1. dont bring PLANE DIRECTLY back to your carrier..Make then jump 1 direction then correct later AFTER they are away from battle areas.. If you dont, they can figure out your location.. 2. KEEP MOVING..use your Scouts...also, NEVER send them directly OUT to a location..Jump to one location, then TO the area you wish to scout.. Moving or not, you are a LARGE target...your PLANES are targets..your only advantage, is if... 1. someone is willing to protect you and your area.. 2. you GET SNEAKY
***** That way, with some teamwork, you can also employ a tactic used in the Pacific during WW2 called "delousing": you can find enemy carriers by following their returning strike flights. To avoid it being used against you, simply fly your returning planes over a friendly ship with attendant CAP
no you idiot learn your history it was a Naval ships with the same name Uss.Langley and it was a battleship and so they basically cut the smoke stacks off and put a sturdy roof on it and called it a aircraft carrier
Been playing WOrld of tanks for 5 years and love it. Starting playing warships recently and I like it a lot. Not as good as tanks in my personal opinion but still good just different. I have been hearing rumors for years about integrating warplanes and warships. Would be cool to see how that would work. Have also heard rumors about all three into one but I fail to see how tanks would play into it unless it was some sort of massive battle but I would think they would have to totally restructure the game play and make some massive changes (adding anti aircraft tanks)to make it work.
As a Navy vet, I wanted to say that the USS Langley was the hull of a coal tender. They were the widest of the time as most ships of the day had coal burning boilers. The Langley was also sunk due to enemy action but the rest of your video was on on point.
Just a couple of historical corrections. The Jupiter was a collier, i.e. a ship designed to transport coal. Of course by the time WWII broke out every old warship that was still coal-fired had been converted to burn oil. Which means that in the interwar years colliers were no longer needed and therefore they were either scrapped or converted to something else. Carriers converted from transports or oilers made pretty lousy warships: because of their slow speed and smaller size, they were unsuitable for fleet operations in WWII. The US Navy had lots of these converted carriers, dubbed CVE (escort carriers, nicknamed "jeep carriers.") They were either used to ferry planes from point A to point B or to hunt submarines, as part of highly-specialized sub-hunting fleets. But they were extremely fast to build, which is why a whopping 122 were made in the US. The Independence class wasn't designed as a carrier. It was also a conversion, but from a much faster and sleeker cruiser hull. More specifically, they were originally meant to be Cleveland-class light cruisers. None of the ships were completed as cruisers, conversion began while they were still under construction. With a top speed of about 31 knots (only about 1.5 knots slower than Cleveland-class cruisers), they could easily keep pace with the larger fleet carriers, even though they could carry a lot less planes (typically about 35, including 2-3 spares, vs. 90-100, including 5-6 spares, for the Essex class.)
sir charles there is a game mode in robocraft (game where you build your own tank/whatever kidna like banjo kazooie nuts and bolts) where you are a bunch of low tiers fighting against 1-3 higher tier enemies
Peter Griffin But I'd assume the tier 10 has more guns that deal more damage and has more heatlh bars than all the other ships. If tier 3 is too high maybe tier 2 or 1? There has to be a challenge in there somewhere!
Thanks for the guide. As for carrier development in the USN like you mentioned. Langley was a converted Colier (bulk transport of coal to refuel ships) and the Lexington class (Lexiongton and Saratoga) were converted battlecruiers that had been canceled due to the Washington Naval Treaty. USS Ranger was the first purpose built carrier in the USN, though some later ships were still converted cruisers or purpose built based on cruiser hulls
The Jupiter was a coal hauler, for when ships were fueled by coal instead of oil. Baron, that was by far the best carrier battle I have seen so far. Nice job!
Baron would love to see Destroyers next especially as they have torpedoes being able to use the smoke to sneak up on enemies then torpedoing them at close range would be so effective. Like a hit and run tactic could be used on battleships as they r slow and slow moving guns
hey baron when using the torpedo bombers for manual not auto it allows you to drop torpedoes in a tighter spread means more hits, auto does a wider spread so less hits
I know this is like two weeks late, but the thing I'm looking forward to most is throwing the autopilot off battleship as well, and firing him when he makes it back to port, LOL. I laughed so hard I had tears! keep these up man!
If I am not mistaken, the Independence, like Langley, was also NOT purpose built carrier (light carrier actually). They were originally a class of light cruisers which were still under construction when they changed them to carriers. Quite similar to Lexington class which were supposed to be battlecruisers. I am sure that the Yorktown was the first class of American purpose built carriers.
Yea the Langley was an ex coal collier that they converted, the first American purpose built carrier was the Ranger meaning from keel to finish it was purpose built.
The USS Langley CV-1 was Americas very first aircraft carrier. she was launched in 1911 as a collier (coal carrying cargo ship) named the USS Jupiter, and was later retrofitted to be a carrier in 1920 and renamed Langley
Got my first carrier today.. I played this game on release then quit it, came back last week and thought "I should try carriers" and man, my favourite 'class' to play! I love watching over the battle, keeping vision, providing support and all that nice stuff. Destroyers are great run and gun fun and battle ships are great at just one shotting bitches but man, carriers are just perfect for my style of play!
you shoudl watch some of those carrier torpedo vids on how to get nearly all your torps to hit a ship by getting your planes tightly packed and dropping the torps from a closer distance
USS Langley (CV-1/AV-3) was the United States Navy's first aircraft carrier, converted in 1920 from the collier USS Jupiter (AC-3), and also the U.S. Navy's first electrically propelled ship.
How do you change the attack route of the torpedo bombers? it looks like you can choose where they lay the torpedoes but when i try they just do it automatically :(
You want to launch torps from 2 side in like a V shape so one from port one from starboard from about 45 degrees to the aft of the target, that way most likely it wont dodge any of them
I've seen in several videos you can bring in planes on one approach vector, but modify their attack direction in the circle wheel Ui thingy that pops up, (or rotate a manual torp drop aim in manual), but what are the controls for that, can;t seem to figure it out in game.
USS Langley was the United States Navy's first aircraft carrier, converted in 1920 from the collier( bulk cargo ship designed to carry coal ) USS Jupiter (AC-3)
My advice for whats it is worth...if you a carrier...or any ship for that matter...ALWAYS keep moving, your not playing WoT, don't stop or hide behind an island. Use your map and set waypoints by using the shift key. That way you can set a loop or a path where your ship will sail on it's own allowing you to work your planes. I stopped ship, is a sunk ship.
Really neat game play there! I saw on another video that it is possible to manually control torpedo bombers and that allows the weapons to be dropped much closer in. Can you tell me anything about that?
I would love to see you rock some Destroyers man. They look so awesome if you can hunt at enemy carrier. Its like the total opposite of Light Tanks which are useless.
I don't play the game, but I've watched other videos. Baron, I think there's a way to manually drop torpedos, so you can be much closer and possibly get more torpedo hits.
there should be more options with torpedo bombers than just that 6 slightly spread out run like you set a tight strait forward launching pattern with all the torpedoes going in the same direction for slow or stationary ships while the spread out attack for ships on thee move or in groups
do the avenger torpedo bombers later on have back gunners? would be a strategy to get 3 squads of them and let them flight in formation against fighters ya know?
Great gameplay. Carriers seem to be for the more defensive players who are better at strategy and support, though I can say that I'm not one of them. Would still like to try them, see what works and how good I'm at planning (guessing not that good ;D).
I feel like they made each class like in world of tanks, Destroyer- Light/Scout, Cruiser- Medium, Battleship-Heavy. The only thing they are missing are Submarines which would be related to Tank Destroyers
+CircleOfSorrow Historical accuracy actually says no. By the time in 1944, fighting has losed in on to major airfields where most of the planes were actually land based. At least from what I know, there was never a dedicated kamikaze squadron onboard Japanese carriers. Further more by then, fuel shortages made use of carriers far too costly. Especially when land bases are available due to fighting in home waters. Another major factor i pilot training, carrier operations are very hard to learn. Not only are there too little pilots to even have a full complement, some carriers like Unryuu, never even recieved a proper batch of pilots. Now what you are saying is that they would throw away pilots that spent much more time training than it would for operating from land. Carrier operation is much more complex, thus carrier pilots are much higher valued and difficult to train. Even if those pilots were swapped to kamikaze, it would be wasting carriers as there would be no returning planes to defend the carrier return trip.
Neurofied Yamato You mean only the humans of a lesser value would of been used to suicide crash into enemy ships? That sounds like something a Japanese person would say. I think if you read about the subject, you may find that before the official suicide units were formed, there were pilots that made it known that they would deliberately crash their plane into an enemy ship if the opportunity to do so existed and damage taken meant that they were unlikely to return intact. The military command discouraged this attitude, as aircraft are very valuable and expensive to replace, so thought all efforts should be made to return. It was not until the most desperate stages of the war that specialized kamikaze units were formed with aircraft built for task, even though the practice had existed voluntarily before this point.
CircleOfSorrow Please do note, I'm referring to the considerations of the Japanese high command, not my personal opinion as kamikaze in general was a waste of life. It would be viewed as too long and costly to use carrier based pilots for such a task instead of land based pilots. And saying that something like this sounds like it would come out of a Japanese is a very rude thing to say. Furthermore, kamikaze pilots are even trained less than normal land based pilots since they did not have to undergo much if any fighter tactics. The only tactics in aerial combat or bombing was from those that were swapped. And what does those that deliberately crashed on to ships due to battle damage have to do? They fought and were either left too damaged, or low on fuel, so the kamikaze. That means kamikaze should be added? Well did you know a US B-26 was going down during midway and attempted to crash on to Akagi's bridge but missed only by a feet? So are the US going to get kamikaze? If they did no fly out intentionally crashing on to enemy shipping it's not kamikaze because it's not a suicide mission from the start. No because normally it would be a bombing mission and kamikaze being a last attempt to deal damage before going down. Also as for returning after kamikaze missions, some guy returned 9 times and was shot. they tell you not to waste lives but they are going to kill you regardless for either cowardice or series of failure. The only specially built kamikaze were the Ohka rocket bombs and I assure you they were no less cheaper than conventional aircraft, simpler yes, but cheaper, not exactly. Not that it actually matter sicnethe only specially designed kamikaze aircraft is not even carrier based. Most were modified conventional aircraft. My point stands.
Prob a dumb question but how are you rotating around the aim circle when determining the direction you wan't your torps launched from ? I don't see it in controls . I can aim it manually but then it changes from a wedge to a rectangle .
So... The aircraft carriers are the equivalent of the SPG's, the destroyers are equivalent to light tanks, cruisers to medium tanks, and battleships to heavies? What will be the equivalent to tank destroyers (if there is one), or what would you want it to be?
for world of warships you should use manual torpedo launch and also it is a good idea to have your torpedo bombers as close as possible to have 12 torpedoes coming at him at once. for destroyers turn of your AA because they make you show up on radar ruining you main advantage of stealth and they rarely shoot down planes. your channel is awesome please send me a code it seams like a fun game
How are you rotating the target attack angle? I see your are moving the mouse around the outside of the big dotted circle, but I can't seem to get in that "mode". I know you can manually drop with ALT, but when I hold ALT my screen doesn't look like that where I can rotate the attack angle from the outer circle. Thanks
Baron or anyone could please explain me that at 6:40 how did Baron turn the angle and way of torperdo manually. I mean I really wanna know scratch from base that turning of torpedo way thing please thanks....
Is there a way I can decide in what direction my bombers drop their torpedo? I can only figure out how to drop them over empty sea and in front of ships.

Im not in the game yet..but you should be able to route them..I would HOPE
"Ahhhhh just the tip to see how it feels!" I laughed. Ty for that.
Chris Kozma Same here, that was unexpectingly funny :)
This looks a lot more fun than the aircraft carrier gameplay there is now.
The Langley was a converted collier. Collier is a coal hauling ship.
Ken Dawg Thanks for the historical context mate o7
She was also CV number one. Then demoted to a seaplane tender. Later sunk by the Japanese in ww2,
The USS Jupiter had 3 sister ship all of which disappeared in the Bermuda triangle.

nice job baron as allways. you are awesome ;)

Looks fun, really like the top-down element of controlling the planes.
USS Langley was a collier (coal ship) before conversion and was called the USS Jupiter, a sister ship to the infamous USS Cyclops.
Never heard of this game before. thank you for introducing me to it! Will definitely watch more of your videos :) Subscribed

I like the different skill set needed for the carrier battles. Interesting to try an all-fighter battle and just target enemy torpedo/bomber planes.
Hey Baron, The Langley started off as a fleet collier named USS Jupiter.
It's awesome how they improved the AC gameplay
I have always wanted a warship game to come out. I'm excited for this game!
Regarding the Jupiter.. It says in the description that it was a collier; a ship that would carry coal to fuel other ships in a task force.
Can you get an AA upgrade for the Essex? The basic ship appears to be missing the outboard quad 40mm mounts.
USS Langley was the United States Navy's first aircraft carrier, converted in 1920 from the collier( bulk cargo ship designed to carry coal ) USS Jupiter (AC-3)

When I play the destroyer or light cruiser first thing on the to do list is send the Mighty torpedus after carriers

I really hope that when WT ships comes out they make the carrier game play like Battlestations: Midway.
A collier ship is a coal ship which was used before they had oil or diesel ships.
It's a lot like The Battlestations series. I love that series so I really like them bringing it back.
BVG do you believe submariner should be included in this game?
there should be more options with torpedo bombers than just that 6 slightly spread out run like you set a tight strait forward launching pattern with all the torpedoes going in the same direction for slow or stationary ships while the spread out attack for ships on thee move or in groups
The Jupiter was a Colier. AKA a coaler or a ship that was built to carry coal.
How do you change your load out in Langley ? Change up what planes you want to equip???
Great video, looking forward to more!
do the avenger torpedo bombers later on have back gunners? would be a strategy to get 3 squads of them and let them flight in formation against fighters ya know?

great video..but manual aim is where is at...dont forget on auto aim you can move the tab on the circle to change the angle too
Independence class light carriers is actually based on the hull of the clevelands.
I feel like they made each class like in world of tanks, Destroyer- Light/Scout, Cruiser- Medium, Battleship-Heavy. The only thing they are missing are Submarines which would be related to Tank Destroyers

how u turn around the ship with ur plane, for me i can only select 1 angle or use alt
Dimitri Danni plox? help
This game looks great! I'd love to see more!

I'm not sure what I would be good at I like offence but also like laying back. What class should I be?
Is there a way I can decide in what direction my bombers drop their torpedo?
I can only figure out how to drop them over empty sea and in front of ships.
after 2 hours it finally installed and I'm pumped.
It is kind of odd that they list a 1944 hull upgrade. The USS Langley was converted to a seaplane tender in 1937 and was sunk in 1942.
