I’ve had an HRX217 for 7 years now… it has pulled every time on the first pull for YEARS. And still does. This year for the first time I actually decided to maintain it and changed the oil, filters, plug and blades out and it was surging bad at idle so I put a new carb on it and boom runs like a new mower.
I'm in oz, and just bought the hrx217hyu. I've been cutting lawns since I was 10 now near 60. I cut commercially for 12 years using a jd x758 and bought a toro for the small bit's. Didn't impress me. Sold it. Bought a steel deck Honda. Cut awesome just heavy at 52kg. Sold the business. I just bought a place that I need to bag for a while to catch the clippings so as not to walk them inside. It's probably 1 acre in size. I had a guy come twice to begin with to get the grass down as it was neglected being a rental formally. The mower started first pull, it took me a while to get used to all the controls as the drive speed controller is down next to the engine speed control. Height control on 3 the couch was up around 3 to 6 high. It cuts sooo well. It bagged 99% in first pass. I didn't expect 100% as it was thick and long. Once I got used to varying the speed for the conditions it was easy. A very powerful engine. The clippings are cut fine having been cut twice. I use clippings for compost. Second pass it's like a vacuum that cuts grass. Love everything about it. Fuel cap size, twin blades, fuel tap, positive height controls (stays where you set it), bag is large and catches everything if you clear the mesh of debris after emptying, the bag stays in position solid until you empty again, speed controller is a cruise control effectively, starts easily, 10kg lighter than the metal deck, blade control so you don't have to turn it off to empty the bag, handles fold flat for storage with a quarter turn and stay in the desired position, of which it has 3 choices when in use. Thanks Honda for doing it right. I look forward to mowing then sitting down to look at it, pat myself on the back for making the right choice. $1,500 bucks here in Oz.
I bought a Honda HRX217HYA a few weeks ago, and it was a great decision. Started on first pull, and the power is fantastic. It goes up the steep incline in my back yard with no problems.
@@PrincessCutLawnCareI heard that the exposed belt inside the deck may get damaged if it gets wet when mowing wet/moist grass. Do u know if this is true?
I bought this model in 2016. Started helping buddies with their lawn businesses as a side hustle. I used it for four summers. It started smoking and burning oil end of 2020 lawn season. I just went to Lowes and bought the newest version. I would get a Honda commercial if I were cutting grass full time.
Great video. Just purchased one. Cuts amazing. Gcv 200 out of the box was spitting fuel from the exhaust. 2 dealer visits later... Carb replacement covered under warranty. Picking it up tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's my last dealer visit. Anyone else have this issue?
I just bought one this week. Mine doesn’t have the electric start. We’ve had so much rain I only got to use it in a small area. Impressed how well it mulched.
I had a John Deere JE75 (Blade Clutch, 5 speed, Electric Start, and Oil Filter). I retired it a few months ago as I noticed the crank was bent when installing a new blade clutch. Decided to retire it as a new crank for the FV150v is around $150 new and the blade clutch was just about $184. I bought the HRX217K6HZA as it was comparable to my john deere. It has the blade brake clutch, electric start, and the hydrostatic transmission. This mower is the most comparable to my last mower (JE75) and is very enjoyable to mow with. I highly recommend it. I recommend buying the top of the line version with the 5 speed hydrostatic drive over this mower drive (gearbox) with variable belt speed. It'll last much longer and the fluid can be changed in it. I love it so far and have not had a complaint about it, EXCEPT, the lack of a decent lawn striping kit. The checkmate kit requires drilling (which Im sure voids the lifetime warranty on the deck). I had the toro one, but they wear out after about 2 years. I also wish there was the ability to put a rear chute deflector where the bag goes like my JE75 had the capability to do.
Ohh man Dubs you got all the bells and whistles, that blade stop feature comes in clutch (no Pun Intended). I totally agree about the striping kit, i have the checkmate and was pretty damn hesitant about drilling in the deck but alas the things we do for light reflections in our grass.. :/
I have old offset wheel lawnboys that are commercial, 2 stroke toro commercial, honda commercial and a newer toro commercial 21 and I told my dad I would sell his hrx217 for him. I went and picked it up and it has all the best features I have seen for a homeowner. It is lightweight and cuts great. The 2 strokes are great, especially on hills and so is that kawasaki FJ180 engine, but it and the honda commercial are really heavy. I am not sure if the GCV honda is pressurized but that can be a concern on grades.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare well, the biggest issue was the rear wheels locking up when you pull the mower back. Only way to fix it is to take apart and sand/grease the rear self propel axle, and then put it back together only for it to start acting up again 2 weeks later. This is supposedly fixed on the HRN but I didnt want to take chances. Then, the front wheels are toed out because the height adjstment levers are warped. Cheap design. Next, the handle bolts rattle off periodically. Minor but annoying. Also, the blade clutch is already worn out, the mower is only about 5 years old. Ive seen 10 and 20 year old mowers with working blade clutches. All of these issues should not happen this quick on a $400+ lawnmower. However, the engine is great. No issues there. Wont be buying another Honda mower after the experience I had with my HRR. Im getting a Toro super recycler with a Honda engine, whenever it comes back in stock that is.
Never used the hrr... what was the issue with it?
So I bought a new Toro Super Recycler with the Honda engine. I havent cut with it yet but I like it better than the HRX and HRN already.
Gas will always fall out with the government gas can nozzle no matter how big the gas cap is.
Lol I’ve perfect the art of the pour!
Don’t mow in sandals please.
Mowing that lawn in open-toed sandals??? Don't slip and hope that blade stops quick because it will mulch your toes faster than you can say.... sh!t
