I do like how Japan has this touristy thing (hard to describe a right word) for their food where you can only get "proper" versions of certain foods in areas you have to travel to get to. It gives little places their own identity and reason to travel to. Also loved Satoshi in this video, what a guy lol
Oh yes, there are people, and not retirees either, who use up their vacation time flying to various countries to eat dishes and delicacies authentically prepared and presented. Personally I don't have the time, money or inclination for food tourism, and only wish that those who can and do....not rub it in the faces of people unable to do the same. Not referring to you at all but to a very attitudinal woman from Down Under with whom I once had an exchange of words, who really should have kept her obnoxious mouth shut.
The Izumo Taisha shrine was absolutely beautiful. Just to touch that kind of history would be amazing. And Satoshi looked so happy to be on that old train.😊
What a gorgeous natural setting for one of Japan's oldest shrines! The Taisha Zukuri architecture is so graceful and iconic. I really wish I'd been with you to visit Izumo Taisha--I'm an animist by nature, and Shinto is so comfortable for me and yet I've never been to a shrine. The soba was interesting--so many varieties. While I'm not a fan of "slimy" textures, I'll definitely try natto, mountain yam, and raw egg if I ever make it to Japan--they may end up changing my mind. Thank you so much for another lovely, peaceful video.❤️❤️
I always enjoy all of your videos. That old train was very impressive. Built in 1928, and retired in 2009. A testament to excellent design, engineering and maintenance. Here in Connecticut your videos always come on late at night and I go to sleep thinking about the delicious food that you just ate!
You can buy dried soba from a Japanese store in your area. I bought two, one with matcha and another 100% soba (no wheat like most dried soba packages). I follow Just One Cookbook to make it cold or as a soup. A soba shop outside of the Kameido train station in Tokyo was serving a set for 350 yen in 2019 when I was in Japan. That was very cheap compared to ramen or Coco Curry.
This is amazing. What I love about your videos (all channels) is that I can see what it's like if I'm there! Also helps me gauge how many English signs are around, menus, etc. As a tourist who doesn't want to do a tourist package and explore on their own, this is helpful!
Perfect timing to end the evening with yet another wonderful video. I was just watching the one with the chocolates soo good too! Have a beautiful Thursday Shinichi and Satoshi! Greetings from WINDY Oklahoma Nat&Stan
This was a very interesting video. I have so many questions about the shrine. I will save them for Google. It is beautiful and surrounded by the beauty of nature. I would have to choose both desserts. Both looked good. Thank you.
Zenzai looks really good. Here in The Netherlands we have something vaguely similar, which is brown bean soup. So I can imagine the flavour of zenzai a little bit. Thanks for putting yet another place on my todo list 😍
Yes, looked like a small dog (Pomeranian maybe?) …you can just see it near the lower right hand side of the video…someone is holding the dog in their arms 🐶
Thank you for the visit. The first time I tried natto I did not like it. Then I tried it again and appreciated it. Good taste and texture, funny smell until you eat it.
Wow that was a hearty serving of soba. 5 bowls filled with goodness. I would need a nap after that. But I love the idea of all the different toppings. Each bowl with its own flavor profile. Sometimes just one big bowl of the same thing gets boring half way through.
I love Japan I think that it is the most beautiful country and I’m so sorry I never got to visit in my lifetime. As for the food I can’t eat raw eggs because I don’t like anything slimy but I will eat anything Tempura and I enjoy red bean deserts. Thank you for bring me on this trip❤️👏🏼👍🏻😷👵🏻🇺🇸 I always enjoy your channel.
What a beautiful video, love the train station art deco building are my favorite Era the old train was an added bonus ❤️. Izumi shrine is a beautiful walk after a kings meal . 😀 l would love to try traditional Zenzai dessert , I'm so intrigued .
What a beautiful area! The zenzai looks so appetizing to me, even though I have never eaten sweetened adzuki beans in my life. In my imagination they taste amazing ;-) Is there any filling in the mochi rice cakes?
Oh wow! You guys made it to Izumo shrine! Are you gonna cover more of this trip on Tabieats channel? I would love to see more of this. The atmosphere of this place feels really different from the other places you have been, it feels sacred somehow. That huge white torii looks kinda scary and threatening. The huge ropey thing is also very impressive, it's like the body of a giant snake entwining. I thought the shrine building would look taller though 🤔 And of course, let's not forget the food! Such delicious looking soba, you guys ate so much haha😂 Love the sight of Satoshi vibing in the old train.
lol. You answered each question I asked in my head. I was wondering why Japanese could eat raw eggs and they tell us here in US not to eat raw eggs. Also, I lived in Tokyo for 2 years, and Mom wondered about the slurping of noodles. You answered that question too. I wish I had been more adventurous when I lived there. I'm going to try and find a Japanese restaurant here where I live. It just looks so good. Do you have bad restaurants????? Thanks for all you guys do. Thanks for all the descriptions. Take care.
I think if a place is bad, or not to their liking, they just won’t show that place in the video. I’ve heard several you-tubers say they’d rather not mention a place at all rather than say anything outright negative as it might be a matter of personal preference rather than truly bad food, etc.
@@immakatlady8243 I agree.. when it comes to Japanese restaurants, I don't think I've ever encountered any bad ones because they're all awesome! ❤️❤️❤️
Such a beautiful temple and the soba looked interesting (not a fan of the yam texture), but the mochi bean soup (which is what we still call it 😄❤️😄) looked delicious! Thank you for a lovely video!
I have not tried natto in years and years. I was very young when I tried it and didn’t like it then. I may try it again, if I can find it here in the states.
Watching the end of this video was sheer torture for me. Zensai is one of my two favorite Japanese desserts, next to Kashiwa mochi. I also learned something important today......that zensai originated in Izumo.
Being a little Japanese, I am not a fan of “runny egg yolk”. These videos with it makes me want to try it. I know eggs in Japan and cleaned really good. The Soba does look good!
I love that old train ! IF I could only pick one baked good to eat for the rest of my life it would be a croissant or Taiyaki 🐟 ! I will have to go out for Hopefully" Izumo " Soba Noodles. !!!
Wow, that train ran until 2009? It's such a quaint looking train :D It would be a lot of food but I would love to order that soba with assorted toppings :D I wonder if it can be ordered for 2 people to share.
I was looking at the bean roulade and I'm not sure it's the same procedure as baking a classic sweet roulade. It seemed to me that the dough in your case was not quite rolled up and was made of 2 pieces. I'm quite interested in what the procedure was.
personally i dont like natto even though i had it with rice n nori..but i think the strong buckwheat noodles might help combat that slimy n strong nutty taste of natto..i guess i could give it a try again..
I've always loved your videos! I wish you wouldn't cold open with all the stuff you eat, it kinda spoils the surprise for me. I like finding out as you go along.
Shoto Todoroki love soba Me: hi todoroki Todoroki: Hello Me: i have something to you Todoroki : What is it Me: look it's soba Todoroki : what, wow i love soba Me: me too i love soba too Me and Todoroki: Mmm, yummy soba 🍜🍜

Haven’t been this early ever! Everything looks wonderful, especially the food! Hoping to visit Japan one day.
I want to visit Japan since o was 7 years old

I have seen the videos on your other channels, but the quiet ones are the best! Thank you for a beautiful video 😻😻😻
Thanks for the awesome food adventure and shrine visit. Super cool to see different parts of Japan.

Thank you so much for sharing the historic train!!! It was so beautiful!
For sure I will try it when visiting Japan! Thanks
Ahh just found your channel and I am loving your videos. I love how quiet and natural they are.
the next place to go for my next japan trip. i love japan
Honestly I enjoy that Japan allows slurping because that's the best way to experience a meal when you have nothing to eat
the town is so clean, refreshing and peaceful
Satoshi was probably in heaven with the train.
Definitely want to try the “sampler soba”
Lovely soba! Thanks for sharing!
I love that old train! Love my ramen noodles with onions, always makes me feel better when I have a cold🥶
I love the colored windows in the station!
I love passion fruit and the fishcake looks great. Thank you for the tour. The traditional Zenzai would be my choice.
9:01 as someone who loves noodles, this is heaven!
At the end, it reminds me of the train station in Spirited Away with the stained glass windows.. so peaceful, pretty video.
i love noodles the soba with diff toppings looked so good yama imo, natto shiso, mushrooms n daikon oroshi gave me ideas o how to eat my soba
2:02 I have never been to Japan, but this sight looks very familiar. Like I've seen It before.
This was a very interesting video. I have so many questions about the shrine. I will save them for Google. It is beautiful and surrounded by the beauty of nature. I would have to choose both desserts. Both looked good. Thank you.
Fish cake.... I love that! I love your vlogs and eagerly check back to see what else is posted. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. Izumo-Taisha is quite far from Tokyo but I would love to visit there if Japan opens the boarder for tourists (for real) again.
Yummie everything look delicious thanks for sharing this video with us all 😘😘❤️👍🥰🤩
Wow, the noodles look super good. You can really eat!
Zenzai looks really good. Here in The Netherlands we have something vaguely similar, which is brown bean soup. So I can imagine the flavour of zenzai a little bit.

They looked a bit dry, but still good. I'm curious, what was that sound about the 16:50 mark, a dog?

My fave soba noodle is the one with katsuobushi (shaved dried fish), umeboshi (pickled Japanese plum) and nori (dried seaweed) strips.
👀😋Delicious foods in your amazing adventures across Japan-STAY SAFE wherever you go!!!!!👏👏🤙⚡️
I am Brazilian and I love natto! Everything looks very tasty in this video.
Oh, the train station reminds me the one in "Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi". Lovely
Thank you for the video! Zanzai looks extremely yummy. Wanted it while watching😉

Interesting. Thank you
Oh my goodness! Those soba noodles looks so good! 😋
Great video, thank you. I eat natto 3 times a week for health reasons. I add extra karashi. Stay safe from Pennsylvania 🇺🇸
My all-time fave noodels are soba (buckwheat). Keep up the awesome work. And, take care.

the shrine and the food were lovely, but i'm still so caught up in the station and the old train. I kept gasping,, 'It's like Spirited Away!' XD

I like natto with the intense mustardy sauce!
I'd love to visit Izumo Taisha! I must do

Natto's flavor reminds me of blue cheese,. I can take it or leave it

Few things can effectively soothe the disappointment of a closed train station: alcohol, chocolate or bakery goodies.
Your soba noodles are dark like my granfather handmade at home. The soba served now is light and has little buckwheat favor.
