the video where there was no left signal leaving the roundabout.) This is a fault. We are supposed to treat mini roundabouts the same as any other roundabout, although there is some leeway if its very tight involving a lot of steering. In this case, steering takes priority. However, a Senior Examiner told me that, if you are driving slowly enough in the mini roundabout, it should not be an issue.

"There is one main problem I have encountered in this video. Most intersections you have not come to a complete stop. In my country that would be a straight fail no questions asked".
It is not always necessary to come to a complete stop at a yield sign, for example, at an intersection. Come to a full stop at a stop sign of course (failure to do so will result in an immediate fail), but a yield sign allows a degree of leeway if their is no competing traffic. A degree of fluidity, within the boundaries of the roles, makes for better progress and a smoother driving experience overall. You seem to say that wherever you're from (America? Africa?) takes a different view. While this is of mild comparative interest, it is ultimately irrelevant as the rules of the road are set out in the Road Traffic Act (as amended) applicable in Ireland, not elsewhere!
He rarely, if ever, follows the MSMM routine when turning at junctions. Is this not a requirement?
msmm? what's that? I never go into first gear except when starting, this vid has me confused
A T GOSHO is better
Passed the driving test today and found this very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
He enters the junction while the light is green, giving him control of the junction while waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. He was correct to proceed with the right turn and clear the junction even though light turned red. Lights only control the entrance to a junction not the exit.
And if u look carefully he's already moving before light turns red
What’s the point in all them questions when you’ve done your learner already that should only be driving test ..
Keep you on your toes.
@Strange things are happening to Woody you can get a grade 2 on them, so you can get three grade 2 on stuff that isn't about your actually ability as a motorist, one more and you fail automatically because if you get four grade 2 on the same thing you fail
@Strange things are happening to Woody I'm from Ireland, doing my test in Ireland in a week, in Cork
mtd mca how’d it go? Cork based here too. Only starting my lessons soon
Just passed the test in kilkenny!!! these videos helped me so much.. I cant thank you enough... YIPPEEEE!!!
This guy is super friendly! Mine was like a robot. :)
Glad the videos could help! Congratulations! Happy Driving.
This video was very helpful passed my test first try a couple of days ago
Thank you for these videos! :) I started watching not even a week ago and my driving has already become all round a lot better :)
Followed all your videos and today I past my test thank you so much.
Passed my driving test. Thought this video really helped me.
Top of the mornin to ya..There are so many irregularities in this vid that it would take me all day to go through them. I note that it's titled as a Sample Test though.
But how could an unqualified driver arrive at the driving test centre by car..unaccompanied?
I think nearly everyone does haha!
honestopinion2012 Yes it is.
honestopinion2012 Because when I was a driving examiner I was aware of our responsibility to report anything illegal to the police and the DVLA.
honestopinion2012 You sound like you should not be on the road at all. Why can't you drive correctly and adhere to the law?
honestopinion2012 I was a DSA Driving Examiner for 26 years so no, I am not 'a bit slow'. We saw muppets like you every single day, and it was a real joy to tell them they had not passed the test.
Great practical video. Thanks for Ism indeed. Passed my test after watching these few times. Very useful.
Failed today and a mark was not being in 5th gear at 60k so watch out for that one
JTS I got the same mark for being in 4th gear on an 80km road that I’ve always been instructed to stay in 4th gear on.
I believe these marks are purely political.. I now refer to my tester as “Captain Planet”
@@Mountain-Mac 4th gear at 80km?! Ah jaysus you'll ruin the gears 5th gear at least
@@ilovestamon All cars are different, it usually depends on the gear ratio and everything else.
looks like a strange fail.
Who’s here because you got notified only 7 days for your test after cov 19 lockdown
Yup. 😭
Hahaha yeah I'm up next week aswel best of luck 👍
Had mine yesterday. Made a balls of somethibg. 3 grade 2s and 1 grade 3 😂 raging. If you haven't done the test before.. its not as bad as you think!
Just a note though, that some of the instructors are getting out of the car for the reverse around the corner (something to do with covid? Idk) but its giving some people a fright. Mine didn't but saw another one do it before me.
Amy Louise yeah had mine yesterday got 1 grade 3 absolutely bullying waited 4 months for nothing instructor also got out of the car whilst doing the around the corner will 100% pass next time good luck on yer next exams
I dont even no what grades are is it mistakes by how serious they are ?
Oh god. I remember i used to watch this religiously back in 2013 before i took my roadtest lol
Same here...except even before that!
Just passed my test today, thank you so much
I passed my test this morning in tallaght thanks to this vid advice for others check you shoulder/blind spot EVERY time you pull out
Your letter of application?
I was told that the click sound is not the right way to pull up the hand brake. Like your meant to not hear it click.
Clover its an opinionated thing really, no rules concerning it, my instructor teaches to not make the click for the simple reason that he doesnt like the sound, ive seen some other instructors make the click themselves
passed my test first time in Shannon today, this video helped a lot.
Thanks very much :) :)
No hill start and hand signals asked not very specific to traffic from behind. No need to take first right hand turn in 1st gear. Certainly no need for dipped headlights as visibility is very clear. Good drive though.
just keep cool about it mate . its not easy yes as the decision remains in their hands , just tell him or her you are the greatest until you get your licence .hope this helps . i totally agree with you safety should always come first .
Thanks so much Gavin! Passed the test yesterday, these videos really helped :) Safe driving!
Don't you have to be in first gear when stopping at traffic light? and don't you need to engage left hand signal when reversing around the corner? thanks for the reply!!!
No to both questions.
- You can choose neutral and apply the handbrake at a red light, but you should be constantly aware of the cross-traffic and select first gear in preparation for your green. You are also showing that you check left and right for red-light runners before entering the junction.
- You're already next to the kerb and it's no use signalling left to reverse.
No to both
pretty good guide gave me an idea of what to expect and i passed with 1 mark happy days its not as hard as you think :)
passed my test here today 1st time.and found this video very usefull.
you pass?
Videos excellent Ism instructer Albert Mulligan great instructer best would recommend highly !! Passed mine 2day buzzing
Do u need to know hand signals before test
great videos - clearly a good effort was made making them. were good resource. passed test the other day. thanks.
test on tomorrow, so stressed! this video helps when you cant really practice though :)
18:18 shouldnt he at 12 o clock, switched to left signal?
Thank you! Had no idea you had to approach T-Junctions in 1st gear!
Why does the video keep getting sucked into the driving examiner's ear?
OMG this is the easiest test route I've ever seen! So lucky :(
I failed my test today so sad, and these my second attempt. Hopefully to pass the third time.
19:47 how many focus saloons are there!?!? 😂
eoin730 hahahahah ridiculous
Where's the hill start?
Passed today on first try😁 thanks for the videos helped me a lot!
These videos are quite old… does the same rules apply
Used this DVD and passed my test first time. Thanks a mil for uploading same it was very helpful......Mary
Good man he indicated right when leaving the roundabout and quickly knocked it off 😂😂
It's a MINI roundabout! He drove it perfectly.
Should update this because a few things have changed since this was made.
have a question, if dont get any question on the road signs or the common questions, can u still pass?
I passed my test first time. And frightened the tester on the hill-start because the handbrake on my car was different to the norm. He saw me put the car in neutral and come off the footbrake.... but hadn't seen me apply the handbrake and half panicked because he thought it was about to roll back.
Making the tester jump out of his seat is generally a bad thing.
Well......did u pass your test ?????
just a question.. they failed me with 4 x's on the straight for driving around 30/35 in housing estates and the guy told me at the end I should have been going between 40/45. I think thats rediculous. I was driving with due care due to cars on each sides of the road and the possibility of kids running out from behind cars. anyone else have a view on this? I have my test again tomorrow if I get anymore bullshit excuses like this to fail me I am appealing it
Its double speak; incase youre passing all other aspects of the test they can turn around and say look here you failed on progress for driving too slow. they could arbitrarily fail you for driving without due care in the exact same situation. What a scam.
id have called for supervisor
Is this the Dún Laoghaire track or where??
It's Raheny, on the Northside of Dublin
"When should you use your dipped head lights"? Only when you're not using your full lights, you should use them at all times.
Thats not true
@@mrbilly3680 Notice I used the word "should" rather than "must".
@Luke Kelly, when your driving in normal weather conditions during daylight you dont use the dipped lights nor the full headlights.
@@mrbilly3680 I use them at all times. On a bright sunny day any vehicle along with cyclists with no lights on could be hidden in the shadow of buildings or trees. Why do you think bikers, police and all emergency vehicles use them at all times? It's not illegal to use them and doesn't cost. They can save lives and injuries, even at day time.
Not saying you didn't stop at the stop sign because you did, just saying that even if the intersection doesn't have a stop sign in my country, you still have to come to a complete stop. I am curious why is that so in my country?
Gavin didn't do his hill start
Do they still do the "theory test" part at the start of the video? Or is that gone now due to the separate theory test?
20:17 again, mini roundabout, but for 12:00 clock, a signal not needed?
ok 24:37 says no indicators are required for going straight on a mini round about 👍
ive got my test on thursday,, really stressed any tips guys?
try not to fail it
no no bit late
Rodmaster144 The video was helpful itself but you can check out renkarter driver success report on google.
Question if possible? At the rotor the closed outlets are calculated with the outlets that are available or only the available outlets are calculated
Can you repeat that in English please. And preferably sober.
thanks to Ism that i passed my test in tallaght dublin today
in few hours is my third test.... hopefully will pass.... the last one was failed in the most stupid way... half of them grades aren't even true.... so to me it feels they want to fail you if possible, they will find any reason to do so.... don't know what to expect today... need my licence so much because I have to drive to work...if I won't pass I have to leave my job unfortunately .... fingers crossed
Did you pass?
