How BIG Is Gaming Industry in India?

The Indian Gaming Industry is another one of those things that our parents turned out to be wrong about - it is an extremely lucrative industry where individuals are making millions of dollars every year.
The gaming industry in India is worth about 3.5 billion dollars as of 2024, and over 50% of India’s internet users are gamers. India has 568 Million gamers - that is way more than the entire population of the US.
Now, you would think that with such a large cohort of gamers, India would definitely lead the global gaming industry in terms of revenue, right?
But as of 2023, when it comes to revenue, China has the leading market share at 25%, followed by the USA at 24% and Japan at 11% - India is actually way behind - it has a market share of just 1.1%.
So how is gaming a 3.5 billion dollar industry in India? Why does India have a market share of just 1% even though it has the largest number of mobile gamers in the world? And how are these young gamers like 8bitthug and Techno Gamerz making so much money?
