That is what happens with Bermuda when its time to cut. The blade of grass is only green on the top 1/3 of the plant, so it gets a little yellow after a cut. Greens back up in a day or so.

Great review. I had an HRM 215 for 18 years. I am just a homeowner but mow every 4-5 days. I replaced the wheels about every other year, the, the transmission once, and the Coil once. Then in 2019 the seals blew and I was debating which mower to get. I ended up with the HRC216. It is a heavy beast. My 11 year old has a hard time (can't) using it. I might pick up a HRX at some point, but will keep the HRC forever.

Your testing is exactly what I’ve experienced myself having both models in my garage. The 200cc probably would be neck and neck, but longevity not so much. My complaint is the weight for sure, heavy as hell and handle can’t be folded.

I own the HRC216. My HRC216 was purchased on July 2, 2001. I use it for home only on 25,000 sq' mow~able area. It has cut in the rain and thru 4" of wet grass with ease. I have had "ZERO," issues what so ever and I mean NADA!. Plug changed 6 times, 4 fuel filters, 8 air cleaners with the blade unit sharpened 3 times each on 2 new blades. I can honestly say that I could have gotten by with less maintenance upkeep, but old habits die hard. If I had to replace my HRC216 I would buy another just like it. IMHO, there is no match for the HRC216 ever made by any company EVER! ~~ "FYI." I offer the simple fact that any major issues that may arise, thanks to RUclips, I will be able to resolve, leaving my HRC216 being the same hard working mower for at least another 20yrs...........

Honda has torque curves for each motor on their small engine page. HRX(GCV190) has far more torque at 8.3lbs vs the HRC(GXV160) at 7.1lbs(both measured at 2500rpm). I'm thinking your HRC was running a few hundred RPM's faster than the HRX. Horsepower is calculated by multiplying torque x rpm divided by 5252. For the record I am not a fan of the HRX217. Mine will be for sale shortly. The HRC looks great to me, but far above my paygrade. I love Honda's GX series motors.

I know this getting off point a bit, but I bought a HRX216 base last year, to replace a junky old MTD. For the money the MTD was pretty good, engine wise but the hardware kept falling off. But be warned the 216 is HEAVY! And it's long (long deck /wheelbase), and it's loud, I think it runs too fast. My point is, the 216 is too much for my smaller yard, and clumsy going around bushes, etc. Think I'm getting a 217.

You gotta adjust that governor on the HRX217 man. I can hear it’s running a little slower than I’d like it too. Of course don’t overrev it. I’d check the carb first to see if it’s clean if not then adjust the governor.

  • @parkerk7018

The biggest thing I hate about the hrc216 is that you can’t adjust the handlebars to accommodate different heights especially to tall people like myself. It’s also so heavy to push around and turn. It also doesn’t have the versa mow like the hrx217. In Canada the hrc216 is $1449 when the hrx217 is $979 or sometimes $879

Bermuda should be cut at 3/4 inch. That is the HOC where you will have a golf course lawn. These Honda's are the only rotary mowers I have found that will cut at 3/4 inch. You will have to cut at least twice a week to keep it there. Obviously doesn't work for you because the last thing you want to do is come home after cutting a dozen lawns and cut your own lawn twice a week. But, @ 3/4 inch you won't have those ugly clumps of grass laying all over your lawn (I see in the next video you have to go back and blow the clippings.) This test is probably a good one for some one who only cuts Bermuda once a week, since it will grow a couple of inches between mowing's. I currently pay someone to mow my grass, but I am wanting to take over since I am now retired and have the time and desire to do a better job. I will need two mowers. A rotary to pick up acorns, and to mow the tall fescue that grows in the shade, and a reel mower to manicure the Bermuda, in full sun, into a golf course lawn. Thanks for taking the time to show these two mowers side by side, because I am going to choose one of them, About a $300 difference between them.

Wow! I think you just sold me away from Honda. I have a couple old craftsman lawn mowers. One is a 5½ HP, and the other is 6½ HP. . I use them both, mulching leaves and small twigs, along with mowing lawns. Neither one has adjustable speed. I use the 6½ HP. to mow a large lawn of St. Augustine. They like the lawn like a heavy carpet. It's about 4½ to 5 in thick. I use the second from the highest setting. This lawn is in Southern California. Mowing every 10 to 12 Days yields a 1in. to 1½ in. removal. The motor never even slows down. Even before I dethatch the lawn, I remove 2½ in. or more. It never bogs.
My mowers are getting really old. I was thinking of replacing at least one of them with a new Honda. I was curious why their engines have such a small displacement. Especially since they propel the mower, as well as spin the blade.

I am still using the 217 to this day mowing every 5 days or so. Just to be clear, my Bermuda is so thick it would even slow down the Snapper RER I use to use and it had a 12.5 HP engine. So the fact these Hondas could even cut this grass so thick is a miracle.

If you don’t have a mulch plug in the HRC then it is rear discharging and it would have more flow. Plus the HRX sounds like it’s not running right.

You walked much slower with the commercial. Not an equal comparison lol. Walk faster with commercial it will clog also. Iv done many of these tests myself.

No, I didn’t walk much slower with the commercial. I walked as fast as it would let me.

My Opinion only. That yard is a lot big to be cutting it with a walk-behind mower and one that's only 21in at that.

Its my yard soI do it for fun. Looks best with a 21 because it so bumpy.

Your cutting the yard way to low....

    • @GwinnettLawns
      @GwinnettLawns  8 месяцев назад

Nope that’s the height you cut Bermuda. Many people around here will cut it even lower.😝

Who tf mows like this? Besides the ridiculous fact that you're trying to mulch that, by what you said, you're cutting more than 50% off while trying to mulch. The grass looked better before, try keeping it at 4"

This is Bermuda you NEVER cut it that high. Bermuda like to be low. Greens back up with 48 hrs again.
