I love the fact that austin and bret had these incredibly violent matches and hated each other so much. but outside all that they were so loyal and had such respect for each other.
I really really wish the triple threat match had that 19 minutes. That match could have been amazing with time. It felt so rushed, kinda ruined Mysterio's well deserved moment.
I know right. Plus it should have been the Main Event. Although it is a testament to them to say that it still felt emotional and all three men undoubtedly made one of the best triple threat matches, and defiantly the best short triple threat match. I still can hear Cole saying "Come on Rey! Come on Rey!" in my head.
Benoit vs Punk in that year wouldnt have been all that. They didnt even have a real fued it was just a tournament or something plus Punk wasn't as good as he was in 2011-2013. His gimmick developed way better by then and had better matches such as the one with Cena in MITB and vs Brock at summerslam.
In 07? Nah nobody was raving about punk being an awesome in ring performer why everyone all of the sudden believe he was amazing back then lol he wasn't. He wasnt as good until after the pipebom so yeah maybe 2012 punk vs benoit would be neat but still nothing amazing or crazy about it.
he was good back then too...by the time he already had a 5 Star match with Samoa Joe under his belt, 4 Stars with Brent Albrigt.. 4 1/2 Stars with Austin Aries by the time he really already had had some really good matches... and Chris Benoit... well... we do know how good he was in the Ring...
Shane jumping off a Cell wasn't hardcore enough? Even seth vs ambrose at hell in a cell had a dope moment with both of them falling into the announce table while on the cell. Jericho even fell into some thumbtacks at extreme rules which hadn't been seen in years. There is hardcore moments stop being ignorant just cause they dont happen too often.
Well of course theres not gonna be any of that wtf its PG and he didn't mention anything about blood he just mentioned getting speared through a flaming table which happened only at WM 22 and then daniel bryan and kane did i at extreme rules one time. That wasn't that good but still it happened and like i said with shane jumping off the cell, that only happened once as well with mankind i mean he got thrown off but still those are RARE spots that still happen. Same with the thumbtacks.
Wrestlemania 22 was the first Wrestlemania I ever watched. I believe it was a great show and it's stuck with me after all these years. Thank you WhatCulture for this episode! brought back a lot of memories
I'm certain that old pervert was actually madder that the sponsors would hate that spot and so they'd have to edit it out of every production and re-airing than anything else.
HBK honestly had the best WM matches in the 2000's out of everyone. 2003 - HBK v Chris Jericho 2004 - HBK v Chris Benoit v Triple H 2005 - HBK v Kurt Angle 2006 - HBK v Vince McMahon 2007 - HBK v John Cena 2008 - HBK v Ric Flair 2009 - HBK v Undertaker like those matches are insane.
before eddie died he was getting ready for a huge push to become the only latino wrestler to become world heaveywieght champion by winning the royal rumble in january 2006 and winning te world title at wrestlemania 22
No the plans were to put the belt on him before SS and have him feud with Orton, so Batista could have a personal reason to fight Orton at Mania for the title.
Triple H is the only man to lose in the main event of 3 consecutive WrestleMania: 2004 - Submitted to Chris Benoit (Don't act like you don't know who he is) 2005 - Pinned by Batista 2006 - Submitted to John Cena
poh92 well, aside from him beating Kane after the Katie Vick story, him beating booker t at mania 19 after the racism angle, and him curb stomping orton after he won his first world title, triple h winning wasn't that bad
Ah, Wrestlemania 22. This event will always have a special place in my heart. I remember being 7 years old and being so happy when my mother bought this for me :)
This is probably my favorite Wrestlemania of all time. At the ripe age of 7 years old, Edge (a man I hated for taking the WWE Championship from my hero John Cena) cemented himself as a legend in my eyes through his match with Foley. The fire-table spot was one of the coolest things I had ever seen done up to that point of me watching wrestling. I actually met Edge a few months later at a restaurant in Tampa and he let me sit with him and talk to him for a good 10-15 minutes. He said that spot was definitely the most painful part of the match and showed me parts of his arm that were still slightly damaged from it. Swell guy, that Adam Copeland.
Great memories for sure! For me WrestleMania 24 carries that weight, I was eleven. Both worlds title matches were amazing, Belfast Brawl, Punk wins MITB. And of course the HBK vs Flair match. Years later I'd go on to meet Michael's at an autograph signing. Crazy how we hold onto moments!
It was like a tournament thing for the belt that night and cena had been fueding with Punk so id rather take that instead of rey vs punk again especially since punk was a babyface at that time and he had just blown up
Crater He was never given a decent title run. I remember when he won it at Money in the Bank and Kane cashed in on him and beat him for it the same night.
You're damn skippy he did! I still can't believe he was booked to take all those non-title losses after this show. Way to keep a champ credible and strong, huh?
I hate the fact that Mysterio got the belt mostly because of Eddie's death. And then while he was champion the WWE proceeded to bury any credibility he had by having him basically squashed in consecutive weeks to giants like Big Show, Khali, Kane and Undertaker.
The Boogeyman by itself was an awful gimmick. The character played by Martin Wright though was pretty impressive considering it was the DAMN BOOGEYMAN!!! The fact that he made me forget about how atrocious the idea was speaks to how good he executed the character.
He must of done something well since he terrorized my childhood. This was back when i thought wrestling was all real he was terrifying. I went to a show in Manchester in November of 2006 and he was there and to this day (11 years later Im now 14) I cant watch that match because he terrifies me even now.
I always wanted to see The Boogeyman go up against The Undertaker, and possibly have a long feud. Taker was a Boogeyman in his own right, and Boogeyman himself was the scariest gimmick since Undertaker. Even if the matches were mediocre, the possible promos they could've had would've definitely made for some awesome TV. But I guess creative though it was better for Taker to put over The Great Khali. Sigh.
This Mania was done pretty well. You had matches that went beyond expectations, and some that under sold. The Michaels and Vince match for me definitely over delivered. I was not expecting a whole lot from this match initially but came out very satisfied and surprised by how good it ended up being. Don't underestimate any match with Shawn in it. You had a CM Punk cameo when Punk had just signed with WWE from ROH. Edge and Foley was tremendous with that insane table on fire spot. My favorite was the Money on the bank match. My guy RVD returned to Mania and deliver red a great performance in what was the beginning of a great year for him.
I was a big fan off WWF/E in the late 90s and through watching these videos realised there is a lot I missed once I went off to university. Wrestlemania 17 (yes SEVENTEEN Adam, fight me!) was the last one I watched while actively watching shows (ie. RAW and Smackdown) around it. These days, I'm a PPV-only watcher with my RAW and Smackdown info coming from Ups and Downs (screw 'King' Ross). But these "10 Fascinating WWE Facts About WrestleMania…" videos are making me want to go back and fill in all the blanks. I think I missed from 18 to 28… so I've got quite a bit of catching up to do!
The thing is, I remember seeing the house show (when I was still a fan of wrestling) of Booker T and the Boogeyman in Oklahoma City and saw the moment the Boogeyman tore his bicep. He continued the match like a champ, but I can't imagine the extra damage he had done.
I always enjoy these videos if only to find out what funny Undertaker nickname Plumpy comes up with in each one. Marky Mark and the Funeral Bunch, indeed. 😆
Guerrero vs. Michaels would have been INSANE! Credit to Bruce Prichard, check out his Something to Wrestle with podcast for some great behind-the-scenes stories from back in the day.
Extra fact: WrestleMania 22 is the only WrestleMania since XV to use the "old" WrestleMania logo typeface (the one with the 'S' that curls along the bottom that was used for the first WrestleMania). 2000 and 23 both had a unique typeface for the logo and X-Seven through 21 and then XXIV through 34 (and likely beyond) all use the "new" typeface (the one where the 'W' and 'M' are connected by the lines that run along the top; the old logo still has the lines but they don't join at the top like the new logo).
Batista and Orto being the original main event, Vince not wanting to put the title on someone he thought was too small, are we sure we weren't accidentally covering Wrestlemania XXX?
eddies passing in even more sad now, first the next smack down before his passing he was scheduled to win the world heavy weight championship, now he was going to have a match with Shawn Michaels not just any Shawn Michael but wreslemainaia match of the year Shawn Michaels
It's interesting how despite all the acclaim and fondness the Attitude era gets, when it comes to Wrestlemanias, it's the post-attitude era where it was arguably at its best. Starting from WrestleMania 17 (which is considered the end of the attitude era) and all the way to Wrestlmania 24 there wasn't a single bad one. Every single one of them had at least one match that was an instant classic and at least a couple other really good ones. Since then it's been kind of hit and miss (I think Shawn Michaels retiring post-26 was something of a blow, not surprised the first one following his retirement was so underwhelming), but man the ruthless aggression era just killed it as far as WrestleManias go.
At the time, I remember being really mad that they had Mysterio tap out to the Ankle lock in the World Title match just prior to winning the title. He was booked as an underdog babyface, but having him tap behind the ref's back just made it so hard to sympathize with him. Still think that was a really dumb spot.
Well... Ofc i was watching some regular matches before but it was my first PPV :) I guess maybe it wasn't great but I enjoyed it. And this is entertainment I think Americans forget how lucky You are to have such a great tradition. Stay awesome! :)
There is a general consensus that Mysterio's reign never should have happened because everyone knew he didn't deserve it, he only got the title because he was close to Eddie and people felt bad for him.
Can you elaborate on the reason why Joey Styles was not on the commentary booth at Wrestlemania 22? He only called the Hardcore match between Edge and Mick Foley. After that, they reverted back to Jim Ross (which I am perfectly fine with since it was Wrestlemania)
Interesting how you blame "Vinnie's revenge" on the Rey Mysterio match got cut short when it seems like HBK has had TWO matches at Mania that ran longer than originally planned and caused other matches to be impacted or cancelled.
I personally would of put the WHC on Chavo Guerrero to be perfectly honest... I get it that Rey was one of Eddie's closet friends but Chavo was family and just think Chavo should of had that spot instead.
ShadowRealmFox Chavo didn't have the same history as Rey and Eddie though. Those two came up together pretty exactly at the same time and had continued storylines and excellent matches. Chavo...still probably should've gotten a push or something; but Rey was the clear choice.
I still think it was nice to give Mysterio the belt as tribute the eddie - it was also nice to let him win the rumble - but by god, dont let him win from Nr. 2 - that was so stupid
1. Tony Chimel announcing "Rated R Suuuuuuuuuuperstar" was amazing, shut up 2. Batista vs Orton would've been okay with the fans considering at this time Batista was arguably the top babyface of the company and Orton was well on his way to becoming the biggest heel.
Don’t forget Animal was suppose to win the invitational battle royal since it was in his hometown, but botched the apron spot so snitsky took control acted quick and had Vicera throw him over the top rope
Another fun fact, it was two days after the very first ROH Supercard Of Honor in Chicago, and one night after Colt Cabana and Homicide ended their feud at Better Than Our Best. Best. Wrestlemania. Weekend. Ever.
A fun fact that wasn't mentioned is that this was the final Wrestlemania to take place in a traditional arena. After Wrestlemania 22 they started going to larger, football stadiums.
I was 10 years old when this Wrestlemania happened. After Edge speared Mick Foley through the flaming table, my parents didn’t let me watch wrestling for a good year or so
Well Adam, technically you're wrong about the Batista/Orton Feud. It wasn't Batista who won the WWE Title at WrestleMania 30, it's Daniel Bryan's moment of Glory that led to his victory.
Even as a kid, I always felt like the world title match ended pretty abruptly. I guess even not knowing it was a work, I knew that a match containing wrestlers of that star power with the belt on the line should have been at least 15 minutes.
guys, is it just me or wrestlemania 23 is one of the best wrestlemanias of all time, for me personally, i loved kurt angle just before he left, the triple threat with orton, mysterio, angle was so well executed, i enjoyed every minute of it. Then you have the match that stole the show, edge vs mick foley, the spear through the burning table speaks for itself, foley and edge ESPECIALLY FOLEY are fkn legends for sure!
This was also the first WrestleMania since WM13 that the Royal Rumble winner's match did not main event the show. And the start of a trend in which from XXII to XXVIII, the Rumble winner's match was the main event once (Orton vs HHH WM XXV).
I've been playing GM Mode on Smackdown V Raw 2006 2007 and 2008 and it was always Guerrero and Michaels who drew 4 to 5 star ratings on my shows. Always those two.
I love the fact that austin and bret had these incredibly violent matches and hated each other so much. but outside all that they were so loyal and had such respect for each other.
Ryan Flood Austin and Bret are good friends...they did not hate each other
in kAYFABE MARK..

Agreed

Best triple H entrance. the one when he came out like somebody from Skyrim or game of thrones
gametime x3
It was supposed to be Conan the Conqueror but yes. Best entrance.
That was when he debuted the King of Kings gimmick :D
Edge vs Mick Foley was epic
The spear on the flame table was vicious
Too bad they don't do nowadays hardcore things anymore

Well... Ofc i was watching some regular matches before but it was my first PPV :) I guess maybe it wasn't great but I enjoyed it. And this is entertainment I think Americans forget how lucky You are to have such a great tradition. Stay awesome! :)
Are there any videos on here of that tag team match? Can’t find one
My first time watching a full Wrestlemania at the age of 7 and in my home city of Chicago. it was great
Is that music at the end for the State of Emergency promo in house created or can I find that somewhere?
Chavo...still probably should've gotten a push or something; but Rey was the clear choice.
brandon wenzel I know that but Chavo was still family and a Guerrero, it was only right but it's just my opinion tho
I still think it was nice to give Mysterio the belt as tribute the eddie - it was also nice to let him win the rumble - but by god, dont let him win from Nr. 2 - that was so stupid
1. Tony Chimel announcing "Rated R Suuuuuuuuuuperstar" was amazing, shut up
2. Batista vs Orton would've been okay with the fans considering at this time Batista was arguably the top babyface of the company and Orton was well on his way to becoming the biggest heel.
I can't stop clicking 2:46
Bring Back Mania back to Chicago
JOE KICKASS yeah! because we want to hear the crowd chant “CM PUNK” for six FUCKING HOURS
jimmy gallo-arsenal That would honestly be.more entertaining than half the matches we're getting in this Wrestlemania.
Facts bro
Since I was born, this was only WrestleMania I didn't see live
I was here and this show was awesome
You didn't listen very closely did you? It was mentioned right at the beginning at 0:30
I was 10 years old when this Wrestlemania happened. After Edge speared Mick Foley through the flaming table, my parents didn’t let me watch wrestling for a good year or so
Wheres the next ones??? Been refreshing my screen for 49 hours!!!!!
Hard to believe this was 11 years ago. Damn. How things have changed.
Eddie Guerrero v. Shawn Michaels
Latino Heat v. HBK
I Lie, I Cheat, I Steal v. The Showstopper
It would have been iconic
Bruh. Guerrero vs. HBK? That'd be the best match ever.
This is actually my personal favorite WrestleMania
guys, is it just me or wrestlemania 23 is one of the best wrestlemanias of all time, for me personally, i loved kurt angle just before he left, the triple threat with orton, mysterio, angle was so well executed, i enjoyed every minute of it.
Don't know why, but this is my favourite Wrestlemania
