- Today I review the most expensive mic for iOS device: the Apogee MiC 96k. This mic is compatible with iOS and Mac, and there's also a version that work with windows. Overall it's a nice mic, but is it worth the $230 price tag?

Great job sir. I work in voice over and a peer mentioned this mic for gigs while on the go.
podcastage youre so inspring and you helped me make my youtube channel
Such useful product review I've ever watched so far!
The new apogee mic plus has a headphone jack and works with Mac, iOS and pc. Love to see a review on that one.
Hey great review! I loved your style full of fun!! Thanks.
very nice review.well done.
Very helpful again! Great review! You saved me money - I owe you a beer in Vienna, Austria.... :-)
Thanks for the review I needed it!
Happy to help!
Dude, I've watched your reviews on SHURE usb mic and this. I was considering buying another USB mic because I wasn't too happy with Apogee. And I agree with you. Not a big fan of the tone. Your videos helped big time man! Thanks!
GorillaRotation their interfaces are absolutely stellar. But this mic, just didn’t cut it for me.
lol, I dont get why people are saying its over priced, its a Mic with a built in preamp and AD converter, and are you even recording in 96k? I use this mic on the road all the time and it sounds great to me.
Because we live in a consumer culture where anything that isn't designed to be as cheap as possible is seen as a personal insult to the consumer.
Yup
I loved your video. Thank you! What would you recommend then for one person tutorials, for inside and outside recording, maybe something I can use on iPad and Mac. I have been using a ZOOM iQ7 till now but want to upgrade a little bit. Do you know anything about the Sennheiser clipon mic ? Thank you
Hello, I am looking for a microphone to plug into an iPad and use to record voices and instruments in my school setting (ie solo and groups). What would you recommend? Thanks
The other use case is for professional musicians that want an easy mic to record a gig straight into their laptop DAW. It totally eliminates the need to screw around with an Audio Interface. Someone gave me one of these for free, but I have not used it on any projects yet so I do not have a dog in the fight regarding its sound quality, but Apogee has a pretty amazing reputation for high-quality sounding products.
Hi Bandrew.
Just wondering on your 2nd channel, if you could test the sf-920 on a Windows 10PC? I'm thinking of getting the sf-920 and the HD7.1 sound card, as you reviewed on a mac, but will it sound the same on a Windows 10 PC?
Thanks so much
Hi, would you say that the HypeMic is an upgrade of this microphone or it's completely different?
It fits in with apple's products perfectly then. Solid build, compact, portable, and overpriced.
Damn! Fire insult. HA!
dope video
Just Right now, I got my notification, but it's not even for a first! I guess at least it worked
You'll always be first in my book.
CooLoserTech hey man just wstched one of your vids I'm subbed
Can you use this to just record straight into an audio memo or onto a usual iphone video or do you have to use garageband?
Hi!! can you do a vs with the Mxl 990 and the blue yeti, i´ll buy one of those mics, please make a video
sounds great with the acoustic guitar
im sorry what
Microphone Arm Stand are you using? I am searching an arm stand for my Apogee MiC 96k
Can you possibly compare the sE X1 USB to this? :) Thanks for the videos!
Thank you for getting a mech keyboard to test with. Idk about others around here, but most game streamers, myself included, use mechanical keyboards. I base most of my audio equipment purchases on how I will sound during a stream and having a loud mech keyboard helps a lot for the keyboard test. I wouldn't have picked up the Yeti if I had known it would've picked up my keyboard easily and I'm looking into the AT2020
Shay Glenn a dynamic is the best option for u
Agreed. Dynamic Cardioid mic will be what you're looking for. They're less sensitive. You'll need the mic closer to your mouth.
Yeti have cardioid pattern and it really don't pick up a lot of keyboard.
You probably just have extremely loud keyboard and smash it. And also You probably don't use scissor mount.
Also mechanical keyboard and gaming channel eeeee. If sound quality is rly important go with most silent keyboard that's possible(so one that's laptop flat style keyboard)
Podcastage ok, then which mic would you suggest? I use a keyboard with Cherry MX Speed switches
Dynamic are not rly that much less sensitive. For most part they just don't have preamplifier build into.
Dynamics with preamp build in pick up just like condensers with preamps.
Turning gain knob down on condenser/interface will do same thing as buying dynamic without preamplifier.
I love your videos more than any other persons videos because they are so organized, to the point, funny, and informative. Can I sort of copy you on my channel? (Not this one this is my old account from when I was in third grade)
Go for it man. I don't own the rights to the format I use. And if I can motivate someone to make videos that are too the point, then absolutely.
TBH they should work with a better box for it's price... just saying
Hey... could you please review the IRig Studio Pro?? Love your reviews!
That should be on the voting poll.
Hi! can i use this in windows?thanks
thanks for the video!
Question: I actually own one of these, but looking for an upgrade. Is AT2020 or AT2050 worth the change? Thanks again
If you go with the XLR, yes. But only if you use it with an audio interface
@@xHadesStamps yeah I got a Focusirte, but wondering if the difference between the Apogee MiC and AT2020 (XLR) wd be noticeable =P
@@HEYSERGYO When listening on actual headphones, maybe. I still say it's worth it.
Hey Bandrew, can you do a comparison between the BM700, BM800, Neewer NW700, Neewer NW800, Tonor BM-700, Excelvan BM-700, Tonor BM-800, Excelvan BM-800, BM-7000, BM-8000, Neewer NW-7000, Neewer NW-8000, Excelvan BM-8000 and DragonPad USA Pro Condenser Mic? Thanks!
Hi! I have this mic too, anybody here knows is the MXL 990 or V67G is better than this? I have no problems with it but just curious if large diaphragm (always) are better? Thanks!
I saw many ads for this mic
Cool!!
Two different versions for Windows and Mac? It is very strange. Have you tried to connect this microphone to your Windows PC? I think it should work. Also I'm wondering how things are with Linux.
I have not tried to connect it to a windows machine.
Thanks for recommendations, but I don't need to buy a microphone or audio interface that will work in Linux. I'm just wondering why they made two models for different computers. What is the difference between them (if there is any difference).
it's "cherry MX" not "MX Cherry" ;)
Btw, is the music in... music test ? :D based on an actual song ? I just loved the chords !
Maruku it was supposed to be original but listening back To it, the melody sounds a lot like a song by "the postal service"
How about this mic vs shure mv51? I wanna buy one of these two mic. Please give me some suggestions. 3q
If I remember correctly, I like the tone of the MV51 more than this.
Hey man which microphone would you suggest for a clear voice gaming for youtube between Samson meteor mic or Samson Q2U or maybe Blue Snowball(not ice) something in that price range :D thank you very much if you get the time to answer :D
Edit: added snowball
I would PERSONALLY pick q2u, but you need it close to your mouth. Check the best USB mic under $100 video, I rank them all.
Podcastage thanks man i already did :D thats the first video i watched but because i'm not a musician i don't need extra features only nice and crisp voice
it does work on Windows also if u get the one with the normal USB cable and there is no difference between the iOS and Windows mic minus the cable. and yeah I use one for travel and with reaper and they can sound really good with some tweaking. but yes expensive
So the iOS / Mac model works on windows if you use the USB cable? Or do you mean the Windows / Mac model works on windows? What kind of processing do you do? I imagine a decent amount of EQ would be necessary.
Podcastage both work on either Mac iOS or Windows u just need the proper cable there is zero difference in the actual mic the plug on the bottom is the same on both. I'll look to see what effects I use on it and let u know I can't remember right now. it can sound very nice though
How do you record on an iPad with with headphones and the lightning port? Do Bluetooth headphones work?
The iPad has a headphone port still.
Podcastage thanks I went ahead and bought both the other day and after two days figured out how to put a beat track into Garageband so I can record vocals lol.
Just bought this Mic for $9 AUSTRALIAN (in box, unopened) from an OpShop. Pretty stoked... but it's not as good as my ZoomH2 (the ZoomH2 is a kick ass microphone).
Every USB mic is a podcast mic and does not take singing properly hence that's not for vocals but seems great for speech
I bought one preowned for about $90 on eBay. It’s a nice mic, but I agree it’s not worth the MSRP.
Hyper mic is the new version, maybe you can tray
Wich boom arm fits on the 96k?
The mount has a 5/8" threading so it fits on the standard mic stand, but if you want to put it on most boom arms you would just need a 5/8" to 3/8" mic stand adapter.
Can you please review the apogee hypemic
It's not currently on my schedule,, but perhaps I'll pick one up in the next year or so to review. Thanks for the recommendation.
oooooo weee i feel a little bad barely watching the video but the last two videos i see that price point and just like "nah i'm good"
Can you add Reloop Spodcaster in the poll please ? (If you can get it in the US)
Doesn't look available in the states.
Oh okay . .
Also comes with free and unwanted obsolescence when Apple decides they don't want the mic to work anymore hahaha!
ThE wOrLd Is So MaD 🤪
i think the neweer mics sound the same ngl
That is a lot of money!
Probably TOO much money. HA! I do think it's one of the cheapest apogee product though.
do the floureon bm 800 please
It's the same as the other bm800's...and I'm so sick of reviewing the same mic sold under a different brand.
Its $179 right now so 10 bucks more than the rode nt usb the next bes4
t ios. So $10 for 24 bit i guess is good
I dunno. I understand people want a audio upgrade for IOS, but $230 really is rather steep. I dunno if it works with a Lightning Cable like it does with a USB Type C cable, but my ATR2100 connected to my cellphone seems to do a fine job as well. If you really MUST have a Lightning Adapter microphone, I guess this might be acceptable, but it's rather pointless on Mac since a myriad of other mics are available at that price point.
Just don't get healthcare for a year, you should be able to cover it.
/s
Haha! $230 for a year of healthcare. I would LOVE that!
The bottom line is there is many Mac haters, and sometimes I consider myself one of them, price tag on most of Apple products is ridiculous, however if you are looking for anything with a premium sound, capability or performance in general you will not overpay A dime for any of mentioned above products
No xlr 230$ oh please
While it sounds like it could be a decent mic I could not justify the price, I mean no foam pop filter (at the very least), cheap stand without a shock mount, and of course.... NO STICKERS!? How can I brag about how much money I have to spend on things without a sticker?? Oddly enough to me it sounded almost like a neewer mic with a gain control built in, it did not sound like $230 to my ears.
....in case anyone thinks the sticker bit was serious please look up the word sarcasm.
Neumanns, Geffels, hi end AKGs, Sony ect. for thousand of dollars also come without anything extra ;P
This one at least have cable.
Why is it $230?! It sounds like a nw/bm 700/800
Probably because of the apogee preamp.
srsly, if you want to make video on iOS, just get a rode video mic me! it's $180 cheaper and better audio! thanks for the reply btw the video was great keep up the good work!
Hey man can you please make a video for the best mic for beatboxers for their live performances?
Beatbox Pakistan I don't beatbox so I have no idea what a beat boxer mic requires.
Shure M57 or equivalent :P
Don't cup mic!
Your room seems a bit little every video :)
I keep adding gear to improve my podcast and testing abilities for mics, so it seems smaller and smaller. HA!

wow lol
Imma cry🤠
For those who want to record vocals professionally I don't recommend, it doesn't sounds good, actually sounds really amateur.
I mean, its not horrible but it's overpriced, for a mic that much it should have crisp, clear sound
It just has a VERY distinct sound that I'm not a fan of.

.
I bought this mic it is over rated and over priced. I love singing with it on smule.
So they sell a microphone for a ton of money and they think the customers don't mind that Apogee does not know what they manufacture. What a terrible manual. That makes sence.
one of your microphones please! 🙏
Thats a microphone? that thing is tiny!
That's what my ex girlfriend said to me ... oh wait ... you said mic. Yeah it is rather small.
XD
Overpriced.
Hey if you wanna buy mine for cheap here’s the link rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575378759&campid=5338273189&customid=&icep_item=254076992877&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&toolid=11111
You are a why!?
Just wow. 200 fucking dollars for a shitty sounding mic with a lighting cable.
Omg, y so useless and overpriced?
this mic isn't worth the price
waste of money for this price.....i think its only produced for the fans with no brains. It was a pretty standard mic.If it was around 100 euros maybe it could have been more competitive.
Apogee makes some AMAZING interfaces, I think that's probably the main cost of this mic...but....the tone of it just isn't for me.
Podcastage true it isnt as crisp as other 200+ euros mics u tested
overpriced mic for overpriced pc
I stole one from apple so i have no problemwith price thanks apple
Probably shouldn't be admitting that on a public forum. HA.
Podcastage i know dont tell anyone
NO ONE should buy this one the price/value is ridiculous
If this microphone was Chinese it would get a much worse review, no capsule information or DAC information screams cheap.
