Wow what a wonderful set! I'm amazed at how exactly it looks like the real thing despite having that Technic look. I was skeptical when you mentioned that the droideka could open up automatically so when you showed footage of it rolling into deployment I was gob smacked! I would love to see reviews of the other Star Wars Technic sets since I hardly ever think about them and I haven't heard much talk of them from the community until this video.

It´s amazing what Lego was able to pull out back in the day, really wish that they would have evolve to the present with all the new pieces and stuff

Changing out the brown parts with proper panels, a bit more plates to hide the technic elsewhere, proper claw feet, and you'd have a 10/10 set.
This is really the most obscure and unfairly overlooked Lego Star Wars set ever. (together with the motorized AT-AT)
Truly shows that they managed to nail the Droideka exactly once in large scale and mini scale on their first try, and all versions after are just horrible.

YT randomly showed your video to me. After 24 yrs resting in a case (yeah, I'm not a lego builder anymore hahaha), I decided to find it and build it again! It was worth every second and tear of emotion... it reminded me of my childhood watching Phantom Menace with my friends. Now it will stay at my office as a nice reminder that I need to have more fun. Thanks for your video.. It made my day :)
ps: great review of the model... great video. As someone that is far from Lego, your video was entertaining and super fun!

Nice! I just pulled the parts out of my own basement tub and reassembled. Rubber bands are gone and my current replacements are finicky (being off-sized), but yeah it’s fun stuff

As soon as I saw the Destroyer Droid in the Phantom Menace I just loved it. I was super excited when I got this set for my birthday as a child, but one of the bag was missing (I had instead the same bag twice) so I could never build it fully, contacting Lego was useless and since it was a birthday gift we couldn't get the receipt to exchange it in store...

It doesn't really "roll" then deploy as much as it does a single somersault.

Never saw this set covered here, but it is definitely surreal to see it now. As is how many of the elements in "Earth orange" (also called "Old Brown" or "Mata brown") are exclusive to this set. Not to mention that the Technic offset axle connector in that color also appears in an "Orient Expedition" set (7416) from mid-2003, but nowhere else after that.

I got two of these droidekas for cheap last year. Very cool sets. The Droideka set had some quality issues so they added that DLC booklet and rubber bands for newer runs of the set. Mainly the head is slightly different with amendment booklet. I recommend Hailfire droid from this line too. One of the more enjoyable technic builds there is.

Vintage ha ha. I remember having this as a kid. I remember it was always a nightmare to get it to fold up properly but thought it was a great set. When I came back to it many years later (though still years ago) all the rubber bands had gone hard and fell to bits.
Mine didn't have the amended booklet back then, I wonder if that was the fix that made the roll function work properly.
I found my 4481 Hailfire Droid recently when I was moving house. Totally forgot I had that. I bet IO have some of the older X-Wings and such too somewhere. Maybe the original Podracers too.

You didnt fold the arms in. If i remember correctly there are two black ball pins on the arms that lock into the L technic piece on the neck. When u roll it the arms release and help fling the guns out. Its been 20 years but i think thats right lol
