I love this book so much. It's been my absolute favorite and the first book of the redwall series I read. You did an amazing job on this, I just can't just explain how much I love this
Fantastic Job! I really felt the emotions in their expressions and it brought me back to the book hard, all the feels. Wish you could do a full-length Redwall animation (like a whole book) with voice actors and stuff but I'm willing to bet you don't have the time or money for that. Great job and keep it up!
I watched this while listening to the scene in the audiobook. It's astounding how well it fits. I wish they'd come back and remake this, with the voice lines from the audiobook interlaced with the action.
This is absolutely incredible! Everything about it-the art style, the immediacy of the bits you chose, the expressions and dynamic poses. Amazingly done!!!
Hell yeah! I've never wanted a redwall movie so much in my life. oh how i wish redwall hadn't missed the internet fandom train, or we'd have had even more stuff like this to enjoy
This is amazing! I've always wanted to do something like this for the redwall novels. I hope someday we can get some animated movies. The TV show never really got too far into the series, sadly.
Netflix bought the rights of the books and are creating a movie on Redwall and a series for Martin the Warrior. They just announced it a year ago so I'm eager to see how it turns out
Like lightning the otter charged past him, whirling the sword, his voice roaring like thunder upon the wind. "Vallug Bowbeast, 'tis death to you! I am Taggerung! Juskaaaaaaaaa!"
Taggerung was my favorite Redwall story- also the first I read. I'm amazed they never made it into a film. With CGI now I would love to see this one as realistic as it can get. Why haven't they done this amazing story yet???
That was soooo cool! Was this for fun? Or was this for a project? I'd love to see this animated with voice actors. Man, maybe you could kickstart a redwall Web series.
SUPER OTTER!!! XXXD Why are they so damn cool, darn it Rachel! You're making me want to create a character based on that species now...! As curious as I am, I second what Nushi A. said, was this done for your own practice/entertainment or for business aka professional project?
+Elson Wong Personal project that's been smoldering on the backburner in idea form for too many years. I also needed the artistic "weightlifting" and my portfolio needed newer work in it, so benefits all around. X)
+strongrudder Sweet, love those win-win situations. :D I watched it again as I got back from work at the casino. I can see the creative process behind this after reading on the fact that you had listened to this track for a very long time. It's the same feeling I get for the comic/audio dramas - connecting the two dots between the music and art is such an amazing feeling. Anyways it's 2AM and I'm not sleepy yet, time to get back into BtWD! X3 *puts headphones and edits*
This was truly wonderful. It's made me excited to work on my own storyboard! How do you get the music to line up with the animatic so well? Or did you time the animatic to the music?
+Ben Scribner It was timed to the music, yep. When I bought the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack ages ago, I was doing a manual-labor sort of summer job, and listened to it pretty much on repeat that whole summer. I also happened to do a Taggerung rereading at the time for fun, and at some point my mind hooked up the sword-grabbing moment with a certain dramatic peak in one of the tracks. I liked that, and thought the part that immediately followed would also match the book scene. I dove more actively into seeing if the whole song might possibly line up in a sensible way, and eventually wrote down a beat list of the entire scene - actions with the timecode in the song next to them. This sat in a notebook for several years, with an editing pass in the middle somewhere when I rediscovered the notebook but left the idea on the backburner. Then late last year I found it again, and transcribed it into my current sketchbook (since that old notebook was falling apart). I didn't forget it again this time, and finally had the time to do something about it these past couple months. Sorry for the novel, but that should about cover it. X)
+strongrudder Very cool! If you're up to answer another question, I was wondering how you put the final thing together? I've made a storyboard using photoshop and windows movie maker, which isn't very easy and nearly very professional. For example, when Tagg runs around or when Broggle moves to unlatch the door? How do you make that work?
Ben Scribner I have the CS4 production suite, so drawings were Photoshop, editing/compositing was After Effects. I hadn't used the latter much, so it was a learning experience. The two play very nicely together - you can import PSDs and the layers will maintain their transparency and everything.
I joke, but seriously... the PBS series doesn’t even hold a candle to this tier of cinematography. I think I’ve watched this 10 times now in 1 hour, now.
@@strongrudder Oh no, the fault is all mine. I saw the spoiler tag clear as day. I’ve just gotten in a really strong Redwall mood lately, and this came up. I guess I’ll have to read Taggerung now.
I was TRYING to search youtube for something completely different, but my brain decided to write "taggerung" instead, and now I'm here.
Beautiful!!! And from my favorite Redwall book!!!!!
I love this book so much. It's been my absolute favorite and the first book of the redwall series I read. You did an amazing job on this, I just can't just explain how much I love this

This is my favorite thing. you gave animation to one of the most badass scenes from my childhood
oh my goodness i'd watch an entire film of this!!
Amazing work!
Fantastic Job! I really felt the emotions in their expressions and it brought me back to the book hard, all the feels. I knew it was Redwall! This is beautifully done! Thank you so much for creating this epic moment!
I love everything about that shot at 2:27. The build-up, the music, the angle, the expression, the animation, it’s just such a perfect moment
I watched this while listening to the scene in the audiobook. It's astounding how well it fits. I wish they'd come back and remake this, with the voice lines from the audiobook interlaced with the action.
HELL YEAH. REDWALL STUFF. Great interpretation of the scene! So good!
This was very well done! I remember this scene in the book and this is exactly how I pictured it! Epic and phenomenal. The return of the Taggerung!
This is one of my favorite Redwall books, maybe even just one of my favorite books, ever
This is absolutely incredible! Everything about it-the art style, the immediacy of the bits you chose, the expressions and dynamic poses. Amazingly done!!!
This is amazing! Well done! I wish I could like this video multiple times!

Impressive! 'Taggerung' is one of the novels I wish had gotten an animated adaption.
This is amazing, a very well made animatic for a book series I very much loved as a kid
Oh how I wish I could favorite this for each time I watch it! Beautiful even after all these years?
Hell yeah! I've never wanted a redwall movie so much in my life. oh how i wish redwall hadn't missed the internet fandom train, or we'd have had even more stuff like this to enjoy
I'm sure Brian would be pleased that there would be one.
How am I only seeing this seven years later? GREAT job
You are really a fantastic artist.

This is amazing! I would watch the entire story like this, and the music was a perfect choice for this sequence. Aw man, I'm floored... good job mate!
This is amazing! I got chills!
Wicked cool. On of my fave scenes from my fave book. If you can, you should do the rest of the book. This left me wanting more.
There is so much to like about this animatic! The pacing, the characters, the music!❤️
that.. was.. AWESOME
Like lightning the otter charged past him, whirling the sword, his voice roaring like thunder upon the wind.
"Vallug Bowbeast, 'tis death to you! I am Taggerung! Juskaaaaaaaaa!"

So you've decided to make a good animatic. I want more
Taggerung was my favorite Redwall story- also the first I read. I'm amazed they never made it into a film. With CGI now I would love to see this one as realistic as it can get. Why haven't they done this amazing story yet???

+Nushi A. Just a personal project, for fun and practice. One that I've wanted to do for a long time, and finally turned the desire into action.

Welp. Just spoiled myself on Taggerung. Thx for nothing. 😅
I joke, but seriously... the PBS series doesn’t even hold a candle to this tier of cinematography. I think I’ve watched this 10 times now in 1 hour, now.
Heheh, sorry. I tried to get the SPOILERS warning early enough to show in the description in a playlist/search. Glad you enjoyed it, at least. c:
