Well, there are also a few pieces of advice that should be said because the video author is omitting them even for Dwarf Hairgrass. It might sound obvious, but people need to remember that:
    - especially at the beginning, don't let into any fishes that might move the soil, no matter what soil you use.
Like Plecos, Bamboo Shrimps or Corydoras. From personal experience, there is a huge chance that they will uproot any Hairgrass. Accidentally or not.
    - don't use strong filters which move water a lot.
There are fishes that like calm water and these which prefer moving water. But Dwarf Hairgrass prefers calm water, especially with a "light" substrate.
    - prepare yourself for a lot of floating plants. It just will happen.
    - don't go too fast on trimming it. Give them a week or two to put some roots out there. Otherwise, you will most probably uproot them yourself.
That's all errors I made myself.

Do you even need trimming? Is it because the old leaves turn brown?

I used one Eleocharis 'mini' culture from 1-2-Grow to fill out one of my nano tanks,
It cost 11.95 plus tax and It separated into about 15-16 plugs.
I have one media bag of flourite capped with 1 inch of eco complete and capped with 2.5 inches of blasting silica.
After 8 weeks the individual 'plugs' have all grown to the size of the original tissue culture.
medium light, no fertilizer with 6 pygmy corys.

A year later... I would like to add to your Patience Pays Off philosophy. I started a 10g a couple years ago with literally one tissue culture cup of Crypt parva and one of Dwarf Hair Grass. It took two years and a lot of moving the hair grass runners to fill in areas, but I have a full carpet. So you can do it even if you're super broke if you have the big P...Patience. Also, Monte Carlo is possible as a carpet in low or even natural light. I have a cube tank that only gets natural light with a full, very full carpet. But it will grow to 12" tall if you don't trim every couple weeks to keep it a foreground/ carpet. I keep the back of the tank tall and just trim at an angle down to about 1.5" tall in front.

Legit is seriously the only food I have EVER seen my 10 year old pleco actively go after right while I'm feeding (he used to sneak his meals after I walked away) and it is now the only thing my rainbows will eat (except for brine shrimp and blood worm treats). Like my rainbows literally do this excited double take thing (I imagine an exclamation point in a thought bubble above their heads while they do this, to help paint a picture) every time I sprinkle some of that sweet sweet legit community in their tank. You've really created something that aquarists respect for its quality and fish go ham for. Mad props and much love from Dallas

This might sound dumb - but how do you attach carpeted grass or moss into aquarium?
As I learned it's harder than it looks, not sure if because I was doing a bit patchy but they float and die (causing another issue) I like to learn more before overcoming my trauma 😅
PS I had sand as substrate and got few plants which also died - also can I still use EM3 yellow once in the tank or would that backfire?

I tried my 1st planted tank with Fluval Stratum about 2 years ago. The substrate basically is now a muddy mush. Totally dissolved. If disturbed, it clouds the tank with dark debris. I guess my question is, is that what normally happens with those kinds of substrates? They wear out? I didn't cover it with any other substrate. Thanks.

@aquapros I am using the Seedling in moisture method. I had an aquatic pond soil ( black soil ) bed created inside my aquarium. I intend to also have an inch thick white sand substrate on top of it. But before adding the white sand, I have planted the seeds I received from Amazon for the dwarf hair grass. Now how do I add the white sand ? Do you recommend the seeds to sprout and grow to their full length and then add the white sand, or do you recommend adding a layer of white sand now itself before sprouting begins.
    Kindly advise.

Baby tears! Yeah, I tried that and they all died off. Dwarf Hairgrass FTW, at least with me and my low-tech 10g.

Is it possible to take the hair grass from an established tank and re-plant into a new tank?

    • @AQUAPROS
      @AQUAPROS  Год назад +1

Ya totally, will it grow really well in the new tank tho? that depends :)

I’ve tried a couple of times. Found the bigger the chunk of hair grass you have the better for replanting and taking hold and never lasts in tiny chunks sadly to guna keep bigger and buy an extra tub or tub
