Thanks for the review! It looks to me like that loading port is designed for 45-70.... I'm betting that will be the next chambering. Good for Rossi! I've got three of their R92's and love them.
Great point. Some of them even tell you in the manual: "it's not a lubricant, it's a factory preservative". It needs to be cleaned off. Personally I hate that stuff. For some reason they even put it on stainless and nitride-finished steels and aluminum :)
Yeah, they don't oil them at the factory, they spray them with an anti-rust agent that really doesn't do anything for lubrication. The R95 is a very different rifle when you take it apart and clean all of the garbage out of it from making it. Then lubricate it with some Lucas gun oil. I have already swapped marlin stock sets on a Rossi this week. My customers hate that texture. It's a laser cut stippling that's just strange feeling and detracts from the looks. I'm waiting on rpp stuff to put on one rifle and putting a nice set of xs sights on another. I ordered mine yesterday, it should be here Saturday or Monday. I'm going to form 1 it and cut it to the magazine tube and thread it. It's going to be a fast hog hunting rifle with a red dot. I'll use it for deer too. I have a Glenfield I setup for subsonic rounds and I cut that one to 11in and threaded it. It has a very lightweight carbon fiber rail I made from a lancer handguard. It wears an osprey and an ir laser. I use it for night hog hunting and it's laser only, no sights.
I noticed that someone else asked this already. I'm also curious about why you remove the rifle from your shoulder to actuate the lever. Does it need some polishing to smooth it, or, that's just how you like to do it? Well done interview. Take it easy!!
Lever action rifles are just not made to be shot from prone or prone-like position you can't operate the lever because it would get stuck on the surface
Nice rifle, but tragic performance. I don't know the exact distance at which it was shot (up to 100 yards?), but according to the results, this rifle is useless. I wouldn't dare responsibly shoot game with this one.
Local Sportsman Warehouse, (Loveland Colorado) just emailed an ad this morning, ( 27 July '23) showing this rifle on sale. $829.99. YT wouldn't let me post the ad. Good luck!! Roger
Lol that ain’t “walnut”. I don’t know what it is, but the furniture looks pretty cheesy. The important parts of the rifle are good enough I just bought one.
According to the taurus guys at the shot show, rossi is going to be their premium brand and I know of at least one other pistol that they are going to build that they have never done before that will really surprise everyone this year.
Since my JM Marlin’s are now worth > $1,000 based on local prices in gun shops (what a joke), i have decided to retire them and avoid scratches and dings. So I bought the Rossi R95 Carbine as a Jeep gun and i put a Williams peep sight and a red fiber optic front post on it. Budget rifle meet budget ammo - it prefers Win 170gr Power Points over Fed and Rem 150gr rounds. At 100yds - with a hot barrel and my 55 yr old eyes - it shot 2” groups with the Win 170grs. It shot slightly worse with the 150gr loads and they printed about 2” higher (no surprise there). It shoots as well as my Marlin 336s with 20” barrels and the same Williams Peep Sights, so for the money it’s a good deal. I can’t imagine a new $1,300 Ruglin / Marger 336 would shoot any better - esp with iron sights.
That was my thought too. I have a Rossi in a 44mag and the action is not very smooth. I was hoping for a mention in this video whether the action was improved.
Nice to see Rossi come out with a Marlin 336 pattern. I have a couple of 92's from some years back in revolver calibers and like them. Would be nice to see a Win94 pattern in 30-30 as well. I've wanted a Rossi in 45-70 for years but eventually came across a Henry. They now have side-gate models of 95/336-pattern lever in 45-70 and 30-30 (and probably others). I bought my Henry H010G side-gate 45-70 (basically a Marlin 1895 pattern, at least externally) for $850 from a retailer last year. It wasn't any kind of sale or clearance, either. I was surprised and glad I didn't think twice. Beautiful American walnut furniture with real checkering (not pressed-in). Also Henry doesn't have the cross-bolt safety, but it is drop-safe and can be safely carried with a hammer down on a live round (but no half-cock, it's just either cocked or safe). That's handier in a hunting rifle, IMHO. And has a nice recoil pad, which the 45-70 definitely benefits from. Taurus/Braztech's customer service is really unacceptable from my experience. I'd say, if the price is right, Rossi lever actions can be a great gun, I'd just consider it like a used purchase, where you'll have to handle any potential service by yourself (or pay a smith), then you'll avoid any regrets or disappointments. I'm glad to see a budget option for a 336-pattern. Would be nice if they made a Win94 pattern in 30-30 too. And a 45-70, of course!
When was the last time you contacted Taurus customer service? There have been a lot of changes to that company after Bret Vorhees took over as CEO. He was from Walther and it really shows. Are they perfect? No…but neither is Sig or Kimber or some of the other bigger names. Heck of a lot better products and customer service than in years past.
@@scotteger6271 admittedly, a few years ago. But I've watched the "revolver recall" saga closely and plenty of people were very unhappy. FWIW I have a Rossi revolver and a couple of Taurus revolvers - Model 44 and Model 66 and no issues with any of them. I like them for the money I paid (all were bought used except Model 44, which only cost me $500 total, new in box). I don't like any of the stock grips and it's not easy to find nice replacements. The value is still there, IMO. I met an old-timer at deer camp, maybe in his 70's. He had an old Marlin rifle, but for a sidearm had a 38 Special Taurus and was happy with it. I trust his judgment.
Looks pretty nice. If I don’t score this older Mossberg 464 in 30-30 I might have to buy one of these. The new Ruger made Marlins are nice but the bump above MSRP that they’re currently selling for is off putting. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Henry’s. They look nice but for every good review I hear/read, I find one where the wood to metal fit was poor or the rifle wouldn’t group…so makes it tougher to want one of those. I was eyeing an All Weather for a while but couldn’t buy it because of the uncertainty.
I bought a 357 Henry years ago after window shopping for years. It was a POS, I would never trust their company again. It never grouped or was consistent in any way. Same experience through many different shooting buddies.
Sorry Bearclaw had a bad experience. Between my brother and me, we own 4 Henrys that are spectacular performing and real lookers to boot. Anybody that buys them after us will continue to have a lifetime warranty- have no fear.

It isn’t Ruger/Marlin trying to sell a 30-30 or 45-70 for $1300…they have what MSRP is supposed to be right on their website. Gun shops are charging the higher price because people are buying them. I refuse to pay that for a Marlin anything…but there are people that just have to have them and can’t wait so they’ll pay that price. Same thing was happening with vehicles during COVID…people were paying $15k over sticker price for a Bronco…no thanks.
@@scotteger6271 great point on overpriced cars! I had a lease that was maturing, so I managed to sell and pocket like seven grand! And the prices crashed just a few months later. 800 bucks for a 30-30 in 2023??!! Only thing I think we need is for rossi to make one of these in 454 casull. Either that or put a cross bolt safety in the r92.
I want one of these in 454 Casull. I was about to buy a R92 model in such caliber, but after looking this new R95 model, I decided to wait. Looks like Rossi have it in 45-70, but my choice goes to 454 Casull for sure (.451-.452 projectiles). There are very few lever action options in that caliber.
The new marlins are so high because ruger is making them now very high end rifles now. Doubtful you’re going to see that for a while. That cartridge hasn’t really caught on yet. I haven’t even seen a box of ammo on the shelves or a Henry chambered in it yet. When 350 Legend hit the scene there was ammo and guns for it…what’s Remington doing? The area where I live doesn’t require straightwalls, but we’re pretty close to a couple areas that do so we get a lot of the ammo and rifles for those places…and like I said, haven’t seen any 360 BM.
Your shooting, from a bench no less, is pathetic, get someone to do that for you, or get taught. Any lever gun, regardless of age or brand should shoot 2" to 3" groups at 100yds all day long. The wind present when you were shooting was worth about 1 minute, constant, and would not make for larger groups, but the groups would be either right or left. Please redo this video, it has merit but very sloppy in its present form, and could you talk faster please.
Winchester ammo, at least in my experience, is pretty much garbage…so that might not have been the rifle’s fault. I would’ve liked to have seen Hornady American Whitetail or the Barnes Pioneer ammo shot from this with the LeverEvolution ammo.
Dude has no business shooting or reviewing a lever rifle. Probably never even seen a Western film in his life. Works the rifle like my wife would. Like she has no clue how to operate a lever gun.
Old shotgun trap shooting habits, sorry we didn't we didn't go all western-tactical for you in this video. The action is smooth as your average lever action rifle, and can easily be cycled from the shoulder if desired.
Personal preference. One of the best balanced cartridges and rifle actions available. Handy and capable of just about any reasonable task short of an angry polar bear without oppressive blast, recoil, barrel wear, powder consumption. Not every car needs to be a drag racer.
Everyone is going to have an opinion but it really boils down to where you hunt and how you hunt. I live in Pennsylvania and the particular part of the state where I reside has someone pretty dense woods. Shot opportunities are less than 100 yards in most places, heck less than 75 yards to be honest. Having a short, handy rifle with minimal recoil makes working your way through the briars/thickets easier. Very common here to see 30-30 or 45-70 levers.
One if you need a bench rest for 3030 you’re not a hunter second if you have a scope you’re even worse come on people start acting like hunters open sites so you don’t have to look like a loser
I think Rossi is part of Taurus. No major complaints about Rossi or Taurus from my experience, but didn't like the little customer service interaction that I had. Basically non-existent. Plus the revolver recall saga. I'd say, if you like and the price warrants it, just consider them a used gun with no service. No disappointments then. For the right price they can be a really nice gun.
@@scotteger6271 I have 2 Henry lever actions - a 22lr from Walmart for $290! - and a 45-70 Side Gate. They are both very well made, beautiful American walnut furniture, good bluing, even if not pre-64 Winchester-good. Excellent fit and finish. Already comes with sling studs. Zero complaints, actually. Sights are coarse, especially on the 22, but that's also "traditional". There are upgrades available. And I ended up putting a scope on the 45-70 anyway. I stumbled on the 45-70 last year for $850, even though I've seen them for well over a grand and was giving up on the idea of grabbing a sub-grand 45-70. And yes, Henry 45-70 will handle the hot "+P" loads for "modern lever actions", like you can get from Underwood (just not the Ruger No. 1 levels). I think the 30-30 versions are a bit cheaper and more available. If you get a chance to handle one, give it a try, you might like them. There's no half-cock, but also no external cross-bolt safety. It's just drop-safe and can be safely carried with a hammer lowered on a chambered round. I think it has something similar to Ruger's revolver transfer bar or S&W revolver hammer safety. I think it's ideal for a hunting rifle. And yet you can still unload via the loading mag tube. Best of both worlds. Plus, Henry offers all-weather finishes, but that probably costs more.
Woah, Rossi is making .30-30's again? Nice.
New one on me.

They need to extend the mag tube to the end of the barrel. That short tube looks funny, at least to me.
Actually is a more accurate system using a forend cap on a short mag tube than the barrel bands on the longer mag tube rifles.
I’m sure it helps with production costs as well, to use all of the same parts except the barrel and loop to make two different rifles.

@@thekentuckygunco I was just pulling your leg . Ive seen enough of your videos to know that you know how to shoot
@@perofishYou were "only pulling his leg" after he clapped back 😂
Bit of a bonehad but an acceptable review
There are so many better rifles than the 3030. Why buy one.
Because that’s what grand dad use to use lol. Idk there are better options but it’s just a classic deer rifle under 200 yrds.
One if you need a bench rest for 3030 you’re not a hunter second if you have a scope you’re even worse come on people start acting like hunters open sites so you don’t have to look like a loser
isnt taurus part of rossi . just buy a marlin much better gun
The new Ruger made Marlins are going for about $500 over MSRP, so if you want one buy one…I’ll be waiting or looking elsewhere for a lever action.
Kein Interesse an Waffen 🤮🤮🤮🤮👎👎👎👎😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Then why are you watching a channel called KYGUNCO and a review of a gun?
